I have been using Pearl Street Laundry for several years now, and have rarely run into an issue with the staff. While there have been some issues with machines, the space is clean and the staff is friendly. However, over the past two days I recently attempted to laundry and ran into an unpleasant experience with a staff member (older woman with red hair).
On the first attempt, I was unaware that Pearl Street Laundry switched their hours for the summer. I was surprised by the change in hours, as I work in schools, so over the summer I did not have an issue with what time I did laundry. I take the blame on that one, as I never took notice of the hours as I went back to work. After reviewing the summer hours, I planned to arrive Friday afternoon around 7PM (last wash at 7:30PM) to complete laundry before a weekend in Chicago. When I arrived at the laundromat the door was locked. I knocked on the door and the same lady opened it and said they were closed. The hours clearly stated that the laundromat was open to 9PM with the last wash at 7:30PM. When I stated this, the woman could only reply "I have been here since the morning and I am tired. I don't know what else to say." While I get that a day of work can be exhausting, if your hours are stated all over the store window, THEN YOU SHOULD ABIDE BY THOSE HOURS. I would hope that Pearl Street Laundry can improve on their customer service and hours, as I am beginning to get tired of having to play a guessing game as to when this place will actually be open.
