As my kids clock a year with the school, next week, i figured its time to provide feedback
My kids have flourished at the schools and are very happy to go to school daily. They both love their teachers and have bright smiles when they see them or their names are mentioned.
Specifically for Funsho, I was unsure of what to expect with his transition to the newly created 4's class. Ms. Maggie is an EXCELLENT teacher, engages and challenges the kids. Funsho is a naturally inquisitive child, but has become more so and asking all kinds of questions based on what he is learning in class e.g. about the solar system, the arctic animals or about snails and butterflies. Other than the education, I really like the fact that they go out to the park/library very often instead of being cooped up inside. Ms Maggie is very caring and has genuine love for the kids. I also like how they are using the technology frequently as a part of the lesson plan. Another area, I really like about the 4's class is the use of science experiments to engage the kids. Funsho especially likes this and comes home and wants to try experiments as well.
Derin (20 months old) - I feel like Derin, of my two kids has shown the most improvement. Of the three classes that she has been in, I am most happy about her existing class and her teachers. Ms Tricia and Totteanna are Godsends and excellent teachers. Derin has really thrived in this class, mastered walking and running with confidence, her talking and communication has significantly gone up (speaking in almost full sentences) and her gross motor skills as well, especially her use of eating utensils and her demanding that she feed herself. Derin has really come out of her shell in this class and is excited to be in the class and be engaged. I was especially impressed by the teachers willingness to encourage Derin to be potty trained and she is already articulating when she wants to use the potty.
In terms of areas of improvement, the minor one that comes to mind is not seeing separate winter shoe covers by each class, one designated for clean covers and others for used ones. Often times, the clean versions run out by the time I drop my kids off, so don't think it is most sanitary to have to reuse the covers. But this is an easy fix. The area of improvement i am more interested in and would like to see more immediate action relates to the availability of more materials to engage the kids. This is more notable in Derin's class. As mentioned above, I saw such a vast improvement in Funsho when he transferred to the 4s class in terms of engagement and knowledge with the introduction of different materials, science project related materials and different technology and books used. It is my firm belief that newer materials and more science type materials e.g. magnifying glasses, miniature farm animals/insects, materials that can be used for experiments such as volcanoes should be introduced to her class.Changing things up and introducing new things to the kids will definitely also continue to improve their interest in class and keep them engaged.
Overall, I am quite happy with the attention, care and education that my kids are receiving, however would like to have the areas of improvement addressed. I have already started singing the praises of kiddie academy to my friends that have kids as well as those that are pregnant.
