Bleed to death on the street before you go here. My wife was here for 5 hours and was not seen! The staff was rude and did not care to give her an idea when she would be seen. But the many, many criminals that came in handcuffs were seen! The place was filthy and didn't seem to prioritize patient urgency properly. And this was supposed to be one of the BETTER hospitals in Washington. A complete joke! This place should be shut down!! And my wife feared for her safety in that the incompency of the staff! A pathetic excuse for emergency care. They really need a vast study of the procedures in the emergency room!! I can't say enough how poor this "emergency" room is!!!!!

I'm extremely upset with your physicians and staff in your endocrinologist in your physicians office building. I couldn't even get my son's prescription filled in a timely manner and he has run out of his meds and he has no thyroid so its extremely he takes his meds on time. This on top of an unresponsive doctor... I'm definitely finding another doctor for my son.

This is a nice hospital but be prepared for a long wait when in the emergency room.

Nathaniel Gregg

Gentlemen, you may not know me but I want a word with you. In Manhattan I prepared some renderings and models. I went on to become Sam E Studio whose work is critiqued on smartphone and laptop. I completed some graphics which resembles construction of your hospial and other Washington sites.

They keep changing doctors at every eye visits. They are good surgeons but don't expect to get treated fast and in a friendly manner. Hope it gets its priorities together.

While this hospital has excellent service and the people have all been just wonderful, the fact that my husband had surgery and never got a room is, in my opinion, despicable for what is supposed to be a world-class hospital. We spent a very stressful and fatiguing night in 3 different sections of the recovery unit. My husband got ZERO sleep. This is how someone right out of surgery is treated? Needless to say, letters will be written. Even though that won't do a lick of good. Very upset.

This is by far the WORST experience i have ever EXPERIENCED IN MY LIFE. I HAVE BEEN IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM SINCE 9:30pm. I am almost 4 months pregnant and in pain on a scale of 10 being the worst dehydrated and more. It is now 4 am the next morning. I have yet to b seen. If i wasnt gettig my prenatal care in the clinic i would kost definitely leave. Only cause my doctor is bomb im still waiting how is it that i came in a fulm emergency room and everyone else is called three people left me and two other ppl nd yet still not seen. I will be calling corporate office the mayor nd higher authority. This is ridiculously crazy

I was transferred here from southern Maryland hospital due to having second degree burn on the entire left side of my body. My hand had a 3rd degree burn. The ER staff was rude... first time coming there and they never looked up to greet anyone and when my husband asked him if we were in the right area for an ER transfer, the front desk guy acted annoyed as if we had interrupted his show (was watching video on his phone). I will say this is a trauma center to which I've never been b4. After I was taken back to be seen, you had to walk through an open room of patients and man have severe issues such as shot wounds, broken and exposed bones and it really caught me off gard because there is no privacy. Just a bunch of patients on stretchers crowding the trauma room with their paramedics. I was taken back to be treated and the doctors, nurses and all of them on the burn team were amazing. They did everything they could to make me feel comfortable

I cannot find the words to describe my/our experience at the Irving St location. My dear nephew was kept on life support until donor recipients and their surgeons could be located and procedures arranged. He was tenderly cared for and monitored. They arranged for snacks and for refreshments. They inquired about him, wanting to know a little about him. To the staff in 3G, he was a vital human being. The staff from WRTC was tremendously thoughtful and kind. I shall never forget the compassion and love all parties bestowed on my nephew and on his parents.

Giving it 2 stars because I adore the surgeon (Neurosurgery) and his team. The first few days the nursing staff was excellent (through Satuday). Sunday comes and we waited 1.5 hours for the nurse after calling 4 times. My husband is my main priority but not theirs. They don’t deserve even a 1! It’s one of the dirtiest hospitals I have ever visited. In 5 days they have yet to come and clean the room. The patient in the adjacent bed left and new patient assigned and no one mopped the floors? The bathroom has not been cleaned either. Ambarrasing. Very disappointed. Very very. It’s my first time here and hope it’s the last. Main bathrooms throughtout the hospital are mostly out of service and filthy.

Amber Garner

The nurses and doctors in the ICU are phenomenal. Some of the "sitters" were just blatantly rude and the step down nurse was a condescending clown that said his job was to "check my oxygen" although I saw him only when I buzzed him and he didn't check it. Apparently no one knew there was a call button in the room so I sat for hours asking different people to call my nurse. There's other issues I had but it's too much to explain.

KittySeph Tatsu

Inhuman experience...They look at patients as if they are lesser class cattle. I watch the desk ppl look at a sick pregnant woman lay on the floor and in the same night let a man collapse and walk right on by like nothing...Horrible desensitize people work here. They would have let these ppl just lay there if you didn’t force their hand... Worse 8 hours of being here with my grandmother. Would not recommend going here if you can help it.

Donna Collard

My Aunt was here and they were awful. They would let her lay in a dirty bed because they wouldn't come and help her up to go to the bathroom through the night. Then when they rushed her out to rehab, they cancelled her pain meds so she had no prescription for pain. Who the he'll does that to the elderly, especially a hospital .

bridgette metcalf

I Waited here for 9 hours to be seen. The Nurses are rude, unprofessional and unsanitary . After waiting 2 hours in the immediate lobby, I spent another 7 hours in a secondary lobby just to see a nurse not even a doctor. This is by far the worst medical experience I've ever had. I am a certified cna so I am fully aware of precautions that are necessary to prevent spreading bacteria and these nurses were not practicing these standards. My nurse even coughed in his hand and then proceeded in inserting my IV. There is little to no regard for the patient's pain or comfort. I completely discourage those seeking immediate care from coming to this hospital if they have the option.

Hannah Aguilar

service is terrible

Sunflower Goddess

I choose all of my doctors here. I love WHC!

Worst hospital EVAH! Really deserves 0 stars. This place is filthy and falling apart. Staff borders on incompetence. A procedure the Dr ordered was not done and the nurse argued with my wife that it was not necessary. Almost gave my wife a medication she's allergic to (ignoring the info on the red bracelet on her). Meals weren't delivered. I was told incorrect visiting hours. Woman in same room, who is blind, was left outside x-ray on a bed for hours. Avoid at all costs!!!!

I'm here ritethis place is dirty need to be shut dwn worst dan prison food nasty silverware dirty can't trust dis place bugs an jus need to be shut dwn

Mic- Money

Radiologist denied findings in my CT Scan. Leaving out the proper diagnosis. Without this no surgeon will fix this extreme pain I'm in. Why have these test if you will not diagnose them correctly?

scooby 12

When it comes to the HEART you CANNOT FIND a better hospital. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. The doctors and nurses CARE about their patients. My husband was diagnosed with thyroid disease and DR. WEXLER healed my husband IMMEDIATELY.

Joseph Edelen

I came to this facility for a Cardiac Catheterization. They found 4 blockages that stents would not repair. I returned for Quadruple bypass surgery and stayed an additional four days. The nursing staff was great. Got tired of the bed and the poor food served quickly. But they took very good care of me and I wouldn't hesitate returning if necessary.

Anabel Moreno-Mendez

DO NOT come here if you'd like prompt/courteous/compassionate care. DO come here if you have a death wish. I was referred here from an urgent care clinic RE a concussion/ possible brain bleeding and here's the low-down of my experience here. The "results waiting" section of the emergency room is disgusting (trash and bodily fluids are not cleaned up on a regular basis), there's nowhere for you to get water or food/snacks of any kind while you're waiting (and you're guaranteed to be waiting for a very long time since the staff seems to constantly be dragging their feet), and there seems to be a common theme of minorities and immigrants being pushed to side/ made to wait longer than other patients regardless of the severity of their pain/symptoms (this I realized after sitting in the waiting area for 6+ hrs). Nurses and staff completely ignored a sobbing patient who'd "already been seen" and was "waiting for results." Cherry on top was when one of the male technicians made sexist comments. Not only that but he went as far as joking about women's rugby (what I was playing when I obtained my concussion) being like lingerie football. I've been to some pretty crappy hospitals all over the world, but this is by far the worse.

I really wanted to give a good review. We had a wonderful experience earlier today with the Infusion Center. But we’re now 1 hour past our appointment time in the MRI Center. Watched 2 people arrive after us and be taken back. Arrived 30 minutes early as instructed. Had to ask when we might be taken back. Still another 20 minutes. The lack of communication is beyond frustrating.

Valerie Holmes

The staff is very friendly.

Deborah Landau

Terrible post-operative care, staff are stretched thin and quickly forget patients who need care. Machines beep endlessly, and staff are as miserable as the patients.

A. Williams

Absurdly long wait times, rude staff who lie to you and the chairs suck. The doctors are alright, but the staff is terrible.

Rich Miller

Initial treatment was 5 star (1 year ago) for emergency care, but now that we have been trying to get in for a followup visit with my wife Neurosurgeon has been an unbelievable beyond frustrating experience with multiple promises of return phone calls , lost records (multiple times). After 4 months we thought we had an appointment today and once again no record of our appointment (good thing we called ahead as we did not gt a confirmation on Friday) The excuse we were told made no sense (waiting on something(?) We were bringing the MRI ourselves so it wouldn't get lost again and this was discussed when making the appointment). I have never seen such a poorly organized office and lack of concern for patient's health and respect for time especially in a critical department such as this Neurology department.

Rebecca Craven

The doctor was very professional in coming to speak to me about the recent hospitalization of a family member. The rest of the staff nurses etc were very cold in that they showed no compassion or genuine concern for the patient. The staff seemed impersonal in their dealings with patients as a whole.

Janeyris Paniagua

It’s bad

One of the worst hospitals I've ever been too completely unorganized I waited 3hours when I got there via ambulance. As soon as I was about to leave they called me in the back just to be seen for 2mins only to be told to go back out and wait the crazy thing is my sister came with me I left but my sister stayed waiting on her ride. while she was waiting, another 1hr and half go pass and she was still there to finally here my named called but remember I left. I just went to my primary doctor the next morning and was seen in a standard time atleast.

Ryan H

Do not go here if you have a choice, 100% rip off, got a cut on my back and needed 8 stitches, and apparently that is enough to run FULL blood work including a toxicology? I went to CVS Minute Clinic to get the stitches removed and the doctor there looked at all the work MedStar did for a cut in the back and said "man did they rip off your insurance company", because of this I showed my invoiced review to a friend this is a registered nurse and she told me the same thing, "wow that is a lot of unnecessary tests" Also please do not give me a generic reply of "please reach out to a patient advocate" as all you offer are generic solutions that will go nowhere , this is a typical generic hospital with the usual typical amount of generic non-caring staff with probably a high turnover rate that you see parodied a lot about hospitals. Also note I'm not just leaving this place a review because "I like to complain", I love to leave places good reviews and I don't generally review "hospitals" but I honestly feel ripped off by this place and would highly recommend against going here

Donayre Jimenez

Waiting line is insane plus they don’t even let my wife come to the room with me this is stupid

Mia Dillard

The waiting room smells of urine. The emergency room smells of urine. The wait time is longer than the average workday. The nurses openly make fun of their patients in front of other patients (HIPPA violation

Kendall Moore, II

Let's just say I had to leave this hospital to go to another because the care was awful and their staff didn't know what they were doing. I would never recommend this hospital to any one that seeks quality care. Nice people but terrible quality and you could tell (overheard conversations) a bunch of their staff didn't want to be there.

Samuel Muchiri

This was the worst hospital (E.R) experience ever. We took a patient who has already been diagnosis with Cancer to the E.R at approximately midnight. It took them more than 5 hours to even see the patient. Crazy thing is we were no the only ones complaining. When we told the gentleman in the front desk whats going on, he said "everyone is sick too and we are very busy) - I still cant believe somebody in the medical profession - somebody who others are trusting their lives and health with can say that. Finally, around 7 am, the patient was called in. She was in so much pain and we asked the RN for some pain meds - she kept on dodging us for like 2 hours. She had the audacity to even change shifts and went home without helping us. When they removed her drip, she started bleeding and the band aid/bandage was all red. We asked her to change it and she comfortably said "I will change it when you guys are being discharged." We have the names of all these "professionals" and we shall be taking appropriate legal measures accordingly. We go to another hospital (wont name it) - Amazing. One thing though, while in waiting area, i looked around me one word came to my mind. DIVERSITY!!!

The lady in clinic registration is the nastiest, rudest, horrible person that I have come across. She speaks to people like trash. Everytime we co.e she gets worst and worst. I am a RN of 29 years now a director. I would never employ someone with that attitude. I don't know if she is a miserable long time employee or not, but she needs a job with no human interaction. Who complains and talks about a patient causing you to have to do more work to a co worker, and the patient is standing there listening. She told an elderly patient to step back away fro. Her and sit down until she finishes her phone call. I know my husband needed that appointment bad so I just ignored her rants. I will be to happy not to see her agai n. Please let this appointment go well. If I could have rated a zero but you can't. She is an older lady very short brown reddish hair. She is always at the clinic registration desk. Avoid if you can.

If I could give this hospital less than 1 star, I would. I work internationally, often in rural and remote locations, and I have NEVER been to a hospital as unhygienic than this one. I went for a simple new patient appointment to see a PCP on a day I wasn't feeling well anyway. I thought, great! Perfect timing. I live in the NE sector of DC, and the only way I could get to the hospital was by taking a $15 Lyft ride ($30 RT). Upon arrival, I was given a sticker with the Suite number which consisted of two number/letter combinations. Utterly confused, I followed the receptionist's directions as far as I could, before I was intercepted by someone who worked at the hospital and was clearly used to seeing lost people. It took 4 PEOPLE to get me to the clinic. Once I arrived, I found it was under construction. The "automatic" wheelchair "accessible" double door was broken, and although I am a strong 30-something, I had difficulty opening the door myself. I couldn't imagine how the very fragile patients in the waiting room had opened the door. I waited for a decently short time and was smiled at by the receptionist (hence 1 star), and then was led to the "triage room", which was nothing more than a large closet with oxygen tanks and old equipment from the 1960s that I assumed were just being stored, until the nurse started using them to take my vitals! Everything was covered in dust and grime. I couldn't believe my eyes. I was then transferred into a clinic room, and walked over a DEAD COCKROACH on the floor. Midway through my examination by the resident, the door opened (NO KNOCK) and a maintenance person came in to take out the garbage. The resident picked up the garbage can with her bare hands to give it to him, and did not wash them afterwards. She couldn't have washed her hands afterwards, though, because there was no sink, running water, soap, disinfectant. There wasn't even a kleenex. I was feeling so uncomfortable and unsafe, that after waiting for 20min for the Attending to see me, I left. $15 Lyft ride return. I will NEVER go to this hospital again, if I can help it. I was utterly horrified by the unsanitary conditions, and the bureaucratic nature of care. I felt terrible for the truly ill patients I saw there, and if I could, I would have swept each of those patients up with me and taken them elsewhere. No one deserves health care like this. I'm shocked to find this dismal facility in the capitol of our country.

Thelma Betterton

Sat here in the ER for two hours, I was on the phone with family telling them they seem like they not doing no work and one of the employees yelled out we are working and told the police to escort me out the back. They are rude and disrespectful. And the back was dirty. Everyone standing around talking but no work was being done... The ER is nothing like the hospital.... So I didn't get seen, I left.

I had a very unique experience at OBG/YN. Doctors saved my baby at the very last moment during labor. His heart stopped before delivery. The labor procedures happened in just 2 minutes and my baby saved at the very last moment. Thanks a lot @Dr. Tom and Dr. Sidiqi. Naheedahmadi,

My grandmother was sent to this hospital the day after her and my grandfather celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary..while my grandmother was admitted she had to share a room and my grandfather was kicked out. All he wanted to do was be by her side. Not only was he kicked out of his room he was kicked out of the lounge/waiting area. He had to sleep in his car overnight... why wasn't he accommodated?!!??!! The hospital I work at has a 24 hour visiting policy and EVERY room is private.

Samantha Tierney

I was referred to the rheumatology department by my primary care physician, also within MedStar. When I called to make any appointment, they were extremely rude and required me to call my primary care physician to send over information that they already had in the system. I called my primary care physician who called the rheumatology department and told them my records were already in the system. Do not go here. They clearly do not know what they are doing. If they don't know you are in the system and make no effort to provide customer service, they don't deserve your business.

Emergency department complete trash arrived at 12:30pm didn’t get seen the until after 5pm. When I inquired about the wait of course they said it according to urgency. One of the Doctors gave me medication that caused me to have to stop breastfeeding my 4 month old baby. They ran labs and got a urine sample and told me everything was normal. I had to beg, pled & cry to convince the Attending Doctor to run more test just to find out I was suffering from a chronic illness that was at 7pm. Even after that I was treated poorly I didn’t get my antibiotics until 1am I was never admitted they sat me in the hallway suffering with vomiting, bloody diarrhea, pain. They just diagnosed me with a lifetime illness with chronic pain and just left me there with no information about UC. I didn’t leave until 3am still in the same pain I went in for.

This is the hospital that in the event you don't care about your family members you'd request them to be sent to. My dad was admitted to this hospital after suffering a minor heart attack. His condition improved and he was scheduled to be discharged. Somewhere along the line he suffered some complications and passed. We were not notified of his passing until three days later. We called the hospital and the nursing station speaking to the charge nurse who notified us that he had been "discharged" and that a social worker would call us by the end of the day. Three days felt like a century. Three days later we receive a call saying my father passed away three days prior. No one reached out to the emergency contact, and when the only designated emergency contact calls to inquire they're lied to. Can you imagine that emergency contact being an 82 year old mom of the deceased who got hit with the shock and also grief all at the same damn time. To add salt to the wound, the hospital believes they did nothing wrong. Don't send your family here. Obviously they don't know how to pick up a phone and have common decency and courtesy of humanity and medicine to inadvertently have to operate or prescribe medications in the event that's the course they deem necessary. Don't go here, stay away.

Gina Evans

Very concerned for my dad. He had an appointment with Dr Salter at 1pm. It is now 5:30pm an still haven't seen Dr. We had a 3 hr drive to get here and now waiting 4 hrs and still waiting to see the Dr makes you wonder if your making the right decision. Both my parents are near 80 yrs old and are not in good health. Receptionist (Shirley) left while we are still waiting. All I can say is wow.

On October 18th, I had back surgery at this hospital. The staff was so outstanding. First the staff demonstrated a superior level of care every time they interacted with me. Secondly, each staffer wore a ray of sunshine that flowed upon me which helped me not to focus on being sick, but focus to work harder to get better. Lastly, I want to say thank you so very much to Sarah, Manny, Summer, and the other staff members who worked the midnight shift on October 18th and 19th. Also I send a thank you to the physical therapy department as well. All of you made my hospital stay an actual pleasure. Again thank you guys so much, Rose Mary Lee

Madara Lucas

They have completely lost there minds they are not seeing patients correctly they have doctors on an iPad seeing an ordering things to give to patients without a full exam they disclose ur very personal information to all other patients they send everyone to fast track this is the worst hospital I have ever been all of these doctors an nurses need sensitivity training an need to learn to give proper care so there patients don’t end up in someone else’s emergency room!!! They diagnose u wrong completely it has happened too many times to me my self this place needs to be closed down they violate hippa and they make more the enough money to give patients privacy all type of sick peoples laying in halls an people walking around them

Inika Buie

I was diagnosed as high risk 1 week prior after an ultrasound appointment showed my cervix was open I was rushed to labor an delivery where I stayed for 3 days. 23 weeks pregnant. I was diagnosed as high risk but not put on bed rest. On my first appointment for my high risk pregnancy was 1 week later. 9:30am. August 30, 2017. At 7:30am my water breaks!!! I notice immediately and I knew it was amniotic fluid right away! This was a slow leak. I continued to get ready for my appointment remained calm. I arrived at 9:am and let the young lady at the desk know my water was leaking. She said that's fine your doctor will be here soon. 9:30 I used the bathroom everything is dry..no more leaks! But because I'm high risk I maintain the belief that I'm in labor. I advice the triage nurse of everything that happened that morning. She takes my vitals and tells me my doctor will be there shortly. Finally I see my doctor who I frantically explain the morning events too..she tells me with out checking. I probably had a bit of discharge.i told her it ran down my leg! She said I may have leaked urin. I explain the color the contractions. She told me they could be Braxton Hicks!!. She had a STUDENT come in and check me after I begged to be checked. He used a strip and said no amniotic fluid (they told me to use the bathroom and wipe well) and that my cervix was dialated 2cm. Fast forward I leave the hospital feeling crazy. I go and rest and 12am 8/31/17.. I feel intense contractions!! I stand up and my water gushes out.. my husband rushes me to the hospital..where labor and delivery explain if checked sooner . .. if I would have come in earlier ... They could have delayed the labor maybe even a few weeks!!! Because baby's created their own fluid. My son was born the next morning. he lived for 3 days only. Do not go here if you are high risk!!!! They do not care!! They did not care! I told them I was in labor! I don't even think the STUDENT who checked me checked me correctly!!! I hate them they allowed son to die!!!!

Nahelene Mitchell

You have a waiting period of three hours for your appointment. And an half to 45 minutes after for discharge. Although you see at least 4 to 5 receptionist sitting there talking to each other, no one answers the phone all day. You may be running late because of something beyond your control, yet when you get there you appointment is canceled . They do nothing to help you, not even get you another appointment. All this could've been avoided if the spend less time gossiping and designate one of those 5 people to ANSWER THE PHONE! !!!!!!!!, we are the patients.

Everyone was very nice and it also was clean

HR they are so unprofessional

Maxime Vaysse

Nurses and doctors were really competent and patient. They do their best for taking care of us. Thanks for everything.

Karen Christmas

My daughter was bought to this hospital under the worst possible circumstances. The doctors, nurses, and other staff at this hospital treated us with the utmost respect. They answered the questions we did have, went out of their way to explain every detail of her treatments and treatment plan, accommodated the hordes of visitors in ICU, and offered the counseling we needed! I absolutely love this place for what they've done for my daughter to make a tragedy as comforting as possible!!! The parking is readily available and reasonable, although if you know that your loved one will be there for a long term stay, invest in the unlimited entry parking card. It will save you!!! We paid $55 which includes a refundable deposit for a card that provides unlimited entry and exit for 10 days! Thank you to everyone who played a part in saving my daughters life, keeping her husband and family comfortable and we'll informed, and making what easily the worst experience of our lives tolerable.

Tice Pretty

I do not recommend the er it is unprofessional and not clean the doctors are uncaring don’t go here

Germay Coe

This is a fantastic hospital. The doctors and nurses were very caring in helping my family in dealing with my sister's care after a very serious motor vehicle accident. They did everything they could possibly do. Unfortunately, no matter how great the care, the injuries were to severe and God decided to take her home. My family will be forever grateful to WHC for all their efforts.

Chut Vu

Mila (RN) at the burn unit is great. She was extremely helpful and patience with my mother. She really lighten the room up. Too bad, I cannot say that about some of the other nurses. My mother had a surgery, and the doctor did a good job.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THE I.C.U NURSES, DOCTORS, AND STAFF FOR SAVING MY LIFE. I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH SEPSIS PNEUMONIA AROUND THE 2ND WEKK OF JANUARY 2018. WHEN I ARRIVED IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM THERE HAD ABOUT 30 OTHER PATIENTS, AND LUCKY ENOUGH, THE WAIT TIME WAS ABOUT AN HOUR. FROM E.R. TO I.C.U., THE STAFF DID EVERYTHING TO START TREATMENT AS I LATER LEARNED THE SERIOUSNESS OF MY ILLNESS. I STAYED 5 DAYS IN I.C.U, AND ANOTHER 5 DAYS RECOVERING ON ANOTHER FLOOR. I AM STILL RECOVERING BUT I AM HERE !!!! I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE NAMES IF THE NURSES IN I.C.U IF POSSIBLE. I WOULD LIKE FOR THEM TO SEE WHAT AN AMAZING JOB THEY DID FOR ME. AND THANK THEM FACE TO FACE. WORDS CAN NOT DESCRIBE MY GRATITUDE. TO MEDSTAR. EVERYONE WORKED TOGETHER TO SAVE MY LIFE !!!! THANK YOU ! LEPHWAY00@YAHOO 6 months later...05.15.18 I am now 100% healthy. What a journey. #stayhealthy I've been given a second chance... Thank you !!

Just Want To Run

I gave birth to my third child here in early 2017. I had been in labor and it progressed very quickly in the car to the point that my water broke. I was taken directly to Labor & Delivery and she was born without any problems 20 minutes later. The doctors and nurses were amazing! I and my baby were taken care of in comfort while any and all of our needs were met. I highly recommend them.

Quality Care I was hit by a car a week ago en route to go pick up my daughter from school. I was admitted into MedStar WHC. I was given excellent treatment for the care of my legs. 1 of them, the right femur had been completely fractured & needed work to restructure it. I had a super awesome team of nurses Adia, Kristina "Krissy" Sproul, Jeremiah Zeckerias, & Armando all took wonderful care of me. Never remembered any nurses names that took care of me because their services were pathetic at other hospitals. Not this team. Despite my injuries, I'm in here making impressions on MedStar Washington Hospital Center staff.

Ashlynn Pai

I've had fantastic experiences with everyone at Medstar. I don't know if I've just gotten really lucky but if so I'm grateful for the lucky streak that I've had so far.

Paulie B

Terrible hospital. It's old, run down and dirty. Some elevators were not working. The bathroom had more pee on the floor than in the toilet. The janitor came and sat down in the waiting room and proceeded to hold loud lewd conversations with 2 different women. There was some kind of liquid substance on the ceiling of our room. There is random hand wipes with unknown stuff on them laying on the floor . My wife had 2 hours in between ops and was told there really was no where to stay inbeween ops. We were taken to a cell (curtained off room) where a nurse was sleeping? She burst into tears and ran out while the other nurses laughed. We are now 3 hours past our op time. This place is huge but there's only on Dr working? Stay away from here if you ever been to a real hospital. This place is not professional at all.

Clovis Bond

I never been in a hospital emergency room like this ever, it like a 1big room with nurses and patients all over the place, nothing is private. I pray I never get sick at work again.

Alex Baybee

I'm reported to Washington Hospital Center daily due to my severe uncontrollable asthma. Service is not only excellent but very quick with thorough results and/or diagnoses. From me, 5 stars.

Davis Thompson

I was a patient there 3-27-2019 thru 4-01-2019 and I have nothing but praise for their entire staff of doctors, techs, nurses and dietary personnel. Everybody I came in contact with greeted me with a smile and very patient and attentive to my questions and needs/wants. They really kept me calm during this difficult experience I was going through. Some I would I would give a little more thanks to because I dealt with them more but if Medstar looked at my chart for everyone who attended to me they know who they are. I give the employees and hospital a big THANK YOU. Just wish I could do more.

My boyfriend and I are currently in the E.R. He only goes to get his vitals checked and back. He realizes he left his phone in the back. We asked and no one can find it. It's back there obviously. Ridiculous! Who steals phones anymore?!

Regina Matthews-West

If I could give zero stars I would. I'm a LVAD patient here at this hospital, and to say they treat me horrible is an understatement. If I could go somewhere else I would but I cannot. I have been to there ER 5 times within a 3 week period and they refuse to help me with the pain that I am having with my heart ware machine. I am currently eligible for a heart transplant but do not trust my team because there has been some major issues since my open heart surgery. I thought I was in great hands but that's how they make you feel before surgery and then after surgery the y throw you to the side as if you don't matter anymore. I have been trying to reach upper management so that they can understand what I am doing through as a patient. But all I get is excuses please avoid this place at all cost if you can.

Although the check in is bad and the hospital isn't as nice as others, the doctors and nurses were very nice to me and made sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. Their customer service is for a fact their strong suit .

Zaki Din

Horrible experience. Avoid at all costs. Far better options in the area. Lack of organization and professionalism is the primary reason I wish I had initially gone to a different hospital.

This is suppose to be a “ Teaching Medical School “ maybe that’s why the US is ranked equal to third world countries in our health care. Why are we fighting for heath care politically until we get our dental and medical care above the poorest countries?

Crystalline Anderson

Poor poor Service I was admitted on the 24th and and discharged today July 4th. I was on 3floor 3f and let’s just say the bed side manners are awful the nurses are trash the ppl tht being the food don’t read off the entire menu give you wht they want you to have the house keeping only come when a discharge had happen smh my floor was dirty since I got in the room all they do is take the trash bed side toilet was never cleaned.. they want to pump you with so many meds for no reason. Labor and delivery team was awesome aside from admissions/registration. Extremely rude and unprofessional but, hospital staff such as doctors, nurses, food nutrition, house keeping. ALL wonderful people! Thanks you guys in assisting with the arrival of my new baby.

Update: Spent 14 hours at this god awful place!! 14 HOURS!!!!! Will NEVER go back to this ER again!! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!! I'm currently going on my 7th hour at the ER with my gf at this TERRIBLE hospital. Arrived at 11 pm....Didn't get called to go in the back until 3:30 am. In the back...it looks and sounds like a zoo. People are in hospital beds EVERYWHERE. The nurses and remaining staff are EXTREMELY LOUD LAUGHING AND TALKING. I've never been to a hospital this LOUD before! 5:00 am...no one has checked on her or given her any meds. She went to the restroom in tears from pain...and pulled the cord for help. 15 minutes later...still no help. Finally at 5:45...ALMOST 7 HOURS AFTER WE ARRIVED HERE...THEY GIVE HER SOME MEDS! So now we're waiting for whats next. THIS IS BY FAR THE WORSE EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD AT A HOSPITAL IN MY LIFE!! This place needs to be shutdown IMMEDIATELY!!

Some one hit me in a car accident in DC and i was taken by an ambulance in to the emergency room when i got in i was in pain and they to me to go to the front and register because one they didn't care two they where two lazy the info from the ambulance person which they already have all the info they need i came in 5 pm and i waited and waited i was in pain all the time believe when i say i saw the doctor at around 3AM i waited 10H before i saw the doctor i say some patients living the ER because they gave up that they wouldn't be taken care of it was a very sad seen people were waiting for hours and hours i felt so bad for all the people that was there i could believe they call them self a hospital it is the most uncaring place ever i feel so bad for the people that live in that area.I live in VA and if you go in the emergence room you are in and out within 1h and the care they provide for you is excellent you will see the doctor with in 10 min they need to come to VA and learn some. Who ever is running that " hospitals" has to get fired or need to to make a big change. I don't do reviews but i really care about the people i was very sadden by what i saw i am writing this in the hope that they well make a change and they need to give each person that comes to the hospital a review paper so they can see how the staff is doing and area that they need to improve on. Finally i want to give the Doctor a credit she saw i long i waited and felt very bad and apologize to me and she was very nice and caring thanks you Doctor for the apology i hope they give you a better team.

Admittance was terrible!!! We there on Dec 2, 2016 for my husbands ablation. Once we got there an started with admittance for the surgery they informed us that we had a copay of 20% of the surgery bill amount an wanted the payment up front an didn't offer a payment plan. When the supervisor was brought over she offer a payment plan of 350.00 a month which she felt was reasonable. Well at 2300.00 that was not reasonable to us because we could afford this kind of payment. We were told if we didn't offer something up front atleast half the payment my husband could not have his surgery. So, we were forced to put it on a credit card an then the admittance lady called billing an we were told we could make payments on the remaining amount. Here we were never informed on the phone before the surgery we would owe this an then this put alot. Of stress on my husband who was there to have surgery an he almost walked out with out getting it done. To top it all off to this date the hospital has not billed my insurance nor have they sent me any billing information. This is a horrible way to run a hospital and bad patient service.

Linda Madueme

Try and call this place with a serious question/emergency and the phone will either ring for hours with no response, or the staff will make you wish you hadn't called in the first place. Ridiculous.

This hospital needs to be investigated and sanctioned. My mom had spinal surgery and spent four days in the operation recovery area in the basement because there were no beds available upstairs. Upon visiting, I asked for a chair and a nurse told me I wasn't allowed a chair because visits are only 10 minutes in recovery. My issue was, she wasn't supposed to be in recovery and that she was only in recovery because the hospital had nowhere to put her which isn't the family or patients fault. Then, she was suddenly discharged and when I went to pick her up, she was seeing colors, hearing voices and her for foot was swollen. I asked if they were really discharging her like that, the nurse asked her what month and year it was, which my mom answered correctly and the nurse said she was fine and we'll hear from someone following up on her. Then I get to the pharmacy to put in her meds and I'm advised by the pharmacist that the insurance won't cover the narcotic because the DEA # had expired. How is a hospital or doctor of a hopital DEA# expired? So, I had to pay out of pocket for her meds. I've had my own issues with WHC and their affiliates but this was just ridiculous. I, myself was scheduled for surgery later this month and the lady who scheduled my surgery called me last week and told me I needed to reschedule because my surgeon was going to have an emergency the day of my surgery. How does someone have an emergency three weeks away? I asked her if there were any special instructions I needed to follow leading up to my surgery and she said she didn't think so. I've had surgery before, so I know there are instructions but the fact that she told me she didn't think so, is ridiculous and quite dangerous. Then, after this week with my mom, I'm not sure if I'll even attend my own surgery. WHC clearly is overwhelmed and they're going to kill someone.

Alana Willis

This is a wonderful hospital! All of my doctors are here and I have my surgeries here also. I always received excellent care here!

Waited in the waiting for 2 hours while they want to charge 5 dollars for 3 hours of parking.... They make u wait so u have to pay more while they take their sweet ass time getting to u.... There's no reason in hell i shouldve waited from 12:15 to 2:30 to be called and still havent been seen yet.... When ive already told the front desk i may have pneumonia and i have asthma and SVT and that my breathing is affected.... But u have me waiting 2 hours in a waiting room.... I will be writing the director ASAP! cause its unfair and unjustly that people where seen before me that came in after me.... Its crazy that they treat patients with illnesses this way.... If im concerned you should be too...

This was by far the most frustrating and nerve wrecking emergency room visits ever. I bought my 72 year old father to ER on yesterday at 4:30pm. They admitted him about 8pm. In the meantime they had him as well as others in beds all in the hallway with no privacy or decency. The computers had no screens on them so I could see all the patients info and what medicines they were getting. They were open for ppl to see. The nurses were sitting at the stations watching YouTube and being on social media. The people who came to start IV’s and check blood sugar were coming in and out the room with the same gloves. They did not perform hand hygiene or use new gloves until I asked. The doctor did a rectal exam on my dad and removed 1 glove and walked out the room with 1 bloody glove on through the hall to use it as a sample. The man night nurse gave my dad a medicine in the morning before he left and a hour later a new nurse came with the same medicine and said it was not in the chart that he was given the medicine. This is how medical overdoses and mistakes are made. About 12:45pm the next day still waiting in the ER, several doctors came in to discuss a plan, none of them washed their hands, used hand sanitizers or cleaned their stethoscope. No wonder so many germs are spread in the hospital. After 26hrs in ER waiting my dad finally got a room. I did write down all of the staff names but I’m not trying to put them on blast. I had both of my children at WHC and I use to love this hospital but if you love yourself and you want to protect yourself then don’t come to this ED. Go to AAMC. I did have 1 good nurse that practice safety precautions. Never will return here. I felt like I was at DC General in the 90’s.

Valeed Siddiqi

My younger brother had a planned surgery here. They started 4 hours late which is understandable but post surgery they didn't have a room for him until almost midnight. The room they gave was a shared one. I try not to judge but they put him in a room with a gangbanger who was super loud and obnoxious the entire time. We found out through his loud conversations that he was a gun shot victim. The hospital would not let me stay overnight with my brother. Luckily, no one came to finish the job on his hospital room mate. Our family was more afraid to leave my brother at the hospital overnight than the actual surgery itself. The staff here are nice though.

Abu-Amir Gubartalla

Great service and never issues with getting an appointment for my family.

amanda wilkes

Ran out of ice packs. They lied about time frame I was there. After being treated horribly by the admissions person, I was left in a room for 2 hours. I was washing my own wounds when the PA came in asking what I was doing. Bonnie the PA was the saving grace of this antiquated and very dirty hospital. I never knew American hospitals could be like this. I have not been able to get a person to forward my records after calling for almost a week

Joe Schmeltzer

Clean and organized

Patient treatment in 1-T U has far surpassed anything I could've hoped for. My mother is in EXCELLENT hands!!Thank God for the skilled, genuinely caring nurses & doctors!!

If there were an option to give lower than 1 star, that is exactly what I would give this hospital. Both in the ER and on the floor once admitted. The ONLY nice experience I encountered at this hospital was my surgeon and the wonderful nurse that took care of me in post-op until my room was ready. I was transported from over an hour away to this hospital only to be left with difficulty breathing sitting by the COLD door with no one helping me for an hour. Not only that, but when my family called to get an update on me they were told I was in a room. The only room I was in, was the waiting room where the "nurses" were watching a football game on tv. After my surgery, in post-op I was having some problems and the nurse got a doctor (who was working on the floor, not mine) and she said "to find someone else because she didn't want to have to follow up with me since I wasn't her patient." And after all of the terrible experiences, when I was finally discharged after being admitted after my surgery, the nurse had me take out my IV, and then had me walk to the entrance of the hospital to await my car. If you want to have horrible treatment, then I fully recommend this terrible hospital. If you want to be treated like a human, after being sick and having surgery...go elsewhere! I have never written a bad review about anything, however someone needs to put a stop to how horrible this hospital and its staff are. I have called numerous times to address my issues and concerns with my treatment and have yet to receive a call back. That should tell you something shouldn't it?

Miss Shirley(ER) was SO kind and patient!! I was inquiring to see if a friend had been brought there-as I'm not familiar with the area-concerning a kidney problem. He wasn't there but Miss Shirley made me more at ease. This is,my first time dealing with this hospital;but I must say THANK YOU Miss Shirley!

Danny Armijo

I had triple bypass 08/31/15 by Dr. Boyce. I woke up with little pain and within 30 hours I was ready to get up and walk and did. The nurses on 4NW were very professional without being snooty or bossy. From check in to check out I was made to feel comfortable and safe. Thank you for my life medstar and Dr. Boyce

GuhthatsDee

I was in the emergency room tonight for 6 hours because I'm not the type of person that scream and act out I wasn't important enough to the doctor to be seen. I was on the red team and my nurse kept push for the doctor to come over and talk to me but he just kept walking pass looking over me like my pain wasn't important to be treated then once I said something to him and told him I was leaving he told me in 15 minutes there will be more doctors in and one of them can get to me but u not gonna get better without meds so u knew I needed meds and what was going on with me but still ignored me. I packed up my stuff and left the nurse felt so bad for me I went home in pain....

I actually called the inspector general office today i actually have nurses on recording swearing at patients threating to restrain people i also called to report my wife having to wait over 27 hours for a bed. This place needs to be investigated. I also work for medicare so when i get to the office tomorrow i am going to do the nessercy paperwork to start an investigation against this place from what i have seen and what i have recorded people human rights where violated by these staff. Plus there was alot of mistreatment toward patients very sad i am going to seek justice for these people who where mistreated i actually was able to get there names and addresses. This hospital needs to have a come to Jesus meeting with the emergency room staff on the way they treat people. Very very sad. Actually i am going to talk to the patient advocate to see what they have to say about this i have been advised not to turn over the recording because this will help my case once i retain a lawyer on how my wife was also treated and spoken to good thing for cellphone this place will be on the news promise everyone that.

Pamela Stevens

The care my son received was amazing. The staff couldn't be better. Thanks to all. Especially 4E.

Maryellen Cunnion

I have been trying to reach the billing department for over 2 hours and the phone just rings and rings. I called the main hospital center and she connected me to collections even though I explained I just received the bill. The charges were never sent to my insurance company, even though I presented my cards . I spent way too many hours in the emergency room with little interaction with doctors or nurses. I was brought in by ambulance for a suspected heart attack, even though I knew that wasn't the problem. If I had been examined carefully by the ER doctor, he may have discovered what was actually wrong and I wouldn't have needed all the tests I received. I went to a doctor who correctly diagnosed the problem quickly after a thorough exam. Now I can't even reach the billing department to get my bill adjusted. The doctor charged $390 for less than a 2 minute evaluation and then was too busy to discharge me for almost an hour!! I have spent a lot of time in busy city emergency rooms when my husband was ill and never saw anything like this place! Just received my THIRD incorrect bill - I called and was told there was no record of my contact after the first incorrect bill and no record of my insurance information which I gave at that time! They claimed iImust have called either the doctor billing or the x ray dept. I called ALL THREE and only have received the incorrect bills twice from the emergency room bill. More disgusted now than I was before! Totally unacceptable!!

There should be an option to no select any of these star. This hospital is some straight trash. The few nurses that the hospital has isn't enough to give the hospital a great review. My father was admitted to this hospital in June and is still there. Nursing staff is THE WORST. Yesterday (7/31/19) did it in for me. I'm ready to wrap my dad up myself and take him home and figure things out on my own. If he gets 1 bed sore..... If you have a say so on where your loved one goes please opt for other options.

Peyton Lavin

This hospital and it's amazing doctors, surgeons, and nurses saved my father's life with an emergency open heart surgery. I am nothing but grateful for all of the staff (especially Lowell Satler, Ammar Bafi, nurses Liz and John) and faculty (especially Linda Taylor) for their constant kindness, expertise, and helpfulness throughout this experience with my family. I will be forever indebted to them.

Barrie Palmer

Couldn't praise this hospital enough. Staff are wonderful

Heather Deutsch

Horrific. Decided to see and ENT thinking I might have had an ear infection and was about to go on a long trip. Very difficult to get there (forget sidewalks) and a 45 minute wait. Because the doctor's office is in the hospital, you have to sign a document saying you are aware there are additional hospital charges, but of course no one knows how much. So, expect to pay an additional $200 just for an office visit. And, even if you pay your bills immediately, expect to be hounded by debt collectors - subtracting numerous hours from my life. But, hey, during the 15 consultation ($450) I was informed I was fine.

Tonya Gallop

My daughter had nose surgery. The doctors, nurses, the entire team was WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!

DON'T CARE

So i just sat in Washington Hospital Center after seeing the doctor i waited 3 hours for them to bring me a medication that i have at home. No one told me what or why i was waiting. They just said they're waiting for the pharmacy to bring it. ..... Now I just drove to Providence which gets a bad rep but i dont have issues here. Im usually in and out.

Leiydi Sanchez

My father had been there for 8 hours with his stomach pain since he been there he only got pain killer medicine and a IV put in I asked a man that was sitting next to where my fathers door was he told me to he to busy to tell me who my father nurse was went I asked him for help. He was to busy texting to even take a second to look and see who my father nurse was. They gave the worst customer service and the worst service in the world. My father walked out with the IV still put in his hand. He even got a bad pain. I wouldn’t recommend this hospital to no one. They don’t care about the people that was sick there my father never once seen the doctor.

Jewel Jones-Bey

This is one of the best hospitals in the DMV area. I'll go her if i have to crawl.

Jean Capps

I took someone undergoing withdrawal from opioids to the ER on a weekend afternoon. They received excellent care from a doctor that really knew what he was doing. The service was superb. My only wish is that they had better knowledge of rehab facilities so that the person could have gone directly into rehab afterwards. We have been to the ER many times with many members of my family. It is a high volume facility and the most critical people are seen first. When we have had life-threatening conditions we were seen right away.

Veronica Valladares

Worst experience. Waited HOURS I know you have to wait and I’m a patient person but never had I had to wait for this long ever just to be seen! In a lot of pain that I could no longer stand the noise around me I was annoyed, mad, and in pain.

Jessica Ricker

It's awful. My husband went in and needed his heart checked to be sure he doesn't have a heart condition. They "admitted" him, which apparently to them means on a stretcher stuck in some random hallway all night. They promised him an Echo last night, it's now the next morning with no test. They just keep telling him "soon." He's next to a nurse's station and all they do is sit there and complain endlessly about patients, which is completely unprofessional. They are there to help people, not complain about it, especially not in front of patients. He asked his head nurse when he was getting the test and she said "I just checked." but really hadn't because she had just sat there complaining about a patient. He really needs these tests and instead is about to walk out because he's tired of their antics. He's only there because he works in D.C. and that's when he started having symptoms. Otherwise he'd be at Baltimore Washington in Glen Burnie, which in my opinion, is a MUCH better hospital.

Ana Martinez

My grandmother took a fall last night and didn't seek medical attention. When I arrived home the day after I decided to take her to this hospital to make sure everything was okay because she had an open gash that apparently bleed a lot and could get infected. It has been 4.5 hours since we got here and my grandmother has only been check for high blood pressure. When I asked the receptionist for any update I was treated like a piece of trash. Honestly, we are so tired of waiting that we just want to walk out but I know that my grandmother's health is important.

Anish Patel

As a physician, this is one of the least respectful and humane settings possible. Awful patient service.

Jack B-P

Waited for 8 hours and received no useful service. People can be condescending and when asked to do something for you or help find you, they ignore this request and continue on with their lives. Meanwhile a simple psych evaluation takes upwards of 8 hours even after being recommended for discharge I could not leave. Messy, unhelpful and you will more than likely grow old or die in this hospital waiting for help.

Am Ku

Don't go here if you're having a baby. The rooms are not very nice and the whole hospital is very disorganized. I'd submitted my info (insurance/contact info) ahead of time and they didn't have any of it. I was a scheduled induction and they didn't know I was coming. But most aggravating, they didn't submit the paperwork for our baby to get a birth certificate or a social security number (even though we have copies that we filled it out). The only good thing was the nurses - all of our nurses were really good.

Cody B

Nursing staff was awesome! Did their best to help. I understand security concerns but this hospital does not accommodate family. Security was extremely rude, cushioned benches in a waiting room and we were asked to get up and leave early in the morning twice very aggressively. Again this is the floors waiting room, the main purpose of the area. If they thought we were homeless people or shouldn’t have been there they should have asked if we were with a patient or what room we were associated with, not that difficult of a question but seemed like he may not have proper training on top of it. I would highly suggest using a different hospital if at all possible.

Aisha Malik

Unfortunately, my experience thus far has been anything but dissatisfying. I prefer not to share my personal experience in the OR on social media but want to ensure others are aware of how unhelpful and inconsiderate the hospital system is.

Shandia Barton

My experience was horrible! The hospital just seem to rush people in and out in the ER with no real concern. It’s like you get the most attention when you are screaming on the top of your lounges. I’m a pregnant woman that went in for two occasions because i has server pains. when I was 5 weeks, they took blood and urine then I waited for hours to see an actual nurse and I could not eat. They did An ultra sound and just said if the pains get worse come back. When I kept having them and got worse at 12 weeks I went back. i was told in triage that I would have an quick ultrasound by a doctor. They had me and my daughter wait in the ER waiting room for 4 hours. It was a lady there coughing and sneezing on everyone!! She had no mask on!! Now my daughter is sick. A lady also came to me after 4 hours and said my daughter can’t be back there for safety reasons.AFTER A NURSE PUT US IN THERE AND TOLD US TO WAIT AND IT WASNT GOING TO TAKE LONG. Again i haven’t eaten and they would not give me food after telling them I started to feel light headed and had a headache. When I finally went to a room they had us in there sharing a room with a sick man who was also cough. The man also had restrains on his legs THAT WERE TAKEN OFF!! The lead nurse wanted me to put on a gown and got upset when I refused. Why put me beside a man that’s coughing and you had to restrain him? I’m not going to be close to naked in the same room. After 5 hours of waiting I was told that unless I’m bleeding it’s no serious concern. That my urine came back fine. 5 HOURS OF WAITING!! The basically made it seem like I was over reacting. A doctor was nice enough to do an ultrasound. COME TO FIND OUT YESTERDAY I LEARNED FROM GETTING TESTED S WEEK AGO THAT I HAD AN INFECTION AND THATS WHY I WAS HAVING PAINS WAS AT RISK OF HAVING A MISCARRIAGE!! DO NOT GO TO THIS ER THEY HAVE NO REAL CONCERN AND YOUR FAMILY WILL LEAVE OUT SICK!!! What’s the point of taking my blood and urine if your not going to test me?

Arthur Williams

While most of the staff is friendly, there is no continuity between the day nurse staff and the night shift. I have been in the hospital since 3/29. Its now 3/31 and I haven't had a shower. Instead an alarm was placed on my bed so that I could not even charge my cellphone without alarms going off. The day shift said that I can wash up after my drains were removed. The night shift said had not proved to them that I can walk. I was in the ICU they got me up the day after surgery. The night nurse said perhaps they didn't follow procedure in the ICU. I hope that they read this. I was told i would be walking the halls once i was moved upstairs, instead i had a alarm placed on my bed. Even after i explained that i been through this and i should have to prove it to every nurse that comes on shift. That's not my job!

Agnes Giant

Rating my experience with OB/GYN Kylie Fowler - waited three hours past appointment then she was arrogant and rude, did not listen and did not seem to know what was going on in my chart. Barely looked at me stared at the computer. Find someone else!!!

Theresa McEaddy

My brother, last week received the most pathetic service from the Emergency Room. He was in the ER for nineteen hours and was not provided any services. He went to a different hospital and they have diagnoses him with pneumonia and TB. It is possible he was infected at their ER. For the future take pride in a job well done. Horrible service may lead to a patients death if not caught and treated.

John Kim

Total lack of concern for patient; irresponsible staff - my father had to wait over 9 hours (and still waiting) for a "simple" ultrasound test, so that he can be discharged...staff could not reach the on-call technician (what if this was a real emergency?)...those tending, doctor and head nurse, departed without closure...just went home without telling us what's going on...bottomline, totally irresponsible and just don't care about its patients. After over 12 hours, my father will finally get to go home. I would just add that not everyone's incompetent here...in fact, Gina M, the head nurse who started her shift at our 9th hour, understood our situation, and made things happen, and showed care and concern, and ownership...she was a godsend. Also, Amy, traveling nurse was very kind, but she had to work within the ridiculously mediocre system at this hospital, and really couldn't help us, but she tried.

Austin Roberts

MedStar Washington Hospital Center is one of the great hospitals in Washington city. All doctors are well trained and experienced. Hospital facilities are good and affordable for every person.

Sarah Hines

I usually go to GWU Hospital, but was brought here by ambulance with terrible abdominal pain. I had to have an ultrasound and a CT scan for this. After the ultrasound, I waited out in the hallway for 30 minutes on a stretcher in horrible pain for somebody to take me back to the ER to get to the CT scan appointment. After the CT appointment, I waited for another hour, just to have a poor, very overworked ED doctor tell me that the people responsible forgot to read my results. As it turns out, I had appendicitis and needed surgery. I will say that my doctors, main nurses, surgical team, post- and pre-op teams were great. I had Jerimiah as my first nurse, and he was absolutely fantastic with helping me get checked in and settled for what was my first surgery ever. Olivia and Tammi were also very, very patient and understanding when they worked with me and I was upset and scared over the upcoming surgery. But many of the nightshift support staff made the experience unbearable. They would yell and laugh very loudly in the hallway at midnight, our lights were not turned off until after midnight, I had my request to use the restroom or get pain meds cancelled multiple times with no answer from them, would have to call the nurse on staff and would be told somebody was coming, just to have to wait 15 more minutes for nobody to show up and have to call again. I was recovering from my first major surgery ever at 33, was very scared, in more pain than I have ever been in, and for the first time since I can ever remember, was completely incapable of doing something so simple for myself as use the bathroom. To be treated like this at such a time left me livid and angry at the hospital, even with the great care from others. I felt like half of the staff could not be bothered to understand that, no matter how stressful their night is, it's probably nowhere near as stressful as the BEST case patient admitted to a surgery and burn ward. The only way I will ever come back to this hospital is if I am too unresponsive to insist the ambulance driver take me to GWU or Sibley. I used to think people who say things like that were ridiculous, but after how awful my experience was, I totally understand it now.

Vanessa Robinson

One of the worst ER experiences I've ever had. I arrived at 1:50 pm. Was registered within 1/2 hr. The triage nurse was courteous and efficient. The blood tech was chatty but efficient. That's where my applause ends. I waited and waited and waited to be seen by a doctor. Finally I heard someone call my name. Got up to follow whoever it was. They just disappeared. I was just standing there in the middle of a sea of EMT folk, patients all over the place and staff running everywhere. Finally a nice young lady did TRY to check with a nurse Rayna (not sure of name) for a room for me. The room never came. This ER is too small for the amount of patients it serves. I finally gave up and left. Sick, tired and all. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!

Kana Nagato

My daughter was born here. Very nice doctors and nurses, and very good service. Parking rate is 5 per hour. The charge is expensive.

Moñito M

I been here with my father the last 46 days he was in critical icu the team there was incredible good they treated my father and support myself good was the first best experience. The second best experience was in intermediate icu where my father was trasfered couple days later and the staff was extremely helpful Helen and others nurses they are hard workers and very sweet, suppported with the family. Now unit 2f stroke trauma, were my headache started. Why some people here look like have no experience or sense of what they are doing how to explain this thing because my experience here was bad that I had no words to said what I want to. My first Case Manager terrible, nurses they are good some time have to much to do to be and stroke unit because patients technician are to slow some of them and they are to hard with the patient they force the patient to do things in the hard way like abuse of them, I think that they have to change that behavior and be more positive, passionate about what they do and treat them well and sweet and take the time with them not do everything like whatever how some of them seams to do, expenses more time with the patient and less time talking in the nurses station making jukes. To be continue.....

I had a rude experience with Yolanda from medical records. I work for another hospital in the area. The reason I was calling was because we sent an authorization to release records form to the 2 days ago and still didn't get a response. I was told by the doctor to call them to follow up on the situation. I called and had to go through 3 voicemails telling me the same message...continuously, for about 3 minutes. When i finally got to a person who worked in that department, I politely told them my name, title, and what hospital I was calling from and told her my situation (mind you I had to stop her from interrupting me several times when I told her my situation.). She continued to ask me for the information I faxed to her and I complied. She told me that I should get the request "soon". I told her that I needed a time because the intensivist would need to know. She let out an annoyed sigh and told me 2:30...It is now past 2:30 (2:48 to be exact) and there are no records. This is an issue on a customer service level and a safety level. Customer service level because if she acting this way to another hospital I can only imagine how she treats the patients at the hospital trying to obtain their information. Safety level because she delaying a patients care because she can't do fax the records, will not fax the records or just does not want to fax the records. I obtained her managers phone number but I'm pretty sure she gave me the wrong number. Since I can't reach anyone I have decided to put it here.

This Hospital is the WORSE HOSPITAL That I've EVER Been to in my Life... I REALLY HATE THIS PLACE

YT_oree&jakaya

Afia M.

Waited 13 hours in a hallway for inconclusive lab results and no doctor to be found. Finally had to take the risk and just leave.

Last year I was very sick with the cause unknown. I was transferred from another hospital to the care of DR. Mark Steves who by all accounts is an amazing human being and a skilled surgical oncologist. The fact that I am here and is a testament to his skill as I had a very long complicated procedure to remove a tumor from my pancreas. All I know is that DR Steves and his team kept my family informed and he cared for me all the way through even after I was discharged. I am thankful and eternally grateful. Oh and the nurses are really caring and well trained. Late nights can be a bit scary in the hospital but that’s everywhere. If you need specialty care you can’t go wrong here.

Mary Krug

Taken there for heart surgery. Please help shut this hospital down! I am 60 years old. Have been in hospitals all over the US. I COULD NEVER LIST ALL OF THE NEGATIVE ASPECTS.

I delivered my son at Washington Hospital Center on 8/18/17, Tiyachae was my nurse and she was AMAZING!!! so sweet and caring especially dealing with someone in labor, she came so quick any time i paged! She was able to keep me calm despite my annoying family. She made all of us comfortable the entire 32 hours I was in labor(the part that was her shift) & Megan( in labor and delivery) came in after and was AWESOME! After my labor she made me comfortable although no rooms were available on the maternity side she constantly checked on me until I was able to transfer. The transition was smooth and easy, Megan on the maternity side helped me and made sure i was able to get back and forth to the NICU to see my son as well as help with my recovery

The staff worked with professionalism the psychiatrist unit is thrash there they make you wait 9 hours give my son medication to tranquilize him and he sleep for a few hours the on call psychiatrist wasn't physically there no intervention for a young man having a crisis of psychosis behaviors nothing important unless he is aggressive towards other I'm very disappointed with the service of attention for mental disorders. I am never going her again

Had an amazing experience in their ER. With all the chaos that a DC hospital brings I took myself in for kidney stones. The exam rooms were packed so I say in a chair between two rooms in front of the emergency room staff doctors and nurses. I observed for 8 hours nothing but professional people who cares for each patient. My nurse, Natalie was amazing. I watched one doctor talk to his patients with care and understanding like he had nothing else to do. Best bed side manner ever. The place gets 10 stars in my opinion.

I've been calling cardio oncology all week to try to set up an appointment. They don't answer the phone, then I got the switchboard to reach a human where I left yet another message, but I still have not had a return call. It is so odd, given the nature of cardiology issues. The explanation I received was they'd had a busy clinic day the day before. That doesn't explain why you don't have someone answering Dept calls during clinic, nor answering messages for an entire week. I'm afraid this doesn't bode well for the quality of care.

Carolyn Polite

It was the most healthy and professional experience ever.

Gina Mitchell

Awful at return calls from doctors and their emergency call system. They dont call you back, which is unacceptable. I have never seen such a poorly managed system, especially given its ratings.

Nasly Sierra

Nice Staff, helpful, friendly but someone could be dying and they don't get to you right away. My husband had to wait for 1 hour after pressing the nurse button so many times for someone to actually come. A good thing about this hospital is they have a Panera on the 1st floor if you're a Panera fan.

Christopher White

Been waiting in the emergency room going on 6 hours. A nurse took pity on me and helped me out and I really appreciated it. They work hard here and the emergency room can get overwhelmed quickly, so be prepared to wait.

Shandha Louis

Terrible! Filthy and unacceptable. This hospital is below standard in every way, the bed side manner is the poorest I’ve seen from their nurses. Avoid this hospital.

Teresa Frye

Emergency room has the worst response I have ever experienced. The nurses bring you in & leave you. No greating/acknowledgement from nurses or doctors. Patience lined up against the walls on beds waiting. Waited over 2 hours for assistance with my mom. Parking is terrible. Was threatened to be towed & ticketed while I was just trying to get my mom dropped off & checked in.

Yolanda Johnson

Have only been to the ER and both times received less than satisfactory. It was actually pretty humiliating.

Kendra Kent

I HATE this hospital! If you going to a hospital for just a simple procedure don’t come here. You will be here for 8 hours and still no service

I voluntarily admitted myself to MedStar Washington because I was suicidal. While waiting for a bed to become available, I became extremely anxious from the hospital's chaotic environment. The anxiety greatly outweighed the suicidal ideation, and I just wanted to go home. I asked the staff if I could be discharged. They looked at me, laughed, and went back to standing around and chatting among themselves. I started crying and asked if someone could please help me. This time, the staff completely ignored me. They also ignored the cries of the two other patients waiting for beds, both of whom were displaying signs of psychosis. The three of us were clearly distressed, but the staff refused to speak to us or try to calm us. After five hours in the waiting room, two staff members plopped me into a wheelchair and wheeled me away with no explanation. Exhausted and still crying, I asked where they were taking me; again, I was ignored. I pleaded with them to please just give me some sort of information, but they refused, snickering to one another all the while. It was almost sadistic. Turns out they were taking me to do my intake processing, which lasted for another couple of hours. I didn't get to a bed until after 4am, and then was forced by staff to wake up at 7am. (Being sleep-deprived definitely isn't going to help someone who is already experiencing a mental health crisis.) That morning, I begged the hospital psychiatrist to call my own psychiatrist, and my psychiatrist successfully persuaded him to release me immediately. After I was discharged, I literally sprinted from the hospital to the bus stop. I had never been so relieved to leave a place in my life. I later learned that once a patient has been admitted for suicidal ideation (even voluntarily), they cannot be discharged just because they ask to leave. And I understand that. But the staff didn't explain that to me at they time, and they showed my fellow patients and I no compassion whatsoever. They acted like we were completely unworthy of their time and help. People with mental illness are still people. We should be treated with dignity. TL;DR: MedStar Washington has absolutely no compassion for their mental health patients. Their staff is beyond unprofessional - they are cruel.

I had the most horrifying experience ever! I have always been a fan of WHC but absolutely not this time. I called my doctor having having some symptoms of infections after surgery, who told me to go to the ED. Well I went and had to stand up because I couldn't sit down for an hour. Then to go in the back where they put a line in and stuck me twice. After that, the ED worked diligently to get my pain under control along with the other symptoms. I went up to 3F and had the most horrifying experience! The nurse never came into check on me let alone my IV line, which she was putting meds in the whole time (only when I called her). They kept telling me they were waiting on the my doctor to discharge me but when I called to his office he already put plans to discharge me. They took the foley out gave me some meds and then came back with 2 vials and mixed them together then stuck me in the shoulder as I screamed "it hurts", "stopped now". She took the needle out and I cried for 20 min and told them to get my papers together because I was leaving. The resident nurse called an hour after I left, to ask if I were coming back.

Trying to obtain medical records back from 2015 for emergency cardiac surgery Patients Primary care Dr had Patient sign consent form 2x and they faxed it 2x to the hospital No response This is unexceptiable and is a danger to the patients care going forward

Jude Ghazaleh

Been here 6 hours waiting for my GF to come out of the emergency room. This place is a horribly managed mess. What a shame.

Greg Hein

I was referred here from another medstar facility. The original facility called to alert them I was heading to the ER for more testing. When I arrived the waiting room was packed. I mean PACKED. It was standing room only. Literally. While waiting to check in the person in front of me carrying a large bag said he needed psychiatric help because he wanted to kill people. The check in desk was arguing with this person in a very confrontational way about insurance, needing more info (what else could possibly be needed in that situation??), and made no attempt to deescalate. During my check in he asked for name and my social which I supplied. He then asked "what's wrong with you?". I told him I was referred for additional testing and that the doctor called 20 minutes ago and everything should be in the system. He actually rolled his eyes and again asked what's wrong. I told him I'm done and walked out to go to another location to get the testing and diagnosis I needed. Go anywhere else. Like, literally, go anywhere else if you want to be treated like a person. Nevermind a person who needs medical attention. I've had better experiences at the DMV. Edit: The very obviously boilerplate response to all responses makes it pretty clear just how much they care. The responses don't attempt to address the issue raised. They are meant to make people think they care which, for me, is worse than just remaining silent.

I believe this hospital violated my civil, human, legal and patient rights. I believe multiple members of their staff are incompetent and unethical. I would only go here again if I was taken unconscious in an ambulance. I have already sent correspondence to their patient advocacy department and they responded. I don’t think they officially admitted wrongdoing but they expressed regret of sorts regarding my experience. They also claim they instructed their staff about proper procedures and told them that they should not be using their cell phones while working. they would be contacting me soon. I’m not sure why they bothered. Maybe it was out of something like a human feeling of guilt or empathy but I don’t believe this corporation is capable of either of those things. I made it clear in my letter to them that there was nothing they could do to undo the harm they did to me. If I could give a facility ZERO stars, I would give zero stars to this one.

Jeremy Peppler

Doctors, nurses, and technicians vary from adequate to superb. Administrative folks, the people that do scheduling, the billing office, all of those support functions are staffed by the absolute dregs of humanity. I am talking about the laziest, most incompetent people you have every met. It is absurd the level of ignorance and idiocy that exists at this facility. You'd be better off seeking assistance from a dog, at least a dog would show empathy.

. I came into the main entrance but needed to go to the Neuroscience Center on the ground floor in an annex for an appointment. Although I got directions, i was totally confused and got lost within 3 minutes. I asked for help to find the correct elevator from a woman who was wearing a hospital ID. She didn't just take me to the elevator, but went with me through all the twists and turns of the building all the way to my destination! (Nearly a 10 minute walk) I kept saying I'd find the way, but she quietly insisted on walking with me. Many other employees greeted her along the way as "Pat." Thank God for ""Pat" who brightened my day with her kindness!

If you are uninsured, please do not go there. I got sick while I was between jobs and had to go to the emergency room at Washington Hospital Center. I have to admit the wait wasn't long, but as soon as I was taken back to triage, the craziness started to unravel. The nurses and techs took care of me and then a screen was wheeled in with a virtual doctor on the screen. She asked me the exact same questions that the front desk, nurses and techs asked. Next, I was sent for x-rays and blood work. It took approximately 4 hours for an actual/physical doctor to come in and tell me I was stressed. My blood pressure was elevated, I had a severe cough that I had had for 2 weeks, felt lightheaded and very fatigued. I was told they could do nothing for me and I left the ER with no medication, only advice to make an appointment with an outside physician to get my blood pressure under control. The symptoms continued and then finally, a few days after my visit to Washington Hospital Center ER, I was forced to go to an Urgent Care Center a friend suggested. I went there, paid $245; they treated my blood pressure and also told me that I had pneumonia, I was prescribed antibiotics. Go figure. My ER cost from Washington Hospital Center, who did nothing for me, cost $4K; technically $1,000 an hour. Medicine is a business; it no longer has anything to do with patient care. It's really a shame when a small healthcare franchise can best the prestigious Medstar Health.

Abdul Zikria

One of the worst hospital in Washington DC metropolitan area. I had never experienced such bad level of care and incompetence in my life. Please don't take your loved one to this hospital.

Julie Trute

Worst experience EVER. Was "next" for three hours - with appendicitis. Watched almost everyone get treated first - while my appendix could have burst. Staff was incredibly rude and extremely dismissive. I had to ask multiple times when I was next - only to be treated with disrespect and attitude. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I went to another hospital for emergency surgery because I waited and waited and waited. DO NOT GO. Avoid avoid avoid!

M Reaves

Old facility that I hope I never have to visit as a patient. Typical big city hospital that deals more with volume than high quality care. Doctors have too many patients to efficiently manage.

Trudy Hazelton

The service was excellent they gave me all the attention and care I needed, the staff and the doctors cared for me in a timely manner they got me in got and out in a timely manner. Excellent service. Happy with my experience at Washington Hospital Center every time.

Joan Coye

Their website said they had a "Call Ahead" program wherein they call you 30 min prior to the time you make an "appointment". After being on hold in excess of 10 min, a mildly rude young lady informed me that "We don't do that. This is an urgent care clinic". She said she knew what it said on the website, but "we don't do that". When I inquired further, she begrudgingly took my name and requested time but let me know they would NOT be calling me (per the program) as they were an urgent care clinic. Duh. Needless to say, I will NOT be going there.

Mark Overbey

I've been trying to make a very serious and necessary appointment now for two days and all I seem to be getting is the run around. The patient advocacy group only seem to want the hospital's image, instead of me the needing patient. They just make excuses for the hospital with no further assistance to help me make that very needed appointment. And guess what, there is no telephone number to the executive officer or his/her staff for help. Go figure!

Shamika Leak

The hospital is great. The ER (emergency room) staff are great at least the ones that I've came into contact w/over the years.

Sensation Coleman

Exceptional service!!! I've been treated so well with patience. The hospital treats you like family. My doctor came at the same time everyday (including weekend) I was informed about everything from meds to the status of my condition thoroughly. It was refreshing. And now I'm well and have a plan for my next steps.

Jennifer JJ

One of the best hospitals in the Country. Their cardiac division saved my life. The surgeons are the most experienced and professional. The entire employee body from nursing staff technical are team players . I am truly thankful/blessed

Hayleigh Sargent

Worst hospital in dc!!!!! DO NOT HAVE YOUR BABY HERE IF YOU WANT A GOOD EXPERIENCE....

Bairo Pite

I've been to the ER, the place is a homeless shelter, the wait time for patients with emergencies is about 4 hours or more! I asked the lady at the registration if they have enough doctors for all those people, she said we have 4 and we should be okay (lies) I asked her to give me an email to the patient advocacy and she refused! Not to mention the parking disaster, it's designed a mile away and you have to pay! you can find parking for everyone else near the ER but not for people with emergencies!! The nurse didn't even bother to ask my gf if she had something in her stomach before putting the ibuprofen 800 mg in her mouth! What kind of poor profession are you running??? I can go on but I'm tired now after that abusive visit to that abusive place.

Vanesa Benitez

They take so long at emergency room, we came in because my dAd fell and they literally took almost 2 hours just to see him! He had a iG injury in his head and I can’t believe he had to wait for 2 damn hours just to get check, and all I see is people walking around joking around but they are t moving fast with the patients
