This place is within walking distance from Amtrak station. Crossing streets for the Disabled in wheelchairs and low side walks for wheelchairs. Only cross at the lights and street walk. If you are looking for specific information at the Library plan way ahead of time to speak with staff. CAN'T GET LOST. POLICE ARE NICE AND WILL ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS. Books, books, and more books. Input!! Also find an all day public parking.

The most awesome and beautiful building I have ever seen! The engravings on the walls and ceiling are amazing plus there is a fantastic compass rose directly beneath the main dome. The Great War exhibit is very eye opening as is the Baseball exhibit. The Meso American exhibition is extraordinary with it's flasks and Myan statues. The entire building is fantastic.

The hidden gem of DC and a must-see for tourists. There is no other place in the city with such magnificent and elaborate art and architecture. It may not look glam from the outside - but come inside. Plus, since it's not often a big pick for tourists, the lines are shorter than at the Capitol, and there is a tunnel you can take between the two!! Beat the lines and the heat and see the best place in DC! For locals - the LOC is hugely underrated. Get a reader card. Many of the reading rooms are open until 9:30pm several nights a week, so it's a great place (esp. in the winter!) to come after work and cozy up with a good book.

Outstanding architecture, gold, marble and mosaic abound in the nation's library.

This is the main building of the Library of Congress. If you are a visitor who just wants to see the building's richly decorated interior and some museum-type exhibitions (and not necessarily use the library facilities), this is the place to go. There is a special exhibition of Jefferson's books, the library's first collection. The place is huge and you could easily spend two hours here, especially if you visit the exhibitions. There's restrooms, a gift shop, and a small cafe that closes early on Saturdays.

Been wanting to see the Jefferson Library for a long time. Getting to see a Gutenberg Bible and the architectural components of the building were truly bonuses.

Absolutely grandiose and gorgeous! One of the most beautiful building interiors for US! I had no idea this beauty was right in DC. It is a hidden treasure. Do not forget to visit. If you want to skip the lines, try the tunnel from US Capitol into this building.

Library of Congress.

Amazing building with the extraordinary ambiance of the world's biggest library. The main reading room is a piece of art on itself. When you are there look upwards for the dome and sculptures, while and researchers read silently around you. Don't hesitate to take a tour or a researchers orientation class, the layter are on the second floor, same as the reading room where you also can register with the library to start using its services. Staff is more than friendly, they welcome your inquiries and are always there to answer your questions with a smile. There are countless corners and rooms to keep your curiosity happy, a library almost in Borges sense.

Excellent architecture, beautiful depiction in detail. Magnificent dome, the central hall & sweeping staircase, elegant elevator. Interesting photos from past. Unforgettable visit.

The Library of Congress and Thomas Jefferson Building are used interchangeably. While John Adams conceived of the idea of establishing a congressional library, Thomas Jefferson was instrumental in establishing the baseline for what it has grown to become today and even sold his entire personal collection to rebuild the inventory after the British burned the collection in the War of 1812. The building's interior is astonishing, just from an architectural viewpoint. Like all public buildings in Washington, DC, there are helpful signs and historical facts, and there are special exhibits that are worth seeing.

One of the nicest places around the National Mall. I really wanted to go back and spend some more time, but the library was closed. Don't be fooled by the exterior, the interior is such an art. I love the colors and the mosaic, it's worth a visit.

It's no wonder why this is described as the most beautiful building in DC. The interior is just breathtaking. Take the time to head up to the balcony of the reading room and really enjoy the view. The public exhibits were fascinating and well worth the time.
