REVIEWS OF Acorn Montessori School IN New Jersey

Both of my children started at Acorn when they were 18 months old (Now 2 and 4). Most of my friends had their children in a daycare, but I was looking for a "school." I knew about Montessori education and I was thrilled that Acorn offered Montessori to children as young at 18 months. Montessori is different and it is a type of education that encourages independence and learning at a child's own pace. I LOVED that about Acorn. The teachers here are absolutely amazing and my children are thriving. The Montessori approach is what sets Acorn apart from the other preschools in the area. I encourage others to come and visit Acorn and see what makes it different. Talk with the exceptional teachers and look into the programs the school offers. You will not be disappointed.

After trying two other day care programs, we fell in love with Acorn Montessori school during our first visit with my son, then two, now eight. My husband and I both work full time outside the home, and were looking for a warm, nurturing environment where my son would thrive both intellectually and socially during what could be a long school day. I was familiar with the Montessori approach from my doctoral work in education, but Acorn exceeded our expectations, giving my son a strong foundation in reading and math, but also in understanding the world, in developing a social conscience, and in creative problem-solving. The beautiful five acre campus is ideal for free play and exploration, and the children spend lots of time outside during all seasons of the year. Our daughter, now four, has been attending Acorn for two years, and her love of learning is palpable: she is always eager to go to school, both to see her friends and teachers, and to work on something new. The teachers are like a second family to our children! We love their Spanish curriculum and their after school program, which includes a wide variety of community service projects in addition to its regular unstructured play. We couldn't be happier with our decision to send our children to Acorn!

We have a 4 year old daughter who started at Acorn Montessori school at the age of 20 months. My husband and I both work full time. When we began our search for schools, we were so impressed with the staff and grounds of Acorn that we started there without knowing too much about the Montessori methodology. We learned quickly of it's many advantages. It is a great way for children to learn independently and gain self-confidence. We have enjoyed meeting the many wonderful members of the Acorn community and participate in so many amazing events that the parent association and staff of Acorn put together. Our daughter's favorite (and ours also) was this past year's "Cinco de Mayo" festival. It is so important to introduce languages early and Acorn has a wonderful Spanish language program headed by an amazing teacher who organized the festival. Now our daughter is in her second year of the primary classroom. She loves her school and does not want to come home when I pick her up. I see her love of learning from nature and the whole world around her. I am so grateful that we found this amazing school and recommend it without reservation to everyone!

Sending our daughter to Acorn Montessori School has been so positive for the whole family. Little did we know when our daughter started attending school when she was almost 3 years old that the whole family would fall in love with the community and all of us would meet some of our best friends. It has been a fabulous decision for all of us! As we were in the midst of the preschool search for our daughter, we met a young woman at our church who impressed us from our first meeting. Not only did she become our daughter's babysitter, but she also recommended that we look at Acorn due to her own positive experience at the school many years before. The fact that a sixteen year old would still reflect so positively on her preschool experience and recommend it to others spoke volumes to us. Prior to that meeting we had done a lot of research and had narrowed our search to four schools to visit. Acorn was the last of the four schools and from our first drive onto the beautiful campus and touring the classrooms we knew it was different. My husband had attended a Montessori school when he was younger so was familiar with the classroom experience, but it was all new to me. It was incredible to see some kids working on their own, others being guided by their older peers, and a few receiving lessons from teachers. We knew that our daughter would be able to explore her own areas of interest and develop as a leader and we've been pleased to see this be true during the two years she's been at Acorn. Every morning on our drive to school my daughter tells me about the work that she wants to do that day. She comes home excited each afternoon to share the work she did or the new lessons that she was taught that day. Some of her favorites have included decimal layout work, reading boxes, planet work, map work, folding towels, story writing, maze work, painting and drawing, moveable alphabet, short bead stairs, bell work, dropper work, chalkboard parties, cleaning the pumpkin, music class, Spanish and of course, playground time! We've been so happy with every aspect of Acorn. My daughter has had such rich experiences in her schooling already due to Acorn and continues to grow and develop daily. We hope that other families find Acorn and see the magic for themselves!

My husband and I love Acorn Montessori School! While "shopping" for a preschool for our daughter, over four years ago, we toured Acorn and immediately loved the campus and the atmosphere in each of the classrooms. We weren't very familiar with the Montessori method, but we knew there would be no better option for us, it just felt right. In a relatively short period of time, we have learned so much about Montessori and wish that ALL children had the opportunity to learn this way. Our family has grown and we now have two boys that currently attend the school. They look forward to going to Acorn everyday! It is a wonderful environment where they can grow, learn and explore the materials at their own pace. The teachers and staff are so incredibly caring and nurturing. The feeling of community is abound at Acorn. Many different events are held year round for families to participate in such as the Halloween Fun Fair, a book fair, movie nights, parent socials, a Spring egg hunt, etc.

Sending my children to Acorn Montessori is one of the best decisions I have ever made! Both my children started when they were 18 months old and the oldest will graduate from 3rd grade this year. The school offers a unique combination of caring, compassionate, accredited teachers, challenging academics, and a broad, purposeful curriculum that supports physical, emotional and academic growth. My kids WANT to go to school. They come home EXCITED to share what they have learned. They interact with their peers with grace and courtesy and can manage social conflict more effectively than many adults I know. Acorn has been a wonderful experience for my kids and my family. I would strongly encourage anyone looking for a first-rate preschool to look into it and go for a tour.

Acorn is a wonderful school. A true blessing in our community. Our daughter attended Acorn from kindergarten through the 5th grade. She loved it. And that love of school and learning has continued in her life. She's a sophomore in college now and has been a straight A student throughout. Because of Acorn Montessori, she has always been ahead academically. But what made Acorn really special is the wonderful lessons she learned about being a good citizen, having good manners, doing what is right as opposed to what is easy and caring for others. We are so fortunate to have a school like Acorn in our community, where kids are taught important academic and societal lessons and not just being babysat.

As a parent, I began my search for a preschool for my daughter by making appointments to tour a few preschools in our area. Acorn Montessori School was our first tour. I brought my sister, who is a principal of a highly regarded elementary school in Manhattan, with me. Upon completion of my tour, I turned to my sister and said, "I'm canceling my other tours." She agreed that Acorn was one of the most wonderful schools she had ever visited, and my daughter would be lucky to be able to attend Acorn Montessori School. I am also an educator with over 20 years experience in the elementary school classroom. I have also worked as a staff developer. I was looking for the highest quality education for my children, and I felt confident that I had found it. After 3 years of watching my daughter grow through her experiences at Acorn, I am happy to say that Acorn has exceeded my expectations. The school has an amazing staff of highly skilled teachers. The administration is very responsive, and the community is a wonderfully supportive group of families. There is an amazing balance of providing students with challenging experiences while still giving them plenty of time to play. I'm so grateful that my daughter is a student at Acorn Montessori School and am looking forward to my son becoming a student in the future.
