How can this library be closed at 2pm on a Friday when it closes at 6pm. What a wasted trip for me coming here.

This place is MADE for kids!! The second floor is for kids only. Has tons of kid friendly staff and activities. So much fun!!!!

kori laughlin

A lot of books to mosey through. Wonderful records floor and staff is more than happy to help you if you need any!

K Clark

Excellent library, well arranged and knowledgeable staff. One of the most extensive genealogy libraries in the country with resources from all over the United States.

Erik Mannery

Kind of a sad place architecturally but the staff are nice. Really outdated carpet and building in general. Lots of empty spaces on first floor where shelving units could go. Kind of a misuse of space. Yes, there are lots of homeless but security, police and staff make their presence known and makes the building safe. Free parking as of 7/31 in the lot due to lot upgrade!

Yonitch

The books, building and views from the building are great. The super crazy stuff you see; sometimes humorous, but mostly absolutely terrifying.

John Anthony

the best in the Dallas area, I have been a member for 20 years.

Kyle Cameron

I really like the people who work here. They were super helpful and willing to give me as much time as I needed on the computer because it was work related.

The downtown library has a great selection of books, movies, dvds, as media available. Items are easy to find. The staff is always friendly as well. Parking can be tricky, but a ride share or DART makes the trip much easier. The second floor is very kid friendly, with story time for children and infants offered. The library offers various events to the public that are educational and/or fun. Although the homeless problem is there as mentioned by previous reviewers, I've personally never been bothered by anyone. And, there's plenty of security at the library.

Jose Baylon

Love wandering around to explore. Now that we have our son, we visit the library regularly since they have different activities for kids on the second floor. There are usually lots of homeless people throughout the library.

Savannah Hukov

Ever since I was a kid, I love going to Dallas Public Library. I love this place because I learn a lot from their resources. My favourite novel books are all here.

Cuzz Life

The weirdest thing happen to me today on the second floor at this library, I was walking toward from the stair way and seen a child on his knees looking down (age between 2, 5 playing with the toy train track in a glass wall room where the historic books are at when I look twice as i was reading the display of the historic book on a shelf through the glass he was gone he had to be ghost cause I believe that room is close off to the public. I had to get it off my chest ( there was no harm and it’s a nice library) I just wondering if anyone experience anything like I did...

Susan Clopton

The second floor is one of the best places for kids in Dallas--books, educational toys, and even free science classes. Best kept secret in downtown.

Eboni Johnson

The second floor is a Wonderful space for children!

Hutchinson Nathan

If you are a fan of books and other forms of media, this place is a must-visit. It has all the resources you need for your studies or for reading.

Paul Baxter

Great place people that work there are great

Anadia Rockey

Holy book brigade, Batman! A plethora of books categorized by floors! + kids floor, arts floor, theatre floor, culture floor, etc... + large selection + many bathrooms + very quiet

annmarie smith

The library is full of psychotic homeless people the staff, librarians and cops are nothing more than baby sitters trying to stop nonsense and drama. I feel absolutely sorry for the staff in this library who have to cater to these entitlement nuts It could be a good place for relaxation and research if it weren't for the homeless invasion their.

Aero Pegasus

Very nice library. It has loads of books, music/media, and a cute little shop in it. Also a kids book floor for, well, kids, useful to get a little kid into read'n.

nonyemm

I love writing and working here. The calm, silent ambience. An abundance of seating and tables. Friendly greetings. Unlike expensive coffee shops and cramp spaces, I can spread out, save moolah and feel comfy & at peace. The 7th floor is best. The children’s library is neat too for the munchkins. The lib showcases kid films weekly.

Leon Horsley

Great library. The kids floor (that's the second floor) has a great selection of books and toys. There's also a helpful "bureau of vital statistics" a birth and death certificate center and plenty of other great stuff. Classes are open the public and do not require a library card.

Reece Fitzgerald

It's a great library. Staff is awesome and friendly. Massive selection of books. I could go on..

Alexandra Baker

When did it become acceptable to have loud conversations on a cell phone while in a library? I love this building, but it has become increasingly difficult to find a quiet place to work as every floor has LOTS of loud talkers. Unfortunately the librarians do the same thing. So sad

Richard Moore

My kids love to come to this library a lot. Good thing my kids still read books!

Rodney Powell

They have just about anything you may be seeking here....patents; historical documents; small business grants; classes and all.

Николай Станошек

Great programs, free parking, huge complex, tons of books and games for children and adults alike.

Beau M

Books galore. I think I hear angels harmonizing somewhere!

Tim Morris

I went to the genealogy floor and they have no idea what they’re doing and didn’t want to help.

Josh Diesel

The library is okay but does not have as extensive a collection of books as i would expect the main branch of a major city library to have. The organization system is also weird, it's hard to guess where a given section of books will be, even which floor it will be on. There are hardly any catalog/reference computers available and none of them are on the first floor so you have to go to the third floor just to learn they don't have the book you're looking for. They do have interesting non-book collections and exhibits though.

I go here often and I've never had a problem with the homeless never. it seems to me that if you mind your business the homeless minds theirs. and the staff here is pretty awesome they will di everything within their power to help.. ..great place

Walkiria Fernandez

This place is dirt and desorganizated

Cecilia Lopez

Incredible place. One problem: homeless people loitering in and around the library. I come here to read and find books. Staying vigilant of your surroundings is the opposite of what a library visit entails.

William Whittington

Fantastic genealogy library on the 8th floor! Everyone so is helpful and made us novices feel welcome.

tim tile

Great staff. They also had quiet areas that I could study for my upcoming test. Also the restrooms where clean. They also had plenty of computers for research.

Shan Green

The Children's Center is neat, clean, quiet, spacious and has plenty for the children to do. I recommend visiting in your spare time.

Simba Mupfukudzwa

Dont waste time with the other floors.Just head up to the 7th floor and you will be in for a wonderful surprise. It is quiet and it feels like an art exhibition as they have all kinds of historical monuments on display such as William Shakespeare's Comedies, Histories, & Tragedies. The staff is super friendly & helpful, internet connection is great ,fast and it looks very modern or even futuristic ! Best place to study ever

Ruchi Okeke Ewo

6th floor staff are outstanding. Ready and eager to render assistant

Jeremy Stevenson

I want to really love this library. The staff are awesome, the selection is HUGE, and there are multiple floors of awesome Dallas artifacts however the place needs some serious work. The elevators barely work, the stairwells reek, and there are a bunch people mean mugging each other. Do check out the floor with an original COPY of the declaration as well as Shakespeare's first works.

Kel Moy

i went to this library a few different times i was in the area. i like that it has a genaeology section. i presumed that the genaoelogy section was only for that region of texas. i like the 1980s contemporary architecture of the library. there is also a bronze statue of bulls running over a creek nearby. and the farmer's market is nearby and there is some other library nearby too.

Michael Harris

What a waste of time and money parking all for nothing. The place seems pretty run down, and they don't even have any of the books I requested, and the only option they had with one book was EXACTLY the same option with the elerctronic version the Lewisville library had. They wanted to charge me $3 to find a library that had the book, and then when I said no thanks, I was told to order it on Amazon. AVOID this disaster at all costs.

Shona Rollins

I just absolutely loved this library today, especially the children's floor. The learning computers, tablets, the movie room, the space as well as the wide variety of books and great for all ages.

DEF1

This place seems like at one point it was an amazing library, though it’s overrun with homeless people who seem to be sleeping on the 4th floor. I saw a few sleeping on 4 and after I saw it I left. We were also asked numerous times to give money so a guy could buy more drugs. This place needs more security. It seems like a great library, but it’s run down state and it’s issues should be resolved. I don’t mind the homeless, I just don’t like the way that the place is run down and how people are sleeping in this place.

Deanne Loftus

Its a great place. The staff is ever so helpful. Really nice and peaceful atmosphere very conducive to learning and reading. Very safe for children.

Jessica Huerta

I loved it I will be going there all the time

Molly MaGrath

This place is perfect for bookworms like me. It has a wide collection of books of all topics. The place is also huge and well-maintained.

Eric Lincoln

Nice place, excellent services as well. I would've given it five stars, however the bathrooms smell absolutely terrible.

Sue Pugh

They have a Dunlap copy of the Declaration of independence. And an original from Shakespeare!

Sandra Glover

Website...so easy. Practical..very friendly user. Love it....especially on my mobile Android!

Craig Silentman

Lots of homeless people hang out here, including myself. That's not the problem. The problem is the librarians that let noisy people be noisy. Wanna watch a movie on your cell phone without headphones? The librarians don't mind. Wanna listen to your favorite album on headphones loud enough so the whole floor can hear it? Go right ahead. Wanna snore? Actually that is something the librarians will bust you for. :(

Steven Danby

First, you will have to feel comfortable with the urban environment. There is definitely a homeless presence, but they keep to themselves. The police stop by every now and then to keep them moving. Inside is a book, multimedia, and historical wonderland! Besides the usual library fare expected, there is a great collection of important historical artifacts. The only copy of the Declaration of Independence west of the Missippi is located on the Fourth floor. In addition, an original Shakespeare Bibliography is there as well. This, particular bibliography is important for it has the only complete copy of several of Bill Shakespeare's works.

Jim Davis

Very helpful and knowledgeable genealogy staff. A very strong collection. Gayla, Stephanie, Ed, MiC, and all the rest know their stuff!

Josiah Brush

This must be Dallas's most underutilized public resource. The first floor is generally busy with not only a library-within-a-library but a Bureau of Records office. But there are seven more stories of resources available. What a boon for visitors! The sheer magnitude may be overwhelming so I'd recommend the tour, a .PDF document available online. Search for "Dallas Public Library", select "Locations / Hours". Select the first option "Central Library" and under Tour the Building select "General Tour". Have fun!

Matthew Hamilton

Lots of information and Extremely Spacious Piano or Keyboard Room

George Bogaski

I love public libraries and frequent them with my son so I hate to give anything but a stellar reviews. The shared space nature means it has people there not there for the library. The exterior was littered. The children's section seemed to have limited resources for kenisthetic learners. Staff there was kind and helpful.

Angel Lopez

This people acting brand new especially sum woman who was acting all tired of what I was asking change the people working if they wanna make this place better

chad risby

This place is the Homeless shelter hangout .. K2 smokers just nasty place Dallas must do better about when Homeless down town it's a huge problem this library smells like them so don't touch anything..

Ines Kirkpatrick
