It's still close. It will open in the fall of 2019 according to one new's source. The museum should really let their guest know if it open on their website and outside the museum.

This museum and library is rich in Spain's culture and setting of this place is like traveling to a different country. Definitely, a place to collect your thoughts and appreciate the artwork of Spain, Portugal, and Latin America.

Smallish but wonderful museum experience. Almost always empty when I show up. Amazing works - see for yourself.

Huge canvases of mostly religious paintings. There is a small section showing Spanish ceramics and earthenware. The museum is too dark to see signages very cleary but it was bad customer service that really ruined it for me. The female receptionist showed a lot of attitude from the get-go, gave incomplete information, and was too lazy to even man the baggage deposit room. She was on her smartphone the whole time I was there.

We took our children here this morning to participate in a group kids session and had a great time. It was set up like an informal art class, right there in the museum itself. It reminded me of my art classes in my university days, except it was geared at young kids 10 and younger. The program directors, Cristina and Marta, were really fantastic. I would recommend taking your kids here for one of these sessions if you can. The sesions are conducted in Spanish and are a great tool for the kids (and parents) to meet other families and gain education in Spanish.

Contrary to the museum's website or posted hours, this building is closed for the next two years. So keep that in mind before you run around the building in the pouring rain for 15 minutes trying to get in. Because you can't, and they literally can't be bothered to put up a sign saying that they are closed for two years. BONUS: When I called to ask how to get in, the woman working there told me that while they didn't post a sign in front of the building saying they were closed, I should have known about it because it was "on the news."

(Translated by Google) BEWARE, closed until the end of 2019. It is a pity not being able to visit the exhibition and the trip in vain. (Original) CUIDADO, cerrado hasta finales de 2019. Una pena no poder visitiar la exposición y el viaje en balde.

One of New York's magical places tucked out of the way but worth the effort. The building is evocative of another era and Pedro de Mena's "Saint Acisclus" sculpture is haunting. Unlike most other museums in NYC - it has never been crowded during my visits.

Came for the amazing collection of Joaquin Sorrolla large scale canvases. It's like a holy experience to sit in front of these masterpieces. Stayed for the antiquities and the history and the great interpretive information. Don't miss Anna Hyatt Huntington's magnificent sculptures outside in the courtyard of this beautiful historic building. My favorite museum in NYC.

Felicia Kazin Penchina

Looks pretty from outside, but as another reviewer mentioned, still closed as of 7/31/18.

El Cid Campeador, by Anna Hyatt Huntington, 1927, is part of an ensemble in the courtyard of the Hispanic Society of America, which includes reliefs of Boabdil (last king of the Moors in Granada) and Don Quixote, and sculptures of animals native to Spain in marble and bronze. The courtyard is sometimes closed - check before visiting. For a detailed analysis of the Cid as a historic figure, and of this sculpture, see the Amazon app Monuments of Manhattan (video) and Durante's Getting More Enjoyment from Art You Love (Kindle).

I have gone to this museum but I wish I would go more often esp. on Saturday when there is a tour available. I've been on the tour and it is fantastic. The murals are great. And there is stuff from Latin America I think a silver set and paintings with shells and something on Emperor Montesuma's (?) daughter marrying a Spaniard and begining meztizoism. Thank you.

The Goya's in the Museum is fabulous

(Translated by Google) The largest collection of Spanish art outside Spain world. Awesome. (Original) La mayor colección de arte español del mundo fuera de España. Impresionante.

Although the entrance to this free museum is hard to find, it'a worth the effort. In addition to some lovely Spanish paintings and furniture dating back to the 1600's, there is a substantial collection of fascinating brass knockers and a vast trove of the most delightful tin-glazed earthenware.
