MICDS is not a perfect school; however, I don't believe any perfect schools exist. I think it is a very bad over exaggeration to say all the kids get bullied. My child has been there for 5 years and has never gotten bullied. I can count at least 5 more students who have never gotten bullied, which means all the kids there aren't getting bullied. Bulling does exist in most schools in some fashion and if it is not reported nothing can be done. You should never stop moving up the ladder of administration until you get results, no matter where you go. My son isn't the smartest, coolest, or sportiest but he is very comfortable with who he is and the school has supported that from our experience. The teachers and administrators that I have directly dealt with during our time there are ALL amazing! There is nothing basic about anything taught at MICDS. Do they have some bad apples on faculty, maybe; however, I have never met them. And I'm not saying they do not exist, but does that mean the entire school is horrible, no. It means there is work to be done! And I believe the head of school is more then willing to clean house if something is brought to her attention. You can't just fire someone because a parent is upset, but if a parent reports a teacher and a trend is identified, then that is grounds from removal. The head of school is a gracious woman who LOVES her kids (all who attend)! She has a very tricky role to play, she can't do it alone and she can't change the attitudes of everyone! However, she is trying to be the best human being she can be and is expecting the same from all who are in the MICDS community! I don't believe in throwing stones, unless you can claim perfection in your life. No place is perfect and all kids deserve a great, fun, and safe place to learn. Does the school need to increase it's diversity in the student body and faculty, yes. Is the school moving toward improvement in that area, yes. Nothing happens overnight, so I think it is very irresponsible to condemn the school for an issue the school is trying to address. It is a very prestigious school and full of wealth with that comes some "uncomfortable" conversations, different perceptions, different values and morals. When you have a bowl full of different oils they don't always mix well, so it takes strategic efforts from everyone to make things blend smoothly. And MICDS is no different.
