Unlike any other laundromat I've ever been to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First off, it's not JUST a laundromat (I assume this is how/why "The Laundry *SPA*" came to be the name), it's also a Tanning Salon!!!!!!!!!!! Yep -- "Tan while you launder" seems to be angle they're going for. Personally, I can't quite wrap my head around the whole idea yet. I'm not sure if I am really built for this novel approach, where you throw your dirty laundry into the washing machines then go strip down to [whatever you opt to tan in...or nothing], work on that fake-n-bake tan, come back out to the main facility, and continue the chore of laundering the clothes. I'm not a person who uses tanning facilities anyway. I suppose if I were, this would definitely ease up my schedule by proverbially "killing 2 birds with 1 stone". I can totally see HOW it CAN work for SOME folks....I just don't think I'm one of them! So, now that you know it's a laundromat with the addition of tanning facilities (by the way, they do have the latest equipment, on both sides of the house, in fact, but that includes high-speed tanning beds and spray tanning), let's move on to the part I can actually discuss with real knowledge: The Laundromat. I have a small, 2 washers/2 dryers, laundry room in my apartment building, but I've never used it. Since we've been living here (less than 2 months), I've always had a need for a laundromat. At first, it was a simply byproduct of moving -- we had lots of blankets, comforters, towels, etc., that needed washing and I had NO INTEREST in even attempting such feats in the two normal, "non-commercial", household sized washing machines that our landlords provide. [The on-site laundry is not FREE. If it was, I might be more inclined to use it more often. But I should also say that while it isn't free, it is MUCH cheaper than any laundromat prices.] And The Laundry Spa is literally around the corner and across the street from my apartment, so it's really convenient for me to shoot over there. I feel like it's more convenient for me to shoot over there with four or five loads of laundry that I can wash & dry simultaneously, than making 8 to 10 trips (at least) back and forth from my apartment to the common laundry room here on-site. And the likelihood of walking over to the common laundry, full laundry basket in tow, only to find that both washing machines are already in use, is pretty high. I'm not 100% sure how many apartments there are here, but somewhere around 20, and 2 washing machines doesn't really seem like enough. ANYWAY -- At this wonderful, "damn-near across the street from me", Laundry Spa, the machines were all the latest technology & brand-spanking-new when they opened their doors 2 years ago, so everything is still pretty new. I personally have never seen the seemingly inevitable "Out of Order" sign on any of the washers or dryers, and I've also never had to wait for the machine I wanted, and the attendant has always been EXTREMELY helpful. The Laundry Spa has this really cool service ------- instead of having to change your feather-light twenty dollar bill into a pants-dragging heap of heavy quarters, you can just purchase a prepaid card and use it at any and every machine in the joint. THIS IS THE BEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO LAUNDROMATS. Every laundromat should be forced to use this system! Of course, if you really enjoy walking around with 5 pounds of coins in your pockets, you're more than welcome to --- all the machines do take quarters as well. And if you're not willing or wanting to purchase one the the Laundry Spa loyalty cards -- which allows you to earn rewards, by the way, things like a free wash, or discounted tanning -- you can also simply use your own personal Visa/MasterCard debit/credit card at the machine also. And this is why THE LAUNDRY SPA stood out to me as such a unique, 5-star-worthy, local business that I will continue to use. The ease of use at all the machines by just sliding a card in and out is ingenious and the staff that I've met has been OUTSTANDING. Give it a try. Seriously. It's great.
