FFLO is not just a school, but a family. Every detail of the school is meticulously cultivated to provide the best possible experience for the children. Between my two kids, I’ve gotten to know a number of
schools (both public and private) in the neighborhood and I can offer, definitively, that there is not a school that matches FFLO anywhere in Williamsburg/Greenpoint, and possibly Brooklyn.
I was always impressed by how well the teachers knew my children, at times even better than I knew them myself. On one occasion, knowing that I was having trouble getting my son down for bed, one
teacher suggested I play lullabies for him, because that’s the trick they had figured out with him at school. On another occasion, during a parent teacher conference, the teacher suggested I pack more vegetables for my son in his lunch. She assured me that he would eat them if I did. I was skeptical but followed her suggestion. The next day, I unpacked his lunchbox at the end of the day, shocked that the broccoli had all been eaten!
This anecdote highlights a critical point about the school – they care for the whole child, beyond just their education. The teachers pour their heart into the children's’ overall well- being, from shaping their minds and bodies, to caring for their emotional health. The intellectual exposure of the students is also outstanding. My son uses French vocabulary that I don’t know, recites his alphabet in multiple languages and has a remarkably strong work ethic for someone so young. I credit FFLO for all of that. Dropping off my son every morning, I felt he was in a community that really loved, nurtured and cared for him. I would even dare to say – I envied him!
I am so sad that his time at FFLO has come to an end. In spite of that, I consider us very lucky that we were able to offer our children such a warm, nurturing school to kick start their education.
