I don't understand the negative reviews on here. My son will be starting his 3rd year here. there have been ups and downs, but to be honest, you get out of it what you put into it! It's true that it may not be for everybody, but the staff have always been nice, and the communication has been excellent.

My son Tracy Cook and I would like to thank Miss. Katie Heath for always putting her students first! She is always there to help the students with any problems they or myself might have. She is an excellent teacher and Tracy just loves her!!!!

We switched from brick & mortar schools midway through kindergarten (2014-2015 school year). As my child is an advanced learner with ADHD, they worked with us allowing him to progress at his own pace. This year they changed things a bit and send out calendars to help keep you on pace. That took a bit of getting used to, but I do know exactly what we need to do for the week. We aren't able to progress as fast, which isn't exactly a bad thing. I don't want him to graduate at 12 years old! The teachers that we've had have been very supportive and answer my questions same day. I have had minimal interaction with administration, save for prior to this school year's mix up with his course material. He is in 1st, but doing 2nd course work. It was corrected that day and new materials were shipped the next day from K12. They actually thanked me for not waiting until the first day of school to address it and called me to be sure all of the materials were correct after they had arrived. In regards to the negative reviews, as with everything, you get out of it what you put in. It is more work for the parent or learning coach, but the whole purpose of schooling in the home environment is to have that control. I have noticed in some of the groups that it's the same people complaining about working late at night and on the weekends. No child is going to want to do school work at 9pm or on Saturday. You have to be committed to the best education to ensure a good future for your child and that means doing the work in a timely manner to stay on schedule and to complete work by the end of the week. It's simply called responsibility. In conclusion, I am very pleased with SCVCS and look forward to another year with them.

Absolute worst online school. If you are considering enrolling your child or children in this school, PLEASE RECONSIDER! The state of SC should have this school closed. The teachers lack the education needed to teach the offered courses via the internet. The will cancel class connects regularly and your child will be left confused and lost. Who pays for it? The student. Plain and simple. The student is the one who suffers. Your child's education is very important. If you are looking for an alternative to sending them to a public school, this is version is not it!

K12 is a wonderful choice for homeschooling as long as you don't mind driving to the capital city for every major exam or test. We love almost all the teachers and stay with K12 because they will do their best to see your child succeed.

This is not a school it's a junkyard. It works in the art of sabotage throw the whole school away teachers abandon their responsibilities and leave the children stuck to pick up the pieces. You can't play with people's lives like that

If I could give this school zero stars, I would. It was that awful. SCVCS is one of the worst schools I've ever attended. First off, this school lacks communication. It took forever to set up my schedule. Every single time I would try to email administration, I wouldn't get a response until 2 or more days later. SCVCS's curriculum is deplorable. I've had nothing but quizzes and tests. Hardly any actual practice work to complete. I've went from being a A and B student to a now F and D student. Thirdly, the live lessons are awful and a joke. The program they use for it constantly malfunctions. They say the lessons are "mandatory" but don't punish you if you don't attend. Lastly all the courses they advertise on the official K12 page aren't actually available at SCVCS. The courses they do offer are in small pickings and are extremely basic courses. Hardly any AP classes and zero honors. Overall, I've had a nightmare at this school and will be withdrawing from this school effective immediately.

Not a very professional school. Academically your child may or may not do well without a complete 500% effort from you. Be ready to WORK because there's a select few good teachers but some will not help you. The office staff, Administration, and the principal does not return any calls or emails. They'll also withdraw your applications without notice and never contact you about it or tell you why it was withdrawn. If you want to do a virtual public school, you should choose the Cyber Academy. They're in Charleston, but they have testing sites and events in multiple citiea throughout SC, even Florence and surrounding cities so you won't have to worry about traveling all the way upstate. All in all, SCVCS isn't dependable and could very well mess up what you have going. I'm very persistent, but even staying on top of them doesn't always help. Escalating any issues to the office does no good because like I said before they never respond. Don't waste your time or your child's opportunity to get an education. Make a different choice.

Specking from a students stand point in K12, I would not suggest it for the sake of the parents and the students. My teacher lowered my grade from a 100 do a 50, for something that I never revised and tried to put the plain on me after I had proof from tech support, I was promised extra credit through out the 2 semester to bring my grade back to 100 because she didn't want to give me points.. Still haven't seen that extra credit til this day. For the past 2 1/2 years I didn't even know who my home room teacher was until this year, she never response to messages or K-mails unless it has something to do with her own outcome .. I am in High school and NOT ONCE was I able to choice my own electives they where all picked for me, which non of them was beneficial to my career cluster. After 2 1/2 years my advise to you is save yourself to trouble and frustration and keep/put your child in a regular brick and mortar school!! - I AM SO HAPPY TO SAY I'M LEAVING K12 AND GOING BACK TO SCHOOL... TO ACTUALLY LEARN AGAIN.

Platform is cumbersome (lots of different Non-K12 sites to navigate), connection can be "spotty" at times which interrupts school schedule, teacher:coach communication is variable, assignments can be incorrectly logged resulting in "0's", curriculum is NOT in line with the K12 calendar and there are "other" non-K12 activities that are not part of main web site so some assignments can be, at best, difficult to track or easy to miss (extra projects, "Study Island", etc) - We had to take some tests multiple times because of program failure. Bottom line, my daughter with 6 years of straight A's came up with a D and a C -- not because of her, but because SC Virtual Charter School has created a site that is 1) fractured and 2) has no reliable single platform to meet student and learning coach needs.

I went to this school from freshman year to when I graduated in early 2016. I had attended many 'brick-and mortar' schools over the years and am currently in my 2nd year of online college. Of all the schools I have and am currently attending this was by far the absolute worst school by far. Most of the staff where friendly, but many were not. I had a counselor practically black mail me to not report him to his superiors for failing to give me vital information that caused me to repeat many classes. The 'platform' they use a a primary education system is extremely flawed. Most assignments only give a vague lesson with only the basic information and relies on students to practically have to google exterior information for half of the assignments just to get a full understanding of the topics. The teachers are certified, but that isn't saying much as I had the same teacher teaching me history, english, french, and home ec., so the teachers mostly only know about one or so subjects and just wing it for the others. The concept of 'gym+ health' class is ridiculous in this school as they are online they only require that students take a short lesson followed my a quiz each week about again the very basics of health, and then submit a typed out 'journal' as the proof the student did any exercise. Easy to say that a student could very easily put they ran 2 miles down as proof of exercise for gym and get off with an easy A without getting out of bed. Thankfully the education I got in brick and mortar school properly covered sex ed for me in 7th grade because this schools concept of sex education is none. All in all I ended up graduating a year late and having to retake classes many times while in this school. Thankfully I was able to leave this horrible education behind and am currently a 3.9 GPA student in college.

This place is the most terrible school possible. Instead of you guys sending out emails of saying your child is currently failing this course or that course, maybe you can email them what is somethings they can do to pull it up! This school is absolutely not a good school! A very amazing school that I had to switch to because in K-12 I wasn’t learning a thing is..... Connexus! This school is an amazing school they reply to your emails like a day after some teachers may be out of office sometimes so there will be a delay when you get a response but it doesn’t take them 2 months to answer a simple question!! Connections will always be better! I was recommended by one of my friends and it’s much better than K-12 and all I have to say is I HATE IT AND WILL ALWAYS HATE IT!

We have had three children attend SCVCS. The staff at this virtual charter school has very poor communication skills. They are also very unorganized. For two years our children have had to start classes late because the staff does not process the re enrollment on time. We have informed them that they would be returning before the summer ended and the school still manages not to process the information on time. So then we have to call and get many different run arounds about what needs to be done to complete it. So then they ask for every single document as though the children are new to the school!! And this Anita Lathem who was the assistant principal and is now the principle of the high school has never returned a phone call since 2017!!!!! How is this school even able to stay accredited?? The teachers are saving this school from total closure!! The Dept of education needs to investigate K12 and provide much needed oversight.

This is by far the worst school experience my children have ever had. I put my children in this school because my son was being bullied. Both of my children were honor roll students before attending. The live classes were awful. Thr teacher taught nothing. The teacher was never available. The staff was unhelpful. They then withdrew my children without any notice. Two weeks before the school year was over. A week before state testing. I have contacted them dozens of times with no response. I can’t even get in touch with anyone to get the transcripts to put them back into public school, I am having to let the new school deal with it. DO NOT ENROLL YOUR CHILD HERE. The new school now has to do damage control.

Peyton Young

My experience at SCVCS has been awesome because there learning curriculum is amazing. My son is not the only one learn, it has open my mind up as well. The most important thing I like is how they give them time to do there work and it give them the opportunity to understand what they’re doing instead of rushing. So thanks SCVCS for this great opportunity for my son.

They give you one week to make up work. And would rather give a zero instead of a lower grade no matter what is happening in your home life. So, the flexible part that they say is a lie. A teacher that would rather take the time to tell you in a hundred e-mails that you are failing, then grade late work. Sometimes, things happen in families. I will never understand. Letting a kid fail to keep from doing a little extra. When the child makes an effort to turn things in. Even if late. Partial credit instead of a zero. How hard is pulling up a zero. Thanks but no thanks. They are also no help for when things don't work right. And things don't always work right. Not happy with the experience. Also, you have about six different websites to login to and remember passwords for. Very little work on the actual OLS.

Tyson

it constantly brings my grade down 10-15 points for no reason the teachers dont help you with any of your questions dosent even deserve one star

This is without a doubt the best group of staff one could ask. They are very professional and care about students. Teachers offer the best possible experience and customize teaching based on my kids needs. Students are provided with various methods of learning. They can use online and/or offline materials to acquire the skills. Additionally, they offer live and/or recorded sessions. What else can you ask? I would wholeheartedly recommend SCVCS as a great alternative.

Tabitha Smith

The administration and office staff are lacking, they do not return phone calls or emails. Teacher communicates through a teacher portal that requires downloading to your phone and is very aggravating to stay on top of your child's progress and upcoming events. Teachers will return phone calls/ emails depending on teacher. Email is teachers primary commuction which I do not like. Students do learn a lot ! If you can overlook the lack of communicating with parents.

Jennifer Buckley

THIS SCHOOL IS HORRIBLE! I do not recommend it at all. Classes do not load properly. THE HIGH SCHOOL PART IS THE WORST! ADMINISTRATION WILL NOT RETURN CALLS NOR DO THEY CARE WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE STUDENTS. My daughter did not get an English credit this year because the course titled "ENGLISH FOUNDATIONS" is not an English class. From one parent to another, I beg you NOT to enroll your child to this school. If you don't want them in a brick and mortar school, then I urge you to explore other options than SCVCS. My son did graduate this year from SCVCS but he struggled and he was an honor student from NH before moving and enrolling in this school. He struggled not because the courses are hard but there are so many technical issues with the program and the teachers are not in this to help children. My daughter did not earn enough credits to pass from the ninth grade because the school neglected to inform us that the class she was enrolled in was not an actual English class. I had a 6th grade and 7th grade student, along with a kindergarten student also enrolled. They did horribly. The teachers were constantly cancelling class connect sessions and unable to answer questions about the courses. I can not believe that the state of South Carolina has not stepped in and shut this school down. It is appalling. PLEASE FIND AN ALTERNATE PROGRAM!!

Love this school. So flexible for my schedule

Baby Cates

I highly recommend K-12. The teachers and administrator's were all supportive. The class schedule and webinar were of great asset, along with study island and other portals. In order for the child(ren) to succeed, parents must put in their work to help their child(ren) make the most. I also enjoyed the flexibility of completing the assignments on a daily basis, after viewing the early morning webinars. Let's not speak of the one on one attention each child get vs. having to compete with 20+ other students in a classroom. Overall, I recommend ALL parents take control over their child's education...

Alicia Johnson

I am very pleased with my child's first year at SCVCS. The teachers are wonderful and the staff is always eager to help.

I cant even get a call back to find out why my kid was denied enrollment. I've called 3x already. Ridiculous!

As the parent of an upcoming 10th grader for the 2018/19 school year at SCVCS, we've been very pleased with the education that our daughter has received. I feel alot times she has a larger work load that is more difficult than what she'd brought home from her prior brick and mortar school. The outcome at the end of each school year with her good grades and what she'd learned, made all that hard work worth it. As her learning coach, I must say that you have to be well organized and aware of what your student's schedule entails. It could easily become overwhelming otherwise. In 9th grade, our child was in almost all honors classes at the same time. There were occasions when she had large projects due in multiple classes all at the same time, she was left feeling like it was too much work to get completed. She managed to get through it all and was on the principal's honor roll all of last year. We are very proud of her and pleased with the level of teachers that she's had. All were easy to contact when necessary. Some were easier to deal with than others, but that is to be expected among any large number of people. My daughter definitely had her favorite teachers (some teachers/students just "click" better than others I suppose) but we felt that all of the teachers were beneficial to her learning each of those subjects. We haven't had much trouble connecting with class connect sessions at our home. We actually like that our daughter has to take the same standardized state tests and end of course exams that any student in a south carolina brick and mortar school would have to. We feel that this lets us know just how great of an education she is receiving when we can compare her scores to the levels within the state. We have been lucky that the testing center we have went to for our two years with SCVSC so far, have been in a reasonably close proximity to our home. Our daughter's guidance counselor is very caring and was extremely helpful in aiding our daughter to choose her classes for each semester based on her career goals. Mr. Walker has been wonderful to work with and you can tell that he truly wants to ensure the best experience for his students. One great thing about our child attending an online school is the flexibility of her schedule. Our daughter tends to be more of a night owl rather than a great early riser. This form of schooling allows her to attend to her schoolwork while she is at her "personal best". This has helped immensely with a student who is hardwired to work later in the day than traditional school often allows for. The only negative that I could really even mention about online schooling isn't one directed specifically at SCVCS, it would be less socialization than in a brick and mortar school. My daughter is an only child, so she has no siblings to help with that. SCVCS does typically try to have monthly meetings at different locations throughout the state to allow for its students to meet each other as well as some of the teachers. I wish that our area (near Myrtle Beach), did have more options for students get together for fun outside of school activities. I don't know how much chances students have to try and get to know each other during class connect sessions. I realize that during those times, students are there to learn, not to socialize, but if there was a bit more time allowed for this, it would be nice. They do have clubs that will meet up online at certain times a month, so that is a start. Hopefully this review is helpful to other parents that are considering SCVCS through the K12 program. We've been very pleased with our child's experience at the school. It is not easy to do well in this type of school without dedication from the student, but their hard work will really pay off. They must stay focused and organized or they could easily fall behind. Positives definitely include the flexibility of when their school work can be completed during the day - your student still needs to keep track of assignment due dates.

I have been having the hardest time withdrawing my daughter from this school for 2 weeks now. Anytime you call the number no one answers. Doesn't matter what option you choose it goes to someone's voicemail. This is absolutely ridiculous. I am so glad my daughter will be going back to public school next year

I had a daughter that finish school last year she loved it and now i have a 13 year old going to the 9th grade and she loves it. Yes there is headaches trying to get everything together and yes I had problems with a teacher or two but I will never change schools.

This is a virtual charter school, in which your child is in the comfort of the home getting an education. I think it works for some kids but makes them lazy if not pushed to stat on track. The school system is very different from public school. The classes are not bunch together and at one time my child had a full day and it kept them busy. The school credits are different, which im not happy about and they do not go on any activities anymore, which would be great for kids in the same environment come together. I will not say its a bad choice but you have to way the pros and cons and do whats right for your child to succeed.

Love this school. So flexible for my schedule

I would like to thank all the teachers I've had throughout my time going to this school. They all helped me grow in my studies and also as a person. I would like to give a special shout-out to Mrs. Lowery. She was a very helpful teacher and gave us chances to get the best grades possible.

Very unorganized and lacking in communication. I waited for 2 months after sending and sending paperwork, getting updated immunization forms, only to find out my son was denied due to attendance. He was needing to do the online school due to missing school and being behind. Admission is not guaranteed and they do not tell you that upfront. Waste of my time. If you do choose to apply, stay on top of them, because they are very poor at communication.

Mrs. Julie Phillips is an awesome teacher! She was always encouraging and patient with a huge smile and a laugh that said "I love teaching!". She showed my daughter so many cool ways to remember things easily and she helped guide my daughter into bringing her reading level up 16 points! My daughter was actually SAD this year that school was over! Mrs. Phillips is 100% awesome sauce!

We have been attending SCVCS for 2 years. Last year we LOVED it. It made a true difference in my student's life and she made SO much improvement from when she was at a brick and mortar school. As a new school changes occur (as such be expected) some good some very difficult. We are told recordings will be Mondays and Wednesdays, and live sessions will be tuesdays and thursdays. Her schedule: Monday: english LIVE session and math recording

Just Don't Do It. It took 5 weeks to enroll with a endless repeat of work they had either received and lost or couldn't understand. There was no face to face orientation, There was no parent envolvment with course selection. In fact there was very little involvement at all except for a call saying no work had been submitted 4 months later. Then it was discovered we were in the wrong school ( not sure to this day how that is possible).. so we have to beg the teachers to let us do it again.. and we do.. and guess what NO work submitted again.. who knew right? Well work was submitted, classes were attended, I watched. No phone calls.. until 3 weeks ago. when suddenly He's not going to graduate, He does not belong in this school he isn't good enough to be here.. send him to a brick and mortar school or pay $300 a class for summer school.

This is a very very wonderful school all teachers are there for every step of the way no matter what.I love online school now at first I didn`t but now I love it SCVCS has helped me out a lot its kind of help me come out of my shell I am a very shy person and know days where used to you would have to run thousands of things and download them. They upgraded a bit they give you a week to make up the work you have the following week that the assignment was assigned to complete it and then a week to get it for partial credit 80% know if you make a bad grade; My sister is graduating from SCVCS May of 2018.Brick and mortar schools are okay but its not the way to go if you travel you can take the school with you or you can make it up in that week or the next week for full or partial credit. Also all the drama at public schools are horrible.I say 99.9% you should send your child to this school. They do need a little more upgrading but that's all very sweet/respectful staff.

i wish my child would have stayed in school. children need to be social and learn to deal with problems themselves. through virtual school it takes that opportunity away from them.now, a decision that i helped make has made my child suffer. oh and lets not even mention collaborative blackboard and all the problems it causes. you are constatly having to download or run other things to make it work

If you get easily distracted i would not recommend this for you, it caused me alot of headache staying focused. But the teachers are very nice!

This school is great, the teachers and administrators are very helpful, if there is ever a problem it is solved they day of. The enrollment process was easy. The class connects are alright, blackboard has problems every now and then, the teachers are nice and helpful. It takes more effort than public school but if you put in that effort, it's no trouble.
