We applied for our son, who is highly intelligent, just before his 7th grade year in HISD, as we'd become increasingly discouraged & unsatisfied each progressing year, due to HISD's seemingly, "TAKS-test ONLY"-focused programming (FYI: TAKS needs ONLY the MOST MINIMAL KNOWLEDGE, in order for a student to pass to next grade!), leaving most students ill-equiped for ANY college, much less high quality universities! The moment we heard abt Harmony schools (THANK YOU "Texas Monthly"!), we applied & he was accepted! Parker became a member of the National Honor Society 9-12th grades & graduated from Harmony School of Advancement May '16 & is now studying @ TX A&M Univ! The Harmony teachers were, on the whole, 110% dedicated to their work w/our children, even donating their off-work hours, after school AND weekends, to the kids, taking them (w/parents permission) to cultural events, competitions, shows, etc etc, EVEN out of town! For instance, our son made it onto the robotics team from the start & we were BLOWN AWAY by ALL the teachers dedication!!! CAN YOU IMAGINE teachers in a public school setting spending their PERSONAL TIME to promote the children's education (NO, b/c it'd be ILLEGAL!)? Can you even imagine the SUBJECT of robotics in HISD, or really ANY ISD in TEXAS?!! Parker even went to Turkey w/a group of teachers who go yearly, & some fellow H.S. students, for A MONTH (NOT EASY for a mother to allow at AGE 14, but that's how much we trusted his teachers!) on a cultural "exchange"-type program, staying with a family part of the time, & traveling around the country w/his school group, for the rest, for an invaluable & UNPARALLELED EXPERIENCE!!!
Even now, he remains one of a tight-knit group of friends, including even their favorite teacher, Mr. Mehmet Gokcek (an **AMAZING** educator, AND human being, in general, & we are incredibly PROUD to know him!), who is an unbelievably awesome mentor! He even travelled back from across our large state to attend their H.S. graduation last year!

If there's a Harmony school in YOUR AREA, & you have school-aged children...take my word: DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE (legally, of course!
