Clean & Quiet! Plenty of parking! Walking distance from historic attractions!
Clean and contemporary design, many facility services, limited selection of books and tech. Walking into this place is a real treat! There is beautiful art both inside and outside the building to admire. The staff in courteous and nice enough I suppose. You can check out bikes to cruise around the square and reserve spaces for events if you’d like. The cafe though is ran by a rather abrasive character that runs the business in a rather disorganized manner. (This keeps you from a 5 star rating) Room for improvement: update the computer hardware, replace the cafe (as well as its management), and amplify your book collection. Also increase online reach regarding programs and classes/events.
I agree with Jose. It shouldn't be called a library if it has this much noise. Community center is more like it. I've gone to McDonald's restauraunts that are quieter than this place. I guess the management is afraid no one would come if they enforced traditional library rules.
Great for kids!
Nice place to study snd get some computer work done. Staff is helpful.
I've only been once but I was very satisfied with all the different areas to study. Absolutely lo e the coffee shop!
The only "negative" comments made here relate to noise. I've never felt that it was too noisy. This is a really great place for everyone in the community. It has great programs and facilities for children, teens, and adults. I've never seen a more friendly library, and I feel fortunate to have this kind of welcoming place where I live. For those who simply want a "quiet place to study," I'd suggest a library or study area at Southwestern University, which is not far away.
We are so excited that this is our hometown library! Huge selections, in historic downtown and a used book sale always available! I do wish the study rooms were truly sound proof but other than that, I have 0 complaints!
Extremely noisy! Very few study rooms and the librarians/staff are loud and annoying. But that's how it is here because "it's not an academic library." If you're looking for a good place to study/read you're better off in an elementary playground.
Fantastic, active library. I use it frequently - when testing / re-certifying professional licenses. The only negative is the lack of an adequate number of study rooms. Those available, can only be reserved for a very limited number of hours. You can study in the history room, although they will not allow you to close the door, which is just adjacent to the circulation desk. Volunteers and librarians rarely attempt to hold their voices down / whisper.

Peaceful
quite literally the loudest public library i have ever been in. a casino is quieter than this library.
The Georgetown Public Library typifies everything that I love about living in small town Georgetown after moving here from a large metroplex. The librarians are so helpful and the environment is fun and inviting. I love that you can borrow a bike & helmet!
I absolutely love it here. I've been coming to GPL since before it was this building, it used to be the little one next to it, it's so cool what they did with it. I love the staff to death and the people I see there are delightful. The library's my second home!
Wonderful
Room /computer hours mom-thu: 9:00am-7:50pm. Fri 9:00am-5:50pm. Saturday:9;00am-4:50pm. Sunday: 12:00 noon-4:50
We love it! The children's programs are wonderful! My son is 15 months old and we just love going to play and interact with the other kids. They of course have a large selection of books, but also have puzzles, legos, a jeep to climb on, and other fun activities. We enjoy family story time and baby bounce the best. Such a great place!
a lot of reading rooms very quiet and nice coffee inside and an elevator
I have used several Libraries in the Central Texas area and the Georgetown Library is the best of all of them. The friendly staff & volunteers, The selection AND the fact it is not quiet, stuffy and formal is the reason I love it so much. If you have to have quiet go to your bedroom shut the door or go to Cedar Park Library they are always shushing people, or Austin Library they are so formal & very nice. The Georgetown Library is very homey, The staff and volunteers are the best!!!!
The are very few study rooms and usually full of people talking REALLY loud! The library needs more study rooms especially considering the demand. Sometimes the loudest people are the workers who just love to talk so loud that everyone can hear them in the entire library. Also, most of the library staff are really nice, but there are a few that have NO business being there. Some should go be govt employees as they would fit in better...lol instead of art outside, how about spending money for more study rooms, which be better use of money.
It's like everything else in Georgetown, first class, no complaints.
Great place with variety, art, functions, and good people. They do have study rooms, for those of you complaining otherwise, and I've never heard it being excessively loud, but I only come here twice a week.. and sometimes you have to ASK for help - but this isn't a department store.
They will literally let you check out as many books as you can carry! Bookworms dream! Very nice and helpful. They have a coffee shop, 2 floors and a dedicated children's section with toys!
My favorite library, comparing to north Austin's, Cedar Park, and Leander
This place is amazing. Sooo much more than meets the eye. Don't judge a book by it's cover
We love all the amazing artwork on display, and it changes constantly. Our most favorite thing is scoring books from the friends of the library upstairs, they even have some movies and music cds, the cds are 4 for one dollar...let the games begin.
Very nice library. Drove their to get away from community mobbing and organized harassment and had a strange encounter with a man with a suit that sat behind me and just whistled loudly had a few encounters with him while speaking to a family guy that is being targeted in down town Austin . Appears his partner work for some federal agency . Besides that love the place. Just keep your eyes out for weird people wearing suits , black suv , black suvs and NLP games typical fed stuff like organized harassment.
Great building. Friendly staff. Good book selection
Great Library with Adam as helpful staff!
The staff has always gone out of their way to be helpful!
Loved this place but recently we have noticed the no parents area. However, as soon as you walk in there are books I would really expect to see in the adult section. One that caught my eye was "Sex Plus" loving and enjoying your body. Topics of How to kiss like a champ, The hot spots on your body, and LGBT info. Some may be cool with it but my 12 year old is not there, just yet. Any place in the public library parents should be welcomed to be..and I would like to be the one to introduce my kids to topics not my public library by just having a book on the shelf and being told to keep out
Georgetown Public Library does a great job of bridging the gap between a library and a community center. GPL is a place to people-watch, hang out, drink coffee, and view art in addition to checking out books and movies. For people who are concerned about the noise, the upstairs stacks and adjacent study rooms have plenty of room and have never been too loud for me. The library puts on wonderful events, concerts, and children's activities throughout the year and there is always something happening. I will say that the selection is slightly lacking compared to the Round Rock Public Library or the Austin Library System, but GPL does appear to be adding to their collection slowly but surely. I have also applied for a TexShare card to utilize the collections from other area libraries. GPL is undoubtedly my favorite local library and I look forward to bringing my family here for many years to come.
A great community library and always has wonderful art exhibits and other cultural events.
This place is so fun
I love Georgetown Public Library! Everyone is thought about and catered to here. There is something for everyone. It is a friendly down home atmosphere even though they have hosted some kind of highbrow cultural events, such as their concerts for virtuoso musicians and choral groups which are usually free. I love the artwork and sculptures by local artists that are always on display and sold here, too. Hopefully, soon they will add on to their already gorgeous building and build on some more study space that is kept very quiet, along with some more study rooms, for those who would love to study there but need a quieter venue. I am sympathetic to those who need quiet in order to study and work on writing as I am a 6th thru 12th grade English teacher, but at the same time, being an English teacher, I also know that lively discourse and fun activities enrich learning as well as lives. So, I would hate to change anything about this wonderful place called The Georgetown Public Library... I would just try to add to it. Isn't that what libraries are about anyway? Learning and enriching, or adding to, our lives? What a wonderful place!
Perfect place for a Dungeons and Dragons meetup, teen area is very comfortable.
I think that their selection of comic books is great.
This is a very well-organized, clean library with helpful staff. They have an excellent selection of books, movies, etc., plus ebooks and audiobooks available to download online. If you read yourself hungry, they've got you covered with a quaint cafe in the front corner.
Great new programs and storytimes
An interesting place. Vivid art of the dark variety. Good selection of books & dvds. The only spaces made for laptops is jammed against the wall like you are in time out.
The place and staff are wonderful.
much too noisy for a library. the head librarian should have a sign near the computers , "Quiet Please, it's a library not a chat room."
Awesome place. We're wishing Library's team tons of fortune, health and harmony. Happy New Year!
We are blessed to have such a nice, new, spacious library in a town of our size -- a real gem!
A local treasure in this town for sure! My teens are here on the regular and I don't mind it for myself either. Between wonderful activities, a safe space to hang out and even entertainment, it's a place we truly appreciate beyond the books.
I love practically everything about it, except the noise. If you want quiet you have to rent a room and that's just ridiculous.
Nice atmosphere. Strange art.
Recently moved here and although small, it’s quiet and comfortable so long as you’re on the second floor. The 1st floor caters to youths which is always a plus, great place for them to learn and socialize.
The best
Highly recommend this library, nice and quiet place to read.
