REVIEWS OF Pikes Peak Library District - Library 21c IN Colorado

A library should be a place that is at least semi-quiet. The past few times I have been here it is loud enough to made it difficult to study for college classes. Even with headphones on, I could hear laughing and shouting around me. The first time I came here, several months ago, there was a bagpipe performance. Seriously, bagpipes. I thought at first it was a joke. It wasn't. If you want to have the ability to concentrate and get things done I would go somewhere else. I was in the western area, which according to feedback from another review, is the Quiet Area. It wasn't.

Ahuva BatYah

For those looking for a quiet place to read or study this place may not be the best place. I've been there three times and the first time was great. The second and third time not so great. Some ppl allow their children to run freely without controlling them, and this was outside the children's activity they held earlier that morning. During the children's activities they hold, I'd expect it to be louder than usual with children playing and screaming- they're there to have fun and I hope they do. Today an employee had a lengthy, loud, and disruptive conversation with I believe to be a volunteer. I know libraries will not be perfectly quiet, that's unreasonable to expect. However, there is a reasonable expectation to uphold the atmosphere of a library. It was especially disappointing to see an employee violating that atmosphere. That's just my experience, maybe you'll catch it on a better day.

Its crafty, mostly clean, the only thing I dont like is having to use the computers and there is smell coming certain people, or when the say there closing and you have time but computers shut off 15mins before

This is probably my favorite library for me to take kids to. They have a play kitchen, train set, computers, and a lot of events. It is always neat and clean. I notice a lot of mom groups meeting here with their kids. The children are always well maintained. It’s a great environment.

Ana Gavric

This is a beautiful library, but I have never been in a more noisy library in my entire life. All I wanted to do was study for my exam and I had to move 5 times due to noise and it didn't help. I ended up just leaving after wasting all of my time there. There should be a closed off space for people to study or just have complete peace and quiet if you're going to allow people to be loud. It's ridiculous.

Library 21C: Be careful when you return an item. I returned a DVD and the circulation department called me and told me I didn't return the cover. I was positive that I did. They also said they were going to charge me for the missing cover. If I lost an item, I would surely pay for it. After searching my vehicle and house, I called and told them that THEY needed to look for it. After a few hours, an employee called and told me it got stuck in their intake "fountains". She also advised me that this "happens all the time". Now, common sense tells me they should have looked first before alarming me and accusing me of loosing the case. Well, welcome to 2018, common sense no longer exists. Also, if this happens "all the time", how many innocent people were charged before me? Don't think the leadership in the Circulation Department is very competent........also, public employees not doing their best because of a lack of leadership/accountability.

Love the kids section!! Not only is it large and have multiple activities for kids of all ages but it’s tucked away in the kids section so loud kids are not a problem to people in the library!

This is the best district library if you have littles! My toddler thoroughly enjoys the children's room. He could play happily for hours. It is always crowded at storytimes-they have a few back to back, and you need to come early to secure a (free) ticket to get in. However, by about 11:30 am, the area begins to become less crowded. There are tons of books, and trains, trucks, a play kitchen and more as far as toys go. Definitely a great way to spend some time with your children.

This library has very friendly staff with a desire to help you get any resources you are needing! I appreciate the free guest pass use of the library computers without having to be proven as a Colorado Springs resident.

I absolutely love that whatever my curiosity may be, my hobby, interest, quest for knowledge, anything is possible and encouraged. I've done Tai Chi classes with mt daughter and her wife, I've sewn clothing, I've enjoyed music and coffee, I've researched, printed documents, learned much. I wish I lived closer and I could bring my senior dog in with me.

Great library, especially the children's section. I wish that they had their dvds sorted by genre. If you're just browsing them, you need to know which one you are looking for specifically as they are arranged alphabetically. Good technology focus, but not an extensive hard copy collection. Glad it's close by.

Awesome Library! Very modern. A little shy on books because they're pretty new, but they have a play area for kids if you have a family. It's a great place to go and kill a few hours. They're open pretty late too except on Sundays(till 5pm sunday).

Peter Klutinoty

Roomy, lots of tables, and private areas as well! Helpful staff...everyday!

Mountain Bike Addict

First of all, there is only a tiny selection of books here, so small you can see over the rows. Only have a couple hundred books, pretty sad. Secondly, they put the laptop desk on a wall that directly faces the Sun in the afternoons, the sun shade doesn't anything to block it. No private laptop booths like the East branch, people just walk by and stare at your screen, no private place. Sure, the library looks "modern," but it's not really functional.

By far one of the loudest libraries I've been to. Seems like all the kids in Colorado Springs comes to this library.

Love the library, but I just spent 15 minutes looping around their automated call system trying to ask one simple question of the makerspace staff. Very unimpressed by how hard I have to try to just talk to someone.

Markus Kolozsy

Great resources for creative entrepreneurs! Studio space, editing computers, meeting rooms. Even a venue for events!

Corey Lyons

New modern library! Great place to study or read. Book checkout is easy with the automated kiosks.

Andrew McCauley

Newest library in the system. Lots of interesting opportunities here.

Molly Hosack

We love our local library! The kids library is awesome with very helpful librarians. There is something for everyone, even babies! There is always something going on in the kids library. In addition to regular library services there is also a teen section and in the upstairs a computer lab with fax and printing capabilities.

Love this library! I have kids ranging from ages 9 years to 10 months and they all love the kids room. I love the free classes they offer. Origami was especially awesome. I can't wait to explore more and use more of the resources offered there.

New library... NOT QUIET! Probably the nosiest library I have ever been to. Staff talking loudly on both levels to each other and downstairs there are currently parents letting their children scream and bark like dogs- not even joking. It's Monday afternoon. I'm better off trying to study and do my college classes sitting outside downtown. I ended up leaving because there's no way I could concentrate. Annoyed and disappointed. No quiet rooms- ill be sticking to East library.

Michael Hodgdon

What a great library! Great technology, beautiful facility, and friendly helpful staff.

Benjamin Peltier

Great new library. Good selection of books and I like to go there to do work or get connected outside home.

I am so disappointed in this library. There is either a genuine ignorance, or an outright attempt to abuse a role of a publicly funded institution. For Black History Month, the children’s library staff put a sign up at the entrance to the children’s section that read “black lives matter.” When I inquired to the staff and the communications director of the library why this was the display for Black History Month, their response was they wanted to bring awareness to the oppression and initiate a dialogue with parents and their children. How, I wonder, is a parent supposed to explain such a thing to children who are toddler to 6, 7 or 8 and why is this the job of a library and not a decision a parent should make at the appropriate time? I asked that if they must leave the sign up, to move it to a more appropriate section. They responded with adding more inclusive quotes, which I appreciate, but it does not negate the fact they are using a controversial organization’s slogan to publicize a month meant to highlight the achievements made and the central role held by African Americans in American History. Instead, the organization they chose to highlight is currently involved in several lawsuits alleging they initiated violence that led to the severe injury and death of others and has also labeled itself as a political organization. I even sent the actual clause in the American Library Association’s Code of Ethics for keeping a library neutral. Unfortunately it is the end of the month, so I expect nothing will come of my further request of including quotes from other prominent African Americans who have opposing viewpoints. But I am curious; when National Jewish American Heritage month arrives in May, will the library staff bring awareness to the religious persecution and anti-Semitism this demographic faces daily, or does that not fit into the narrative? I am giving it two stars as my children once enjoyed their programs. I hoped they would have the opportunity to continue building their ideas of all people through meaningful interactions at these library events, as it should be. However, I am not interested in being forced to bring up something my children have never pondered in all their friendships they’ve made across this country. When the time is appropriate, I will be happy to confirm that there are people on all sides who make terrible decisions and people on all sides who make kind decisions and that the epidemic of kindness is far greater than they can imagine in spite of any attempts to divide us.

One of the top ten things about what makes Colorado springs so civilized is the top notch library system. Free amenities, great staff, educational offerings and an environmental conducive to productivity.

Love this library!! I didn’t give 5 stars for 2 reasons: 1: last time we went, there was a belly dancing class practicing in the main library area next to the cafe. The music was so loud. As I was leaving I saw people in the study area trying to cover their ears and study. I get that libraries aren’t silent places anymore (I’m a librarian myself lol!), but that was incredibly loud and unnecessary. This isn’t a recreational center, it’s a library, and it should be treated as such first and foremost. I don’t care about “study rooms that can be reserved.” People wanting to treat the library as a library shouldn’t feel like the outcasts or the minorities. Not sure who the head librarian is, but obviously people aren’t happy with the noise level, and it should be reconsidered. I get the open floor plan, but purposely having loud activities seems inconsiderate to people that are trying to use library services. Belly dancers and people playing bagpipes have plenty of other places they can practice. 2. Almost all the children’s books have the library scan stickers over part, or most, of the title. It seems careless and thoughtless. I took pictures to show, but I can’t upload to this review. Other than those things, this library is a fun place, especially if you have children and don’t mind noise. If you’re looking for a library where you can find books and relax and read, or study, or anything that you’d imagine a library would offer, definitely try another one.

I really want to give it a 3.5. This library is great, they have a little something for everyone. Kind of like a Jack of all, Master of none situation. There are computers, gaming consoles, books, workshop's and more. Which is amazing to have, however, the book selection is limited, though it is compensated by the ability to bborrow from other libraries, gaming consoles are nice but not sure about them being in a library, though still cool, and the internet is good but, blocks website(s) that allows users to read books that the library lacks. In regards to the website I attempted to follow the directed procedure to approve the site however no one knows how to fix the issue. I haven't tried the classes yet however I think they are very promising due to this libraries very modern approach.

Scott G

This is the biggest, coolest library that I have ever been to. Big and roomy, with lots of chairs and tables and electrical outlets. A cafe, a large computer room, and even a performance room. Unfortunately, there are also a lot of screaming, out of control brats, whose "parents" do absolutely nothing to try to control them. Otherwise, this is the greatest library ever!

My girls love this place. Great place for young lady's to learn outside school.

Woobly O'Ball

This place is my favorite place for sure.

Josh Newton

Nice place if you're looking for a place to go hang out and drink coffee, chat with friends, etc. Not so great if you're looking for a quite place to read or study. There seems to be no "quite" room to sit with a laptop and do work. The main room upstairs has been full all day of groups of friends chatting, people walking around with laptops trying to video chat, and constant phones ringing. Would be nice for there to be an area with a the stereotypical librarian "shhh"'ing people. But if you're looking for that, go elsewhere.

Jean Dorado

This library gave my nephew the opportunity to grow his love for books. Thank you for your programs, classes, and influence on his life.

One morning at the library after I read the Wall Street Journal, I closed my eyes to rest them and was astonished when a "security" goon employed by the library screamed at me. I'm not homeless and don't look like it. I'm retired and well dressed. I guess he thought I was an easy victim. I'm not. He said that we aren't allowed to close our eyes in the library. He was stupid and rude. After this outrage my wife and I returned our library cards. After fifty years of supporting the library, we're finished. I will actively oppose anything that the Pikes Peak Library District desires. It appears that the library is only for the poor homeless, the druggies and the goons who work there. We won't go there again. These paramilitary goons, dressed in black shirt and tan pants are an indication that the library is a dangerous place.

Fantastic availability of computers, software, classes and machines for 3D printing, sewing, wood-working and many more! Awesome selection of books/DVDs/CDs. Great views of Pike's and the surrounding area too.

It's a library with some nice "community center" elements stapled to it :)

Kevin Mclain

Love to come do computer work and admin type work here! Computers are always available for as long as you would like. I also appreciate that there are nice Macs with Photoshop and other great software. Fax machines, scanners, and printers also come in handy. Thanks for the great library!

Manny Melendez

This place is great not only for getting work done in a quiet environment, but obviously serving as a resource. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful and now they have a great coffee shop making it even more desirable place to get away and get work done. The maker capabilities are huge with resources and opportunities to do things for free such as 3-D printing.

Awesome library experience! This is way, way more than a library though. Check it out yourself and prepare to be amazed! You can reserve an Ipad or Laptop Play Video Games 3D Print you next invention with all of the best software and printers required They also have books?

Joseph Cammack

The library itself is second to none, the best I've ever used. I can tell alot of money and planning went into this amazing looking and functioning place. Just be aware that If you are looking for a quite library this may not be the place for you. It is often used as an activity grounds for the mentally disabled. I know it is an unfortunate thing that is just a part of life, but perhaps they could be in a less disturbing location for their activities? A public park perhaps. Ive been here twice recently and both times I was trying to study while hearing yelling, and a gentleman who would make wooshing noises every so often. Was very difficult to concentrate not to mention uncomfortable. If a child is crying in a library we blame the parents because the child knows no better. So just to be clear I am not pointing my finger at those who cannot help themselves. Rather those who can understand the fact that libraries are quite places of study and yet still bring those who cannot control their noise level to said place of quite study.

Brett Shockley

Piles Peak library system is incredible. This location has two maker spaces with things like 3d printers, a cnc router, a laser cutter, and many other tools and machines. There is an adult gaming room where you can play ps4 or xbox one. There is even a movie studio you can use.

Skylar

Great place to get work done, meet up with friends, or just relax. I would hughly recommend this library if you have tests to study for, because you can get a study room and study your heart (and your brain) out.

It's a truly beautiful library with amazing resources. The staff however are vastly inferior to east or sand creek. If you have a bad experience once or twice you can write it off as catching someone on a bad day, but after several visits I've had enough samplings to feel confident that the staff (normally the best part of any library) really just don't care. There was a general attitude of 'meh' when i asked anything and in the case of the guy running the maker space: outright rudeness. The gentleman running the maker space actually laughed when the third badging class I'd tried to sign up for filled up before i could sign up officially. Wow...just wow. Normally I've found librarians to be some of the nicest and most helpful people out there. They've always given me the impression that they love what they do. The people I've encountered here have proven themselves as invested in their patrons as a late night drive-through operator. Im sure that this library has some great people too but I have certainly not encountered them here.
