I love this University with all of my heart. A proud 2013 graduate, my whole family has attended this school since the 1970s and it has been great to all of us. If you give your all and get involved in the various organizations, you too will make WSSU your home away from home. A perfect school does not exist and everybody has their own preferences, but this school was perfect for me and I advocate for WSSU any chance I get.

Go Rams! I love my program, adore my professors, and I plan on sending my children to WSSU for Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy. Best bang for your buck!

Came here to drop sister off at a camp, visited the dining hall, had to wait at least 50 minutes to even get food! The moment I got there, it was obvious to me that all of the cafeteria workers were abused as they were a child. As I was almost at the front of the line to get my food, a child directly in front of me passed out. It was at this moment when I realized the workers haven't even gotten a proper education, even though they work at a college.

Well I've been at wssu for 3 years and I have always had a problem with them when it came to my financial aid. I know that universities have issues but theirs is unacceptable from the amount of issues they have! They are always unorganized, losing important documents, never answering the phones during their office hours you have to keep calling until someone talks with you. They claim that they want our opinions when they give us surveys on what we think they need to improve but it never works. Also if you are or want to major as a Pre-Med wssu is not the move for that. Nursing and business is really their good majors. Anyways, overall as a HBCU they need to really improve their ways.

They have the laziest so-called student support services ever! The registrars office and the financial aid offices are the most unorganized and lazy bunch of people I have ever had the displeasure to ever do business with. Stop having personal conversations while students are in the office attempting to get business taken care of. YOU work for the students, the students don't work for you. I am surprised that the same laziness that exists in these offices today was there when I attended in the early 1990's.

The impression I've gotten dealing with WSSU as a Nontraditional-Adult Student isn't sitting too well with me right now. First off, I applied and never received any feedback on my status. I had to call numerous times to check on my app status. Finally, after 2 months of having my app sit in processing, I visited the University and it was finally reviewed and approved. The stress really begins with Financial Aid, I guess they are understaffed because that was a very slow process. I turned in all my documentation and aid was still not finalized in time. In order to prevent purging of my classes, I was told to set up a payment arrangement until Financial Aid is approved. If that isn't worst, the University has a limited number of course options per semester, which either fill up fast, or they only offer 1-3 classes with very few time options available. Consequently, this delays graduation time. At this point, the level of misorganization and unprofessionalism, that I have had to deal and stress over, within the past few weeks has led me to the decision of transferring to another University asap. No Ram Pride here! If WSSU doesn't restructure soon, they will end up just like Elizabeth City. As a HBCU, WSSU definitely needs to "Raise the Bar". I couldn't make any of this up, even if I wanted to.

Im proud to be a ram. College is an institution of higher learning! It does not limit itself to the classroom. You must take the successes and the challenges shape your character! Personally it was the challenges pledging, parties, professors, peers, and pennies which helped to make us stronger! From my experience as a professional, the word "unprofessional" is a descriptive which characterizes many in the world today! Be careful not to become the professional that you are complaining about! Remember the WSSU mssion-"Enter to Learn; depart to serve.

I've been a non-traditional adult student @ WSSU since 2012, I am now a graduating senior. I've had a wonderful experience as a student, and doing business @ WSSU. I feel as an adult, come with all your ducks in a row. Have your FAFSA updated, admission information in place, and don't wait until the last minute to get information in to the proper departments and NEVER depend on them to do your financial work for you, do it yourself! Your ride will go smoothier when you put the effort into making sure your education goals are met. Remember this institution is a place of learning, but also a place of business!

Worst University, this school does not make the best example for diversity. They do not hesitate to engage in reverse discrimination.

I am a proud alumna of Winston-Salem State University (2008) and I would not trade anything for my experience. I took advantage of their Distance Learning program and was able to affordably obtain my undergraduate degree. The financial aid office/staff does become overwhelmed during enrollment, but I'm sure most colleges have this same issue. Both my daughters attended WSSU, lived on campus, and would be able to share their experience of living the college life as traditional students! When my daughters were going on campus tours prior to selecting their college - WSSU sold me as a parent based on the size of the campus and the approachable faculty. My daughters were not just a social security number, they had people connected to them that truly cared if they succeeded.

This rating is only for several of the staff I have come across on this campus. My son attends this school. You can’t half ask questions because many of the staff act like you are irritating them just asking or that you should already know the answer to the question you are asking. It’s a terrible feel and I hope they don’t treat my son this way. It doesn’t cost anything to be kind. On the other hand my son is happy so I am happy.

If I could give it zero stars, I would. The teachers are incompetent and the vast majority aren't even licensed to teach--they're merely there because they have a degree in a particular discipline (that doesn't mean you can teach, though!). As others have stated, the financial aid office is notorious for being wholly unhelpful and unable to keep up with the needs of the student. If you want your loans and tuition to go down the drain, then sign right up! This school has been the bane of my existence for the past four years. I hate it so much and I hope that this review discourages potential students from enrolling. PLEASE save yourself the heartache and pain that comes with being a student here. There are so many other great HBCUs to attend. Don't be blinded by that label, no one here cares about you, your success, or your future.

BS in 2012.. MS in 2015 I love my HBCU! It does have its flaws and areas that need improvement just as any other university. However, overall I have enjoyed my time here and I will always be a proud alum!

My experience here can not be put into words. I have gained so many cultural experiences and networking opportunities. Along with that I have gained friendships and relationships that I know ill last a lifetime. Winston may have there downfalls, but what school doesn't, there is no such thing as a perfect school, but WSSU is perfect for me. Don't listen to the negative reviews and base your decision off of that, come and visit to get a feel for yourself. We have a lot of new, staff, programs, and even a new chancellor. We are definitely on the come up!!! Enter To Learn. Depart to serve. #Rampride!

I love my HBCU. As a WSSU 2009 alumna, it helped me to grow and develop my mind, spirituality, and appreciate even more of who I am and my cultures history. I wish every Africa American would have pride enough to encourage their kids to go to a HBCU, because they will not only depart with the much needed skills for a career but also the skills needed to navigate the highs and lows of life as an African American in a secure environment. My experience with WSSU taught me to never take for grant an opportunity for expanding your mind and gifts, because you will regret it if you miss it. I have built life long bonds stronger than the ones in high school, because the people that I connected with have grown and change and will always reach out to you to help aid you whenever they can because they are your brother and sister bonded for life; you just have to ask, just like in any family. WSSU my HBCU gives my life long pride, family, and direction, because I will forever be a scholar seeking the knowledge to improve my life and community. To all future alumi enter to learn and focus on finishing and depart to serve the community that supported you through your journey. Don't get caught up in the world wind of the financial aid money hustle that most people are complaining about (they go for the refund and not the education) because that money is temporary... the value of the education is priceless and lasting. Finish and be a Ram and not a lamb fatten for the slaughter.

They never answer the phones, they are very unprofessional, and they don't care about the students. If they cared they would do their jobs and answer them phones instead of having students stress about their futures because they're too lazy to do their jobs.

I love WSSU!!! I received a quality education and the staff cares for the students. By the way, this is a Historically BLACK University, so yes African-American enrollment will be higher than at non HBCU's, but check your statistics before posting. You may find your comments incorrect; to the people giving negative feed back.
