Great library with pleasant and helpful staff! Thank you!

I went into this library earlier in the day at around noon. I sat down with all my stuff for 3 hours while reading a book, then left. I had been waiting on a friend to arrive in Myrtle Beach but his flight was delayed. I walked around a bit then decided to go back in at around 3pm but, one of the women at the counter told me she couldn't let me in because I had "bed rolls" attached to my backpack. Hmmm, strange how I was let in previously with no issue earlier in the day. Not letting me in because I have something on my backpack that looks like a bed roll is discriminatory and rude. This woman probably has some subconscious (or conscious) problem with homeless people she should address promptly. I've never been not-allowed into a library for carrying around certain harmless objects. Also, I'm not homeless, I'm a tourist visiting for the day, but if I was homeless and I wanted to read books, this woman was talking to me as if I could make my backpack disappear. No, even if I was homeless, I don't have magic wizard powers that can poof away my stuff. Also, this library has a crappy selection of books anyway, especially in the non-existent science section. Get yourself together first if you want to deny service to citizens based on status. SMH.

I signed up for a meeting that was to take place at the library. Arrived a few minutes before the time of the meeting, not knowing that the library closes at the same time. The employees would not acknowledge that me and my granddaughter were at the door. We are not residents of myrtle beach, so not familiar with the library hours of business. They could have shown good customer service, and came to the door to inquire why were there.

Great staff, Inside and Outside of the library are extremely clean.... Even all restrooms are very CLEAN and stocked up with extra TP. Rows of Books and DVDS are all in order for easy to find items. The 2nd Floor has an entire section dedicated to children; games, books, computers, even the Décor is Child Friendly! Allows them to practice being quiet with out disturbing anyone. There's only one way to enter childs area.. lessen the fear of them wandering off without a notice. BONUS feature is a HUGE playground in rear of Libra always open!

This is listed as a public library, which is a lie. It is a private library only for residents of Myrtle Beach. Google needs to adjust their search engine....it should NOT come up under Horry County Libraries.

This is not a library. They charge $20/year to rent books. The only thing public about it is that it’s paid for by the public’s taxes. What a scam.

My family loves this library! The staff has always been great and the children's story times are the best around..hands down. Jen is fabulous with the children and we look forward to seeing her each week! There is a $20/yr. Membership..but worth every penny in my opinion.

If you’re looking for more than your normal community library, then come here. The people here are kind, attentive, and helpful. And most importantly, you can tell they care about the patrons that come in. I have always felt welcome when I come here. From the awesome programs that they put on year round, to the amazing, ever-changing selection of books that they provide, I think Chapin Memorial Library exceeds every expectation that I have ever had for a local library. Thanks for the service!

Security dude needs to chill out and stop being condescending and rude to patrons. Not a great look

I have used this library for over 20 years, and it is the best. As a homeschool mom & as a patron, the staff has always been very helpful & friendly. Never have had a bad experience. Also, even though it is a city library, paid for by only city resident taxes, county residents can now get a free card.

This was the first time I’ve been DENIED at a Public Library. I brought in a bill with my name and address on it from the Vets office in Myrtle Beach and was told it was not proper documentation and not given a library card. This is the most disappointing experience I’ve ever had with a library and I used to work in one.

Best Library in Horry County! Great family atmosphere and friendly, knowledgeable staff!

Full of dangerous homeless people who will try to steal from you or at least beg nonstop. Avoid at all costs.

Actually a pretty nice library. Great kids section and the toddler story time seems popular.

Like another reviewer said, the children's section is light years beyond the Horry County library system, which is absolutely shameful. HOWEVER, their decision to charge $20 per year for a library card to Horry County residents living outside of Myrtle Beach city limits is despicable and embarrassing. Especially since the library receives funding from the county (via our taxes), not just the City of MB. Charging for a library card is wrong, and it is just another example of the unending greed of the City of MB. Everyone is already paying for this library thru their taxes. This shouldn't even be legal.

Very Quiet and nice place to read!

Wonderful Library, we have been using the library ever since we moved here 22 years ago. Story time with Sue Ellen was an event we cherished. The staff has always been very helpful.

Every couple of months when I am visiting family in Myrtle Beach we go to the Chapin Library. The children's programs they have are wonderful. The children's story time with Miss Sue Ellen is not just story telling, she incorporates basic shapes, counting, proportions, manners, and many other life skills into the engaging activities related to that week's theme. Miss Jen gladly assists even the littlest kids to get books and other resources they need that make reading and learning very attractive. Miss Wanda at the circulation desk know all the patrons on an individual level and is always happy to help. All the staff have been very helpful and personable.

Love this place. It's one of the things I enjoy about living here.

Super friendly staff. I dropped my debit card and they came and found me to return it! Easy to get membership and great selection of books.

Best library in the area. I drive down from the NC border with my son for story time with Jen! Their book selection is just wonderful compared to some libraries I've been to. Check them out! :)

If I had a choice, I would rate this library 0 Stars. This is a public library, and people are always scrutinized, and are carefully watched. Instead of assisting the patrons, they spend their time being suspicious of others. The staff is very cold, and makes the atmosphere not welcoming. It seems like they don’t really know how to run a library. There should be a library director on the premises, who is actually in charge of the staff, and is eager to assist the patrons. My advice to management would be to come visit this library for the day, and see for yourself what I just mentioned. Most libraries are staffed with at least 1 librarian who has an MLS, and is educated to provide the right information that is needed. They don’t seem to be involved with the resources required. Once management makes these changes that I just suggested, they will see more patrons come into this library.

By far our favorite library! I came here with my family as a young girl and now enjoy bringing my own daughter, 20 years later. This library is filled with so much love from the staff and such a fantastic, enriching selection of books that we have yet to find somewhere else! The children’s program is so good, I bring my daughter and niece every week to hang out and browse new books, always being welcomed with such huge smiles. We love our library!!
