This is an amazing library, all you need to do is get a library card (which is free) and you have access to everything, the Children’s room leaves me speechless. The Library is extraordinary and the customer service is amazing! I totally recommend this Library.

I love books, so of course I LOVE this library located centrally in Downtown Columbia. All of our libraries are being renovated and I've added pics of recent views of this library. There will be a Cafe opening soon and many areas to play chess and other board games, read, quiet visits, I even saw a young lady playing ping pong. 5+ stars!!

I want the old library back, where I could browse through books on a topic. The book selection is shockingly slim now. I hope the library will move back towards serving readers.

I don't normally complain about anything, but the library is like an old DYING friend. Because of the internet, people just don't go there much these days. I'm seriously upset because I came in today after a long hiatus to find they have delivered the DEATH BLOW to this wonderful place . They have done away with the DEWEY DECIMAL SYSTEM, and have turned what was once an easy to browse collection of books into the most CONFUSED cluster-you-know-what. No longer can I sit by the 780s to be with the music and art books. Please change it back!!!! And the idiots who changed this once great resource into a place that I WILL NEVER VISIT AGAIN should be PUNISHED. Seriously, it's like the internet put a knife into the heart of all libraries, and now some hair-brained library staff decided to twist it just to finish it off. ONLY if this is reversed back into the Dewey Decimal system will I ever go through those doors again. I hate having to ask for help to find a stack of books on different topics that I used to be able to grab in less than five minutes. ...what a HUGE shame...like an old wise friend has been killed. FIX IT before you have to close your doors because only the homeless will want to come in....

Love this library! Everything is beautiful here and they make it so easy to get what you need. The library policies are amazing and you can check things out forever if no one else requests them. They have amazing new movies, games, cds and books all the time.

Too much homeless problem in library..

This is one of the best libraries I've ever been to. The building itself is very inspirational - I'm totally in love with its architecture and interior design. The library resources themselves are newer and very well stocked. Also very impressed with the little kids area and all the extra available resources - whoever is running this library is doing a kick-butt job.

Awesome library! Incredible catalog of books, videos, CDs, and magazines, and the staff is always very friendly and helpful. I live in Lexington County and pay the $60 annual non-resident fee to be able to have a card ... money well spent!

We love Richland Library. Having lived overseas where libraries are just not available, we are very appreciative of having a wonderful library system. The renovations going on throughout the library system are amazing. The library was already one of the best around, but it's getting even better. We especially appreciate the staff of the Children's section of the library. Ms. Leslie's team are superb. :-)

Taylor Donald

If you want to go to the main library make sure you have 150.00 to go borrow a book

Too much drunken low life homeless dominate monopolize library at citizens expense. Someone need to solve this problem.. Discriminates disabilities Not handicapped accessible..

New renovations are a great improvement!

I love the library. This library system is the Benchmark of libraries throughout the Southeast United States. They are welcoming and so loving. All 11 branches are heading in the new age of how libraries should educate the communities and metro areas they serve. Atlanta & Charlotte come here for ideas.

Love, love, love this library! Excited for the renovations to be complete!

This is the stuff bookworm dreams are made of. If you have not been to the Richland Library (main location) then you are missing out! The location is newly renovated, and 4 floors of amazing. Seriously, they have an entire downstairs floor dedicated to kids, with a seperate area and lounge for teens. In the massive literary themed space, you'll find giant board games, shadow rooms, dollhouses amid real trees (growing inside) and seating sections to accommodate all of your needs. From lounging on floor pillows to booths conducive to discussion or perhaps the homework station for those serious about studying. Their massive selection of materials (books, videos, audio cds, portable mp3 format books, and mini dvd players) means that you could find something for even the most reluctant readers. Best part? It's free! As a mom of four, we go weekly, and even more often during the summer.

Beautiful public library in downtown Columbia that has a very extensive collection! be aware of the large population of homeless individuals that occupy the library, but they do no harm to anyone.

Ron Brown

This is an awesome place with many services that people don't know about. Why pay for Netflix or Prime when you have an awesome library?!! They provide book service so that you can pick up books at branch libraries which may be closer to your home. They are up to date and constantly adding new things like e books and play away views. If you need job help you can get that too. Richland Library puts the "unity" in community.

Many homeless people - some with a high status background profile - visit/live in the Main Assembly Street Branch of the Richland Library on a regular day-after-day basis with what can be termed as impunity both by internal Security and by the local Authorities. Many irregularities occur on a regular basis with a blind eye turned from all Library Staff personnel, Security, and Local Authorities. Recently, after an attempted phone call out of a time-sensitive necessity I was harrassed by an arrogant Library Staff person, banned from the Library for a minimum of seven days and last but not least was delineated upon my way out the door thereby/and coerced into letting one of the Security Supervisors to illegally/without cause take a smartphone photograph of my S.C. Driver's License. That my friend is bad stuff and can lead to all kinds of unnecessary legal/Constitutional troubles just because of Library Staff personnel showing deferences to some people and being arrogant and persecuting towards others. This is NOT the only time this type of harrassment/threatening has occurred in this particular Branch of the Richland Library on Assembly Street. Bad stuff, along with a not so small amount of spying going on while people are trying to do business on the computers/Internet.

This library is absolutely beautiful! I've been going since I was little, and it's only gotten better over the years. As a child, I remember going for hours and reading their entire section on cats, checking out magazines, frequently checking out Harry Potter books and CDs and DVDS, and getting published in their children's magazine literature magazine where they made me an autograph table where my fourth grade self signed copies that parents, library visitors, and even a couple local authors picked up. Now days I use several of their branches for their programs, books, study areas, and printers! They're life savers for students since you can get ten free pages printed per day.

Wonderful youth programs and Great People; However, PARK AT YOUR OWN RISK. While at the library twice, that I'm aware, my car door was pried open by someone looking to steal during daylight and with lots of passerby.

Excellent selection. Will order almost anything they don't have... a $350.00 book once. They're forgiving about fees. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Easy checkout. Wii games, lots of dvds. Crazy super deals at the book sales. Comfortable building, lighting okay, privacy, wireless, don't hassle the homeless. Did I mention their staff?
