I brought my family member here from the order of the Patient First doctor in Richmond Va on September 28, 2019. Dr. Trent (In the ER) was great! She was attentive and skilled at the procedure she did on my relative. She gave us a referal to see Dr. Adesso . The nurse (I believe her name was Nancy) was also a gem. They were caring and compassionate. I wouldn't hesitate to go there again. Kudos for what you do for others!

I've only been through the Emergency room and I love that they don't triage. The only ER I've ever heard of that takes you right to a room and the nurse is right in. This is my favorite hospital with my favorite staff. I have moved a few times over many years but I will drive from anywhere to go here. I feel safe and I know I'm in good hands. Dr. J Trent is one of my favorites there.

Courtney, the Case Manager and Taylor, the Social Worker are absolutely amazing at their job. If you’re looking for a Case Manager or a Social Worker while on the mental health level of the hospital I recommend the two of them.

I went to the Retreat Doctor's Hospital ER in the early morning hours of July 2nd with severe dizziness, nausea, and vomiting. There was no one in the ER so I rang the bell repeatedly. Still no one. I went back out to the front desk and notified them that there was no one in the ER. He told me to go back and someone would be with me soon. I returned to the ER. No one appeared. I rang the bell again. No one appeared. After 30 minutes I left. My only regret is that I wasn't able to produce more vomit on the walkway.

Nurses and some doctors are very rude unprofessional and discharged me still vomiting blood. Treated me horrible whole time I find out 3 weeks later I had a hiatal hernia. They left me in pain and discomfort, treated me poorly and the whole time something was really wrong!

Not such a good stay. Huge spider webs in both windows. Sour milk ( out of date). Took them hours to attend to my diabetes. Sugar went over the top. Took over 6 hours to get plain Tylenol. Five RN s realized there wasn't alcohol in dispenser. Decided 3 am was a good time to replace batteries and put alcohol in the dispenser. And still did not work. Flushed the toilet and water came out of the pipes in back. No one looked at surgery site till next day 7 am RN, who by the way was awesome, thanks Mathew! Diabetes, heart rate and blood pressure stayed out of control the 24 hours I was there. A head nurse did come in listen to all the craziness, some I had not touched on here. Getting ready for surgery, they were all great. Don't get put on fifth floor!! Awful experience that I probably will be paying for, for a long time.

Better accommodations for diabetic patients would have made my visit most helpful. After fasting four hour hours, I should have received immediate care, namely MRI. Instead I had to wait behind five or si other patients who needed MRI. After the MRI, I nearly had a diabetic seizure, if not for the kind Tech supporting me with several rounds of orange juice, crackers, and peanut butter to raise my blood sugar level. It was a miserable experience that could have been avoided. The Tech told me she had an earlier opening that I could have utilized. No one alerted her to my needs or condition, Low blood sugar during morning hours. I indicated this condition to Johnston Willis personnel and when I signed in to Retreat. I hope never to repeat this experience ever again.

I have to say that this hospital is one of the best that I have experienced. I suffer from a nerve condition that can cause me VERY severe pain in my legs. One day over a holiday when my normal doctor was not available, I was having a severe flair-up (One that my normal daily medication would not handle), and I went to the ER in Severe Pain. I saw Dr. Franklin Ewing, and he is a great doctor. I took my medical records with me, and he took the time to look through them, and he was able to treat me and get me out of pain. On yet another visit, I had a .07mm Kidney Stone that was causing me a lot of problems. Once again, I saw Dr. Ewing. First, he made sure that I was made comfortable and out of pain. Then, He contacted a Urologist, and within 4 hours, I had surgery at Retreat Doctors Hospital to get a stent put in. Along with Dr. Ewing, the nurses were top notch! I hope to NEVER have to go to a Emergency Room again, but if I do, I hope it is like Retreat Doctors Hospital!

Had a few surgeries here, and then had a few at a different hospital, and let me tell you, the difference was night and day. The staff here are so friendly and down to earth. During my prep, they took the time to make sure I was comfortable and really paid attention to how I was doing. Some hospitals, you feel like a number, here you feel like you are around family. And their ER is very quick as well.

IveI always went to this hospital for my ER needs, great speedy service, and staff but today was the worst. I'm in a lot of pain! I explained to the P.A what i wanted and needed, he refused, i had to pratically beg him for a note to be out of work, while he's standing there smiling in my face!!! I can't walk, and my job requires walking, and standing!! I'm VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE TREATMENT I RECEIVED FROM THAT PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT NAME MICHAEL!!! I had a abstest and they claimed to open and drain. Instead they cut the wrong area and discharged me with no pain meds or anything. Then a day latery abstest gotten infected. It could've gotten into my bloodstream and I could've died. Thank God I went to a "REAL" hospital to get the help I needed. Luckily I didn't get killed with the doctors malpractice.

Folks at front desk/registration could not be nicer. Pre-op physical nurses very good. Lots and lots of questions but better than something being missed and causing a problem. My wife had to have surgery this past April and it was recommended that she see Dr. Gentry. Dr. Gentry informed us that he would perform her surgery at Retreat Hospital because he had the equipment and an experienced team working with him. Well now having had the laparoscopic surgery and experiencing the pre and post team we could not more satisfied. Everyone we interfaced with during the five day post operative stay provided focused, attentive and gentle care.

Top notch care! From the preop visit to the surgery. Everyone is so kind and reassuring. Preop was smooth and fast. They walked me through all of the testing. Sherline in the lab was AMAZING! Never felt the needle stick. Best one ever! Plus she gave all of the credit to her trainer, so sweet! Paperwork was explained, surgery day check in was explained, all questions answered. Easy preop. Surgery morning was easy. Everyone was very kind and caring. Post surgery I dont remember the 1st 10 hours. When I became aware again, the nurses were sweet, caring and interested in what I needed. Everyone acted like a friend. My night nurse was so sweet and I wish I could remember her name! The next nurse that came on duty was Deanna and she was great too! NP came in to talk to me and was so smart and sweet! PT visited and again very kind caring and helpful! This is an amazing place! Do not hesitate to go to Retreat for surgery and care!! They dont make you feel like you are a number. I felt very cared for. Great experience!!

Retreat Doctor's Hospital has won me over. From parking, pre-admission testing, surgery, recovery and discharge, it was a great experience. It is obvious from the lack of chaos experienced in other hospitals that the culture built at Retreat revolves around happy, well trained individuals who excel as a team. They are proud of their "small hospital" and should be.

What an incredible experience in the ER. My nurse, Nicholas was attentive and had a great sense of humor that was so refreshing during my stay, and doctor Browne was compassionate even though we couldn't really figure out what was wrong with me; the entire staff was caring, attentive, and overall just excellent. While I hope I don't need to return anytime soon, I am so happy to have found a hospital with a team I can trust as a new Richmond citizen!

My experience here was absolutely awful. I came in with a rather swollen arm resulting from a car accident. I had to request pain meds not one but twice, which I didn’t receive until 3 hours into my stay at which point I had also acquired a migraine. The doctors were slow to tend to me as well. I had a procedure here a few days ago on the 3rd floor in the surgery center... I must say that I received exceptional care... I was very nervous, and everyone with whom I interacted with from the nice older lady who greeted me at the ER, to the registration personel, to the kind young man (Tim I want to say was his name I'm not positive)who wheeled me up to the 3rd floor, to all the nurses, doctors, surgical staff ect... they were all kind, caring and considerate... I would like to especially recognize Dr. Gentry who did my surgery and Janet who was my nurse... I couldn't have asked for better care and I feel fortunate to have had my procedure done here...Thank you to everyone...keep up the great work you all do, it really makes a difference ❤️

Extremely unprofessional establishment. We were there Saturday night & had two people get admitted in the early hours of the morning. Neither got checked in with a hospital bracelet. They let us leave without a single discharge paper or any information. The staff was extremely rude & sadly very unhelpful. I do hope my friends can figure out what procedures were done to them behind closed doors, but so far there has not been a single indication of them being there when we have picture proof!

When my doctor told me that the surgery would be a Retreat Hospital I was a little hesitant. I was told that Retreat was the specialty hospital for my type of surgery. I was treated with extreme care while there, my nurses Lisa Stratiou and Trina Mayfield were the best. I got the attention I needed that you don't usually get in the large hospitals, this was my first overnight stay at any hospital, but my Mom and Dad who have both passed on has stayed at many and didn't receive the attention I received at Retreat. Also the nurse leader Philomina Williams came in several times to make sure all was good. Great Staff and hospital facility I would refer to others but hope I don't have to be hospitalized again

I got admitted to the behavior unit in July of this year and I would recommend it to people I know. But the head doctor there knew my doctor that's how i got to avoid the er. But they could make decision together but if he did not like what your were saying he would be done with you and ask you to leave talking to him for the day. I will say being there help me, I got my own room, got to do art therapy and better group. They could of stopped playing the same movies over and over it got old. I like getting to chose my own food there. There could of been better snacks. I would go back there again if I had to because its better than Tuckers unit but I don't think the head doctor would like seeing me there again. One thing the nurses need to be wary of withdraw issues that could happen to people coming off a med of going on a lower dose of the same medicine. In the end maybe HCA could make a unit for people with mental health issues and autism like I am doing because I have autism.

I came in with a laceration on my arm that needed a few stitches. I was seen immediately as I walked through the door. I was stitched and out the door within an hour. They also offered me a cab ride free of charge but I politely declined since I live walking distance from Retreat. I was treated by nurse Emily and Dr. Franklin Ewing.

Dr. Barton Sundin is the doctor who treats me for various skin issues. Dr Barton is outstanding as a physician. He has excellent diagnostic skills. He is wonderful as a person, bedside manner is great. I always felt good after a visit with him. He is patient, answers any and all questions you have, thoroughly. He genuinely cares for his patients. I am thankful to have him as part of my medical team. His nurses are great also.

Just spent six days in inpatient mental care at retreat; I'm shaken and traumatized. I understand that the care here is certainly better, and more comfortable than other area hospitals. I've known people to have less than pleasant experiences at Tucker's Pavilion at Chippendale too, and maybe that's the nature of institutions like this. However, I feel I was highly over medicated, especially at night. (sometimes being under the influence of as many as five different drugs with sedative properties) And that my patient concerns were not adequately addressed. It had been less than a week after my wisdom tooth removal and my anxieties and concerns regarding infection were taken with very little seriousness, and my dental care was HIGHLY restricted. Dr. Wiseman was not personable nor understanding, and did little to help me or put me at ease. I was easily the youngest person on the unit and my fears and anxieties were taken by staff as weak mindedness and reason to keep me there for longer, as was my crying and begging to go home. I saw the bitterness of the for profit system when patients with less insurance but more desire to be there were forced out, while I was kept until the last day my insurance would pay for. While I was incredibly shaken by this experience, I do want to die less... if only to stay the HECK out of "RETREAT" Overall, 3 out of 5 stars, can't smoke cigarettes, but you do get your own room, a menu daily, and comfortable amenities. Unfortunately the care left oh so much to be desired. Some specific nurses were absolutely lovely (Chris, Bethany, Aretha, and Jennifer specifically) but this is for MEDICATION STABILIZATION and not a therapeutic or consoling focused service, and patients should understand that going in.

I went in for preop tests. Everyone was polite, helpful and more important they genuinely looked happy. What would have taken hours at another hospital took about 1 1/2 at retreat. On my day of surgery after they took me back to preop the person at the desk in the surgical waiting area was concerned that my husband was alone. Before my surgery the anesthesiologist came in to introduce himself and explained what he was going to do. He held my hand the whole time he as talking to me. I guess he knows people going in for surgery are nervous and scared. Then his nurse assistant came in to introduce herself as well as the head nurse in the operating room. The nurses were so very pleasant and each of them said how much they liked working at Retreat. It says something when the nurses love what they are doing and where they are doing it. Retreat is the oldest hospital in Richmond but you would never know it when you walk inside. The place is spotless. Because of the age of the hospital the rooms are not as big as in larger hospitals but was large enough for my husband to spend the night with me. But really, how big does a hospital room need to be? I would without hesitation recommend Retreat Hospital. No one likes to be in a hospital but the staff certianly made my stay a pleasant one. THUMBS UP TO ADMINISTRATION AND STAFF WHO STRIVE FOR PERFECTION IN THEIR CAREGIVING!

Went to their ER for a Fibromyalgia flare up via ambulence and was not taken seriously at all. The nurse seemed skeptical of the fact that I have both Fibromyalgia and Ankylosing Spondylitis, probably because I'm only 19. The doctor didn't even come in he just stuck his head in real quick and prescribed me a random anti-inflammatory that is weaker than the one I already take twice a day. I was still crying in pain when I had to sign the discharge papers. When I went to get the prescription filled the PHARMACIST told me that this medication wasn't going to do anything for me. Will never be going back here for a chronic pain issue. The EMTs were the only people I encountered that genuinely seemed to care that I was suffering, everyone in the hospital treated me like some medication seeking teenager when I was genuinely having an issue that needed medical attention. It's not like I go to the ER overtime I had a flare up, this one had just been going on for hours and I couldn't get the pain below an 8. I could barely breathe and I could hardly move.
