This library is an awesome place to both relax after a day of classes and to study either alone or with classmates/friends. I was so happy when this large space opened up because it just works so much better than the D.H. Hill library. You can easily find a space to sit, there is just more room, loads of study group rooms to choose from, and lots of free surfaces to write on during study time, which is a big thing for me! Very happy with this investment by State.

This library defines new generation libraries. The exterior is just superb. The interior is even better. Open study areas, collaborative study areas, Study rooms and so on make you want to learn here. The Bookbot is simply an incredible feat of Engineering. All in all, if you are in Raleigh, come and take a tour of this place, and just experience the new kind of learning environment.

You simply have to visit this library. It's stunning visually, yet practical. The view from the roof is unforgettable, and the feel on the inside is jaw-dropping. If you can't be productive here, you're not capable of being productive.

The noisiest library you can imagine. This place is a glorified airport not a library. Even the silent reading areas are quite noisy, since there are no walls around. Terrible design. It feels the same as if you were trying to study in a street. It is impossible to work here without earplugs. You can't find any silent places. If you are a scholar and want to get any work done I strongly recommend DH Hill library instead of Hunt. If you want to waist time with your friends, have some ice cream, play video games and chat all day on comfy luxury furniture, then Hunt is the place for you. Not for research and study!

The library may look innovative and nice, but is a complete waste of space on the inside. The furniture is useless and uncomfortable. Just take a look at the 2 inches of space at the edge of this table that is completely useless. In addition, the building layout is incredibly inefficient with very little room for actual work space. More time and money was spent on getting unique chairs that hurt your back and are terrible to sit in while writing or studying, not that you can actually study on the numerous small, coffee-shop style tables available.

See 1 star reviews because of stairs and noise... really. This is a Library on steroids and perfect for the times. Game Lab, VR, and study areas. It gets quieter as you go up and visitors are very respectful. It's not only for NC State students and is open to local. You will find a spot that is perfect for your needs.

Waste of my tuition. Very hard for freshman to access this library. Weird space layout and everything is way to complex. The library should a place to simply learn, write and succeed. Not a museum for technology.

Beautiful new library on the campus of NC State University. Modern in every way, there is plenty of space for reading, studying, or just lounging. Just standing at the huge glass wall watching the automatic book retrieval robots is fun. There's a maker space, video game lab, and state of the art theater. This looks to be a model for future academic libraries.

Hunt is an extremely modern library, and the design of the whole place reflects that. Interesting chairs and furniture with technology incorporated in many spaces. However, many of the spaces in the library just aren't for traditional, quiet studying. The only places where you'll get a near-noiseless place to study are the fifth floor, or the graduate lounges (which are for graduate students only).

Not really a library. The furniture is mostly uncomfortable and strange, making it hard to study. The meeting rooms all have at least one glass wall, so tourists will walk by and look into your room as you're studying. The glass walls also mean it's very loud. I wanted to like it because of Bookbot and the other cool stuff they have, but it really doesn't work as a library.

Stunningly beautiful architecture. Beautiful furnishings. State of the art robots pulling books from the shelves. Plenty of sunlight. I happened to visit the town and I kept going back everyday. I fell in love with it. Students must be very proud of this library. Its name will shine decades to come, if not centuries. It made me speechless and got me saying "wow, unbelievable" constantly. This will soon be the landmark of North Carolina. Awesome job! This library will remain deep in my heart till I die.

Modern marvel of a structure. Beautiful from the outside and wonderful laid out interior spaces--unless you are looking for quiet places. Unless you are in a study room, you will hear constant noise. People whisper/talk in the quiet reading areas. Adjacent to these quiet areas are loud group areas where people are constantly talking which provides a constant background noise for the quiet areas.

I am a student in aerospace engineering at NC State. This library is not built for students to use. There is an astonishing lack of useful tables to work at. Most of the work areas are lounge chairs that are just meant to look nice. All of these lounge chairs are a huge waste of space. Most of the "innovative" designs they use for the chairs are just super uncomfortable as well. So you get to sit in an uncomfortable chair while you struggle to do work on a coffee table instead of a real table. The bookbot is a great way to save space but all the space they saved by removing bookstacks was wasted on cruddy useless coffee shop furniture. Also, there are so many tourists that come through here that I feel like a zoo exhibit when I am working. People just walk through being disruptive and taking pictures of everything and it can make it hard to focus sometimes. One good thing about it is that there is a lot of natural light so it is not nearly as depressing to be in as other libraries. And also there are a lot of good resources for students to use that make it a better place to work on projects (though it still is hard to find a table to work at). The biggest complaint it the lack of useful work tables. If they took out a lot of the coffee shop furniture and couches and stuff and replaced them with actual tables and chairs to work on, it would be a very nice place to work.

WARNING if it is exams time you can only get in if you are an NC STATE student. Stunning from the exteriors to the bright interiors. This represents NC State's Engineering and Design schools. The book bot is simply impressive.

It was a real honor for Karen Tiede and I to present Social media Marketing for Government and Business for the Chengdu Leaders Development Program this morning in the library. It was the first time I have been here and it is more spectacular than I expected. Big thanks to the support of the AV team that help us setup and make sure everything was working. Pretty, Modern and Completely Useless as a study space. This building looks good has a nice interior design but doesn't come close to accomplishing the primary function of a campus library which is to provide space for the students to learn. The chairs and seating were all chosen with the design in mind and there are very, very few places where one can have a desk to write at and even fewer where a person can spread out with a computer, textbook and other materials as projects frequently demand. For instance look at the first image on the page for the library, look at the seating can you see yourself sitting in those chairs and working on a term paper or preparing for a mid-term? I have tried and it doesn't work. As it stands Hunt is a waste of money and despite D.H. Hill be a 1.5 miles from me vs. Hunt's 0.5 miles I will always go to hill if I need to get serious studying done.

This is the library from the future. They have an electronic system that retrieves the books you want. I went to the library to study for an exam I had coming up however I do not attend NCSU. The silent reading room has an amazing view and if you are there during the sunset it is even better. Lots of place to find a quiet sot and tune out the rest of the world. They have study rooms and some really fancy technology that I am sure is great for students but I didn't try to use any of that. I am not sure if you have to be a student or not. Across the way is an eatery so you don't have to go far. The design of the building interior and exterior are great to look at and functional. If you want to be productive this is the place to go.

Loved the bookbot and interiors.This place has very good interiors and it is more than a library. As soon as you enter the building you will have a vibrant view inside. The best part is the bookbot where in you will receive your desired book by a robot instead of a librarian or self collecting. There is also a screen where in you can search yourself the availability of your required book.

Love climbing stairs? Tired of convenient parking options? Need a meeting room that is both too hot and too loud? Then you've come to the right library, my friend. The James Hunt library is where you'll spend many beautiful sunny weekends, meeting with your lazy group partners who didn't do their part of the presentation/project/paper. Yes, come because DH Hill has a a dearth of meeting space. Stay because you didn't reserve that meeting room for 4 hours just to quit early. One of the best parts of finishing grad school is knowing that you'll never, ever, have to give up one more god-damned perfect sunny day in April in this place.

I expected to find a smooth blend of racks of volumes and open, fresh, and modern workspace. Alas, I found that the latter constituted almost the entire library. Most all of the material is in the bookBot (an automated system that retrieves books). While I think this is a great use of technology, I don't think it justifies not utilizing the rest of the space – in fact, I think the whole library should be bookBot! I understand, however, that the building was designed with sustainability in mind, which is great.

Absolutley beautiful building and a wonderful place to study. There is a plethora of study rooms that are usually booked several days ahead of time, but even if you don't have a room booked there are so many chairs everywhere that it is easy to find a place to work. Can't forget to mention the book bot which makes it very easy to check out a lesser used book without having to go hunting for it.

This is a great space. The library is designed with great care to provide many different spaces for study and work. The books are all tucked away or access by the book bot, and all the floor space is dedicated to meeting rooms and study carrels. You do not have to be a student to enjoy this space. Guests can get guest wifi access. It's a great place.

I haven't seen every library in the world, but this is the best that I have come across till now. It is beautiful, has state of the art technology to empower your studying, experiments, group meetings or anything whatsoever. Basically you would actually want to come here regardless of whether you have an assignment or not, because this place makes you feel the want to be productive.

I like the idea of modernizing this space, however if you're going to make it open access to the public you need to offer things that people from the public need to use such as computers. Everyone doesn't have a computer which is why they seek out public access libraries for the things they have to offer, other than that I like the library. I enjoy it there I think it's great and spacious and colorful but you need to get some public access computers and printers!
