Was told to use this VA when I was going to a different one in Virginia and they assigned two doctors one in Virginia and the one here when the one here I could have in Virginia instead. Too much to post as I had terrible treatment thus far from this VA hospital. Took more than a year to get physical therapy for one. The VA here not answering their calls. Got redirected to the VA in NEW YORK WHEN I'M CALLING THIS VA IN DC LAST YEAR IN 2017? Most recent, with new glasses I was prescribed, the employees at the optical center told me they would send it to me now I got a voicemail saying to pick it up? August 8, 2018, I got a voicemail FROM AN UNKNOWN CALLER ID TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT WHICH WAS FROM THIS VA. MUCH MORE TO ADD........

Excellent facility and services... some federal employees are rude and unprofessional. I have received excellent services especially from my knowledgeable and caring Primary Care Physician Dr. Edmonds in the Women’s Clinic. She is very responsive and explains everything. I love the myvet app. I can order refill medication communicate via email with my physicians. I am very appreciative of the staff at Patient Services it’s wonderful to get someone to answer the phone always. The Advocate Services and the Head Administration immediately deals with complaints and follow up with prompt resolutions. The system WORKS!! Of course some employees or Veterans can cause problems. I’m grateful for the services and benefits provided by the VAMC.

Do the processes seem long? Yes, can the pharmacy take hours? Yes. But the staff here is the most caring, and most down to earth staff ever. From the e.r. department to every single nurse and technician, and even my primary care physician Dr. Metzerott. The e.r. staff helped me with the short term solution to my back. I then was assigned Dr. Metzerott (hope I spelled it right) and he sat down with me and he saw that I'm a drinker, because of my pain (and other reasons), then he came down to my world and related to me via conversation and finally asked me if I wanted to solve my problems through pills and alcohol or of I would like to solve my problems from the outside in. I chose the second option and Metzerott prescribed me a back brace, a tens unit for back treatment, pain/inflammation relief, and a sleeping aid which has done wonders. Now my back went from painfully hurting constantly every day to just slight irritation sometimes as long as I use my tens unit and wear my back brace while working a few days out of the week.i really hope the staff sees this review because I would like to thank everyone I've ever come across in this facility. But the pharmacy does need to pull their heads out of their asses. When I get a prescription I check the front desk regularly after I submit my info because my scrip will be sitting on the shelf for hours and my name will never come up on the board. It never fails. I understand there r lots of ppl who need their drugs but, come on pharmacy, this is why y'all get paid the big bucks.

The building is extremely clean and well maintained! The staff is the best I've seen, not to mention most of the Washington DC VA medical staff are Veterans, so that makes a world of difference when it come to knowing how Vets are to be treated!

I don't want to take away from the VA hospital or staff. You guys do an amazing job. My concern is to treatment of other veterans by veterans. I believe that you are also responsible for those hanging out in the breeze. It is very concerning how vulgar male veterans are to their veteran sisters. Sexual trauma is real and those outside of the facility do not make it any easier for our sisters to get treatment. There should be stronger rules enforced about such actions, like grabbing, catcalling, or other lude or elicit behaviors. If it was not authorized or welcomed while you were active duty, why would it be okay because you are Veterans. If anything you should be the ones protecting them. Also, the answer to this solution is not sending them to another VA so women veterans feel comfortable, that is just wrong, by sending our women to another facility only empowers the jerks outside, and sends the message that you condone their outrageous behavior. The answer is to clean up the mess in front of your buildings.

my first time here was for my military checkout evaluation. My doctor told me my back and knee pain were due to just being old, I was 29 years old at the time, with 8 years active service. After this my wife got me put on her insurance to see a real doctor. He submitted to the VA a recommendation for an MRI on my back and knee. The results came back as me having a protruding disc in my back and multiple tears in my knee. Upon me seeing the VA doctor for the results, she stated, "I don't know why your doctor had you get the MRI done, even after seeing this, there is nothing I will do for it". The next issue I had was dealing with a sleep problem. A doctor gave me some type of sleep medication, which I had tried for several weeks with no success. I called in and told him, and he told me to just keep doubling the dosage if it doesn't work until it does. After a few more weeks I had to go in to set up a sleep study appointment. during the process the woman was talking to me about what my problem was, and decided that from my description that I DID INDEED have sleep apnea and ordered a special order mask for a machine which was for a problem I wasn't even diagnosed with. This then lead to the actual sleep study a week or two later. I arrived at 8:45pm for my scheduled 9pm - 5am appointment. I didn't get hooked up to the machines and the test started until around 11pm. During the study, there was constant noise in the hallway, from squeaky janitor carts, people talking and laughing, ordering pizzas, and the one time I started to doze off the computer in the room rebooted and lit the entire room in a bright blue and snapped me out of any chance of sleep. The person conducting the study came in at 3:30 am and told me that the study was complete. I didn't sleep at all. Within a week I received a letter stating that they found evidence of sleep apnea and I need to go in to get a CPAP machine! I am shocked by this evidence of a sleep condition found during a test in which I DID NOT SLEEP. When I went in to pick it up, the gentleman which runs the CPAP machine office was extremely rude, but that aside, the shear number of people waiting to get their brand new CPAP machines was insane. There were at least 15 people in the waiting area. I seriously think that someone in the department gets kick backs from the purchases of these $500+ machines, as well as the desk lady who ordered the special order masks without waiting for any diagnosis?? There has to be some kind of scam going on here. I have since avoided this dump like the plague and only use it for things which would still be rather expensive through civilian doctors, such as Xrays, etc.. update.... I was told to go into the emergency room by a nurse for a foot injury, thinking I broke or tore something in my foot. Upon entering, there is no instruction when you walk in. Just people that stare at a computer screen until you interrupt their doing nothing. Even though I was the only person in the waiting area, I still had to wait an hour and a half to get seen by the triage nurse. I then spent another 45 minutes waiting info the room to get vitals. I finally got my xray and was told to wait in the room again. this time they came back and then told me to washout a minute. 30 minutes later I stick my head out and asked what else they needed and found out that all I needed to do was sign a paper, but THEY FORGOT ABOUT ME. 4 hours later I was out with the regret of wasting another day in this hell hole.

The flagship of the VA system. Clean and organized with excellent staff. Despite the inherent problems with the VA system, the DC VA has made every effort to be an open, welcoming, clean and efficient place. The food options are sorely lacking but the lobby coffee shop is a nice addition. The front desk is particularly helpful, always cheerful and ready to answer any question!
