Top notch school.

Horrible experience! Definitely don’t recommend a certain preschool teacher or after care hours for toddlers. Don’t expect a two year old to act like an 8 year old! Don’t expect to not change diapers if you are teaching a two year old class!

Preschool was a great experience for my child at whitefield. Preschool teacher we had was so great. However when it came time for testing for kindergarten, they pull your child out of their comfort zone with someone they don’t know and expect them to test. My child is shy, not always, but in new situations it takes her a minute to warm up. The preschool teacher said that my child was ready for kindergarten, she did great with academics, was great in the classroom with the other students, and worked well with her. After testing, they then require a interview for the child. Once again my child is shy, and doesn’t open up quickly to strangers. In the first interview it was the head of the school, my child has never seen this man before, never had any interaction with him... she didn’t understand what was going on, and would not speak to him and cried. So we set up another interview. Between the two interviews I spoke to a JCPS child counselor about the way my child was behaving in these situations. She said it was all completely normal behavior for a young child experiencing new things. That we all do not express our feelings the same way. We as adults get nervous for interviews so imagine a small child and what they feel and not knowing why. In the second interview there were two kindergarten teachers and the head of school. Let me remind you the child is in these interviews, once again she did not want to talk to these people. She didn’t know them, had no previous interaction with them beforehand except for the one who pulled her out of her classroom to test her. One teacher looked at my child with a look you wouldn’t think a teacher would use towards a child and said “this behavior is not normal, she’s not normal, you need to talk to someone and find out why she’s acting this way”. Already did that teacher. It’s normal, but you just said in front of my child that she was not normal, that something was wrong with her. You are in a Christian school, you represent Christians, and godly beliefs.... but you just shamed my child for being who she is. Then shortly there after she let me know that there were ways of breaking a child of shyness through exercises. And the example was, take her out to eat, have her order her own food and pay. If she don’t, she don’t eat. At that point I was done. My child would not step foot back into Whitefield Academy nor be anywhere near this teacher. For a Christian school I am mind blown at the way they allowed this teacher to talk about my child in front of her. It seemed they didn’t care what the parents said, nor did they care what the preschool teacher told me. They had presumed to know my child better than her parents with a couple of minutes of being around her. Shaming and judging is what was done that day. Shame on you for calling yourself a Christian school only because you teach a Christian curriculum but don’t show it in your compassion and behavior towards children who don’t fit into your box!
