Really great library. The building is quite large with several floors packed with books and resources. They have room you can book and offer many programs. The staff is very helpful as well.

JMRL has several libraries in the system. While I’ve only spent time in a couple of them (Central and Northside), I’ve always found something good to read and the staff to be helpful. Two things that are terrific about JMRL is the Friends of the Library semi-annual book sales at the Gordon Avenue location and being able to place books on hold when they’re currently unavailable. I’ve seldom had to wait very long before an email is sent to tell me the book(s) is ready for pickup at whichever library I’ve requested. While I read primarily for pleasure, my husband, who has been doing research on Civil Rights, has been using the ‘hold’ system exclusively and has found numerous resources to aid his research. JMRL offers many, many programs for children, teens, and adults and not only book related but also civic and community oriented. I’ve lived in several mid-sized cities and JMRL is one of the best library systems I’ve encountered. It is definitely a jewel in Charlottesville!

If only the music c.d.'s could be categorized by genre. Unless you know the name of the artist, you can't find the music. For instance, if you want Celtic music or Blue Grass, or operatic favorites - performed by a variety of artists or groups - forget it. Or go to the Augusta County library system. Or just about any other library you've ever belonged to. However, JMRL has WONDERFUL STAFF.

Interlibrary loan is awesome and provides a massive selection from a small-town library in Scottsville. Great selection of avant garde and documentary movies. My cats Snookers, Petey, and Jeremiah Cisternhair LOVE to nap on the many Danielle Steel novels I check out from JMRL.

Library itself is pretty nice but the staff I ran into today was horrific . Unhelpful and downright rude . I had the feeling I was bothering them at every turn . Finally got everything filled out to get cards and met he rudest individual I ever met in a library system. I have been a member of this library since 1986 and needed a name change and a replacement card . Not anything that would have costed her an ounce of sweat but she was put out I guess because she down right poured . I am contacting her superior . But wow ... get another job !
