I visited the library recently. It should be a great library as a public library. Except for the fact that the kids destroyed it. Go to the second and third floor and see for yourself. The kids are out of control. They talk very loudly. And I don't mean just studying. They are joking, socializing, etc. very loudly. This is done *not* in the study room. They also eat food freely. I have even heard kids order food loudly on their phones, pick them up downstairs, bring them up and eat.

I have only had excellent experiences at this library (any public library really - so I'm a bit puzzled by any negative reviews of the staff). The staff in every department that I visited today was friendly and extremely helpful. I needed to print something out quickly, the person working on the ground floor in the main section was super friendly and patient and I printed my item in a breeze; later I needed help finding graphic novels for my students and other reference books and the reference supervisor was extraordinary in helping me locate the items in the adolescent and adult section; she also escorted me to a completely different area for other research materials. (She even emailed me later to let me know that she placed a hold on materials through the system!) I also encountered very helpful staff members in the children's department. I've only encountered patient and kind workers at this library and I was very grateful to their assistance today! I have also been here for a few workshops in the past. This library has a phenomenal space and extra rooms for people to reserve for meetings or study times. This town is extremely lucky and fortunate to have such a luxurious public space with stellar staff.

This is legit the finest library to which I have ever been. The stacks have everything and it's all amazingly up-to-date. The movie selection is so wonderfully complete (it no doubt has more than Netflix) it's mind-numbing that it's all completely free to the public. On top of that, they have state-of-the-art self-checkout terminals, so I can get my books/films and don't have to interact with another human being. 10/10 for being an introvert's paradise.

Best Library! The architecture is beautiful and the experience of being inside the building is always such pleasure, just physically. There is always plenty of light, there is a wonderful feeling of spaciousness. If the books you want are not there you can always order them and usually they arrive relatively quickly, unless it is a book much in demand.

Best library I've ever been to. Technology is updated and state of the art. They have everything here - every foreign movie you could think of, a great selection of music scores. Who ever thought you could check out music scores from a public library?

I don't like the selection of movies and books on cd. It's very old and not good quality. Staff is rude and unhelpful. I hope that somebody who are working in library will do something about it.

I adore this place. The most delightful, generous group of people who share their resources freely. Staff are marvelous. I am able to find the latest in books and movies, and even foreign films. The place itself is a little palace of pleasures in an oasis of green. There is a free parking. The events are beautiful. Recently, John Walsh who works at the library printed a 3D cast for a man who did not have fingers, and now he can use his hands. Isn't this wonderful? Shared resources can be used so brilliantly for the good of all. There is a magic in this place. Oh, how I would love their example to be shared more!

Very friendly staff, good collection of books. And with the minuteman library network, you can pretty much borrow any book at this place. Also there's a corner for used books, typically only runs from $.5 - $1 each, if you spend some time, you can actually find some decent books.

The Newton Library, overall, is a terrific source of information, products and services. I find the regular staff there very helpful (No, I don't work there). The Minuteman Library System (whereby, one can borrow from various library collections all over greater Boston) is second to none, in my opinion. The movie CD collection (despite someone else's negative report here...erroneously) is fantastic. I've watched well over 150 take-home films, many of them, Academy -award-winning, foreign films, a great source, obtained via the Minuteman System. The free-ticket/access program to various, local historical, cultural event/venues, etc. is also a fantastic asset for our residents. And, it is easily accessed online, as it he movie CD-ordering program. The inexpensive book purchase arrangement is also a major asset to those seeking such an option. And, the common room is in constant use for various seminars/educational get-togethers, etc. FYI, although it can be busy, I rarely find the library at capacity, relative to patrons. My only negative comment (the reason for only 4 stars) concerns parking, as there is a shortness of parking spaces (the library is often well-patroned), and the lot, as well as the street parking, are frequently filled (one can see online the busy hours, if one wants to avoid that situation)...requiring one to drive over to the City Hall lot, or circle around, until a space is freed-up. This bad parking situation is often compounded by a few, selfish/rude Newton residents (not speaking of those with impairment plates/tags) who park in the non-designated parking areas in the library lot (something I would never do), oftentimes creating havoc. Thank you Newton Library!

Only been once so far, but I loved it! Great selection of language learning materials! Woman who helped me was very nice! Was able to get a library card even though I live outside of the network! The only thing is, I haven't yet managed to sign in online to renew books, so I'm not sure if I will be able to renew online :(

Library is good, but do not go for a help with your taxes.I did prepare all taxes by myself the night before and I just had a couple questions. I waited 2 hours on March 8, 2014. The gentleman/volunteer who finally got my papers didn't bother to ask or even to look at my form (1099-misc). He told me that I need to fill out a different forms that he didn't have the copy and he doesn't remember the details of it. When I came home and downloaded the schedule that he told me, I find out that it is not the right one.I am back to square one with my taxes after total 3 hours of waiting and traveling time. On Monday I have to call directly IRS for a help. Good idea to help people, but if the volunteer doesn't know, don't care or is not attentive to his job, what the use of it? Very disappointed.

For over 30 years I have treasured this library. Yes, we are privileged with each staff member's help, endless help from reference librarians, private rooms of varied sizes to work in on a first-come basis, which is the fairest. Light, varied settings, monthly top notch art exhibits, gigantic cd and dvd library. Helpful is always the word.
