REVIEWS OF Portland Head Lighthouse IN Maine

Robin Gustafson

A gem. Plenty of open grass with picnic tables, gorgeous view. A few vendors selling gelato, fresh lobster rolls, chowder, etc. A museum and gift shop. It was a quick stop for us on the way home, but would definitely spend the day with more planning.

JJ

I enjoyed the feeling of the Lighthouse it was a beautiful fall day and I walked around for about 2 hours and ate from one of the food trucks.

Glitter Bomb Entertainment LLC

Amazing time with my husband abd kids here. We explored the abandoned structures and also did the seaside hike. There was plenty of free parking and we literally spent zero dollars for the fun day we had here at the fort and lighthouse!

William Ahrendt

The scenery, spectacular. Enjoyed a coffee at the concessions. I made video and many pictures. I now review them.

Corey Fogg

I proposed to my finance here on the rocks. It may be a cliche but wow the photos looked great. I've never had a bad experience here and I'm glad we got to have a beautiful back drop for such a beautiful girl. Perfectly maintained and always a treat. Watching the dogs running after balls made for some goofy entertainment. I hope it stays dog friendly.

Carol Daxata Diller

There surely is a reason why this is one of the most photographed lighthouse. Picturesque view! There are a few places in Maine that deserve this word and this lighthouse Is one of them. The water and the view is so peaceful that it is almost tranquilizing. The park around it is a Perfect spot for picnic, pictures, or lazing around and just enjoying the view.

vipin dangi

In the lap of nature in portland, this lighthouse was like a cherry on the top. We had coffee with our friends and spend time together and clicked beautiful pictures. It made our time memorable. It was soothing windy and everything was so picturesque.

Steak Rare

Very beautiful place for relaxing and understanding US history. After visiting, understanding how US becomes current country with so many ancestors sacrificing their life with courage and far vision in order to build a strong, free and beautiful country nowadays

A. Suzanne Flynn

Very touristy but the museum was good. The also had food trucks parked nearby and they were also good. All in all an excellent way to spend a few hours.

Megan Ostrander

Had my wedding in a small secluded section of the park here. We had a very small group and it went perfectly. Gorgeous views with so much to see. We just visited for our second anniversary and it was just as magical as it had been on the big day.

Johan Jonsson

Beautiful lighthouse in spectacular settings. A must visit. Souvenir shop, ice cream stands etc on the site. Disabled parking available close to the lighthouse. Wheel chair accessible path along the coast on both sides. Parking fee introduced from July 2019.

Kate Castonguay

This is postcard Maine. Beyond the lighthouse there are lots of trails and forts. The view of the ocean and channel are great. There's a cute little beach near the bottom parking closest to entrance from road.

Samsudin Kamis

This is a huge park and inside Fort Williams. Plenty of paid parking and overflow parking. Also a great please to see sunrise, the gate open at 4:30 am in summer so you can see the beautiful sunrise. Make sure you wear long sleeves since there are mosquitoes in summer.

Christy Lutz

Beautiful views! We had a gorgeous day. Saw a cruise ship go past! Delightful!

cheryl finnerty

A historical masterpiece. So happy this has been preserved. School groups there when we visited. What a great educational experience for them!

Cougars & Tigers

Beautiful lighthouse, worth seeing. Good to note that the main gate to get into the park is only open certain hours, I believe dawn to dusk. If the gate is closed there really isn't an easy way to get in and see it.

Liz Huber

Fort Williams Park and the Portland Headlight are one of my favorite places! Of course, I'm a bit partial since this is where I accepted my husband's wedding proposal. People of all ages will enjoy seeing the beautiful rocky Maine coastline protected by the lighthouse. The old batteries provide both a history lesson and a fun climbing experience. A great place for flying a kite, having a picnic, and soaking up the sun.

Wendi Nesbitt

Absolutely gorgeous! Only paid $4 for parking and we enjoyed the lighthouse and the grounds immensely. Well kept. They had a tour buy we opted to go ourselves.

Bonnie R.

Portland Head Lights/ Fort Williams: This to me, is a place to breathe the ocean air that surrounds this beautiful historical landmark. A great place for family gathering, walks, and to enjoy the forts that was used in war. I love the lighthouse and watching the ocean water splashing against the rocks it is a stress relief and relaxing to me . I hope others enjoy this landmark as much as I have over the years. In the near future there may be a fee For parking , but worth it as far as I'm concerned.

Karen Sawyer

I am from Maine but now live in Florida. Love to visit here when I come to visit. Love this place.

Rick Stilphen

Should be 5 stars for the great beauty of the area. The 4 stars is because of the parking kiosks. It's a minimum 2 hour charge. If you move your car to another lot within the park you have to pay AGAIN to park. JUST RIDICULOUS!!

Emily I

So much history in one place! The park and it's views are absolutely breathtaking. Definitely recommend everyone to stop here to walk around the grounds for a bit. Parking is $2 an hour with a minimum of 2 hours (as of 7/22/19), but it doesn't cost anything to walk around.

Connor Baird

Gorgeous views! There are several trails to a few different parks and a couple of really neat places where you can go down to the water. Even an off the leash place for your dog to go to.

V S

Beautiful, magical place. Not to mention we had the very best food we had the entire time we were in Maine right here! The little lobster and coffee stand were amazing

Ynet SV

It's a nice walking route with possibilities to get close to the sea over the rocks. The lighthouse is what you can expect, nice looking but many many tourists. What I liked the most was smell if the sea. It's a nice area with nice sights.

Abby Davis

The park was beautiful and there was so much to do and explore. the trails were nicely maintained!

Kirsten Alana Photography

Don’t let the hours fool you, the park and grounds are open past 4 PM. And the lighthouse is actually at its best in the late afternoon or evening light. Definitely aim to visit for Golden Hour and sunset. But be prepared to pay an arm and a leg for parking in the lots for the lighthouse. It’s a minimum of 2 hours and several dollars per hour. Considering most people just want to visit for a few minutes, it’s quite an obscene cost. But... worth the price. It’s truly a beautiful spot on the Maine coast.

Sami Walker

We visited the day after nor'Easter October 17, 2019. The ocean was still angry after the storm and provide some beautiful waves and very high splashes against the rocks. The light house was a must see and would be great with or without an angry sea.

David Mannella

Stay on the path to the right for best views. You can also walk on granite rocks near the water from this location.

Arjun Menon

Nice place. Good views, good history. Wouldn't hurt to put a flippin garbage bin on the grounds.

Megan Boursiquot

This is like ttly the coolest place!! Make sure u have lotsa time to spend here....sit on the boulders by the water, or walk the path along the harbor; explore the museum, buy a painting by a local artist. This is very pretty in the summer with the wild roses and other flowers in bloom

Alan Stopko

Most photographed Lighthouse. Beautiful view of ocean and harbor entrance. Has strong history of helping ships enter harbor and staying of rocky shore and surrounding islands. Pleasant surprise was 2 lobster food trucks in parking lots. The curried lobster roll, Cape Cod chips and Ginger Soda were eaten at a picnic table with a spectacular view. Try the 1 mile cliff walk with its scenic views of rocky coast, lighthouse, islands and harbor.

Katie Burkhart

Beautiful coastline. Easy to stroll paths, as well as access to the rocky coastline to get away from some of the crowds and explore/ get more views.

Deric Stone

Nice historical museum with some science and some politics of the world of lighthouses. Nice places to walk around outside. Minimum parking at the meter of $4 and $2 per adult for the museum.

richard desGranges

By far the most beautiful lighthouse on our trip. We got up at 430am to be out of our hotel room at 530am. We got there just when the sun started to paint the sky in colors. Do your yourself a favor and get to see this before you die in person.

Harrison Maseko

First lighthouse in New England, USA. Awesome sight! Nice little educative museum. My first lighthouse to visit, ever!

Maranda Nielson

This is a must see when you go to Maine. It is absolutely beautiful! There is also a great cart where you can get lobster rolls and they are to die for.

Jennifer Jones

Breathtaking, views from three sides of the lighthouse. You can walk right up to it! Completed in 1791 it is a National Civil Engineering Landmark. The ocean waves beating on the cliff rocks added to the awesomeness.

Patty Duquette

Views are fantastic. Great place to walk. The smell of the ocean. Have a picnic. Just a great place!

Blair Woerfel

Absolutely gorgeous pop off the main roads to enjoy some of the ocean views. Beautiful panorama of the coast from here! Nice little museum attached to the light house with lots of great information. Only $2 for a walk through, so I highly recommend that! Gift shop is tiny and cute... wish there had been more local art and gifts rather than touristy stuff. Great areas around to picnic and grab food from food trucks! Wish we had brought our lunch so we could have relaxed outside a bit more. All together, a great place to stop!

Renee Rus

Beautiful old lighthouse. A must see during your stay. You can explore the grounds of this park. They have a couple food trucks and plenty of places to take some amazing pictures and just hang out.

b praveen

Lovely place near the ocean. It looks like a dream destination. The place looks very beautiful with a small trail and play ground. Best place for family fun. You can pack your lunch and come for a picnic or you could try some amazing sea food near this place. It has a small museum to visit. The island nearby looks great. Good view from this place. Good parking space available. Mostly crowded in summer.

Kristyna Borden

Beautiful lighthouse on the jagged Maine coast. It's well preserved and has a museum available if you'd like top learn more about the light house. It also has an active fog horn which adds to the experience. We walked along the pathway from the lighthouse to get a different vantage point which made for great photos. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area.

Jeremiah Alley

Definitely one of the historical places you should check out in Portland. Even if you really aren't into lighthouses or anything. It's a great photo opp, if nothing else.

Marianne Aldridge

Beautiful views and love.the waves spraying up on rocks. Great food truck with lobster rolls.

phillip mirick

This place offers breathtaking views of what I think of when I hear the word "Maine". Make sure you have an hour or more to explore the scenery. For the best photo opportunities, go past the light house and down the cliffside walk, make sure to have hiking shoes. This vantage has a good view of the water, the cliffs, and the lighthouse.

Cristina Mink

One of my favorite spots in Maine. So peaceful and definitely worth the trip. You can taste the history in the air while you’re visiting the Portland Headlight!

Daniel Yong

Didn’t care too much for the lighthouse itself, but the views and the lobster rolls from Bite Into Maine were incredible.

David McClung

Fantastic lighthouse at the entrance to the harbor in Portland, Maine. This lighthouse was commissioned by George Washington in 1790. It is a beautiful lighthouse with an attractive light keepers house attached and the views are spectacular from this area.

Vincent Porcella

I love this lighthouse! It's one of my favorites for New England. The views are SPECTACULAR, with many vantage points. The park is dog friendly. The areas close to heavy pedestrian traffic is on leash. Areas away from heavy human traffic is off-leash. There is plenty of spots to picnic or play. On the morning I went there were people playing frisbee. In terms of photography, this place is a goldmine! There are numerous places to shoot from including from the rocks. There is a path with spots every few feet to stop & shoot. Recently this year 2019, they have begun to charge for parking. $2hr with a 2hr minimum. I believe $10 for 24hrs & $15 for a yearly or seasonal pass. This is a must see lighthouse if you're ever in the area.

Veronica McCoy

So glad we came and visited this remarkable, well kept light house. All the volunteers were just wonderful. You can tell they were glad to be there despite some tourist who ignore signs. Truly enjoyed the small museum display. The grounds were very well maintained, and clean. Warning, cell reception is not so good. So if you take a Lyft or Uber, you'll have to walk around to get a steady signal.

Joyce Clarke

Very nice, but be sure to visit Cousins food truck to sample their most divine lobster rolls.

Amanda Granfield

Absolutely amazing. You just pay for parking. Going as the tide was receding was an amazing thing to see!!

Mike Bartosch

Great place. The views are spectacular! Must see if in or around Portland.

Angel Morales

Nice light house...required for those grey hairs looking to complete their "miniature light houses of the North East collection"...available in the gift shop. Grounds of the light house were a really pleasant surprise. Rocky bluffs to climb, amazing views everywhere, and a house - slightly off property - that look as though it was made for a writer. Bring a picnic. Dog friendly (leashed).

Frank Mikolajczak

Beautiful park and scenery. The lighthouse is very well kept and this is a "must see" when in the Portland, ME area.

Phil Shaw

Nice place to take the fam and check out a slice of history. The battery is cool to climb on and view exactly what those soldiers would have viewed so many years ago. Putting a lighthouse in this location was certainly a grand idea based on the rocky cliffs and invisible hazards that line the majestic coast here. Climbing down on the shores will grant you some interesting finds such as hermit crab shells, polished rocks, and some cold feet if in contact with water. It will cost you a couple bucks to park but it's well worth the small price.

Thomas LaNigra

Amazing place! The amount of work they have done over the last few years is fantastic. Walking trails everywhere. Beautiful. Not to be missed if your visiting the Portland area.

Bill Lown

Great historical site in a beautiful setting. Well worth the visit

Nate Lambson

A must see if you're visiting Portland. Very scenic views and lots of space for kids to run around. Can be very crowded

Brad Van

Very scenic and great walk along the coast. You can stand right next to the lighthouse from sunrise to sunset.

Lauren Yang

Fun to scramble over the rocks, take the "cliff walk" (no cliff, kid friendly) and if you're lucky watch boaters pull up lobster traps. Can't go up the lighthouse, but there is a museum for $2

Nathan Ralston

I was told this is the most photographed light house in the world. It is beautiful. If you are a little more adventurous go out on the rocks to get a better vantage point of the lighthouse. It's a really nice park and lighthouse to visit. The view of the ocean was right behind me. It had crazy waves.

Al Warner

This lighthouse is my favorite in terms of appearance and location. What a beauty! They have a good gift shop and there's a museum. The park in which it's located has plenty to see and do. You're also just outside of Portland with all that it has to see and do. You can spend an hour or a day.

c r

Housekeeping first: Port o potties are by the parking lot. Beautiful views bringing out the best in people and their pups.

Georgia Strickland

Beautiful location and wonderful view. I love how you can walk down to the water, but be careful, it’s very slippery! I fell in the water but I suppose it’s really my own fault. They also have great food vendors right outside such as lobster rolls and gelato. I do wish you could actually go in the lighthouse, however.

Happier Without Them

It was beautiful and there were other sites around to look at. My only slight complaint was how expensive the museum was and you couldn't go in the light house (although, that's understandable completely). It was completely worth it though. It was gorgeous (especially for not living anywhere near lighthouses or the ocean)

Chris Gordon

We really enjoyed this lighthouse! Our 13 year old son and 10 year old daughter had a fun time with us, scrambling around on the rocks and looking for marinelife in the tidals pools. The local rocks were really interesting as they looked like petrified rock. Great place to visit!

Johnny Miller

Lovely setting and plenty of places to walk or jog. It's in a park and the grounds were immaculate. Spent a couple hours taking pictures. Sea was calm I was hoping for some crashing waves. Great place to have a picnic by the ocean.

Lynn Hansen

Absolutely worth a stop - beautiful lighthouse with a rocky shore. Beautiful picnic areas and food trucks on the premises, as well. $2/hour to park.

Touhid Rashid

As the most photographed lighthouse of the US, it surely lives up to the reputation. Picturesque with the amazing view of the bay in the background. The park is also great to have picnic, jog or to just simply take a walk. We definitely had a great time .

Miguel R

Beautiful lighthouse, with incredible views and many different trails to walk on. There are two walks on each side of the lighthouse we’re you can hang out and take great photos. There’s a Picnic area where you can bring lunch and enjoy the views. There’s also a beach are where you can go in the water and spend a nice afternoon. Cost of entry is free, you just have to pay for parking which is reasonable!

Federico Giovine

I've been living in Cape for the past 10 years and I've seen the park change over the years. The work that has been out in has yielded some great installations such as a children's garden, and a wonderful cliff walk. Whenever I have friends or family visit from elsewhere I offer them a tour of the park since it's also nice to brush up on its history every once in a while. The park itself is great, and should earn five stars. Unfortunately though, despite the paid parking, no proper bathroom facilities are offered except for Port-a-Potties and there is absolutely no waste management in the park. Any trash you have must be carried out. Other than that, as I've said, the park is a wonderful location to visit if you are in the Portland area. Additional Info: Tour busses are available to and from the park and will drop you off in Portland. Food trucks are present in various areas of the park to enjoy some delicious treats as well as buy water or other drinks if you are thirsty!

Sherry Gray

This place is breathtakingly beautiful! My son recently got engaged here and we came up from Oklahoma to be here and celebrate with them when it happened. So gorgeous and the weather was perfect the day we were here!

Gretchen Bumgarner

This place is absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking! No matter what angle you look out at the ocean or the lighthouse, you won't be disappointed. The photos don't do it justice. Definitely a must see while in Portland or the surrounding areas!

Jody Bolduc

I am building the stone walls out back and absolutely love working in this place such a beautiful place and the people are super friendly!!!! The Scenery is just absolutely stunning! Not to mention the sunrise!!!!

Soumyajit Laha

A good one time trip. Vast lawns can be used to rest and have picnic. Nothing inside the lighthouse was attractive. The place looks beautiful from outside. A bit of rock climbing will give you good photo access. People from all ages can do it. Recommended. Spend not more than 1 hour or so.

Caitlin Adams

This is a beautiful area that I grew up not too far from.... When my son was young, I brought him here to see this historical lighthouse and experience the park it sits in... And now I have experienced it with my two young grandchildren.... much busier now....I enjoyed it much more when I was younger.

Thu Tran

Lovely spot to spend a couple of hours. You can get lobster rolls from Bite into Maine food truck and pick up a couple of drawings from the old gentleman artist (with a white beard) who's been there for years (and the prices have remained the same). Parking is $2 per hour and payable by credit card.

Ridzuan Ahmad

One of many lighthouse in Portland. This one probably the most famous and kost accessible. Located in public park.

Amanda Eggleston

This is a beautiful, tranquil spot, especially for those not accustomed to seaside scenery. I enjoyed my time walking around at my own pace and taking photos. It cost $2/hr to park with a minimum of 2 hrs... So $4 minimum. Has a scenic overlook and gift shop. Would come back if in the area again.

Tom O'Dell

I didn't actually stay here but a beautiful location. Perfect location to be within walking distance. Great reviews!

Caro Barb

The most photographed lighthouse in the US and notably understood. Absolutely breathtaking and definitely worth the trip. Area is clean but where are the garbage cans??? You have to pay $10 for parking. You can climb down the rocks in certain areas AT YOUR OWN RISK. Has a cute little gift shop, and a few food trucks that offer coffee, coffee with gelato, and another one that has lobster rolls and various seafood options. Another thing off my bucket list!

YKroy L

One of the historical places of Portland Lighthouse. There's a museum which you can explore about the history of lighthouse as well as the WWI. Also, there's the gift shop which you can buy souvenirs. Talking about the view of the ocean, it is stunning. Really relaxing. We didn't get to visit the kid park there but will make it next time. Oh!!! Don't forget to try lobster rolls. That's my favorite

Natalia Bastian

This place is very nice as you can explore at your own pace very freely. You can get as close to the water as you'd like and you don't have to worry about being yelled at or breaking rules. The place is pet friendly and offers a very nice coastal walk. My only complaint is that you can't go up inside the lighthouse so you aren't able to feel like you fully experienced the lighthouse. I would definitely go again and recommend to anyone.

Kathleen Smith

Just a beautiful place to visit and we had a lovely clear day. Enjoyed the cliff walk. Nice picnic area and play area for families with kids.

Mari Gold Flowers

Beautiful view of the lighthouse from the cliff side path. Multiple places to stop and just take it in. I stopped at the Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse as well, and was mildly disappointed. But, the Portland Head Lighthouse did not disappoint. You can walk right up to the lighthouse, and look over to the shorelines below. Couple of hours well spent.

David Yu

Another one of the famous lighthouses in Maine. The Portland lighthouse property is huge, well constructed and maintained. It is the perfect place for family to do hiking, and picnic. However, you must be wary of finding a park space in this popular tourist destination.

Andy & Melissa McDonough

It is a must-see for anyone in the area. There are a lot of places to get great photos and you can hike down the rocks a bit to get to the water. So beautiful!!

yeshads

A historical site, which used to be a military base (closed in 1964). The views of the ocean is very scenic and the light house is beautiful.

T. Beaulieu

Neat place not only did the lighthouse look beautiful the area around it offered even more interesting sights. We got great exercise and walked along the cliff area trail. Saw the mansion and fort as well. I would definitely take another chance to go here again and just take as much time to absorb the fantastic scenery

Hilary Linihan

Looks just like something you would see in a magazine..picture perfect. Get there early to avoid crowds and so you can take pics of the lighthouse without too many people in the background. I will definitely go here again!

Jeff Owens

Beautiful setting with many historical sites to see. Parking is free and plentiful and there are many walking paths over varied terrain. Gorgeous ocean views. Many places to picnic, play in the park or just enjoy the scenery. The museum and gift shop are also inexpensive, which was also a nice surprise. Definitely a must-see if visiting Portland.

Mark Kittleson

It's so beautiful and you can get so many angles for pictures. You can walk up to and around it. Very nice trails to walk around on. I love that this is available to enjoy.

Laura Moodie

Beautiful, scenic lighthouse with museum, gift shop, and food trucks. The museum is located inside the former home of the lightkeeper and his assistant. The lighthouse is not open to the public but there is a movie of the inside and lots of historical information in the museum.

Tony W

The light house is really beautiful. I took many pictures there and can easily use them as postcards. There's plenty of parking there and there are two food trucks serving lobster rolls! One of them has the famous Taste of Maine name. I tried the regular lobster roll and it's good. They have 6 different flavors. I'm sure you can find one you like.

Gerald Grahame

Beautiful scenery of the Lighthouse over the lovely natural rocky seacoast. Also enjoyed the equally scenic walk along the shoreline...we got some beautiful pics of the area, and enjoyed the walk...

Tim Belanger

A great family place. Stunning vistas. Tons of history. What more is there?

John Barber

Great place to visit. Went as part of a tour and could have done with more time, so if you have chance go on your own or on a tour with more time available.

Tiffanie Angelo

This was advertised as one of the popular lighthouse destination. However the lighthouse was closed to the public as well as tge other building. The grounds were not well maintained. The only restroom availability was porta potties near the parking lot that were very dirty. The coast and water were still very scenic to snap a few photos but really not much to do or visit onsite. No gift shop or visitor info.

Heath Larson

Great views and photo op here! However, it is well-trod and a bit crowded, especially if you are used to “Down East” Maine. Still well worth your time to see the wild beauty and snap a couple photos

Patricia Rosier

Very beautiful and over looking the ocean,we had a great time walking the grounds,it was very scenic. What a beautiful lighthouse

Mike Hamblen

Probably one of the nicest places in America, the light house is beautiful and the for is so cool. Rich in history and a great place to spend the day with the family.

Yann Finkelstein

Go there on a sunny and beautiful day and you'll tell yourself, "typical Maine!", as it is the most popular and visited landmark in Maine. It is gorgeous and they have nice little walking trails around to take in the sights. Close to Portland, so easily accessible!

J. B.

Beautiful scenery. It was tough to get parking on the weekends as locals and tourists flock to this park in the summer. We went to get lobster rolls at the food truck, Bite into Maine, which were delicious. The park was so picturesque!

Dennis Sanford

Great place for families to enjoy the day. Plenty of picnic spots. Fun with the family or quiet time for yourself. Very scenic and peaceful. Great place to get away for the day.

Michelle Hammond

We arrived here before Sunrise the gates are open. Normally you pay for parking but since we we're there before 8 A.M., it is free. There 2 parking spots and 1 or 2 handicapped spots closest to lighthouse. Otherwise you have to park further back and just take the stroll down and see the lighthouse that way. There are several parking lots. We saw many people using the path along the shoreline for their exercise that morning too.

Justin Michaud

Beautiful lighthouse!!!! I'm glad I made the stop from Portland. Timed it really well with the sunset but looks perfect regardless of time of day. They do close at sunset so get your photos in earlier. Overall loved it and would go back.

Wendy Dittrich

Located in a beautiful city park there are lots of (free) parking spaces, open green spaces, port-a-potties and even small trails and old buildings to explore. The overlook to the light house has amazing views. There's even a small beach in a protected cove. Refreshments are available at food trucks. I see a ferry coming and going as well, not sure to where, but it runs on a regular basis. I did not enter the light house itself, we were already hot and tired from walking trails (on a very hot day and this is hilly terrain). Great spot to add to your vacation to do list.

William Kilpatrick

Got to climb around on all the rocks! It was awesome! A little cold, but the climbing compensated for it.

Denise Ferguson

Portland Head Lighthouse is a historical place to visit. The view is gorgeous! Lots of beautiful areas to walk, take photos and just relax. Even though the lighthouse was not open to our tour group it was well worth the stop. There is a small gift shop on the property with lots of parking available. There is handicap parking available close to the lighthouse.

Brad Bogus

Amazing. Can't go in the lighthouse. But def go through the museum, I learned so much. Walk as far around the grounds as you can, it's spectacular.

James Eisenhower

We went there on a beautiful bluebird sky day on Memorial day and it was gorgeous. A lot of walking up and down hill but there was enough parking for everybody close by. We got some of the best lighthouse pictures we've ever gotten up and down the East Coast at this light house. It is a very well-maintained park.

Ajey Dambal

Really nice picturesque setting. Some food trucks are present with great food (lobster rolls, lobster tacos etc). Nice open areas to fly kites or simply let the kids burn off some energy.

Laurie Green

Beautiful morning visiting the Portland Lighthouse. Easy access and a nice walk along the waterfront.

Torrie Tovar

This place is beautiful. It was really busy so we didn't go in the house but you get right up to the lighthouse and you can see a really old one out on the water. Worth checking out.

Takuya Ichikawa

One of the most popular lighthouses around the area. Plenty of parking spots (metered) available. Get down to the trail to take some awesome pictures!

Jan Mickelson

Loved it! One of my favorite places on the planet. We checked ahead of time to see if there was an entrance fee. It said $2 per hr for parking. When we arrived we discovered there's a 2 hr minimum. Totally worth $4 though!! ♥️

Jenifer McCauley

Beautiful ❤️ get there early before the crowds. Lots of exploring to do in the park

Tyler Harris

This is a must see location in Portland. The lighthouse sits in Fort Edwards Park, which is quite lovely on it's own. There are several food trucks selling local cuisine and treats around the park. The south side of the lighthouse has a great outcropping of rocks to get some great vantage points in pictures. It can be a bit treacherous and slippery so be careful but it is absolutely worth it.

Jen Hamerlinck

Breathtakingly beautiful lighthouse. The maintenance of the place is outstanding. Definitely a must see if you are in the Portland area.

Tara E.

This place was so beautiful! Of course there were tourists there but not so many that they ruined the experience for us. The only irritating thing was that there was a wedding party there to take photos and they kept huffing and puffing when people got into their photos but they didn't have the right to say anything bc it's a public area so I guess they expected everyone to put their life and vacation on hold for them to spend 2 hours taking photos

Dixie Mosura

Disappointed. Saw a segment on the travel channel. Expensive, unfriendly staff, food way missed the mark!

Peggy Gilbert

Absolutely stunning! It was windy but the clouds in the sky made for gorgeous photos. Very few people and the only fee was $4 parking. This historic lighthouse was the highlight of my trip.

Jackie L

The most beautiful lighthouse. Great places to take amazing photos. In addition to the lighthouse, there is a beach and old fort to explore. Bring a kite. We have never found a better place to fly a kite.

Sabrina Hensel

It costs $2 per hour to park. I would advise going early, as parking lots fill up! There are food vendors and artists around the area and the aesthetic is very nice.

Tayyeb Ahmed

Really beautiful & scenic views. Would highly recommend for anyone visiting Maine

Susan Hughes

Amazing place to visit. One of my fondest memories. So peaceful and all encompassing beauty around.

Michael Vandeford

Very beautiful spot for great pictures and sight seeing. Park in the lower lot next to the beach for a great walking path to lighthouse called cliff walk. It is a pay to park lot.

Nathon Horton

Outstanding views of the lighthouse and coastline. No entrance fee and only a small charge for parking. Completely understandable with how many people this place attracts. A must stop if you are in the area.

Henri Hollis

Just a beautiful place to visit, with really nice viewpoints and extremely cool rock formations. Just make sure that you don’t have any trash - the lighthouse grounds are maintained by the local municipality and there are no trash cans that I could find. Small quibble for such a beautiful place - and it was incredibly clean for having no trash cans.

Great views, but not a full days worth of activities. Parking is $4.00 for 2 hours and that’s the minimum. It’s a beautiful lighthouse I wish I went in the winter months ♥️

Beautiful lighthouse!! Nice paved roads and parking area. Wonderful that there were portable potties to use. But it's pretty silly that there is a two hour minimum, when paying for parking. when some only take 30 minutes to an hour to visit.

Beautiful view but was a very windy day when I went. Would have loved to stay and look around more but maybe when it’s warmer. The inside was closed by the time I got there but it was still cool to see.

This is a do not miss. Very beautiful. The food was expensive, but surprisingly good. I recommend the Connecticut Lobster rolls and the clam chowder.

What a breath taking beautiful place. So many photos ops. You will not regret going here. If you are in the area, it is a must!

This lighthouse is really beautiful. For the most popular house in the state of Maine it wasn't as crowded as I thought. The views were great and it was fun climbing on all the rocks and doing the walk. It wasn't very far from the other lighthouses and portland so it was easy to get to.

Deborah Montieth

Beautiful, both the white lighthouse & ocean view. Lots of trails. Pay to park. Difficult to finf the 1st time w/out GPS, very poor road signs guiding you in.

Tell your friends you've now seen the light house that other states use as a way to highlight their coast... Lol. Come enjoy the park, grab a lobster roll, fly a kite. If you're visiting Portland, this place is a must visit.

This is such a beautiful spot. You get amazing views of the ocean and the lighthouse, there are wonderful meandering trails. Fun facts to read about. Perfect place for a picnic whether you bring your own or grab something from a vendor. There is also a beach! Will be going back when I'm in this area again.

This location is a must if you want a photo of quintessential Maine! Worth the visit and it is worth the money for parking. You can do parking by the hour and it is reasonable.

A nice light house. Very crowded. Close to Portland which is nice. Parking is $2 an hour for a 2 hour minimum. Not worth the parking price. Just walked from the parking lot to the viewing area and done. Took less than 30 minutes.

This is one of the magical place u can visit in Portland. Must visit place in your check list. At the lighthouse there is a park through which I need to cross to see light house. We spent around 2 hours in the park with snacks and been there in evening time. Waited till it is little dark to see the beauty of Portland.lovely place.

Wonderful place lots to do also and lot of other things within this park you could stay all day

Beautiful lighthouse. Can walk right up to it. Don’t forget to take the scenic panorama photo (like I did). Easy trip from Portland.

Mary Rude

Gorgeous lighthouse. Amazing food trucks with ice cream and lobster rolls. Yeah, there are a lot of tourists sometimes, but it is a big enough place that you can get away from them if you just head far enough down a trail. Very dog friendly, some parts allow off-leash, but be aware it is not fenced in.

Jay White

It was very cold, but one of the most beautiful places I have seen! Highly recommend if you get a chance to visit.

Absolutely gorgeous, this is definitely a must-see. There are several places for you to actually go out next to the water which is very fun and makes for some really interesting and unique photographs. The parking was easy and simple they use cards.
