REVIEWS OF Chicago Botanic Garden IN Illinois

The Gardens are very clean, well maintained, and very informative regarding the plants and their impact to the environment. The workers who maintain the grounds are very knowledgeable on their vegetation and they even offer valuable tips on gardening. Overall, the Botanic Garden staff are very friendly, the grounds are very well maintained, and it is a blessing to walk around on a sunny day.

It's incredible. A must see for anyone that appreciates natural beauty. I can't believe I've lived here for 4 years and haven't been until now.

Mary Brandenburg

Stunning botanical garden, complete with tropical and desert greenhouses; exquisite flowers & plants in every nook and cranny; and areas focused by theme: the Japanese garden, English garden, aquatic gardens, and even a "sensory" garden for those with disabilities. At the entrance, a space is set up to show visitors what's in bloom. There is also a gift shop, a restaurant, a gallery, and numerous to sit and relax in the shade while walking through the garden. They have shows focusing on certain flowers or types of flowers; I was lucky enough to see the Iris' on display and purchase a few to plant

I love the Chicago Botanic Garden. It’s a great place to take your family or to even go on a date for a nice relaxing walk around a wide variety of gardens. The staff is very friendly and I was offered a map upon arrival which was great. My favorite spots were the greenhouses that are right by the bonsai trees! Entrance is free, however you must pay for parking but it is not expensive at all. Discount for Cook County residents.

Sebastian Rosiak

Very relaxing experience. Highly recommended.

How could you have a bad time here? I have been going here since I was a kid. They have an amazing library and a super staff that knows plants! Also the food is good. Oh anr its free! It does cost around 30 bucks to park. You can always bus in. One of the best places in Illinois. Friendly and plant smart staff, awesome library, and amazing beauty all around. Go here!

Gabi Wonder

This is one of my favorite places to walk! Admission is free and you only pay for parking, definitely worth the serenity I feel while I'm there. It's very well kempt and flowers change according to bloom periods, so it's never exactly the same. You can spend the whole day here, there's so much to see! I come here at least once a week, and I'm never disappointed.

Wendy Gleiser

Beautiful and peaceful alone and enjoy with friends. Dinning options and great gift shop!

Nicole Herrington

Being from London we have Kew on our doorstep which is stunning. However we actually enjoyed Chicago so much more. The gardens are large, but not so big that you feel overwhelmed. The gardens are beautifully divided into themes which sit on islands surrounded by water. This allows you to really enjoy the different themes and have an understanding of different climates. Our favourites were the vegetables and the Japanese garden. The Veggie garden was so pretty, colors and textures were amazing. Who knew what could be achieved with such practical plants. The Japanese section really took you to Japan, the way the trees are shaped and the design of the bridge. Amazing. Only downside is that there is a motorway/highway nearby which you can hear.

Great and beautiful place to visit

I am a nature lover and felt I was in paradise when I visited the gardens. The Japanese bonsai trees were breathtaking. I loved walking around and enjoying the different trees, plants, flowers, fountain, statues and paths. They have a great gift shop and food.

Andy Hill

I grew up with the botanic gardens in my back yard and always loved coming here. Now I get to share it with my son and see it all over again through his eyes. It's always magical.

Reginald Trice

It's so beautiful here...

paul swanson

A travesty compared to what it once was. Now the Garden is primarily a backdrop for intrusive special events thought up by a hyperactive activities director desperate to justify his or her job. It appears that the Garden exists simply to provide decorative ambiance for events such as the annual American Craft Expo or the annual pumpkin show or the weekend weddings of wealthy donors. It’s not that special events aren’t enjoyable to audiences and profitable to the administrators’ salaries; it’s that there are too many of them. These activities have crowded out the natural world—a cruel imitation of our mistreated planet. How ironic!

We now have our second daughter wrapping up her first year with the Botanic Gardens Preschool after our first daughter spent two years there. Three years of experience and they are Fantastic! The teachers are devoted, caring, smart, engaging, energetic, and deeply passionate about the development and education of the kids in their care. And the kids love their teachers! The management has been thoughtful, inspirational, communicative, and insightful. This is a wonderful and enriching place to begin your child’s educational journey.

Lisa Davis

Eat at the Cafe or Grille. Delicious vegetarian options.

Sonia Vasquez

Check weather before you go. It's beautiful.

Sergey Sovenok

We loved it! What a beautiful place! I can’t believe how nice everything was. I didn’t know places this pretty and so well taken care of existed in the U.S. It’s so big we didn’t get to explore all of it. Next time we are in the Chicago area we will for sure go here again. I can’t wait to return and see the rest of the garden.

Hind KH

I had an amazing trip to the garden, I will make sure to come back in spring it will be certainly more beautiful. Ps. I hope that there are restaurants and more facilities.

The very best of gardens in that region. Nice parking spots and vast park. Good thing they charge as per car rather than personnel. They had some corporate tie ups and they allow free for car parking for some companies. Good cafeteria and you get to see some marriages / functions happening there. Extensive collection of flora

Jennifer Horvath

Several different gardens to see. Very beautiful and relaxing. The tram rides were very informative.

Lizeth Padilla

Beautiful get away...near home!!! You can Zen...and retreat from stress here.

CBG is a wonderful 40+ year old collection of gardens. There are 27 gardens, 4 natural areas, a conservation science center, and nine islands, all situated on 385 impeccable acres, which also include six miles of lake shoreline. The gardens are always a pleasure to visit, as each season reveals new beauty and the promise of enormous richness of flora and fauna. I have been a member for 20+ years and nature's splendor is always performing its best show at CBG. Every season has a reason and it is always exciting to see how nature's bounty and beauty will unveil itself. CBG is both a wonderful and peaceful place to visit. It is a spectacular natural space for families large and small to spend time and create new and wonderful memories. Whether you come with family, friends, or alone for a peaceful walk to clear your mind or gain perspective, traversing the garden paths have and will always prove to be very therapeutic. Spring has finally sprung, so pack a lunch and plan a day long visit at the garden and leave feeling refreshed, energized and in total awe of nature's splendor.

We live within biking distance of the garden and my wife loves to run. With a membership, you get free parking so she parks there and jogs the paths. For those with time there are also fun and inspiring short courses that keep you growing. We attended the Orchid Show and thought is was worth it. I'd go again and will keep my membership for the forseable future.

The Rev

Huge Gardens with all sorts of flowers and trees and beautiful ponds and waterfalls. you can easily spend all day here.

Bill Mosko

We went to a teeny tiny part of the gardens while visiting relatives from New Jersey. It was the butterfly exhibit which was amazing. Many butterflies from foreign places and vegetation for them to survive. Staff was nice. Kids had a great time with butterflies landing on them most of the way through.

Suzanne Willey

Orchid show is top notch for anyone who enjoys botany or just pretty flowers. I love the other greenhouses too. Parking fee is crazy, but the line moves fast. Even when it's crowded, it's not too bad.

ahmedi b

car parking ticket prices are too much. $30 for each car. everything inside is paid and expensive too. its not worth at all. Staff didn't know anything. Not worth even a penny parking. Embarrassed and felt like wasted a day of the family who visited from Michigan.

Kaz Komperda

Really nice place to come and visit if you like nature. Me and my wife had a great experience walking and soaking in the beauty of the whole place especially the Japanese garden area. I highly recommend this place for a day to get away from the city.

Braulio Valladares

Beautiful place, perfect environment for the family!! Also the admisión is free!!!!! You only pay for parking $30

Kuan

Totally enjoyed the couple of hours there. My wife started talking about moving over to Chicago.

Prashobh Jayaprakash

A nice location and garden in Chicago. A treat to eyes. The Chicago Botanic Garden opened more than 40 years ago as a beautiful place to visit, and it has matured into one of the world's great living museums and conservation science centers. In 2017, more than one million people visited the Garden's 27 gardens and four natural areas, uniquely situated on 385 acres on and around nine islands, with six miles of lake shoreline. The Garden also has a renowned Bonsai Collection. The Chicago Botanic Garden has 50,000 members—one of the largest memberships of any U.S. botanic garden. People of all ages, interests, and abilities participate in programs, take classes, and stroll the grounds year-round. Within the nine laboratories of the Garden's Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Plant Conservation Science Center, scientists and graduate students conduct a wide array of plant research. The Garden is one of only 17 public gardens accredited by the American Association of Museums. Its Lenhardt Library contains 150,000 volumes—including one of the nation's best collections of rare botanical books.

Very clean bathrooms given so much traffic. Take your time to read the information plates. Fruit and vegetable garden shows you what's possible in the hard and cold chicago area. Loved the bulb garden, pruned fruit tress, grape vines, Japanese and rose garden and fell asleep at the pleasant waterfall garden. #NextTime I would love to go during a weekday, take my time and wear shoes and rent a bike. Know where the picnic tables are.

Mike MC

We go here all of the time. This place is soo beautiful!!!

Lexi Shelton

Truly gorgeous gardens. They maintain them so well. I try to come at least once a year to enjoy it.

Robert Riley

Very nice place. Nice paths and great trees and flowers. The place is maintained very well. Everyone we talked to that works there was very nice and knowledgeable. They really care about what they are doing.

Debra DiMaria

We have been thrilled with our first born's experience at the CBG Nature Preschool and are enrolling both kids next year in the mixed ages class (they are soon to be 3 & 5 years old and SO EXCITED to be in the same class together next year). We love that he is outside, no matter the weather, and learning in such an active, hands on, meaningful way. The teachers & staff are supportive and nurturing. We couldn't ask for a better experience.

T.M. McKee

The Orchid Show was outstanding but a hispanic employee in a brown uniform came up behind us and whistled very loudly. He continued his whistling until he was sure that he had irritated us. This occurred around 1 pm Fri. Just inside the entrance.

AJ Figueroa

Has to be the best botanic garden in the world. Plenty to see. Very clean and peaceful. Lots of special events. AND ITS FREE!! Except for parking. But you can find a nearby forest preserve for the parking and walk to the gardens. Or park by the Skokie lagoon and ride your bikes in.

Marc Epstein

Always a great place to escape the city for the day. So many trails to walk around, and so much to see. I’ve been there a bunch in summer, but recently went in Spring and it was really cool to see all of the tulips, poppies and plants in transition. Love the Japanese islands. Bring a picnic, and ride your bike there so the entrance is free.

Susan Boyce

Absolutely beautiful garden no matter the time of year. Always something new to see.

shilpi jain

Traveling and visiting new places appeals to me more than any other thing. It is therapeutic. Long walks in the woods, fragrant flora, unlimited textures, sounds of the leaves, creating a symphony of soothing sounds and an incredible range of colors for eyes form a sensory treat. I could spend days here without complaint. Nature gives you an extended realm for contemplation And every flower has a story to tell. There is not a single thing I can point that’s my favorite. Instead, everything witnessed has reserved some neurons in my brain. The place offers ikebana of various cultures, nations, flora, gardens, rose garden, greenhouses, bonsai collection, crescent, waterfall garden, water garden, sensory garden, Japanese garden, zen garden, the esplanade. You can also buy good quality plants from Regenstein centre. Visitors can relish smoothies and fresh juices from Fruits and Vegetables Garden- true juice station, but make sure to not have Lunch to enjoy the juice and smoothies fully as they are loaded with greens. #chicagogram #chicagobotanicgarden #sensorygarden #shoinhouse #japanesegarden #englishwalledgarden #zengarden #travel #shilpitheartist #huesoflife #storyofflowers #chicagoland #chicagoblogger #glencoe #travelphotography #naturephotography #traveling #travelblogger #travelgram #couplegoals #weekendvibes #weekendgetaway #weekend #bonsai #birdfeeders #bridgestone #bridges #infrastructure

Nice place to walk for couple hours. Beautiful and quiet. Highly recommended.

Dierdra Roller

The gardens are spectacular! Friendly staff, clean and a great place to hold events, as well as photographers.

Ken Katerberg

Even though there was snow on the ground in late April, the flowers and trees were beautiful. The paths made it easy to get around without getting our feet wet.

Patty S

Beautiful garden . Wish my landscaping looked like this!

Jeffrey Hadaway

Such a great day. Everyone there is so professional and care. Great food. Clean. Then theyre are the gardens themselves. Just beautiful. The train exhibit is so detailed. Perfection is the key to this garden.

Ciel Lanchester

The Chicago Botanic Garden is by far the largest garden in Chicago, and it's also an all-season type, allowing you to visit anytime of the year. The place has a wide variety of flowers, and different styles such as a Japanese side of the garden. I tend to visit this garden every month or two, and you just never seem to get tired of it. If you're a photographer, then I definitely recommend this garden. It also has plenty of activities everyday for young ones and would be a beautiful place to bring your children to. P.S. It also includes a large fountain you can run in, which me and a few of my friends decided to completely soak each other in there. Great for summertime, more likely on a hot day.

Steven Rubio

Great area! Amazing views and colors.

THE LORDS CHANNEL

Place was amazingly beautiful. We had a womderful time. Very peaceful and pretty. Go early or be stuck in traffic!!!!

Glen Spickra

Sarfaraz Nawaz

This place is a heavenly bliss !! Don’t miss it , take your family and kids , love it . Treat for nature lovers

Min Kwon

Definitely worth the membership if you live around here. Beautiful times.

Sorin N

One of my favourite place in the world. I made a routine fisiting this place at least 2 times per month (each time is something different). Member for 2 years is raw and will continue to be. Thanks to the staff of this place for taking such a good care of this small piece of heaven.

Winter Wu

I love my backyard and go there whenever I can. Having visited some botanical gardens in other cities, Chicago Botanic Garden is the best in the nation and world!

Kylee Gall

Really great gardens! There are so many different sections and the gardens are leveled so there are many great views of the whole garden. The place is very well manicured. The walkways are nice and interesting. The staff is helpful and kind. The gardens are labeled very well. BONUS: I can tell they appreciate puns!!!

PAMELA S

One of my favorite places in the world. This is a place that you can enjoy each season. The beauty is outstanding. Be prepared to spend the day just walking, enjoying everything nature has to offer. In some areas you're able to ride your bike on designated paths. There is also a tram that takes you for a tour of the gardens. They have many events throughout the year as well as courses on a variety of subjects. If you're not a member, there is a fee to get in, for parking and the tram. But it's all worth it!

Miguel Alejandro Rodriguez Portella

A magical place of entry for free, there's a tour that leads you to go, but you want to walk, I think it cost $8, I m not sure, there are different kinds of tour with a good explanation, I was when it was still cold but summer is great!! Inside there is for free water and there's also a Starbucks coffeehouse without a doubt chocolate and a sweet cake of very good milk I recommend to go early and walk the whole park.

Suman Singh

Loved it!! So so beautiful and highly maintained. Entry is free but parking is charged. Discount for cook county residents. Japanese garden section is just a pleasure to see and waterfall garden is my fav spot for photos. Don't wear green colour outfits as you wont be seen then seen in the photos...lol..

Stealthy Hydrogen

Just beautiful, a great place to relax and have fun. The service gives maps, and bathrooms are mostly close by. There are even bike rentals, so definitely come here.

Travis

I've been visiting the Chicago Botanic Garden for many years and it is just one of the most amazing places! Right off the bat, let me say that there is MORE than enough to see and do for an entire day's visit, so come prepared (bring water bottles, sunscreen, comfortable clothes & shoes, and perhaps some extra money for the café and gift shop). There are MULTIPLE gardens here, all with different themes and cultural references. One of the highlights is the beautiful Japanese Garden, which is on an island after walking across a wooden bridge. The views are stunning as are the exquisitely detailed tree prunes. There is a fruit & vegetable garden which is full of all types of growing things. The landscaping is superb and well-maintained, and the pathways are all easy to walk on (most are either paved or light gravel). The kids seem to love the model railroad garden, which can be viewed with a modest fee. My favorite thing is taking photos and videos, and I could easily spend multiple days here during every season of the year! It's a perfect place to take amateur photos without a license, but professional or event photos require a pretty expensive license fee (see their website). I drive about 3 1/2 hours to see this place pretty regularly, and it's worth it every time! Bring your friends, family, and children because it's a place that everyone can enjoy (unless you absolutely hate the outdoors, hate nature, and or hate walking). There are trams tours, biking, and such too for those who like a different experience than just walking. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Outlaw Rebel Girl

I took my husband here on our first date. He was in awe and had never been to such a beautiful place. One of my all time favorites to visit and one of the best places to spend the day at. Always wear comfortable shoes, bring sun protection, and take your time to experience it all.

Kiran Srimat Kandala

Excellent place to spend a full day.

Steve Lattimore

Pretty sure I have heard the Mexicans here saying some pretty terrible things in Spanish. Also the Bonsais are not as old as they say they are. A tiny sign says they are just as old as they “look.”

Jae Chong

Beautiful garden. Dinning option is good. Must visit place. Easily can spend whole day.

Brian Chan

Always beautiful and you can bike in for free parking!

Tyler Lohrmann

A great show for national Bonzia day

Rosi García

Even though is fall and it was a bit chilly. It is still a great place to visit. The Japanese garden was beautiful. Bonsai trees were so cute but dont touch them. Hopefully by next summer the new upgrades would be ready and open to explore. Check out their website, there's plenty to do. From kids to grandma. Lots of classes. Cant wait to visit in the spring.

Cate Marino

My son has attended preschool at the Botanic Gardens for 2 years. He has had an amazing experience. He started off as a very reluctant student and was shy to even enter the class. The teachers came up with successful ways to help him transitition. He has learned so much about nature and loves to talk about all he has learned. I read a study recently stating that children who spend time in nature are happier even as adults. We know our son’s experience at Botanic Gardens preschool will always be a positive imprint in his memory. We are thankful to all the teachers who have made his learning and memories possible.

Heleena

This location outside of Chicago is not just one garden, it is a garden of over twenty gardens, each beautiful garden with it's own theme. They are all pleasant to walk through. Plan to make a day trip out of this, but eat before or after because the food on site is a little expensive. Wear good walking shoes, dress comfortable for walking miles on end (almost like hiking), and bring lots of water and you'll have a good time!

Travis Wilker

My wife and I love coming here. Here we relax more than in any other park we've visited though there were a couple of that in our lives. Now it feels almost like a second home for us. Sometimes, when we are away for a longer time, we almost miss this place.

Vikraman Kesavan

Such a wonderful serene place to go for any age. It's like paradise. Unlimited bliss. Every garden in it is beautiful in itself. Nice food in the restaurant. Take your camera or bicycle or picnic mat or jogging

Oliver Crown

One of the nicest places around. The scenery is breathtaking. Japanese gardeners and waterfall garden is the best. Amazing place and very relaxing. Plenty of food and great beer garden. Highly recommend.

Christian Zirkel

Women at the butterfly exhibit was rude and told us to “take a chill pill” Will not return or spend another penny here. Harassing customers is never okay. Rude employees

Tina Lowry

My daughter is looking for a wedding venue, we heard that the gardens offer wedding options. When we arrived a wedding was taking place, the area was closed for a private event but because it was outside we were able to see how a wedding is set up, and also see the areas for happy hour and dinner. Very beautiful and so many photo opportunities for the couple. The information desk cannot give wedding information but directs you to their website.

Jack Hoffman

Late summer in the garden, spectacular

Nicole Bessette

It was my first time going there and let me tell you, the staff was so great! I was greeted right away. I went to the information desk and this lady named Keri was so nice and accommodating! She gave me a lot of different options for me to do, she was so polite and made my experience the best! I will be back again!

This pre-school is is a hidden gem! First of all, being a Nature preschool, the students are outside all year (safe weather permitting) exploring the beautiful landscapes of the Chicago Botanic Gardens. They are getting what so many of us and our children are craving-more time in nature, learning and growing and re-connecting. In this preschool children really get to be children, and with that they learn and develop in ways that are appropriate to their age. In a world saturated with screens, this preschool is welcomed reprieve. The teachers are special trained not only in early childhood development, but also specifically in inspiring play through nature education. They definitely provide a nurturing learning environment helping children learn important age appropriate skills. The teachers also encourage a wonderful community within the classroom and amongst the families with various extra activities and opportunities. The facilities are second to none- beautiful and inspiring. I kind of wish I could be a preschooler again! My child attended the preschool for two years and I hope to send my other children here as well. Despite their being numerous quality preschools much nearer my home, I felt the Nature Preschool provided opportunities we could not find anywhere else. I’m so grateful for the wonderful experiences she has had at the Nature Preschool.

Chris Carroll

Lovely gardens during any season. They also have nice special exhibits and great food.

pisica vesela

Great variety of different style gardens, they also have a seasonal butterfly garden. You can easily spend the entire day there.

Adam Stricker

This a beautiful way to spend a Saturday afternoon with so many neat things for the kids to do! My son Donovan loved the Wonderland train exhibit and we look forward to checking out more of the gardens next time!

Sean Barrett

A pretty nice facility on the north shore in the suburbs just north of Chicago. We visited at the beginning of the spring growing season so everything hadn't come up yet unfortunately. We were disappointed that so many flower beds and plant areas were not dressed up at all or multi-purposed in another way to give us nice things to look at in certain large areas. The zen garden areas are fantastic!! There are some absolutely beautiful plants, flowers and trees of all different types and I definitely want to go back when everything is in full bloom because there is so much to see! I most definitely recommend this place in late spring or early summer when you can fully enjoy the entire experience!!

Zoltan Kovacs

Love spending time in nature, their exhibits are also worth seeing. Have to try the burgers in the cafe! Got to love nature! The garden has so much to offer!

Debra DiMaria

Great place to spend your time with family!

Narwhal

Beautiful and well kept. I can't belive they only charge per car.

Alvin Black III

So much to see here, you can spend hours walking around! The Metra access makes it so convenient as well.

Fee Li

Been dropping groups off at this place for years, today was my first time exploring. I absolutely love nature and it was breathtaking and beautiful. I can just imagine it's even more beautiful in spring & summer

Mikee

Butterflies and bloom exhibit. Seasonal.

Isaac Cordova

Relaxing place. Beautiful landscapes. Enjoy alone or with friends or family.

Caleb Hunyadi

These gardens are a place where expert arcitecture meets the beauty of nature. Gorgeous flowers and gardens, rivers and ponds, good food and plenty of areas to take in the beauty of creation. Kids have their own special play area too! You won't be bored here unless you hate everything that defines beauty. Wish my time here was longer so I could take in all of the amazing sights for even longer!

w. liang

It is a breathtaking place where is not only like a paradise but heaven to abscond the urban for a reassured day. I love to go there all year around, for they have differently gorgeous gardens with evergreen verdure, fabulous blooms ,inconceivable sapling. A immense incentive and treat for your mind and body. On May 24, fortunately, I saw the Corpse flower which had been opening for 24 hours before it closed. What a lucky junction for me.

Richard Theilen

What a fantastic day, beautiful weather Fantastic staff that work there. Took my wife here to get a healthy walk and she loves her butterflies and she was not disappointed. I highly recommend this amazing place!!!!

Victoria Hedlund

Gorgeous and free admission! Staff is always friendly and there are a ton of events (free and $) that happen year round. Its a great way to get out of the city or just walk/bike to from the suburbs. The Japanese Gardens are my favorite, but they have indoor desert and tropical areas as well. I recommend the tram (~8 a person) to give your legs a break if you plan on walking the entire place. They have the butterfly house in the summer and Christmas lights in the winter, fyi!

Dan Ward

The Botanic garden, is a fun place to go to. It has beautiful gardens and landscape in the spring and summer. The winter does not have a whole lot outside, but, the stuff inside is still open. But, it is $20 to Park if you are not a member or going with a member.

Julia Towne

I was married here, very romantic location and can highly recommend the venue for events. Also it is an awesome place to spend a lazy summer afternoon.

Rosana Vemmer

Hot summer nights at the botanical gardens are so much fun. A live band plays every Thursday during the summer.

Donna Trussell

In September 2009 I attended a wedding here. This garden is gorgeous, and full of surprises at every turn. Both exciting and tranquil, it's everything a garden should be.

Paul Kim

Simply amazing. This must be on top of every Chicago visitors’ to-do list.

ישי צייטקין

OMG!! This place has so many beautiful flowers and trees. I really enjoyed going there, just hanging out with my family, seeing all the great and spectacular gardens that are there. There are many awesome things to see. Looking forward to come to this place again.

Abduljalil ALRUMAIH

Great place to spend time in weekday, but the ticket price is too much expensive for college student

Stuart PIles

I have been to many botanic gardens throughout the world. Tokyo, Paris, Brooklyn, Milwaukee, Saint Louis, etc. In terms of variety, over all land area, flowers, exhibits, walking trails and so on: this is the very best of them all.

GopalaKannan Rajavel

Very well maintained, and has large collections

Niclas Bork

Great place with lots of beautiful spots and amazing plants. Parking is quite expensive but the garden itself is free of Charge. Take your time and enjoy the beauty of nature

Mallika Palreddy

Had nice experience at botanical garden. Got a chance to see biggest flower (corpse flower)

Vince Hamilton

Absolutely stunning. Entry is free, but you pay for parking. Worth every penny. So much to look at. Plenty of benches to rest on throughout the park. Nice signage so you never feel lost. Musical entertainers, a small restaurant inside, with a beer garden outside. I also noticed there is a bicycle trail. If I had more time on this vacation, I would go again.

Don D

The gardens are one of the best places to spend the day and enjoy the seasons. The CBG are a incredible place to relax and have lunch. The gardens are a place to unwind and enjoy.

Hannah

I went for the orchid show which was really cool. Although it was the middle of winter the outside was still really beautiful and tranquil. A great place to get away for a few hours and take on nature. The cafe inside is also very tasty, offering both brunch and lunch as well as a Starbucks.

Anna Clement

Wasted time and money for a taxi to get to the garden and back. It is too far away from the centre of the city and I could not see anything interesting there at all. The Kew Royal Botanic Garden London is a thousand times better than this one. Extremely disappointed. Should not be called a "botanic garden ". Go to the Lincoln Park Conservatory instead - it is much closer, it is free and it is simply amazing - thousands of beautiful plants from all over the world plus it is located by the Lincoln zoo which is also free and interesting.

Kevin

So much to see. Disappointed to see algae and other unwanted plants growing in the ponds. The beds are wonderful. Englished walked garden is my favorite.

Bill McClain

Only had two hours there. Truly a lovely experience. We will surely be back our next trip to Chicago!

The Japanese garden was the highlight for me. Always clean. Can get slippery during the rainy season. Wear good shoes to walk around. There are some benches to enjoy the serenity. Good variety of plants. Paid for year membership which was worth it. Parking was easy. There are some events at night where they close that part of the garden. Great for photography. Just a long drive from downtown Chicago

There was a kite show when we visited and had a great time watching professionals fly kites and even flew kites ourselves! Even otherwise, there's tons of stuff to see and enjoy, like the beautifully manicured gardens and the amazing bonsai collection.

John Bamberg

We really enjoy this place. There are a lot of things that you can do in Chicagoland, but if you enjoy gardening, plants, flowers and Landscape Design. This is a wonderful place. They also have a lot of interesting educational things, classes, Library, and other similar attractions. They have an excellent dining area, with very helpful and friendly staff. A great place for kids.

Grant Ericksen

Visited in the Fall and Winter. Can't wait to see the Spring bloom. Always seemed to be parking, but you may have to go to one of the lots further away. Can get a bit crowded centered the visiting center, but never felt overly pressed by other visitors while viewing the outside gardens. Greenhouses were usually busy. My personal favorite was the Japanese and English areas outside.

M Hirose

Beautiful, and wonderful year round gardens and greenhouses.

Christopher Bergmann

Awesome place must see

Thommy Panic

This is our family's all time favorite place year round.

Cherie Paolucci

Our kids loved their time in Nature Preschool! They are finishing their second year and we have watched them grow, not only in their standard learning, but their self-confidence as well! They have such an amazing appreciation for nature and absolutely adore their teachers.

Ewa Kustra

This is an incredible place for wildnature's lovers . A big selection of flowers, trees and others plants. I liked Japanese Garden with gingko and the waterfall.

Dustin Herlich

I can't say enough about this place. I love it year round. I'm a proud member and a huge fan. I love the orchid show! The cafe is surprisingly good, especially when they use greens grown at the garden. It is not cheap, it's honestly probably a little too expensive for "parking" but I go so often I get the membership and it's worth it.

Kateryna Kamaieva

So beautiful place

Absolute must see for nature lovers! Just a wonderful place to get away from it all and find some peace and harmony. You can easily spend all day here! Beautifully kept grounds with many different styles of gardens. My favorites were the Japanese garden, the English gardens, and the fruit and vegetable gardens. Great place for photography. Saw a couple doing engagement photos while we were here and numerous photographers practicing their craft. I’m no photographer, but something about this place brought out my inner creativity. All my pictures are taken by iPhone X. Entrance is free, but parking is $25 per car.

Md Toufikul Islam

It was a great experience visiting there. My family loved the place. We took wonderful photos with flowers. A well decorated place with nice stuffs.

Chuck Johnson

A true gem. We stumbled across this attraction without any pre-planning. I loved the fact that it is open extended hours in the summer (all the way to 9pm!) The map is a bit overwhelming if you’ve never been, however we just thought, go ahead! We walked and explored around every corner. There are surprises everywhere. We could have spent a lot more time. And the price is right, free (well, paying to park isn’t free, but $25 per car is extremely affordable).

Biju P

It is a wonderful place. They have beautiful gardens. A great treat for your mind and eyes. Definitely worth the membership if you live around here. Can’t wait to see the spring bloom. We love the holiday lights there. It’s a nice place to visit year around.

Kartheek Alladi

This place is a nature lovers heaven. There are lot of different sections and the garden is pretty huge. Lots of varieties of flowers and plants that will inspire you. Though the entry is free, Parking fee is steep.

Carlyn Carlos

I really enjoyed my time here at the garden. In fact, it was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to. However, my experience was soured by our rude tram driver Kathy. Yes, she was knowledgeable about the information throughout the tour but prior to the tour even starting she rudely told us “Cut out the chit chat so people can concentrate on the tour” The tour hadn’t even started it was quite literally 12:55 and the tour was at 1:00 PM. We quickly brushed it off but halfway through her explaining the safety instructions (which we stopped talking for) she yelled at us once again. I never get to see my grandparents as is so this was something fun we finally got to do together and the experience was all ruined before the tour even started. Please visit this place it’s so beautiful just make sure you don’t get on the tram with KATHY.

Oleksii Naumov

Amazing garden, looks good, nature aromate is wonderful.

Gigi Munguia

Beautiful and peaceful. Not too crowded for a Labor Day weekend.

Iris C Alvarenga

Wonderful place to enjoy a beautiful family time. My children love to go here , play and run..so much to see.

Greg Benoit

Wow... just wow... First of all, this place is HUGE! Much bigger than I realized. You could easily spend nearly a whole day roaming around here. Second, it's absolutely gorgeous! Some of the views are just breathtaking. I loved the variety of flora from one garden to the next. And I even got to see some amazing fish and even a beaver swimming nearby. This place is seriously world class. I've been to Versailles and the Tuileries Garden in Paris. This place rivals those as far as I'm concerned. So happy that this is nearby.

Taylor Wilcox

Can be crowded, but that's just because it's so great. I love that this place exists. It's gorgeous and restful. Bring your own food though, because the prices are craaaazy.

Dorothy Desouzaguedes

Orchid Show (March): Worth the trek north out of Chicago (213 bus from Howard will take you there). Wide variety of gorgeous orchids. I'll be back in warmer weather to walk the grounds.

Tyrell Shoemaker

Such a treasure for Chicago. You can feel like you are away from the city and get lost for hours admiring the beauty of nature! Just pay for parking and you are good to go!

M Zim

The Chicago Botanical Gardens is wonderful beyond expectations. Currently there is a 6 week orchid flower show, and as you can tell from my uploaded pics the lakes are frozen. This is a year round treat. Don't forget to pick up your tulip and other bulbs in early spring, they are wonderful in this regions soil. They have music venues, movies, and so many sections of the garden you'll be excited to return many times. It's free (other than special shows), and paid parking by the car, so pack in your friends. Don't forget to see the walled in English garden. Which is free for members (lowest i saw was a $99 membership and a $135 family one).

Alex Kolenda

Wonderful and peaceful experience. They have various plants and trees from different locations around the US and the world. Many cool water features and sculptures to check out. If you enjoy looking at and learning about different plants this is the place to go forsure

Sadaf Khan

Beautiful place to hang out with family and friends or for picnics just awesome experience with family....

Malik Medina

Amazing place! Bigger than I thought!

Ashley Castro

Went to the Orchid Show 2019. Absolute beautiful. This is my second time going. They have about 3 exhibits and then vendors in the atrium. Pricey gift shop, but they have a lot of nice things and some sale items. I bought the ticket online for 2 people with parking included at $35. I would recommend going during a weekday to avoid the large crowd and tight walking spaces inside the exhibit.

Aleksandra Zubek

Paid for parking in advance, showed up at a reasonable time and all the lots were closed, not a single person was able to tell us where there was parking nearby or how to go about leaving our car somewhere and getting to the garden. The signs caused traffic more than anything else. I want my money back and I wish I hadn’t wasted 2.5 hours of my life getting here and driving around in circles trying to figure out what to do. Seems like no one directing traffic or anyone staffed by the gardens had a clue on what to do during a very busy Sunday.... what a shame Chicago

Mohamed Eldaw

A must visit place if you're in Chicago, staff is nice too

Steven Du

Wow this place is really big. There are a lot of plants and water features around. They have a large amount of diversity when it comes to different plants from around the US and the World. I could definitely spend several days here every season looking around. Also kind of easy to get lost in, but I think that's a nice feature of the garden. Also the staff are very knowledgable and nice people. It's never been super crowded when I've been there, but I've only been late afternoon/before sunset. The sunsets are nice to watch on the lakes around the garden.

S I Hussain

Beautifully maintained, scenery view, well maintained, This beautiful park contains a formal rose garden, a woodland garden, a Japanese inspired garden, and a brook garden. A whimsical railroad garden runs through a miniature town. A path leads visitors around serene Swan Lake over a charming bridge that would be at home in Monet’s garden. The beautiful gazebo is the perfect place to sit for a spell and watch the wildlife like the kingfishers and blue herons that call the pond home. Bluebird boxes dot the space and provide nesting opportunity. best park in Chicago.

Chris Fuerth

Well worth a day. I've been to a number of Botanical gardens and they all pale in comparison.

Андрей K

The Botanical Garden in Chicago is a great place to visit. The garden is very well taken care off with lots to see and many paths to stroll. Multiple gardens have a place to sit down, relax, and take in the surroundings. There are lots of flowers and a huge variety of other plants. Multiple picturesque spots to capture on camera as well. Definitely worth a visit.

Paper Mario Yoshi

The Birthday Cake Truffle was good but it made me feel weird when i ate the rest.

Mark Britt

I have been coming here for twenty years. The grounds continue to amaze me. Lovely English garden, rose garden. My favorite us the water garden. The sensory garden is lovely. Just spent a lovely afternoon in the beer garden writing, reading and drinking craft beers. The Dahlia show just opened.

Keshava Mysore

have been passing this botanical garden many times past few years and never got a chance to go in. finally went in, you need a full day to go though it. just saw a part of it. a wonderful place to be and also learn a lot about plants and trees. hopefully will go back sometime soon. also a great for photography.

Joshita Arora Dhawan

It is a wonderful place. I love going all year around. They have beautiful gardens with beautiful plants, trees and flowers. A great treat for your mind and eyes. Definitely worth the membership. Can’t wait to see the spring bloom. Depending upon the season they have different shows and festivals. A place for all ages. Best place for photography.

Andrew Given

I can't say more unbelievably wonderful things about the Botanic Gardens Preschool. My daughter is finishing her second year and she has grown so much. The teachers and staff are simply awesome. Class was planned so thoughtfully from day to day and the kids spent everyday outside in nature.

Abdullah AlBiladi

Really beautiful place. Amazing to see and have an idea of huge number of plants of various kids surrounded by water. Family friendly and there are many activities for kids. The eating area is well maintained and have limited, yet good food selection. So packing your lunch might be a good idea. No entry fees but you will be paying $30 for parking, in case coming via your car. It is a big place so be prepared for long walks.

Man

This place is huge and wonderful. If you like art and nature combined together this place is definitely for you. Gardens are beautiful. They have huge parking lot, caffee, garden shop, front desk, nice clean bathrooms around. Staff very friendly and helpful. Crowded on weekends. There is no words to describe this place. You have to go there and see it by yourself. You can take awesome pictures there.

Barbara Swanson

During the past summers, I couldn’t find an evening when there wasn’t a band playing—once it was a “punk band for kids”. Needless to say, the noise intruded wherever I went. The alternative is to go on the weekends when there aren’t the incessant concerts, but then you fight the terrible crowds (try finding an available bathroom!) The administration is unsympathetic and smug: self-satisfied with their building projects, parties, activities, and events. Don’t get me wrong, I approve of education programs for the ecological sciences. But cut back the social activities by fifty percent now. And then there’s the selling out of the gardens for private events such as weddings. Cut them by fifty percent as well. The problem is that members and visitors have no input or agency in the decision making. I was a member for years but let my membership expire this year. Obviously, I wasn’t important to the organization. Perhaps if I appreciated punk music for kids, wanted to rent a garden for a wedding, or didn’t need a bathroom, I’d be appreciated and satisfied. It’s a country club, not a botanic garden like you find in other cities such as Los Angeles

Krystal Portillo

Really nice! great place to take pictures, its alot of walking but there are tour tickets you can buy and the take you in little cars

Brad Beggs

Unbelievably great gardens. Entry is free but parking is $25 during the week and $30 on weekends. Nearby hotels provide free shuttle service. Plan to spend at least two or three hours; after that you'll be burnt out on natural beauty.

Matt Vagnoni

Beautiful place, too bad they do such a poor job telling you that half the place is closed down for "Private Events." Online they said the kids area was open, but when we got here they said it was closed for "private events." So we motivated our children to go to the large rose garden where the kids could run around. That was closed too. Then we tried to go to the fun looking English Garden. That was closed too. Worse, they blocked off areas of the walkway, so we had to walk the long way around to get to the English Garden only to find it was closed.

Suzanne Suss

The best early education I've ever encountered. Super passionate and enthusiastic teachers, a fabulous director, and more activities in a morning than I manage to do in a day. Loved every minute of my child's class, and loved being able to visit the gardens every week. Worth the drive!

Quirine van Oldenborgh Dahlquist

Model train garden is excellent for younger kids!

Angela Smith

It is an admirable place, with powerful vibes infiltrating to the inside of every human being, that I know of visiting there. The vegetation, birds, sun hugging everything and everybody, friendly stuff everywhere, smiling people all around, all of that makes us coming back. Lucky me, I live only thirty minutes away. We bring easily around fifty pictures from each visit. I suggest taking an actual camera not a cell phone, it's worth carrying an extra weight. Do not forget to inspect the garden treasure shop and cafeteria, and do not forget to relax.

Jerry Hambley

Just a WOW experience. After visiting, we decided to purchase a family membership and I signed up for two of their certification classes. (Botany 1 & Conifers and Evergreens). It's huge so we didn't get to see the whole garden but that just means we have more to discover on our next visit. The Bonsai display was awesome. The Cafe food and views were great as well.

Heather Dembkowski

Just gorgeous. Very serene and a true escape. Friendly and helpful staff that really loves what they do. Took my boys to the train exhibit and they loved it! They do a little bingo game with it that my 4 year old loved. I can't wait to go again!

Kim Bayma

Beautiful place to visit. Highly recommend anytime of year.

Charmaine Lambaren

Beautiful just a calming place with so much to see.

Susan Parker

The food is terrible!!!!!!!!! Consider picking your own lunch when going in there!!the sandwich was soggy and gross wrapped up in a plastic, the soup was mushy and gross as well!!! The entire outdoor experience was excellent!!! Wish I could give it a 3 star separately from restaurant experience!!! Other than that, They needs improvement!!!!!!

Susana Fonseca

I love coming to visit the botanical garden in Chicago because I feel that it brings me peace and I become more in tune with my self. Scenery is so beautiful I never want to leave. Each experience has been so beautiful and promising
