Rare indeed -from the collections they house and display to the architecture and events. Do yourself a favor and visit during a sunny afternoon to experience the full beauty of the marble walls. Yale often hosts events, speakers, and concerts in this space, check out the calendar so you don't miss the next one. Currently they are exhibiting artifacts from the Harlem Renaissance, check it out!

(Translated by Google) Interesting structure, especially inside. It's good to go in the afternoon when the sun is low to see how the light is reflected through the walls. Unique look. The rare and ancient books are also an exciting experience. Outside there is an interesting sculpture garden, especially if you love math.

(Translated by Google) This facility, which stores a very beautiful historical heritage. Although the try to take in hand the literature holdings is required, such as procedures, some of which can be seen through the glass because it is on display in the showcase that dot on the second floor and the first floor. The beauty of the installed storage boxes to indoor center also is great, like that without installing a dare window glass in order to save the collections material, is Thus sunlight stone, such as a thin marble incoming and thin vaguely It is a must.

When I first saw the Beinecke, I thought it looked unfortunately modern and out of place surrounded by the breathtaking traditional architecture of Yale. Then, I went inside... The walls are made of thin stone which allows light to penetrate into the interior on sunny days which gives a visitor the impression of standing in a stained glass cube--it's aesthetically stunning; uniquely beautiful.

Like a Jewelry box. Cool! (October, 2019)

From the outside, this windowless monstrosity really isn’t much to look at, but the interior of this Yale library is quite impressive and undeniably unique with its beautiful marble walls. The library is now the largest building in the world designed exclusively for the protection of rare books and manuscripts. And it has quite the collection to protect, as the building is home to one of 48 known copies of the Gutenberg Bible, ancient papyri, rare maps, medieval manuscripts, early American newspapers and more.

Jim H

Amazing collection of rare and one-of-a-kind books and manuscripts! I was stoked to see a Gutenberg Bible and Thoreau's original Walden.

I never went inside this building because it is in the process of being renovated. What an incredible exposition of Bunshaft architecture (SOM) which features semi translucent slabs of marble but I allow light to get in to the library. Can't wait for the renovation to be finished so I can see that firsthand from the inside *******Revised picture from 2019. *******

Absolutely beautiful. The building is worth the visit just to admire the amazing marble walls which must be seen from the inside. Visited on a Sunday afternoon and was not very crowded. There is material on display on the first two floors, spent about 45 minutes inside to see everything.

This library is a treasure for humanity. It contains some of the rarest books on earth, preserved in an environment that’s made to keep them safely preserved. They have two Gutenberg Bibles, which I think are the highlight of the visit. It’s amazing to behold texts that have been around for so long and that have so much history. There is no entry fee and the staff is incredibly helpful. A must see.

Bill Goode

If you're at all interested in old and rare books you owe it to yourself to take a trip to the Beinecke library. The building itself is interesting to walk through, allowing you to view the bulk of the collection that the public is not allowed access to. Then there are a few items that are always on display, including a Gutenberg Bible, and displays for rotating exhibitions. All of that, and there's no admission charge! If you're in New Haven and it's open, check it out.
