Butler has everything a library should have. The highlight is the rare book library that you can request to see (and touch!) rare and old books as old as hundreds of years. There are plenty of seating here but it’s almost always full during midterms and finals.

Butler is always closed. It's very inconvenient and unfair for students. College never realizes that we students has paid the huge whole year tuition, which includes the using of butler library. Why does it always close???

I'm a Columbia University student, and honestly spend as little time here as possible. Sure, Butler has its charm, but it's mostly filled with the most pill-popping, cigarette smoking, refusing-to-shower-because-lit-hum-is-killing-me-and-i-don't-have-5-spare-minutes, stressed out Columbia students that you have ever seen (or smelled).... Not to mention the bed bug problem with the chairs! This truly COULD be the beautiful welcoming library I'm sure it once was, but as a student, I just wish they could close the library every once in a while to air it out and give it a serious cleaning.

So I just renewed my library books online. It was super easy. I had no idea you could do this. Some will find this incredibly obvious, but I haven't used a library frequently since I was a kid in the 70's and 80's, so I'm impressed!

Honestly great, you feel the desire to study as soon as you walk in--which is probably why so many pill-popping, pillow and toothbrush bringing students are camping out here (hello finals!). Some areas a fairly lackluster--The Stacks, I love you but you're bringing me down. Still, I'd really recommend going if you want to cram and have an environment that will make you want to. Admittedly the other students you'll bump into are usually so stressed that you should expect several nasty looks, others are just way too deep into their books or Facebook page to notice anything. Go, check it out! Babst is better though.
