I have worked at and visited libraries all over the world. Glenview falls in the middle and for such a well funded library towards the bottom.
Facility: Absolutely Beautiful - above average with exception of the teen area, it needs to be bigger.
Children's section- love the idea of checking out games, nice area for kids, good amount of computers, collection is dated.
Collection: Dated. The collection is very old and they seem to have a very small budget in which to update the collection. I find I am visiting other libraries or interlibrary loaning.
Collection Policies - archaic - I don't think any library should have a collection you have to pay to rent. If the library feels the need to charge, they should eliminate the collection entirely.
Online options: Good. They could have more available online but they have good options and selections.
Programs: They lack innovated programming. I see very few STEM classes. While other libraries are getting 3-D printers and focusing on technology, Glenview remains in the past.
Staff: cold until approaching. The staff will help you and they are really knowledgeable. You just have to ask. They will go out of their way to assist you. They even will take a message, research and call you back. Really good people.
Overall, US libraries are the best in the world. Glenview falls short because of the massive budget. The powers above need to visit Mount Prospect, Northbrook, and Ela libraries and take notes in order to modernize policies, programming and the collection.
