We asked Kathryn to help us after purchasing a 60 year old home that needed some love and attention. She helped us choose paint colors, gorgeous fabrics that really set the tone for the whole house. She knew what we would like better than we did! She brought in other artisans to do things we needed done such as faux painting a bath, having a wonderful slipcover made, recovering furniture, making beautiful pillows. She also chose pieces of furniture that we have been very happy with all these years later...twenty seven years later to be exact. Very few of the fabrics have had to be replaced, color and body as vibrant and full as ever. She gave the house the attention, and we have given it the love. We give her an A+

No job too small! Kathryn Long assisted me with basic projects as I moved into my new-to-me home. My home did not need a complete remodel. Before I moved in, she consulted on site about furniture placement and paint color selection for each room. Her expertise in both areas helped make these decisions quick and easy. Her suggestions about paint were exactly right! After my move in, she worked with me to refine furniture placement, providing many ideas about one difficult room. She also provided useful referrals for a variety of local resources. These few hours of her time were immensely helpful!

Kathryn Long gave me the best advice about backsplashes: my kitchen and butlers pantry had unusual architectural elements and Kathryn’s sense of space and aesthetics were key to getting the look and function I needed. Best of all, her recommendation for the tile installer was spot on. A lesser crew would never have been able to install the beautiful travertine tiles I selected that required so much custom cutting and fitting to achieve the completed, professional design.

When we contracted with Ambiance Interiors for a complete remodeling of our Villa at Cummings Cove in Hendersonville, NC. we had general ideas of what we wanted but did not have the vision to see them. Kathryn Long has such a vision which started with a dramatic but not structurally significant architectural change. From there she worked seamlessly with our general contractor and numerous subcontractors and material men. It goes without saying that no serious project ever proceeds without its bumps. We had them and Kathryn was always the voice of reason such that to this day I would recommend every one of the people who worked on the project. The result is that now, years later, we remain as pleased as ever with the comfort and beauty created by Ambiance Interiors. A benefit, but not a necessary one, has been the compliments we have received on the project and the fact that although it was a small project it was written up in the Asheville Citizen’s Times (see photo). Additionally over the years as we have needed updates or wanted improvements Ambiance Interiors has continued to be at our side, ready to help and more importantly to advise.

Katheryn was contacted as we were building our home several years ago. She helped make several important changes with the architect’s plans for the kitchen. Katheryn helped us pick out amazing chandeliers and wonderful fabrics for the curtains. It was a pleasant experience working with her.

My home was a new construction. Kathryn was on board from day one working with the architect to develop the plans. She recognized deficiencies in the architect's plans which were easily corrected during the design process. Her job is to know what my tastes are and make choices to reflect that. There are hundreds of choices. How they all come together in the end is a mystery to me. For Kathryn it is no mystery. It is experience in knowing what colors, fabrics, and materials work together to complement one another.It was a very enjoyable experience. All I had to do was convey what I wanted then set back, relax, and trust in her experience. Thank-you Kathryn. You did an amazing job and the end result is fabulous.

Our kitchen has been well used and well loved for 37 years. But the Formica countertops needed to go. We’ve loved our hand built cabinets but they were becoming dated. What we didn’t want to change were the Italian backsplash tiles that we found on a warehouse floor in the Riverarts district in the late seventies. In fact the thought of damaging those tiles has kept us from making any substantive changes to the kitchen. Kathryn Long to the rescue!! We’ve been working with Kathryn since we built our house in 1979. In the early days we used Kathryn to select paint colors (she has the absolute best sense and knowledge of color) wallpaper, and draperies for our living and dining rooms and foyer. Those rooms are still favorites and Kathryn’s suggestions have stood the test of time. Since then Kathryn has helped us renovate and redecorate all bathrooms and bedrooms as well as a major addition to our family room. We love working with Kathryn because she’s a great listener and always respects and incorporates our ideas and suggestions, and takes them to the next level. But back to the kitchen. Kathryn understood the importance of protecting our beautiful backsplash tiles and helped us design our new kitchen around them. Because we were starting with very solid hardwood cabinets, Kathryn felt we could keep the boxes and add newly designed doors. She recommended a superb cabinet maker with great attention to detail who created and crafted a design we couldn't be more pleased with. To provide more light in the kitchen we changed the cabinets from cherry wood to a painted finish -- a huge and uncertain move for us. Kathryn selected the paint color that PERFECTLY compliments the tile. Kathryn also worked with the cabinet maker to redesign and update several small spaces to become much more efficient, useful and attractive. Removing the ancient formica that butted the tile was the most delicate part of the renovation. Again Kathryn had the solution -- recommending a contractor who personally slowly cut the old countertops away. We weren't sure we needed a contractor for this small project but oh, were we wrong! The contractor, again with excellent attention to detail and who worked closely with Kathryn, was the glue for the whole renovation. Kathryn accompanied us to select the most beautiful leathered granite countertops and the perfect knobs for our cabinets. And without cutting into the ceiling, she guided us in the selection of new and updated lighting. We really love our new kitchen -- even more than we thought we might. And not one tile was chipped!! But the most amazing part of the story is that thanks to great planning with Kathryn, our cabinet maker and contractor, the entire transformation happened in one month while we were out of town! Thank you Kathryn!!

Kathryn has been open to all possibilities in design decisions, whether brought to her by the client or by people like me who help create the finishes for her projects. Ideas are always open to various interpretations, but samples show you exactly what to expect and that is what her clients can expect in every step of the design project. While there is lots of conversation about the possibilities, in the end it is showing what those possibilities will look like that helps make those decisions. We came to Ambiance Interiors with a large project to design the complete interior of a historic home built in 1895, making it brighter, more colorful, and more comfortable for a family with a two girls. Over many months, Kathryn and Tessa guided us through the complex process of creating design plans for each room in the house, being careful to listen to our preferences while presenting fun ideas and options for each decision along the way. From carpets, to window treatments, of course furniture and fabric selections, wall colors and lighting, everything came together beautifully. It was very reassuring to have such expert advice, careful organization, and every detail handled professionally during this project. 5-stars all the way, because we couldn't be more pleased!
