Worst experience of my life. I was in the psych ward for PTSD and psychosis. Completely unaware of my actions and statements for probably a month at least. I read over my medical records from there and I saw I became worse shortly after being there. My records show I became more agitated and aggressive before I eventually recovered enough to be released. I was clearly pyscotic and anyone who thinks otherwise can read through my 500 plus pages of medical records/notes. The nurses and one of my psychiatrists had the audacity to say I had intentions to hurt staff and that my behavior wasnt due to my mental illnesses. My therapist outside of Tomah even said that they mis diagnosed me with bi polar instead of PTSD. So they were most likely treating me with the wrong medications on top of everything else. I am now being pressed with charges a year and a half later for things I had no intention or control over. I wasnt even aware I hurt anyone until I received summons a year and a half later. The staff needs more training and better treatment plans for people in similar situations. For staff to say someone intentionally did something when they were clearly psychotic is alarming to me. I think 403a needs to be investigated more closely and could use better training and strategies for people with similar mental illness. While I was In treatment The staff called my mom and told her I might need a caregiver the rest of my life and still claimed in statements to the tomah va police that all of this was not due to my mental illness. It makes no sense. So be cautious of the tomah va because you end up going there for help and end up with felony charges a year and a half later.

I have been going to this VA for more than 10 years, always had great health care. The staff treat you as a family rather than just a number.. In my experience.

The times you are "open" are WRONG!!!!! I called for help for my son at 4:29 by the time it rang I was told that it was AFTER BUSINESS hours! WTH WHY does it say 5:30 on your site then????? PLUS, ........................ Oh I am too angry to put more down.

When dealing with the VA, it becomes a full time job getting health care. They should be ashamed for their lack of motivation and their inability to fix a broken system. In order to get medical care you will need to live long enough to hear back from them. You are nothing but a number to them, not a human. Its a very sad time to be reliant on VA Healthcare.

I have received services from the Tomah VA for approximately five years, and every experience I have had has been extremely positive. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. I want to thank the facility leadership and staff for the great service they provide to Veterans.

I received medical treatment on the 5th of July and they gave me excellent care. I have shingles all over my face and just below my right eye. The doctor told me if it got worse under my eye that I needed to be seen immediately. I guess immediately means when the are available since they don’t have an er. I talked to a nurse over the phone after hours about my concern so I don’t lose my eyesight. Yes I was not the nicest person to deal with due to that I am worried about losing my eyesight ok my bad. She didn’t appreciate my attitude nor did I appreciate hers. She said she was here to help and I needed to drop the attitude. I won’t apologize for you getting paided to deal with ptsd vets that are in pain suffering and are worried about losing my vision it seems you may need additional training on how to effectively handle people like me. I was directed to emergency services that would not cover me medical. Thanks for the info I’m glad I am responsible for paying for life limb and eyesight situations that that don’t fit in with the VA’s hours of normal operation.

I have going to the Tomah, WI VA since 2/14/96 & nothing but problems. All they want to do is screw with Veterans, screw them up on prescription drugs to get them thrown in jail to screw them over in court! I was hit in the right temple with a pickup door in October 2017 & ended up with a huge floater in my right eye & nothing has been done about it. It can be fixed with laser right in the office, but the Tomah VA refuses to do anything & nothing but a big jerk-around & transferred or referrals to a Psychiatrist! The staff here definitely have a bucketful of screws loose & need Psychiatric examination, too! Complain to the Patient Reps 10 times a day & all they do is chit-chat! I have left numerous messages with State Rep, Ron Kinds office in Eau Claire for a year & still no response. The Tomah VA Director was fired several years ago for over-medication practices. in other words, drugging them up! Some even died & a few while inpatient! I definitely believe everyone that works at the Tomah VA needs Psychiatric examination & court ordered treatment! Or be fired!

They do a great job putting veterans first!

We have had our Dad and also a church friend who is a vet at Tomah VA. The care they both received has been excellent. The nursing staff as been so attentive to their needs and the physicians assistants as well as the doctors have been first class. The social worker has been involved and also very helpful. We could not have been more pleased with the care they both received.

I called the Tomah VA at 12:30 in the morning and I got help. I was a patient in Tomah for nearly two months. I do not hold true to the complaining. I walked her halls and experienced nothing but professional personal and very helpful staff and patients. The complainers should try other healthcare centers and leave Tomah to us Veterans that feel privileged to have good care when we need it. Don't tell me the meals suck either. I found one menu item not to my liking, the rest was good food.

The Tomah VA is a great place for Vets. They really care about the Vets. In 2010 they saved my life. I am totally greatful.

They always treat my father well - they reach out to me with concerns when needed. He has 40 years of experience with them.

The Tomah VA certainly DOES NOT "Define Excellence". Not by a long shot.!! It is supposed to be a "Flagship" campus. Maybe the Flagship Titanic! There are a few very fine people there but not enough that follow through what they say and clearly follow through, for me, has been lacking. This hema-Toma(h) VA definitely needs some healing!! Even the Patient Advocate that I worked with was lacking!! If your needs are not being met reach out to your senator, the Inspector General and whoever else that will hear and help you. YOUR ARE WORTH IT VETERAN! NEVER EVER FORGET THAT!!!

Jerry Dahlback

They treat me like gold. Very thankful !

I've been to the psych ward quite a few times. They have always treated me with dignity and respect. Food is okay but they make up for it in snacks. They really care about you here.

Sometimes the wait is longer than expected

Police here have nothing better to do than walk around and check alarms and give Veterans tickets for minor infractions.

Evil Dude

awesome pharmacy staff, went above and beyond for me

Nick Rhea

Lots of good people that really care about the veterans here. Always a couple bad apples to give it a bad rap but it's a clean facility with a lot to do.
