This landmark building is well worth the visit. The artwork is breathtaking. Some say that people don't go to libraries anymore. Well, if you only make it to one library, make it this one. The intricately carved wood on the tall ceilings, some surrounding fantastic paintings. The walls are lined with painted busts of preeminent people in history. Do they even make picture frames like that anymore? One of the most memorable stops on our New York vacation.

Cozy, sufficiently quiet library with light-filled, tourist-free interiors. There is not enough seating and the seating that is there is not conducive for work, though it is comfortable.

The Grand Central branch is my favorite out of All the City's locations primarily because of their staff who has always welcomed me & other visitors with the upmost respect& assistance with anything. There's a wide selection of Reading material in addition to their DVDS which accommodates patrons with all genres of film from documentaries to New Arrivals. This location has two floors to sit& enjoy the atmosphere. The Art displays are breath-taking to say the least. This is my home base location and will continue to be a place where I'll visit through-out the Yrs.to come.

Cool place to hang out and charge your electronics. There is a wild band of homeless that come in and out but unfortunately that's any public library in Manhattan. But good place to use a laptop or read magazines. Just get there early, spots fill up fast.

The books are the only ok factors about this place. I hope i never have to go to the one stop place on the second floor again . The staff and that security guard are rude and condescending. I was told different things by multiple people and then yelled at. The person who was supposed to helping me apply for health insurance went off on a weird tangent about her phone number. Then she got irritated at me because she claimed i was already in the system. I don't know what to tell you. I would know if I ever had health insurance here , believe me. But she acted like I just came in to waste her time.

They have a teen central so I can go play games with random kids. The librarians all do a certain program so i can go to whatever i want. The best library ever.

what a really beautiful building this is me and my wife were having a look around and as soon as I saw this building I new that i had seen it before I was watching a film just 2 days before we left England to fly out to New York on holiday. the film was day after tomorrow . the stone Lions at the front and the artwork on this lovely building words cannot really say how beautiful this place is on the outside and on the inside

I like this library. When I discovered it on my way to my new job nearby I was excited. If and when I'm too early for work I chill here until it's time to get to the office. When I first started going to this library it smelled a bit from the less fortunate but they've done a great job in controlling the smell...... that makes me happy

Totally agree with this review. They have a wonderful selection of books compared with most other branches I've been to recently where the selection is declining unless you order on line.

This small branch is conveniently located near work for me, which is just amazing. I love the fact that you can just place books on reserve online, and just pick it up from any branch when it's ready. The Grand Central branch isn't large by any means. If you're coming here to browse and find that next compelling book, you probably won't find it here. I mean, there are sections for every genre, but there just isn't much of it. On the bright side, this place is really clean. It's not over-run by bums, and people here are just coming here to chill out. I've never really had to wait in line or fight through a crowd, so that's definitely a plus. If you want to use the internet here, you're in luck because they have plenty of laptops that you can borrow. On the downside, when I was here signing up for my library card, the guy at the desk was being kind of a douche. I presented my forms of ID and proof of residence, but I guess he didn't particularly like what he saw and decided to give me a hard time. C'mon buddy, I pay NY taxes, so give me my library card. This place is super clean, and when you combine that with NYPL's online hold system, then you have a winning combo.

I am a big fan of libraries. This was the perfect place to sit down and chill out a bit during my trip to New York. After walking around the city all day, I needed a place to rest until my friend got out of work. They have a beautiful set up and are literally a block down from Grand Central station.
