Went into emergency room offered my insurance info was told they can't take it until I'm treated which was fine, when I was ready to leave gave the girl at the desk my insurance card, then a few weeks later get a paper in the mail stating that I need to mail them my insurance info so I drive to Rhinelander go to the hospital and give them my card again she takes down all info and makes another copy ,called two weeks later because my insurance showed they received nothing yet and I yet again have to give my insurance info and now I sit and wonder if they got it sent to insurance this time...

tried to kill me, came in with pneumonia and I have diabetes was given steroids witch caused blood sugar to spike. was also given wrong antibiotic not ordered by doctor and it was mixed with dextrose, all along my blood sugar kept rising. was given insulin and it did not help. hospital would not give me several of my prescribed medications. 2nd floor is full of locals who talk very loudly about all of the patients and share information with former employees, that appeared to be there for some kind of party. and while they were standing outside my room was making cements about me to my nurse. when I got out of bed and looked to see who was out there talking about me. the nurse came in and said that they were not saying any thing about me, that I was imaging it and tried to get me to take a sedative for anxiety. just plain straight out liars! and right after that incident all 3 nurses at the desk were banging away at there keyboards to cover up there lies. after the next shift started and it was just more of the same incompetence giving my the same azithromycin mixed with dextrose and my blood sugar was getting close to 500 and my blood oxygen was under 80 with oxygen on. they still would not give me my prescribed medication that I have insurance to pay for it. I do not know who makes the decision, but it was defiantly wrong. after being there for several days and just getting worse and also not managing my diabetes. I signed my self out and filled the recommended antibiotic for pneumonia with pleurisy ,levofloxacin. I got my blood sugar down to normal and started feeling better by the next day. I will never go back, There is quite a bit more to say. but this is enough for now.

They almost killed my wife. They saw a mass on her spleen then never followed up. A scan 5 1/2 months later showed it was cancer.

Yesterday (2/28/18) at about 12:30 my boyfriend and I came to the E.R./Clinic. My boyfriend was having extereme pain in his back from injuries sustained as a Marine overseas in Iraq. I pull up right to the front enterance of the E.R. and proceed to try and get my boyfriend out of the vehicle. It took me about 5 minutes to get him out and get him balanced on me so I could walk him in. In that time no one came out to help even though there was three women behind the front desk and another male nurse or doctor standing next to the desk. I get him inside and take all of his weight off of me and onto the front desk. The male standing next to the desk walks away and the three females behind the desk carry out their conversation while my boyfriend and I stand there (the big burly marine man as I describe him, is in tears) and they continue on their conversation (not a dire or even work related conversation) for at least a minute. They then check us in with absolutely no urgency and have him take a seat. My boyfriend then lays on the floor because his back is in too much pain to sit in a chair. I ask for an ice pack for while we wait and am told that there will be one provided when we get called back. After waiting for 5 minutes I buy a bottle of water to put on his back to give him at least some comfort. After another 10 minutes a nurse finally sees what I’m doing and brings me an ice pack. After another 10 we are called back and taken care of. The nurse that called us back watched as I tried to peel my boyfriend off the floor. Just standing there. Not offering to help. Looking up at her I notice she has an inch between her pants and shirt that her stomach was showing. Her shirt was too short for her so she was basically wearing a belly shirt. When she bent over the desk to type stuff in her whole back was showing. I found it majorly inappropriate. All in all I am very disappointed with our visit to Ministry today. Sadly the V.A. couldn’t do much for us in my boyfriends predicament otherwise we’d never even have a reason to go to Ministry.

If I could give out negative stars this one would be negative 5. If you want to be misdiagnosed go here, To be honest I don't understand how a place like this can even be running and operated with all the lawsuits that they have had on them. I haven't heard or have I had a good experience with this place, granted hospitals are not suppose to be pleasant but you would expect treatment and professionalism from a place like this, Instead its full of a bunch of locals that have no idea what to do there and they treat people like there too good for anyone. I really urge people to go to the surrounding areas for treatment all Rhinelander will give you is a bunch of non educated guesses, while the surrounding areas will pin point what is wrong and they will try to treat it the best they can. For a few examples my father had a brain aneurism and they tried to treat him like he was just hung over even though we told them he hasn't drank in over a decade. Then they figure out he had bleeding in the brain and told us there was nothing they could do for him there because they didn't know why or how to treat it, he got flown to Wausau where they figured out it was an aneurism and they flew him to Madison because of specialist there, Which Madison was awesome for him. I also knew a guy that was having a minor heart attack who drove from Rhinelander to Minocqua just casue he had fear that Rhinelander would kill him because of the issue of misdiagnosing people. Point blank they have issues all over that place from the people that read x-rays, doctors, nurses, even the desk people with there big attitude issues, BEWARE DONT GO HERE!!!!

You would think "St. Mary's" stood for Christian beliefs. Sat with my wife after her surgery and listened to very open staff discussions believing we came from apes. If there is a next time we will consider other hospital options.

Luther Hoffmann

Service is horrible and billing is outrageous. Cost for procedure was 9 times that compared to hospital in Wausau and Green Bay. Will never go there again. Dishonest hospital and organization.

Love Hurts

I couldn’t have asked for more thorough and compassionate care. Our nurse, Darlene in the emergency room really attended to us and gave quality care and our doctor was so kind. Thank you for making our vacation fiasco into a better experience!

They final gave me iv fluid and something for nausea. When i was released blood sugar at 386 refused to give me insulin to bring it down. Which was what my dr saided i needed. This hospital is awful.

WORST HOSPITAL EVER!!!!! 3 months IN A ROW THEY MESSED UP MY PERSCRIPTION REFILLING!!!!! First month called 5 days early and wasnt ready when i arived. Waited 6 hours before i got call that day. Next month called 1 week and still nothing ready but this time they called and said it was!! 3rd month same thing. But this time i called 10 days early AND 5 days early to make sure! They even lost the perscription and it never reached the doctor! They also said i never called and would have to wait several days like everyone else. SO THEY CALLED ME A LIAR ON TOP OF IT!!!!! If it wasnt for them finding the notes from when i called they wouldnt have rushed my perscription that day!! I love being called a liar by the same people who cant do thier jobs after I called to remind them TWICE!!! Plus shoukd also mention a year ago i cut my finger and when i went in, some SLOB in THE ER came in eating a cupcake, looked at my finger, said 'dont see anything wrong' and let his NEW inter stitch me up..... Had he not been stuffing his face he would have realized he didnt even see the tendant in my finger cuz it was cut. Thanks to some LAZY, FAT, NIGHT ER DR.. I CANT BEND ONE OF MY FINGERS EVER AGAIN!!! This place needs to be SHUTDOWN!!!! DOES MORE HARM THEN GOOD!!! Now drive to Wausau instead and its WORTH the gas to know my problems are being solved right! Final score.. -5stars

They completely messed up on a procedure my father had. Not taking the right area for samples and misdiagnosed him. I can't express how upset I am with the care he received and if I could rate a zero I would! Now I have a ruptured disc and have been to the emergency Dept two days in a row and they have done absolutely nothing. This place shouldn't even be considered a hospital or clinic!

Brian Quade

There are a some good doctors and nurses at this facility. That being said, this place is an example of everything wrong with healthcare. Ascension will go out of their way to understaff every facility they put their name on. Wait months for appointments, hours to be seen, days or weeks to return phone calls, prescriptions don't get sent in, and other dangerous communication errors are made on a regular basis.

sam spohn

They don't care. untill it comes time to paying them do not go here rip off!!!!!

This hospital is a deathtrap, and they do not care about it. They just reply to these reviews with the same response, they want you to go on a website and “tell them about your experience” I will be reporting all the disgusting areas of this hospital , as well as your rude staff until the day I die to get this hospital shut down or to a standard that’s not incredibly gross!!

Unless I am bleeding out or I am going into cardiac arrest, I am never ever going to St. Mary’s ever again. Their behavioral health services are the only thing that is actually worthwhile at the hospital. St. Mary’s fails to recognize that there are LGBTQ+ folks in the community and treats those individuals like complete and utter s**t. I have been to St. Mary’s numerous times since the start of my transition and every time, I am disrespected and looked at like I am an alien. Yes, I understand that this is a Catholic hospital, but didn’t God say to “love one another?” There’s no love in the emergency department at this hospital. People wonder why folks who are in the LGBTQ+ community refuse to get help for problems. It’s because of individuals who work in emergency services. I recently stopped taking one of my medications and I was having bad withdrawal symptoms. Instead of treating me (which they finally did after a second visit), they treated me like I was a junkie. I don’t even do drugs. I take my prescriptions as needed. Even after the second visit, I was treated poorly and the doctor on duty acted like I was a huge inconvienience. I was given medications and sent home after 20 minutes. No monitoring. No compassion. Just in and out because apparently 3am isn’t the right time to be battling an anxiety attack that had been going on for two weeks. Do the community a favor: Put your beliefs aside for two seconds and actually have compassion for folks who are a part of the LGBTQ+ community. The only department that does accept folks are in behavioral health. Now I know why I switched to Aspirus.

Friendly knowledgeable people, urgent care. Smooth like clockwork, absolutely no issues.

An ambulance had to bring my sister into the ER on a late Saturday afternoon(6-9-18) after a “dock accident.” The ambulance staff was professional, friendly, and thorough(Steve and Rick). They didn’t minimize her back injury in any way. The ER staff was the same. Care was timely. Pain was controlled and tests were done for an accurate diagnosis. The diagnosis and the healing process was explained thoroughly and we were allowed to take pictures of her CT scan films on our phone. Thank you Bonnie(PA-C) and Jackie(RN) and Jeff(radiology) for your excellent care. Hopefully we won’t need you anytime soon but I wouldn’t hesitate to visit this facility again.

roland gerdes

I worked there for 3 months as a clinical laboratory scientist. I have worked in this field for 38 years. I have never been employed by a more incompetent facility in my life.. I have 4 college degrees and I have never seen a more incompetent crew. I think it is largely because of their age the oldest was 29 years old. No experience. No more need be said. Go to St. Mary's and I will pray for you.

Place I've always been and it's a very good place i highly recommend

Worst emergency room experience I’ve ever had. “Mary K “in the ER at one point told me she thought I was faking my injury. I was in a motorcycle Accident with mild paralysis couldn’t feel either of my hands and could barely walk and I was kicked out of the emergency room and forced to sit in the waiting room until I was able to get someone to come get me all the way from Milwaukee. I know in cases of emergency many people don’t check reviews but if you’re in the Northwoods and you have an emergency literally any other option of a hospital Would be better than this. do not come to the St. Mary’s ascension in Rhinelander.

We sat for an hour and a half and still were not seen. My 13 yr old son broke his foot in 2 places. The lady offered ice but never came back . Other people were complaining because they sat longer than me . The lady at the desk was very rude to everyone . She got even ruder when i told them i was leaving. That is wrong . we went to howard young 40 minutes away after waiting so long there. NOBODY should have to deal with that . i will not return there .i am moving all my medical care to Howard Young in minocqua. Once again NOBODY SHOULD BE TREATED THAT WAY. I also have to add that one lady at the desk was dressed as if she was going to a bar and when patients wernt up there they were laughing and having a great time while people sat in pain. One guy was still bleeding sitting next to us. What a joke .

Jessica Tatman

Worst experience ever!!! The emergency room nurse and doctor treated me like absolute garbage!

Absolutely a horrible experience! Had a ruff month with my health, The flu, And back pain. I was hoping that this hospital would at least act like professionals. Was not the case, I was honest with everything, And to share a example of how I was treated. My back was out. Going through a lot of pain at the time. They really didn't want to give me anything to help with the pain. After a hour or so, They said now that you have had some pain med's, It's time for you to go. That was fine with me, I felt a tad better but was still hurting to the slightest movements. I then asked if someone could help me put my socks on. The nurse said, Why do you need help putting your socks on. I said, My back! I mean really! They really should start giving aptitude tests before hiring at Saint Mary's Hospital.

I had a decent experience with my new GP. Dr. Havisto was friendly and seems to care about her patients. I had to have blood work, the first gal that tried to collect the sample had a hard time and ended up sticking me 3 times. She went for help and the second nurse was able to find a vein first try. I wasn't entirely impressed with the gal that was in check out. I feel if you're helping a patient you should be talking to them, and not other people about your work day. But all in all it was a good experience.

This review is not written by Luther Tonkin, but rather by his wife Robyn Tonkin. Our internet is shared by both of us, and his name usually appears. I have used this hospital three times, once for lab work for an eye infection our daughter had, and once for a minor eye injury her son experienced. I have also used the diagnostic department, as I had an MRI there. I have no complaints about his place. I found our daughter's lab work to have been professionally performed in a very timely fashion, as time was of the essence in order to insure preservation of her sight in one eye. I was very pleased with the young PA who examined our 3 year old grandson's eye for a potential corneal scratch (thank goodness there was none). This young woman examined his eye exhaustively, was very good with a restive youngster, and gave me a mild antiseptic salve for the eye. The waiting room was lovely--huge windows that let in the spring sunshine, comfortable furniture, and a small table and chairs and coloring books to keep Ted amused while he waited. My MRI was professionally performed by a well trained, professional young woman, and the waiting area and diagnostic area were very clean, and state of the art. This hospital throughout emphasizes its lovely location, with restful views out huge windows continually available. I kept on top of all of these bills, and we were correctly billed in a timely fashion, and while there were the inevitable followup calls to the billing dept., they were handled professionally without errors. I guess I have decided for our family what is possible and what is acceptable in health care today, and this hospital exceeded those standards. I am glad they are in Rhinelander.

My friend went for his RA meds. His BP was way to high with electronic BP cuff.. Instead of rechecking his BP with a manual cuff and contacting his primary Dr they didn't give him his meds and sent him home! He could have had a heart attack or stroke in the way home.. Makes me rethink ever using your services if ever in the area..

Matt Stotzheim

My child was transported here via ambulance due to an anaphylactic reaction. Crandon Area Fire Rescue put the iv in, administered the meds, and stabilized him. He was at St Marys for a couple hours, where their scope of care was monitor only. I received a prompt bill from the ambulance service, but nothing from St. Marys. Over a year later, we receive a collection notice in the mail. St. Marys never sent us a bill, nor did the bill our insurance. Just went straight to collections. I've called 4 times now to ask what's been done, and noone ever gets back to me. Meanwhile, our credit score is being affected and we keep getting collection notices. I don't know who is running their billing department, but this is a large oversight on their part.

My daughter was attending a church event and injured her thumb. They took her to this hospital to get an x-ray. Apparently the hospital does not share insurance information with their providers, so we were double billed. It does not seem like anyone wants to correct this issue, so be warned that you'll need to coordinate personally between the hospital, the doctor and your insurance. Bad job!

Wish I had read reviews before going in, I never would have went here. If you care at all about your health stay away from this place. I went in with a severely herniated disc in my back. after waiting in er for almost 2 hours, I was finally seen by a woman that kept asking me what I wanted them to do. I said the last time it was this bad they did an MRI and I was in surgery within 24 hours. She basically told me she cant just order an mri, and that I would have to be admitted first, she then asks me a couple questions and says I don't qualify to be admitted. At this point I could not even stand much less walk. She never even did any kind of exam or even touched me. Then sent me on my way, and acted like I should be thankful they even helped me to car. I have seem many diff doctors over the years for multiple med issues and never once treated the way I was there. Reading the reviews I see I'm defiantly not the only one this place has failed to help. 1.7 stars out of 47 reviews pretty much says it all.

Ask the locals lmao people go there they die

I have been waiting in The emergency room urgent care for over 8 hours without beeing seen. They kept puting people in front of me that weren't urgent.

Dolores Hansen

They don't allow the Doctors to do their job properly. Push you through fast as possible. The billing department has no clue how to bill primary and secondary insurance!!! If I could post zero stars I would have. I will drive to Minocqua and get quality care.

Denise Eveland

My mother went to the ER on a Saturday night. She is still in the hospital and will hopefully be released today. She has received excellent care from the ER to ICU, SCU, and now ACU. Doctors, surgeons, nurses, CNAs, kitchen staff, custodial staff, administration etc have all been amazing!!

Jacob Poulsen

The behavioral health unit was absolutely wonderful. They treated me with respect and care unlike anything I had expected. Very well trained staff and truly they helped me during a difficult time.

Shelly Vandervest

I made a call to the billing department around 11 am on Monday, June 18th and spoke with Latrice (sic.) After over an hour of being on the phone, Ascension St. Mary's finally admitted they sent a medical bill I was on a payment plan for to Amcol collection agency for no apparent reason. Not before I was told I probably missed a payment, was "misunderstanding," that I was probably wrong about who actually held my accounts, and was mistakenly transferred to the collection agency itself. I called back furious and was immediately transfered to Latrice, who had messed up the transer. I eventually received a full apology after being repeatedly put on hold and was assured I have no leg work to do on my end, and that I had done nothing wrong. But that's an hour and a half I'll never get back, along with a gallon of stress and my intelligence insulted to boot. I have been fortunate enough to have great care providers there, but the billing department is a nightmare. My husband and I have been double billed on Co-pays before, but we're able to clear them up quickly. This was completely uncalled for.
