Wonderful people and amazing selection of books. Its a huuuuuge place and they even have a special section for children with a safety door so children can't just walk out towards the stairs. Beautiful lunch hall as well.

I feel at home at the BPL. Not only are all the staff members nice, kind, and helpful, but they greet me by name. I feel welcomed. I have always loved libraries and was upset about moving from NYC in 2006 since i never thought i would find a "real" library in Maine. I am happy to report that the BPL is just as good or better than any other library of which i was a patron of in the past. Hats off to, in my opinion, BPL's best employee, a young man named Gary. People would be foolish not to explore what our wonderful library has to offer. All for free and several things for everyone and every interest.

Beautifully renovated. The third floor is stimulating for children of all ages, while the other floors have space to read, study quietly, or browse the Web/research in the new computer labs. My family loves it!

How can a library not be open on the weekends

William Allen

Wish the library had posted on their website that the third floor was closed for construction.

Amanda smith

Love the books and all but instead of spending more money for upgrading the building should upgrade they WiFi and also a lot junkies go there so makes it awkward to go hope it changes

Thomas Flanagan

Great library. The open stacks occupies a large portion of all three floors rounding out their collection of a half million books etc. If perchance they don't have what you are looking for, they can order it for you. The staff is knowledgable and helpful.

Huge library free wifi lots of people hang out there nice place even has computers to use if you need to use a computer or your phone the wifi is pretty fast maybe 50 mbps not 100,% sure bit at least close and if you like books they have endless selection probably most books ever who knows its endless even blue prints from house construction and historical blue prints just a huge epic place really i flew my drone here to see the river across the street

My experience there was really good. The volunteers were really nice and the books they had were awesome. I love the tween and teen section. My favorite part of the library though is that the volunteers are really nice. So on your next visit, tell them how nice it is to have them and be nice to them.

Would rate 5 stars but they put that awful looking cafe area in and ruined the library. Now it’s a bunch of hipsters and weebs hanging out there on their phones. What a fall from grace

Ashlee Smith

Very large library, well organized, accessible elevator, public bathrooms, public computers, and pay to print. Wifi is slow. Free parking in downtown Bangor is near impossible, so you may need to walk a distance from your car to the library. This is a historic building, but it has been under reconstruction to gave it a contemporary vibe. *On the top floor theres a large room available to rent for events or quiet birthdays.*

Jay

The best library in Maine.

Nice library and I'm sure they have great books. As a tourist in the area I was hoping for a room or display dedicated to their local celebrity, Stephen King, and was sadly disappointed. It seems like something they should consider in the future.

Kevin Cooney

Always helpful staff, really good online services

More computers. When I go to a library i expect a lot of books , not so many computer areas. Very small selection. I loved using the maine infonet, there where so many to choose from. With the switch in apps. Thrre are so few books available it is useless.

Jackson Haskell

Huge Selection of books and plenty of fun events and quiet space to read.

Nice small town library......

The internet barely works. They could have spent money to fix it but instead they decided to fix the third floor that had nothing wrong with it. So all during the day I have to contend with the wifi only working half the time and when it does the speed is slower than dial-up from the 90's (and the staff completely refuses to acknowledge it), all while getting to listen to construction workers screaming at the top of their lungs about all sorts of profanity (and the staff refuses to do anything about it). Terrible management, terrible service, and they refuse to do anything about loud and disrespectful patrons (even when they are obviously selling drugs out of the library).

For years, I found comfort in books at this soaring Gothic style library. I have lived through stark winter days and nights on their extensive cd audiobook collection. Unfortunately, I have nearly exhausted my interests in the MaineInfoNet downloadable collection. I find interlibrary loan is necessary for indepth academic research, but they do carry topics for Bangor college majors.

Very nice have many books if they don't have what you are looking for they can get book for you. They have a nice computer area.

This newly renovated library is a local treasure. Every time I explore, I find something new -- art galleries, a business center, teen and tween libraries, a graphic novel nook, and lots of sunny corners to read or work. Whether you're looking to access the internet, find a new book, or attend a lecture, the Bangor Public Library is a great community resource. The librarians and volunteers are helpful and friendly, and the new renovations have really made this space comfortable, accessible, and multi-functional.

The Bangor Public Library is a beautiful library; Stephen King funded a great deal of it. When you first enter on the first floor, they have a lovely sun room where you can read or enjoy lunch and it's particularly nice on cold winter days. The library has 3 floors and many, many books to choose from, but don't worry, they have resource computers so you can easily look up a book and find it. If they don't have it then they can always ship it there. They also have a fantastic children's section on the 3rd floor. They offer many amenities like elevators; free-wifi; a large genealogy section; books with large print; e-books; an online foreign language program that offers many different languages; and computers, free to use. The Bangor Public Library also often hosts activities like Adult Coloring Night and various movie screenings.

Largest variety of services of any library I have visited! Talk to the reference desk librarian to learn about their equipment rentals, visitors passes, etc...

A great selection of everything. Plus a nice deli. Good food at a good price.

jack gondela

Very friendly and helpful staff, good Wi-Fi, and a pretty good selection of books. I was looking for a quiet place to read, seemed like the library might be the answer, but it was not to be. Two chairs were next to snoring women, another was by the guy with TB who coughed from the depths of his soul, another chair was near the loud card game, another chair overlooked the guy who kept nodding off from a too large opiate dose that the librarian had to keep waking up, another chair was by the stairway to the children's section...

Megan Lynn Ropiak

New renovation removed all the character of the library. Almost no space for adults who want a quiet place to work or study. Business center exists but a day pass is required. Overall disappointed.

Margaret Miller-Finch

All I wanted was a quiet space to read and write. I moved my seat three times. I even asked a librarian to direct me to a quiet area. Just settled in when a library staff member started talking on the phone so loudly, she could be heard throughout the second floor and even up the stairs to the 3rd floor. Seriously.
