Terrible terrible customer service. My family has been coming to this YMCA for the past 5 years and due to the last couple events with your employee named "dan" the older gentlemen. We have decided to cancel our family memberships as long as he's continuing to work the front desk. My family and I have been apart of this fargo community for 15 years, as business owners in the area we take pride in our customer service. As I continue to write this review I'm not trying to be biased.
The date was October 21st at about 545 PM, as I walked in through the doors your employee "Dan" had this aggressive non welcoming demeanor suited for a security position and or janitor NOT a local gym receptionist.
As I walked to the desk I inform the gentlemen I did not have a card, as he's typing my information he seemed really agitated that he couldn't spell my last name correctly. I recently turned 25 and my family's membership only allows 2 adults, I told him that's not a problem I'm visiting from out of town and there's only about an hour and 15 minutes left till close. As I asked kindly may I use a guest pass or I even OFFERED to pay for a day pass.
Dan stared me deep into my eyes thinking of something to say at which after about 10-15 seconds of staring he says "this time I'm not allowing you in because I smell a small hint of marajuana"?
In which case I did NOT smoke, as I'm trying to get a nice workout in why would I smoke before hand? I was also picking up my little brothers and cousin from the family care. So why would I show up high if I have priorities and responsibilities to take care of?
If I smelled like marajnuana so bad why did he go through the process of taking my information and making it difficult, from which the first moment I entered the building he could have had said something if I supposedly smell like "marajuana"
I always try to keep a professional demeanor in public because of my family's restaurant and not try to put a bad attitude or name on it. Obviously at this point I'm irritated with the way dan spoke to me and handled the situation.
I ask him "how long have you been working here for?"
Dans reply: "1 year"
As I'm walking out I tell him "you need a more relaxing job"
Dans reply: "I used to work for homeland security"
I understand he was following protocol as to why I couldn't enter the establishment but the way he handled it with his social skills was completely terrible. I've been going to gyms all over fargo and minneapolis and never in my life had customer service so rude.
I used to come here ritually when I used to live here, my family still comes daily. This is the 2nd situation my family has had problem with this guy.
The first situation was towards the end of August when my mother and my cousin *he is of Caucasian decent* he is also about 6'3 16 year old young man with mild autism.
Dan profiled him and claimed he wasn't related to my mother and was not allowed to enter the YMCA, but he let his 9 year old sister to come in no problem. Dan made my special needs cousin cry. My step dad called talked to dan and took care of what happened and we did NOT complain to management or anything thinking it was a misunderstanding, but this is unacceptable for any business.
I've never felt so profiled in my life, because I have long hair, tattoos and a small adult asian male whome looks younger for there age he assumes I'm a "hoodlum"?
Every business is based on the culture and how you treat people. Fercho "FAMILY" I did not feel like "family" or welcomed.
Your other employees are nice and sincere and have always felt welcomed when I walked in.
But Dan he's taking your location and turning it into a military type boot camp and does know how to run a business or take care of the customers. As long as he is at the front desk my family has decided to cancel our memberships.
Google has a charter limit but if u wanna read the full review I posted it on yelp.
