Brought my elderly mother in for emergency room on Wednesday 12am and the place was desolate. After waiting 8 hours she was admitted into a hospital room with no definite diagnosis. I took the day off and waited all day with her throughout medications and conflicting stories she was encouraged to remain in hospital as her life depended on it. Supposedly specialist came in on Thursday morning and said that she is fine but needs to stay in hospital at all costs. I’m listed plan as day on board as emergency contact yet nobody even contacted me to tell me that she released herself from hospital against their recommendations. Mind you she doesn’t even drive and it’s 11am and I get off at 7pm. All I’m waiting for is a $10000 bill right?

The Staff at the front of the ER Desk are good but the nurses that check you in are very rude and very uncaring I had two trips to this Hospital in a row my left arm is in pain with a pulsing pain my GERD is not going away I came here for help and on my second visit a rude nurse treats me like an unwanted Dog didn't even bother to take the blood pressure strap off and slams the door on her way out of the Room telling me not to get in to the patient robe basically telling me not to get to comfortable and I don't Give a dam about your problem attitude I just live down the road from this hospital almost my life 33 years I've been here in the Fort HUNT community I've always paid my taxes years I've always had my own insurance though a company I've worked for just in the last 4.5 years I've been working Uber and now when I need to be seen I'm treated like a trash Doctor's and nurses behind house are great and very caring just not the ones who check your blood pressure and check you into a room I may just drive a little bit more to Fairfax Hospital they have taken care of many of my family members in the area on my Father's side of the family

Andrea Mickney LIED to me. I wouldnt have come here. She clearly said WITH a witness to back me up, that i could receive ON-Q . Once arrived Dr. And all of staff said i could not recieve ON-Q. This women should be fired in my opinion because now I am pretty much stuck at a hospital without the capability to treat my pain.. I made it very clear to Andrea that my situation cannot be controlled through narcotics because of my past with narcotics. I have woken up through 2 surgeries. And the pain in ny broken femur is only getting worse. Dr. Kim hasnt given me a better alternative for pain management. I hope no one else gets stuck here alone and in pain like I am. Do Not Come Here

Currently at Inova Mount Vernon with my aunt who is here for the 2nd time for extreme abdominal pain and vomiting. She has been moved from the ER to a room. I told the nurse she is really thirsty, has a dry mouth and asked if she can get water. She can't give it to her until the doctor puts in an order to see if she can have it (understandable). She's been in the room since a little before 9am, it is currently 11am (2 hrs later). From the vomiting, she is probably dehydrated and that's why she is so thirsty and has dry a dry mouth (I'm not a nurse/doctor) but she is YET to have an IV put in, is not allowed to have water, and no doctor has put an order or shown up. The nurse can't do anything until orders are put in so it is not her fault. She has called the doctor, we were told the DR has a lot of patients and that weekends are busy...

My 85 years old mom was traumatized on Nov 18, 2018 by EMT Brenna in the emergency room. My mom has very small veins so, they were unable to draw blood and/or insert a catheter. So, they decided to use ultrasound to locate a vein. Well, this is when all hell breaks loose. Ms. Brenna decides to stick one of the larger needles into my mom's arm searching for a vein while my mom is screaming, crying and kicking in excruciating pain, begging "Ms. Brenna" to remove the needle. Brenna ignored her screams and also ignored my REQUEST to STOP the procedure and continued on for several more seconds (it hurt me to my core). Please request that they numb the arm (as was done for my sister) before this procedure is done, it was TORTURE!!!

I HIGHLY DON'T RECOMMEND COMING HERE. I WILL NEVER RETURN HERE. I have two review about this hospital and I haven't return ever since. My brother was admitted here when he was 6 months since he has muscle was turning black around his eyes. At first it was light purple to black the night we went, and they found nothing in his blood and thought it was allergic reaction to milk. My mother knew something bite my brother eye like insect. She beg for more test but they couldn't do anything else. They were discharged that night. My mother in her heart believe it wasn't that. We went to pediatric first thing in the morning and his skin was completely black around his eyes. Immediately our pediatric call 911 and told my mother that he shouldn't been discharged and this was serious. My mother ask if we could go to Fairfax. Fairfax Hospital save his life. He was in the hospital for 3 months. He had infection in his blood and the test clearly show high white blood count and low red blood count. My rating was in 2012. I was having lower back pain for two week than it quick came around the side. I thought it was because I was doing sport. I was doing cheerleading and gymnastic. Then I couldn't go to the bathroom, and my pain grew strong by the day. One day, July 27, I woke up in pain like a truck hit me. I couldn't move and crying in pain. My mother was out of town and my father was working. So my brother babysitter took me to the hospital. Here where it get really bad. They say I couldn't be admitted without my parents consent. I could barely move that they had carry me in. So I had to wait, they got me in after 30 mins. I was crying out of pain and was feeling numb. It took two hour before a doctor and nurse can see me. they took urine and blood test and clearly they say it was normal. I kept telling them that the meds they were giving me didn't help and crying. They diagnosis me with UTI. and Send me home. It took 6 hour for that and send me home with meds. They say they didn't have time to do Cat Scan or X-ray to see my internal organs. So I stop fighting with them and went home. I didn't take the meds they give me so I know it wasn''t that. The next day, I was vomiting blood and couldn't move. My mother took me to Fairfax Hospital, and the emergency room got me in quick since I vomit blood. The doctor and nurse came quick and diagnosis me with Rupture Appendix. They were wondering why they diagnosis me with UTI. When clearly my blood test had high white blood count and no sign of UTI. They say it's good thing you came to us today or you would have die. NEVER AGAIN I GO TO MOUNT VERNON I NEVER WILL GO TO MOUNT VERNON HOSPITAL AGAIN. I COULD OF DIE. EVEN MY BROTHER. THEY DON'T CARE AT ALL. I HAD MISS MY SPORT FOR HIGH SCHOOL SINCE I WAS IN TREATMENT FOR 2 MONTHS. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED.

Had total knee replacement surgery on Tuesday. I am so impressed with the hospital and it's excellent staff. From the presurgery intake the week prior to the actual surgery and overnight stay the entire staff is of the highest caliber of professionals in there appropriate fields. But the nursing staff impressed me the most. They anticipated my every need and we went out of their way to accommodate me. I will be back for any further hospital stays in the future.

I COULD HAVE DIED! I was taken by ambulance to this emergency room. This hospital had a friendly staff, very nice people. HOWEVER, I COULD HAVE DIED as a result of their missed diagnosis. I told them all of my symptoms and they checked my blood and urine and sent me home with medicine to treat a stomach bug. After several hours of gradually getting worse I went to another hospital, who conducted a simple 5-minute scan and figured out that my appendix was about to burst. They immediately admitted me and scheduled me for an emergency appendectomy. Had I followed the instructions given to me by Mount Vernon I COULD HAVE DIED! Lucky for me I have a persistent wife who always seeks second opinions, and insisted that I go to another hospital. Not only will I avoid this hospital at all costs, my family and I will soon be moving closer to the other hospital (I NOVA Fair Oaks) that provided me with knowledgeable and immediate care that saved my life. Did I mention that Mount Vernon has a nice staff?

Many thanks to the wonderful nursing staff on the fourth floor. I was here for a week and they took great care of me.

so my uncle got transferred to this hospital on floor 5th because he had a stroke and he is still in bad shape..... i was standing there at the front desk for a long time and the nurses where just talking to each other, they all saw Me but took their sweet Time to ask me if i needed help, and then some nurse came in to check on him and honestly, i had been working all day and i didn't know much of my uncles diet, and they asked if he was drinking regular water or thick " water, I didn't know, so I asked my mother in Spanish (she doesn't know English) and other family members were in the room and the so call nurse got so upset and said I need to know from him and said she couldn't take it, she only speaks English not Spanish " and stepped out of the room. I was asking my mom because she had been with him all day, and she knows better. but the nurse was just really rude. my family was shocked

elijah kyle

They have the worst service they are very slow and we have been seating in the emergency room for 2 hrs and my sister throat was hurting her so badly and they taking forever to find her a room . What kind of hospital is this that it take forever to have room for a sick person .

Axel Robertson

I have to go to the ER all the time because I have MS. This is the hospital that I always choose. Doctors and nurses are great. They don't leave your side until they have performed all tests and when they have made you feel better. The deducted star is because sometimes they will take their time to see you

Alice Kane

Inept staff and doctors. Only a couple of doctors and nurses on staff truly care enough about their patients to clean them when they are paralyzed and cannot care for themselves

Sanja Mircetic

They are horrible at scheduling. And call you back to cancel your appointment multiple times because I guess they can't figure out to schedule tests properly. Be warned of you are sick and need a test done go elsewhere.

Where do I begin???? Everything with INOVA healthcare was the absolute worst medical experience ever. It started with Inova in Lorton when i sat in an triage room for 90 mins without seeing a doctor until i finally decided to leave and i cant forget to mention that the nurse didnt even know what PEP was and it is listed on the website. Then i went to MtVenon where is was a little better the doctor never came to see me but at least the nurses got me fully tested for everything under the sun when i asked for a specific treatment so i'm looking forward to the bill. This was 2 weeks ago no one called with my results i have been calling the emergency room to get them but they are always extremely busy no matter the time of day for some reason (I forgot to mention i am an expat so all these calls are long distance) mychart does not work so i cant log on there. Basically i am going to pay about 2k for nothing US healthcare is bad in general but man INOVA you take the cake. 5 stars for being the worst i have experienced.

Nathan Williams

Truly horrendous experience with billing. Well over $2,000 for a couple of simple diagnosis that urgent care wouldn't accommodate so I had to go to the ER. Billing was confusing-I received multiple notices with varying amounts over a several week period. Long story short I went to pay off both in full and when I expressed my shock at both the cost and the way they did the billing I was told I could have gone to Urgent Care. (Except urgent care sent me to the E.R). However, I will absolutely take her advice and I certainly won't be utilizing INOVA Mount Vernon or any other INOVA system branch or location.

Most of the staff are genuinely great people that care about their patients. Having spent over 3 weeks at the hospital for a family member, I am grateful for all of the amazing nurses and doctors I came in contact with. Big shout out to the awsome ICU staff that took their time to answer all of my questions. Having everything explained in detail and going through the effort to inform me of all the technicalities was conforming and I got to learn a whole lot in the process. Thanks again staff!

Scott Peters

I won't take my sick dog to this hospital if his life was on the line! The doctors are few and far between. If you do see one make sure you ask every question you possibly can think of. Hope and pray your not there for any amount of time and you don't get assigned a nurse with the last name Henok. That guy is worthless and he can leave his rude comments at the door. You've been warned!!!! If at all possible go anywhere but here.

Randy Dellinger

The folks in the Wound healing center are terrific. I was a patient with a foot problem that was difficult to treat. Between Dr.Yoon and the surgery department they got me back into good shape. Thanks so much.

This has been probably the worse hospital experience ever. Imagine your kid bleeding from his head for 1 hr and half and when they finally do attend you they have you wait another hour for the Doctors. Im not saying my kid comes first or attend him the second he comes in but whats the point of coming directly to an emergency room? For that I should have made a doctors appointment the following day if I knew I would have to wait for my kid to be treated. I was very disappointed today & for future emergencies I will be driving the extra miles to Fairfax Hospital which is 20/25min away which defeats the purpose of having a hospital with an emergency room thats only 10 min away from my house.

Christina Tayman

I took my 7 year old daughter today because she was having difficulty breathing. She was triaged and placed in a room quickly which was great. We then proceeded to wait 40-45 minutes to be seen by someone. They nurses were more concerned with their conversations about their vacation and schedule. At one point a nurse walked by and said 'Oh I didn't know we had people on this side'. Needless to say I was extremely frustrated and called her primary and took her there immediately. The lack of urgency was rediculous. Not one person cared that a little girl was panicking and struggling to get a full breath. I left a message after leaving with the Nurse Manager and still have yet to hear back. Mount Vernon is 1 mile from my home. This is not the first time I have had an issue with Mount Vernon but it will certainly be the last! A new multi million dollar ER for the community and the lack of care and compassion is lost.

In and out. 45 min Very professional. My 8 month old had a terrible cough and asthma.

Alvin Daniels

09/18/17. 1:45 minutes and counting! No sense of urgency! Been here over three hours and when I leave they will make me pay $100 entry fee. They should have paid me $500 for to this nightmare. Daughter getting a breathing treatment transport stop the breathing treatment 5 minutes in cleaner cleans room throws away breathing treatment apparatus doctor had to order another and start over .SMH TRUE PROFESSIONALS!

They call Mount Vernon the "slaughter house" because you don't want to go there for anything more than broken bones. Anything more serious then I would advise you to go elsewhere.

Worst hospital I have ever seen. Bunch of lazy people just wasting your time. They deserve lower than 1 in rating. You have to wait at least an hour to see a nurse. Then I left without receiving any services because my son was hot like lava and coughing. I had to buy over the counter medicines. Good for nothing.

I have visited twice since October 2016, they put me in an emergency room each times for 5 - 6 hours to be seen by someone. Then they charged me a lot of money for bed in the emergency room. First time I just needed to take a digital picture of my wrist and that's it, but they kept me long hours in emergency room. I really shocked when I saw the amount for emergency room.

My mother in law was in observation after a emergency room visit due to falls and confusion. Mt Vernon let her out after three days stating there was nothing wrong with her. After taking her to another hospital (VHC) directly after discharge she was diagnosed with fluid on the lungs, a UTI, dehydration and still confused. Wow is all I have to say...poor case management who is the discharge gods and even her nurse said there is something still wrong with her. They were more worried about medicare paying for things other than her care and well-being. The Dr hung up on my husband stating she was fine. NOT! We were not given updates as requested and she was not well at all at time if discharge! Do not go to 6th floor B as you will get a toe tag and you walked in there with an issue but told you were fine. If staff does not like thier jobs...they need to find another!!

It's pretty good. It's busy, don't get me wrong. But...what can you expect, it's a frikon hospital. For the most part I like this place. Dr's are contracted (so if you didn't like the rudeness of the Dr....you should review HIM rather than the hospital). Hospitals are a facility where you should rate based on basic service (especially with reception and nursing staff), ease of administering meds (let's face it, some hospitals are the blind leading the blind) and understanding EVERYONE'S role. I used to be much more critical of ER's and Hospitals but once I started working in the industry, I realized that hospitals are really the facility that calls all of these local Dr's to come in from their private practice based on your care. Even an ER Dr may be working there 1 day per week. Nurses work there, true...but there are bad nurses and good nurses. Too many times we expect bedside manner to be part of our experience when we're sick, but we should also understand the logistics of medical care a little bit more. I get it if you were misdiagnosed, if you were sent away and swear something was more than what they thought..those are all warranted. But long waits, being dismissed a bit...that's just part of the culture in a hospital.

Beautiful hospital with caring people. We spent over three weeks here, in two different departments. They were some very dark and difficult times. We found the doctors and nurses to be very compassionate and caring. All of the staff were really wonderful. Up until Mount Vernon, we had spent extended time in four other local hospitals this year, trying to get help. We found Mount Vernon to be not only a nice place with wonderful people, but it was the place where our loved one was healed.

Shawn Lopez

Experienced the good and bad with hospitals. Rampant miscommunication between departments and doctors, untimely communication from doctors to patients, improper handling of catheters breaking infection protocols, requesting harmful contrast to a dialysis patient that shouldnt be getting contrast, losing patient medical records and not following proper filing protocol, missing dinner trays, trying to administer wrong medications because of patient mixups, confusion over "scheduled" appointments that were never scheduled or assigned to the wrong patient, not administering medications on schedule. I have experienced or witnessed all of this in a span of less than one week. Now for the plus, the staff was very nice and well-meaning. However, I don't think the system here sets them up for success in all cases. That being said, I would oversee everything anyone does to you while you are in the hospital or have a family member follow along closely to prevent careless wrongdoing.

MICHAEL Donnally

With all of the Metaphysical Ai injuries at this Hospital you would think Langley would invest or at least investigate why the Drs are not disclosing this to local authorities. "Medical (PRACTICE)"

This hospital is bittersweet. Please do not go to this emergency room for anything extremely detrimental to your health. The ER was like a ghost town. There was a lot of miscommunication and no sense of urgency. It is similar to a urgent care. The ER staff didn’t become helpful until I requested to be transferred to another hospital. The building is beautiful and the food was amazing but that was the only good part about the experience. The employees do not communicate at all and obviously need customer service training. There were some employees that were amazing and extremely helpful and then there were some that could care less until you became belligerent and irate. This was the most uneasy experience I’ve ever had at a hospital and will not return.

This hospital was absolutely horrible my clothes were stolen along with my money from my wallet! I had no privacy whatsoever! the roommate I had was loud the nurses didn’t care that I was suffering from migraines, I waited 3 hours for water. I was still feeling sick when I went home I told the nurses I was better just so that I would be able to go home, doctor didn’t come to check on me until dinner time!!bottom save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere

I was at Mount Vernon Hospital in December of 2017 for a Mammogram. I was back to Mount Vernon Hospital in June 2018 for a MRI. Everybody I came in contact with were very professional, nice, with a smile on there face. I was sent back today for follow up MRI and I felt like I was in another hospital. The way that the people did things and the way they acted and the way they talked to me really stunk this time. I was rushed, no one checked on me while I was in the MRI. They were VERY unprofessional and acted like I was inconveniencing them. I guess i should try to make my next appointment earlier so i dont keep people there when they are trying to leave for the day.

Latarsha Cheeks-Lucas

Definitely one of the best hospitals.

I went to the hospital Emergency Room and was really impressed with the speed, friendliness, and concern the staff had.

I can't imagine anyone wanting to go to the hospital, but the staff at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital made the visit as pain-free as possible. I took my wife in for outpatient services and was greeted with respect and smiles. The wait was short and the check in went well. The facility is reportedly 40 years old, but it is well maintained and kept very clean. Lots of parking in the parking lot and a generally cheery atmosphere, all things considered. Special thanks to Carlos, who escorted us from the blue door to the yellow door, and Greta who checked us in with professional courtesy and know-how!!

Worst hospital ever. Especially the ER, I brought my grandfather once they made him wait almost an hour. His appendix erupted, if they would have seen him on time, he could have avoid infection.

Samanta Aby

I visited Inova ER for complications from an accident one and a half years ago. I had to wait over two hours to be seen by a doctor. The doctor was rude and unprofessional. I still paid all the bills they sent me for the poor service I received. Now they are sending me a bill that I have already paid and asking me to pay again. I provided them with proof that I have paid it, but it looks like they don't care. They constantly keep threatening me that if I don't pay the bill (the second time) they will send my account to collection which will ruin my credit. I don't know where should I go or who should I call to get this resolved.

Patrick Iverson

Don't go to this emergency room if you would like to be seen. The only way we ever even had a nurse visit is when I said we were leaving.

I went to ER and the Dr and nurses helped me so much, although they were very busy they really took care of me. I got admitted to the hospital and I cannot say thank you enough to all the nurses and Drs that took care of me. From the moment I got transfer to my room, there was always 1 or more nurses helping me. There was a shift change but at least one of the nurses stayed after her shift to help me. They helped me to stay calm and give me support. The nurse in charge and the nurse assigned to my room where by far the best ever, thank you ladies. And thank you to everyone that somehow took care of me. Thank you thank you. Thank you

So, a real mixed experience. Pros: My Dad was admitted via the ER. The ER visit was good, professional, and efficient. The nurses on the floor he was roomed were knowledgeable, professional, kind, and helpful. Mt. Vernon offers a good selection of food on their menu. Cons: While they did do a good job addressing the initial health issue, he developed significant abdominal pain when sitting up. A CT was ordered and was inconclusive; the doc wanted to release him. I said no, with the significant pain they needed to find out what it was before discharge. Next, my Dad is a diabetic and most often he was given a high carb food tray. Why? I told the nurses and the food service department that they need to make notes if a patient is on a specific diet and ensure the proper food is given; I was told they do. One meal they had for him was a grilled cheese sandwich and french fries. NO! Today, it was a large plate of spaghetti and chocolate chip cookies??!! Well, his blood sugar numbers were too high for him to be discharged today. Do you think it's because of the food your giving him? Please fix this.

I had a hip replacement yesterday (4/10/19) and I have to say it was the best health care experience I’ve ever had. It was done by Dr Mcasey from the Anderson clinic and today my hip feels incredible, the best it’s felt in 3 months. This was my third trip here (consultation, pre-op, surgery) and I was treated amazingly by each and every staff member. I went in to this journey expecting the worse and came out shocked by the overwhelming support and dedication of the people involved. I would highly recommend Inova Mt Vernon- Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic for your orthopaedic needs.

We all know hospital stays are never pleasant however, there are certain comforts that are needed to take the edge off for example television! For two days there was no access to TV and no one tell the patients why.I find this amazing and bordering on abusive to a patient's mental health. In addition the units are dirty looking and run down. Many of the nurses and "techs" are very nice but are first year nurses which tells me this hospital is trying to save money.I think their cable TV service was cuff for non payment-oh one more thing,no WiFi either.

John Smith

What kind of hospital doesn't have working wifi? Tried on my phone and laptop and it didn't work. Asked a few of the nurses and apparently it's a common issue.

Kathleen warunek

After straining my back almost a week ago, the pain traveled from my hip area to my groin. I had enough. I chose to go to the Inova Mt Vernon facility. The staff from the front desk to the the doctor, nurses and the CT tech were all professional and courteous. I was in and out in under 3 hours with my pain under control. Thank you to everyone that helped me!!! I highly recommend this ER facility!

Ben Lesser

Generally my experience was satisfactory, with a caring and skilled pre-OP nurse, anesthesiologist and gastroenterologist. However, communication procedures need improvement: 1. No needle phobia (trypanophobia) care available, whether nitrous oxide, oral tranquilizer or other palliation, despite my requests four days prior during phone interview, at check-in desk and to pre-OP nurse. (DSM top 10 fear, affects 50 million Americans.) 2. CPAP not employed, though I’d brought it per instructions during phone interview and had informed pre-OP nurse. 3. Allowed to wait more than 30 mins before asking and only then being informed of the doctor’s revised schedule due to previous procedure complications. 4. Some waiting room attendants disrespectfully shouted patient names instead of approaching waiting area and respectfully calling names.

Leslie Comstock

This hospital allowed a psyche patient to use their internal hospital phones to threaten me, and when I called them about it they treated me like I was wasting their time. That is aiding criminal activity.

I was pleasantly surprised at how peaceful the adult inpatient care was, at least in ward 3a. The nurses were amazing and obviously genuinely care about your health and happiness. The food leaves a lot to be desired as do the beds, but other that it felt like a vacation. I definitely recommend.

Petra Holden

I'm a bit surprised at all the negative reviews. This is a small hospital, but it does its job well. I have been here for a breast biopsy, as well as an ER visit. Lucky me, right? :) Each time the staff has been exceptionally kind and informative. No wait times, it's a very quiet ER. The Wi-Fi is free and speedy, and the hospital is as clean and neat as I'd expect. They have free valet parking as well. If I have to go to a hospital, which is not my favorite thing to do, Mount Vernon Inova is as good as most and certainly quieter than many :)

Have 0 experience in Sickle cell anymic patients. No professionalism, rooms are extremely cramped and have 0 communication. They lacked patient sympathy. Definitely DONT recommend.

I went to the emergency room after an accident. They were very thorough with minimal wait time of 45 min

We were visiting from California when my husband's surgery scar (which his doctor in California had said was fine and he was OK to travel) became infected and burst. We spent two days at Mt Vernon Hospital, and were very impressed at the level of service and care we received. I truly felt all the staff from the doctors and nurses, to the food service and janitorial, really cared about the patients. The ER was clean, efficient and FAST! Registration was easy and we didn't feel like all they wanted was our co-pay (which was significantly less than our co-pay at home). Our doctor, nurses and techs were friendly and went above and beyond to get him discharged from the hospital (with his medical records) in time to make our flight home. Mercy Healthcare in California should strive to be more like Inova.

Austin Geppert

Do not do any tests or lab work and leave without getting the results. Because the doctors will tell you they will call you back with the results but won't and when you call back in to get the results they will tell you they cannot release the results to you, even though you're the patient they performed them on. (Called 10 times same story everytime.) Very unprofessional. Happy to take my money to do any test they see acceptable but won't give me results or fix the problem I came in with.
