Wife comes in with high fever of unknown origin. Been struggling for a month in and out of ER’s. Finally get admitted here and have to wait in the ER until a room is available. Been in the room for 2 hours now and haven’t seen a nurse since. No IV, even though she is dehydrated and haven’t had her temperature taking since arrival. Now I know why this place averages 2 stars. I hope she doesn’t die while here or they will get a lot more than a one star review!!!! If you love your family member don’t bring them here!

My dad came to emergency room Thursday they sent him home my dad told them something was different they didnt take him seriously. This morning at 2:30am had drive my dad back to emergency room only to find out that he has blood clot in lung they should've kept him and find out wats wrong on Thursday instead of today I'm filing a complaint today

They do not care about mental health patients.

Currently in Lynchburg General Hospital. I have NEVER been treated so bad by doctors and nurses. I've had migraines and stabbing stomach pain for the last 4 months and last 50 pounds. I have fainted 8 times since I have been here. I am on a anti inflammatory for pain every 8 hours. And florocet (a step up from tylenol) for migraines. In 6 hours I have been at a 10 pain level. Not one person has checked on me in this time. I have not been asked my pain level in 9 hours. Besides the lack of concern for my pain, let's talk about the nurses. When I finally got one in here, she was rude. My iv was hanging off, only on by I piece of tape which I took a picture of and she said"as long as its got some tape on it, I'm good with that!" I told her, Hayley by the way that I needed better for pain. She said she would try to call the doctor but they weren't going to do anything. She was wrong, he added tylenol, yes tylenol. I have been here almost 4 DAYS and have no more of an idea as to what is going on then I did when I got here. My advice, go to another hospital, med choice or your mom for that matter. Bet you'll feel allot better after 4 days then I do.

If you have a real emergency hope the helo is there so u can get some where else because I promise they will let u die

Very poor management, lack of communication, honor, and respect to all staff, unappreciated.

They are the number one treatment center in Lynchburg. They handle everything and as an institution, they are top in the area.

Jean Woods

Went twice in 3 days. Been to many ERS and this was the best from several states. Triage is gold. Getting non lifeyhreatening situations cared for quickly smoothly. I felt many other ERS could use its methods. The only criticism I have is I feel it does not practice good universal precautions.

Ian Pringle

Slow. Doctor came to the curtain then left to flirt with a nurse on the other side of the curtain and talk about coffee and budgets. Absolutely ridiculous.

Jeff Pinkston

Never been To such a rude and nasty emergency department. Once we got a room upstairs it was no better. Takes 4 hours to order. A tray. Rooms are dirty and staff is very very very rude

Robin ashwell Ashwell

I am sicker today than when I was admitted. They did not use any precautions to protect my already compromised heart and lungs so now I have MRSA in my lungs. Please protect yourself and your loved ones by staying as far away from Lynchburg Gen. Hospital as is possible

Charlie Heck

I can only comment on the neuro ICU but the drs and nurses were amazing. Very informative and just in good spirits. Night and day. Margo,Drew,Shannon,Rachael, Erin. and many Drs that I haven't even got to meet yet. Thank you all so much for taking great care of my mom. It's often a thankless job but y'all are amazing.

Brittney Daniels

They are slow and rude. Half of them don’t even look like they wanna be working. Sent here by another dr for one thing and they wanna do as little as possible for the reason we came for. WORST HOSPITAL EVER!

Brian McGraw

Good care when I arrived there. Was seen immediately by doctors and nurses. Very sweet and genuine. Thank you

Miles Mcnichols

Great doctors nurces they really try to get you well

Lewis Wydner

The Nurses are 95% of the time amazing. The doctors are as forgettable to you as you are to them. Parking is the worst of any hospital I've ever been to. The emergency room - you better show up in an ambulance or you will die before you are seen. You could literally drive to Richmond Roanoke, or even Raleigh and get seen before they would take you back. The staff are great, its the hospital administrators and centra that need to be held accountable for the mistakes.

Had a heart attack and was taken to Lynch Gen. I was treated very well had great doctors and nurses and went to surgery had a procedure done and feel much better. The staff did an excellent job, were very attentive checked on me and my family often, I think maybe some of these bad reviews are people who think they are so entitled and there problems are the only ones that matter. I hope Im wrong but seems like the world is about me me me and people dont care about others. But I was lucky to get the quality service that I did. Thanks to EVERYONE who helped.

My elderly mother was recently in the ICU after a bad fall left her with a broken hip. The staff was attentive and knowledgable and I have never seen a cleaner environment. I've been in and have worked in a number of hospitals and Centra Lynchburg provided excellent care. They also kept me up to date on a daily basis of how she was doing.

I have been out of Lynchburg for twenty-five years and was under the impression it had progressed? This hospital has regressed to the level of prehistoric times or, 1938 EU times. I was asked what church I attended, which proves to me that if you're a Christian, you're marked for disdain. The weather was inclement, and I had no viable means of being transported home, although, I was told that the paramedics would transport me back home. I was given blankets and told to wait in the Waiting Room for 24-48 hours. I needed to get home because my life-sustaining medications were there. I was told that if I died while waiting, they could "take care of that, too." The hospital is racist, backwards, and intolerant of Christians and blacks of mixed descent. I saw one of the front desk attendants helping people to find ways to get home. When I approached this "individual", I was told that my health insurance "wasn't the right kind." If I am paying an exorbitant amount of money through my provider, it should be applicable. No, wait! I forgot! It isn't POLITICALLY CORRECT. If you're not politically correct, or, if you had the unmitigated gall to be born in the United States, you DON'T MEASURE UP. It was a severe mistake coming back to this dead and dried up town, full of incompetent hillbillies who only have the intellectual capacity to puff on cigarettes and smell as if they emerged from a garbage dumpster. Gag.

I've never had a problem with the care given.

I got a biopsy done 3 days ago, and had bad bleeding afterwards which caused excruciating pain. I was given pain medicine and told that they would send me hone with more and to keep an eye on my conditon. 15 minutes later someone came in and told us that we needed to stay the night, which I refused and said I could monitor my condition at home. Not 20 minutes later they came in to say if I didn't stay and get my liver drained I would die. Then a while later I was told that they didn't have a liver doctor and I needed to go to UVA, which I finally agreed to. Then they told me I would need to be transported, which I refused because I would have been waiting 45 minutes for them to get there. The doctors told me there was a chance my heart could fail or I could bleed out on the way down here. I have been waiting at the ER at UVA for two hours. But I was told it was urgent and I would be taken immediately. This is by far the worst ER I have ever been in, the doctors don't know anything and will tell you anything to get some money.

Absolutely disgraceful to be a hospital.. in the ER for 6 hours now with pneumonia!!? Still here waiting on this slow pathetic place to go when your ill... NEVER again!!!

I have had the less than unique privilege to see how well their system works and fails to work up close and personal while seeing to my aging mother's care. They dispense reasonable care if you stay after them to do what they are suppose to do. There are truly dedicated and knowledgable people working for centra, however those folks are far too few in number. When you draw one of the bad apples, you have to be persistent to get what you are paying for. Including being very assertive and even nasty at times to ensure they know u mean business. There are serious problems with this healthcare conglomerate and I for one dread the day I will be a patient there without an advocate. It saddens me greatly to realize healthcare, once an honorable and lofty human service has been reduced to it being all about the money at the expense of patient care. I could go into great detail but I am sure my stories are not unique and anyone who has been a long term patient under Centra's care knows exactly the kinds of things that make it clear that patient care does NOT come first.

Most horrifying hospital visit I've had in most of my life, and I'm a cancer survivor who lived in a hospital. Wish this could be negative stars. Completely inhumane. I ended up being forcibly admitted to the psyche ward. I was very clear that I have PSTD from living in a hospital and that this was an incredibly bad decision not founded in full consideration of the situation. Have been sitting in ER for 14 hours now, and have not begun my forced 72 hours. Good luck to you if you choose this hospital. It's tragically not set up to deal with people with complex trauma.

Nicole Adams

If I could rate them 0 stars, I would! Horrible hospital, terrible service!

Nathan Wescoat

I understand that emergency rooms are a crazy place and yes there is a expected wait time, but this place is getting to be a joke. It is crazy to have someone in one of the bays for 7 hours. We were told that they had a room since he was being admitted and 3 hours went you and we were still stuck in the ER. And no one can seem to ever have a answer. Supposedly it was because the room hadn’t been cleaned yet. Well, someone needs to hire a new staff. Unless the cleaning staff is comprised of Hellen Keller and Ray Charles I could have cleaned 10 rooms in that amount of time. Absolutely unnecessary.

Stephen Faircloth

Went in there at 5p & got told at 12a what was wrong but ended up still waiting on discharge papers till after 1 really!!! This is the worse place to go for urgent, quick care I would've been better off going to physicians treatment center bc I probably would've been in and out in less then 2hrs.....ugh!!!

We are brand new to Lynchburg so when we had to take both our babies to the ER in an unfamiliar place we were terrified. What a blessing we came here because we received amazing and quick care! Our nurse Emilia and attending PA Mindy were so encouraging and provided excellent care. We are so thankful that these two professionals were incredibly knowledgeable and have the best bedside manner.

Jeremy Moore

Nurses and CNAs were nearly all excellent. I was in the surgical East floor, room 375. In there for 12-13 days. All of my suicide sitters were nice. Some I didn't enjoy as much as I did with the rest. I really liked 3 of them. The mental health people I do not like though. Other than most are fine. Update your policies so people can put all four bed rails up without having some say it breaks rules and others saying it doesn't if you tell the nurse you want them up. Where do people even look for them? I was brought some really good food and some horrible food. I'm brought pancakes with syrup, french toast with syrup and cereal and milk but no spoon. It makes me feel like the kitchen people don't understand what finger foods are when I can't have utensils and it's printed on the paper that has the information on it. But the other meals were decent or excellent. I got a really nice sandwich once like a club from Chick-fil-A it seemed like but wasn't, tasted great. But then I got chicken wing and I don't like bones, but I don't judge based on that. I also was given green beans with the chicken wing. Sometimes my paper with what they brought would be missing something. Sometimes they would break a rule and give me a fork or straw and they aren't allowed. Just once they didn't bring me or another patient food. Our nurse had to go to the kitchen and get us something. Excellent nurses though. I don't think I had one unkind nurse at all. If I did I don't remember. I do know sometimes when they needed to catheter me they were slow or it was the CNA who was slow. I can't recall who. Some CNAs were nice and some were less nice but not mean. So with this place. It really depends on what your treatment is there. I had an ICU surgery in Farmville Centra and they transferred me here for the psychiatric part of it. So I can't comment much on any of that got Lynchburg lately. So they can get 3 stars because I loved the nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapist, and CNAs, but because of the massive amount of suicide precautions they have to take that aren't necessary and they messed up numerous times, they will get a 3. Oh and I hate the mental health people, they don't listen to me.

One of the worst experiences in all ER visits - people use this as a regular dr office and they are tended to before the ACTUAL emergencies!! The staff is the worst - non caring, non comforting. The security guards watched videos and laughed all night - no compassion for what people might be dealing with!! The humility you have to sit there and hear and see is degrading and disgusting!! I have learned that being nice does not get you what you need. My sister was put in a hall way for hours in a hard plastic CHAIR - will she get a discount for this awful disservice??? Unfortunately morals are a thing of the past. God help this world because we need it more than ever! What a joke - i had to give it a star before you can post, why not give thumbs down option?

Dorothy White

My first contact with cold and unfriendly. My Drs office sent me there after having a negative ekg. The young lady that I signed in with said that the doctors office never called. But she never went to see who was contacted as if it was no big deal. I didn't feel comfortable at this point. Next contact was triage nurse. Unfriendly uninterested, never waivered from her script. Showed no empathy. Poor customer service. Finally she asked why I was there.... really. I could not stay and trust these people to care for me if I was indeed . I was there for additional testing. I left and will make appointment with Dr Valentine's office. It amazes me that these people are my only choice for emergency care , sad.

I left at 9.20 PM Told me to call back for results. Some people were there 6 hours or more still waiting. We need another Hospital in Lynchburg .I should have Went to Bedford...

Rachael Sellers

I wish I could give this place 0 stars!!! I was in a bad car accident and the air bags went off and everything! I know for a fact I have a concussion cause I have EVERY symptom!!! This is serious and I want to make sure I don’t have brain damage! So I needed to be seen ASAP!!! They had me waiting for 5-6 hours at a level 10 pain level and gave me an ice pack for my migraine... AN ICE PACK!!! Really??? They kept telling us our room was being cleaned... 6 hours and counting? Nah... We left and went elsewhere because there was still SOOOOOOOOO MANY more people in front of me who still had to get looked at. DO NOT GO HERE!!!

Racheal Anderson dean

Not being from Lynchburg I would like to give A WARNING: THIS PLACE!I have been to this place 4 times, that's right 4 times throughout the month of July and still so sick.I already know my ailment, seeing that it has been present in my life for many years.chroni cystitis (double kidney infection).A month has dragged by still sick. The only Dr. who actually really listened is Dr.wendy jWilcoxsin..she is by far an asset to that place. The 3 other Drs. that I saw., that is if they even are actually are ,well they should follow Dr.wilcoxsons professionalism and knowledge. The nurses and staff are very kind. But like I said:BEWARE.seek treatment elsewhere!

belinda kezwick

this is NOT an emergency room, lynchburg general has the worst staff, the worst equipment and the wait time in the so called “ER” is ridiculous. the only way to be seen is thru an ambulance. pretty sure you would wait hours even if you were shot. invest in expanding your emergency room with more rooms and beds for people who need the care, cause this hospital is trash. 0 STARS

Lena Helite

You show up for dizzy spells and they want to do chest X-rays I refused this is why medical costs skyrocket

Angelia Angle

Was the worst waiting time still havent been seen yet need more dr's and staff so they can expand this is the second time I been here first time was 4 hours and I left

Piper Davison

I had two procedures done last week at Lynchburg General. I had read reviews before having it done and was concerned about bad reviews but after my experience I cant believe there were that many bad reviews! Everyone was very kind and took care of me, from walking in the door to the person getting me where I needed to go , sign in person, nurse Jodi that got me ready for my procedure, nurse anesthetist, all the nurses before procedure and the nurses and doctors during the procedures. Nurses in the recovery were great! I moved to Virginia from Ohio and I can tell you I have never had such a great hospital experience as this one. What a lot of kind, caring group of nurses and doctors! Thank you! You were wonderful!

Katie

If you can, go elsewhere. As someone who deals with chronic health conditions that make me prone to attacks or accidents/possibly severe injuries, I’ve been to a lot of hospitals, and this is the worst. I wish there were more urgent care facilities in Lynchburg with better hours (having some open until midnight would take a huge strain off of the ER, lessening wait times for more serious issues). Ex. If you fracture your finger after 9pm in Lynchburg, you’re stuck with LGH. If it’s a worse issue, LGH doesn’t seem to be well equipped to deal with them. Not to mention, the places you’re referred to for follow up aren’t the greatest either. I’d really recommend heading to UVA or go over to Roanoke. LewisGale offers real time updates for the wait times at their ERs through their website which is helpful if you need to be seen quickly. If it’s a complex and life threatening issue, UVA is best.

Mark Singleton

Awful Hospital.Bad parking! Not very friendly staff.

Darin Murphy

Too bad there isn't a -5 star because that's what this hospital's emt/ems team deserves. My girlfriend who recently moved to Lynchburg called for an ambulance today because she was paralyzed. The woman has 7 herniated discs and 4 damaged discs due to work related injuries and woke up unable to move and could barely talk. She called for an ambulance, which arrived. The EMT (I'm using this term very, very loosely) checked her heart rate and blood pressure which were high then told her that she was suffering from anxiety and that it was a waste of time taking her to the hospital. Since she is very shy and since she was so upset and confused she didn't argue the point. I live 3 hours away and unable to drive there to her, so the EMT is very lucky, because if he had pulled that B.S. in front of me, he would have needed an ambulance. First EMT are not doctors and should not be DIAGNOSING ANYONE PERIOD!!! Second it's not his job to determine what is or is not an emergency. Their job is to stabilize the patient for transport and nothing more! This is just another example of our Medical Industry collapsing and taking all of us who depend on them down with them. I'll be moving there in a few months and the next time she needs an ambulance I'll be there to make sure the EMTs do their jobs and nobody elses period!!!

I will never use a Centra hospital again. Two days after outpatient surgery, I became acutely ill , and was taken to the ER by ambulance. I was diagnosed with a serious (hospital acquired) pneumonia and sepsis and required further inpatient hospitalization for treatment. Although I was seriously ill after admission, my medical care was delayed and it took several hours for the nurse to get ordered medication, hydration, or anything. The ER room was unbelievably filthy (I have pictures), overpopulated with people crammed in every nook, and short staffed. I am very familiar with this ER, as a staff member. My decades long loyalty to Centra was crushed since that episode. And yes, the billing is chaotic and terrible, and they overcharged for everything. Never, ever again. Thank goodness for Carilion.

My experience was excellent. I went in late at night with severe stomach pain that ended up being appendicitis. Every one of the dozen or so people I spoke to was kind and friendly, even at 3 am, right at the end of their shift. I was very well taken care of. The facilities were all clean, the staff performed efficiently and effectively, and everyone went out of their way to answer all of my questions. I was in and out of surgery in a couple of hours and home that evening with minimal pain and discomfort. My only complaint is that it took a couple hours to get out of the waiting room and a couple more hours to actually get some medication. However, it was a very busy night, so that's not surprising. Overall I was very pleased with my experience (given the circumstances) and I would definitely recommend this hospital to others.

A Galway Girl

Doctors were fine, but our bill was sent to a collection agency even though it was paid. It was a complete nightmare straightening out and communicating with collection agency. Most Centra billing representatives were great to work with, but one was truly very nasty and aggressively irrational. Also, interns pretending to be the next shift doctor should identify themselves accurately.

Courtney Fowlkes

By far the best hospital I’ve ever been too!!! When I walked in the ER they asked my name and address, took my temperature and blood pressure and was back in a room immediately. And a DR was in the room less than 10 minutes later. All the nurses and other staff were great. And the DR was amazing. I was kinda embarrassed for what I went for but they all made me totally comfortable! I live in Chatham and will always make the drive to come here if I ever need a hospital again! :)

tamia nowlin

I rate this hospital a ZERO!!! This is the worst hospital I’ve ever been to. I have been waiting in the ER for over 15 HOURS. They couldn’t wait to do x-rays and get my billing information, but after that I had to wait over 12 hours to get my results. They also sent people before me who came hours after me. I will never come to this hospital ever again. I will drive to Bedford Memorial Hospital the next time I need “emergency care”.

Dustin Tapia

The worst place I have ever been. 3.5 hours and still waiting. With chest pain.

Jennifer & Jimmy G

Better to die at home then this joke of a e.r pray for the people that have to come here the chances are not good they can make a mistake that will kill you o well attitude

Gary Salyers

Worst place ever!!! My uncle needed therapy after and we were lied to about the place we chose having beds. The case worker there needs to be fired for what she said to us. They are not giving patients and families a choice. They made us go to their buildings and it was a joke. Was horrible. Something needs to be done.

Marco Polo

My friend was there today with dog bites to his hand none of the staff Bothered to wash his hands since they were covered in dirt n blood no stitches, no bandaids

Angela Ware

They're super slow and will make you wait 30 hours in a chair to get any mental help. Also don't bother with the ER. They just bring you back and you sit in a chair some more watching your phone battery get lower and lower. Currently sitting in the hallway with my friend who is badly concussed and we have gotten no help in 2 hours now. There is also nothing but a small curtain separating us from other patients.

Stephanie Dillard

My sister has been sitting in the hallway for over 4 hours waiting on CT scan... in the course of these 4 hours she has vomited 3 times and hasn't been admitted to a room, she is currently sitting in a hard chair in the hallway where she is forced to give personal information in the presence of other patients... I understand that trips to the emergency room may require you to wait for short periods of time but this is absolutely ridiculous. There doesn't really seem to be a sense of urgency from any of the doctors, nurses and other staff...

Mallory Barber

Kathy Stone

The only reason i give it 5 stars is because at the bottom of this page it says people also search for and it is a bunch of funeral, it's really good dark humor so i give it 5 stars!

Anna Grace

Terrible. Absolutely terrible. My friend died on Mersa there and they didn't even take her temperature. My grandfather experienced elder abuse while there (will not go into details) and was flown to another hospital free of charge to avoid legal action against them.

S Rowe

I don't have anything to say about LGH overall, but... My dad's nurses were AWESOME! Thank you!

Kim Carvente

The absolute worst hospital in America! Centra, Lynchburg VA on Atherholt DO NOT GO THERE they HARM patients vs. heal patients.

Until you get to GMU (General Medical Unit) on the 3rd floor the Emergency staff will save your life. Once you get to GMU may the good lord help you because Centra sure won't. The stories of incompetence, under-staffing, ineptitude and general way of doing things (or rather NOT doing them) are legendary in our community. I suppose when you have a monopoly like Centra it doesn't matter who complains or what the reviews are, Centra will carry on with the atrocious practices that save them money while getting every cent possible out of each patient. This is not an indictment of the general staff, most of them try very hard, but of the administration. Someday they will run across someone with the money, power and connections to get things changed. Until then, good luck!

evan .quarles

Emergency room is trash. I dont know who is in charge but the nurses seem like they are just over everything and dont care, and it takes an hour just to get one person in the ER taken in the back.

Artemis Odinson

Horrible my son was sick an they just gave us nausea medication that made him throw up more instead of treating him for Food Poisoning which is what he had. These doctors are playing hospital with no clue.

Roger Cash

Jennifer Gilbert

Nurse forgot I was her patient due to me being in the hall bed not a room. Was very rude questioning another nurse who was starting my care, she pulled the medcine out of my hand and yelled at me and the other nurse.

The Cloud Chasing Coma

Would have given a 0 star review but yeah so been here for 6 hours already before she got called back and when we got here there was only 15 people in waiting area SAW A FEMALE WITH A GASH IN HER HEAD THAT LEFT BECAUSE IT TOOK TOO LONG THIS IS ABSOLUTELY APPALLING AND REDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!! IT SHOULD NOT TAKE THIS LONG TO SEE PATIENTS! ITS SAD HONESTLY THAT PEOPLE HAVE TO LEAVE BECAUSE IT TAKES TOO LONG TO SEE THEIR PATIENTS

Danielle Hylton-Outland

My sister is currently on her 8th hour in the waiting room. It's unacceptable when someone it vomiting blood and in so much pain from diverticulitis. Get it together!

Erica

I am very disappointed with the staff at the LGH emergency room department. My spouse came in for severe headache and nausea. He is in severe pain!!! But as the hospital policy would have it- he has to line up and wait to see a doctor. He needed to lay down but cannot. Why is there not a system in place to see those who are a top priority in relation to medical care. Is saving or restoring ones health just a "casual service" - no emergency? At Centra is there not an adequate doctor to patient ratio? so patients can leave sooner? Come on. No creatively or enthusiasm to improve health care visits? Why the wait is so long? So one must drop down unconscious then the staff would act?. Very poor service!!! I suggest something should be done. Not good medical practice at all!!!!!!!

Saberina diTriniti

This places emergency room sucks. My friend had been date rape drugged so we tried to take her to get tested to see what it was cause multiple other girls had also been and we were in the waiting room for 3 1// hours and they told us it wouldn’t be atleast five more hours and get kept moving us to the back of the line and letting other people a head of us. Another group Of people came in cause one of them thought he was having a heart attack and they were waiting as long as us... S HEART ATTACK.

Anthony Meyers

Workers don't care. Emergency room terribly slow and laid back. Awful here

IF I COULD PUT 0 STARS I WOULD. Was told by urgent care to bring my girlfriend to the triage center immediately due to heart complications, and that they had already talked to the doctor at the triage facility. WE HAVE VEEN WAITING FOR GOING ON 8 HOURS TO GET A ROOM AND FOR SOMETHING TO BE DONE. IT IS RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!! She is having heart COMPLICATIONS and hasn’t even been in a room yet. We have waited our entire day and are extremely frustrated with this hospital!!! I would NOT recommend the triage facility to ANYONE who needs care fast!! ABSOLUTELY UNSATISFIED WITH THE SERVICE PROVIDED TODAY!!

Roland Duttlinger

Amber Marie

I hate to rate a hospital at 2 stars but it's unfortunately terrible. I went in one night and waited 4 hours to be seen. I understand that this happens, however the people waiting with me had been there multiple times that week because they were diagnosed with something and just kept getting worse. After 4 hours of waiting, we were told it would be at least another 4 hours for a bed and another couple hours to see a doctor. The triage nurses were VERY friendly and I thank them for that. Unfortunately the friendliness ended there. When you're feeling bad, kindness goes a long way. However I really feel that this hospital needs better management and more doctors or beds. Everyone I have spoken to about this agrees that the long wait times are ridiculous and misdiagnosis are too common.

Mrs Robinson

LGH is not a TRAUMA HOSPITAL. They are unequipped, untrained and unprepared to help you after a car accident, compound fracture, gunshot wound, stabbing. You are 35% more likely to DIE if you are admitted to their hospital. The worst thing about it is they REFUSE to tell their patients they cannot help them and almost NEVER refer you to a specialist when the doctors know nothing to help you. If you need critical care, demand to be taken to Roanoke or Charlottesville. Dont allow your family members to be taken to LGH for heart attack, stroke or cancer. The best thing about LGH are their nurses, who deserve 10 stars.

L. JACKSON

I had to recently take my 84 year old grandmother to the ER for severe stomach pains. We were never seen in a room, we sat in the hall. What I found disturbing was how the medical staff/Dr.'s were openly discussing patients medical information out in the hallway, isn't this a HIPAA violation? I knew everybody's medical conditions just sitting in the hallway because there was absolutely no privacy.

If you're gonna have a monopoly and health care locked down for such a large area then you need to be able to take care of every problem. Gotta send people to uva and vcu to get anything serious taken care of.

gerald stroman

This is the slowest hospital on the east coast!

Cheyenne Bufford

Went here for the first time yesterday, I never heard anything good about this hospital but I was referred by my family doctor because it was the quickest place I could get an appointment at. Doctors and nurses aren't too bad but not the best and not very professional. I went to the radiology department for an ultrasound. Which I had to have a full blatter for. And I sat in the waiting room for a little over an hour & a half before being seen. The desk attendant walked back only once to see what was taking so long and she told us it would be a couple more mins need I say we waited 45 more mins!! Not a few! As far as I can see the facility isn't big enough nor is the buildings and administrative staff is beyond unorganized. Also not very friendly. Not to mention not very clean either!!! I'd never go back to this hospital even if it was an Emergency! UVA & Martha Jefferson are 1000% times better.

Adrienne Davis

A friend of mine went to the ER because she was having an asthma attack and didn't get treatment until 5 hrs later, after being sent back and forth to the waiting room because they said she was having a panic attack (she has a medical tag for asthma around her neck) and she passed out before she was able to see a doctor.....5 hours!! I would give this no stars if that was possible.

Linda Poteat

Everything was great! The room was clean. All the staff were friendly and helpful. There is also a nonprofit Inn for family of patients to stay at very reasonable charges.

Paul & Leslie McMonagle

Went there with a family member who was in severe pain. Called ahead of arrival to see hospital staff. We were taken immediately to the emergency room and given a bed on arrival. Doctors came by a number of times and provided ample support and medication. The emergency room was busy but care was taken and concern shown for the patients. Good hospital, good physicians and great facilities.

Marjetta Flood

I had my 1st outpatient surgery in Oct. 2015. The surgery went well and the staff were awesome! However, I was discharged with a level 7 on the pain scale. I could barely stand to get dressed, was extremely nauseated and by no means ready to be discharged, but I was anyway. I felt like I was being rushed out which was very disappointing. Go figure.....

Chris Drew

Incompetent

Clif Wade

I was very happy with their service. Great staff and doctor. They took great care of my wife. I would happily recommend them.

Joseph Anderson

Over 5 hour wait time to be seen on a Sunday is absolutely unacceptable. Poorly staffed.

Corey Alkire

Very slow poor quality service. Waited 3 hours with our daughter with 103.4 temp. never saw a nurse the doctor came in then went to lunch, the entire pod was empty when our daughters temp. Spiked got sick of waiting left the e.r and went to med express in and out in 30 min will never go back to this place again...

Sonya Ganjon

Staff at the ER triage shouldn't tell a patient that they have CHF, my blood pressure was very high and needless to say it went up even more.

Emmanuel D.T. Bautista

Debii creeasy

Never did get a bed... sat on a stretcher for five hours waiting on a doctor. Some muslim lady came to see me and I asked her if she was a doctor and she said ... yes in "her" country. What a joke. They never asked me for my list of medications even thought when I called 911 they told me to bring them with me. It took 5 hours for an AMERICAN certified doctor to see me... and then she "forgot" to put the order in for the morphine for the pain so I had to wait another hour. I have several drug allergies... no one asked about those either. But they did make sure and send a girl with fifty piercings on her face to get my insurance information. Gotta make sure they get paid for that stretcher in the hallway. Better not try and charge me for a room because I never got one. CENTRA SUCKS

James Bowman

Had to go in for a prostate mri at the radiology building.Very friendly and efficent staff. Janice was my radiologist, answered my questions, very nice, had me some headphones on all 80s and smooth sailing.

Lawrence Demoret

Worst hospital ever. The staff is awful and cares none for the patient and after being seen by doctor waited six hours to get xrays! Finally discharged and get home to see that the doctor wrote that no xrays would be needed. Totally scammed!!

Dustin Thomas

Wayne Alegre

Hospital staff and doctors are very respectfull and show true concerns about your problems

Cassie Foster

This is by far the worst hospital that I have ever been too. I came with severe side pain and muscle spasms... Not life threatening I know and yes I under stand triage but when I got here only 2 other People eeere wating. This hospital never has less then a 2 hour wait time which is ridiculous. They need to do something about it. If your busy enough to have a 2+ hour waiting time then you need to expand. It's total BS. It is actually faster to drive to UVA an hour away and been seen there. At the point. I've been waiting 1 hour and 35 minutes. Oh and previous experience is was horrible too. They could even get my son's feeding tube in when it popped out. I hate living where they have crappy hospitals. One of the only reasons I want to move.

Christopher Ogden

I truly don't know where these people are getting these reviews from. If you had a bad experience at the ER here, let me explain why: These are facts by the way... 1. 107,000 visits in 1 year from a metropolitan area covering 260,000 people. That means if you have a family of 5, 2 of you went to the emergency room. This is for every family in the area. Doesn't this sound a little drastic? 2. It is ranked #9 hospital in the state, out of 130 total. 3. Nobody can be turned away, regardless of insurance or ability to pay. One review stated that after 4 hours of waiting, she left. This is the EXACT problem of the emergency room. If you can walk, breath, eat, text on your phone and talk, then the emergency room is not what you need. You have what you consider to be an emergency, but in reality it is an urgency, only in your mind as well. If people would stop using the emergency room for colds, belly aches, dandruff and hangnails, then maybe people with true emergencies and needing skilled medical care could receive it in a timely fashion. People have confused the ER with their personal doctor's office. If you've never heard of the Pareto rule, 80% of your problems come from 20% of people. "Frequent fliers" ruin healthcare in America because they don't care, have no intent on paying for any of their healthcare (ever), are entitled, and have no consequences for their actions.

Shauna Marriott

We brought my father here with severe back pain last week early in the morning. Dr. Vauth was rude, did very little to help, and treated him as though he was only in the ER to get drugs. He did not even thoroughly review his records from the past when a similar problem occurred.

Neola mays

Went to ER for inflamed Sciatic nerve was taken in the back placed on bed in the hall for two and one half hour and left on my own it was ridiculous I could have stayed in pain at home until I got to the Veterans Hospital it was awful the nurses sitting around playing on their cell phones I went to Nursing School at LGH and it was not like this

Holly Harvey

SUCKS THEY KILLED MY GRANDMA!!!!!

Jenn Jim Ooo

If i. Could i would gife it a -0 they suck dont help people always wont other people to do three job dam i was in so much pain with my back they said it was a muscle pull no it was not i had a uti big difference rhen you hear them in the hall laughing at people with mentl illness she was in the room next to me that not right they should take along look at them self before talking about people so lynchburg general suck -0000000000000

Lakisha Johnson

Sad sorry excuse for a hospital. Including all staff especially the emergency room.

Courtney Penn

Horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible experience. I wish there were an option for 0 stars to be given because no cares were given during my visit. The staff was loud and inconsiderate, having inappropriate conversations, and understaffed for the amount of patients they had. They have about 60 beds and were treating 100 people. People were being helped in the hall where all there personal information was being told in front of unauthorized people, and people were in stretchers in the halls while being hooked to IVs. The rooms were unsanitary and dirty. It was just an awful experience where we will be charged for services that were subpar. We will be filing something in accordance to several Hipaa violations encountered last night. If you can make it to another hospital, make the commute. This is absolutely the worst hospital I have ever been to, and my fiance is studying medicine and was shocked at everything we were dealing with last night. 5 of the 6 people being treated beside me left with pain medicine for diagnosed kidney stones. The other guy was in a car accident, so they couldn't blame that on his kidneys. What a coincidence that we all were there with the same problems !?! I think not...

Russell Ball

The institutional compassion at rhis hospital ia zero. My mother broke a hip and lay in extreme pain in the ER for 5 hours before a physician spent 5 minutes to read the xray and diagnose the break. Many more hours passed before admission. Patients are treated like dumb animals by the managers though some of the individual staff tries to compensate.

Elijah Plasterer

Wish I could give a lower rating. Sat here for over 7 hours before I was even checked in to get my appendix removed. Front desk care laughed and gaughed at me after trying to get in sooner. Worst experience of my life.

Beth Giganti

I took my son to the emergency room and the staff was very efficient and the Doctor was knowledgeable.

C Paul King

If you can go anywhere else please do so. Every time I have to go there they screw up what they are supposed to do. I was scheduled for a procedure, drove 30 minutes to get there and after I was checked in, I was told that they could not do the procedure because they didn’t have time because they apparently had scheduled to many for that day. Shouldn’t they have known that before hand and at the least call me before l came all the way there? A good hospital would do something to rectify the situation but they think that they can do whatever they want with no regard for the patients who pay their salaries. In September, 2019, I was sent by my doctor to be admitted to the hospital. They, LGH,then told me that I could not go through admitting, for reasons that were never explained, and instead was told to go through the emergency room. Over 9 hours later, I was still waiting to be admitted. This is unacceptable. If I could give them a rating of less than one star, I would do so. Please avoid this place at all cost.

B 777

I went there for a chemical burn in my throat and they stuck tubes and put me too sleep even tho I told them I could breath fine and walked myself in there and they let people come see me who I wouldn't dare be near me this is a joke of an establishment

Christopher Kern

Ashley Noll

I don't see why there is such bad reviews I was seen and put in a room quickly everyone has been absolute sweethearts and the doctors are very knowledgeable.

Doug Poole

Took my friend there, got friendly IMMEDIATE service! Thank God it's not politically correct!

Stuart Whetsell

This 1* is for you guys to see this terrible review. The most terrible hospital ever... *****DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT STOPPING BY THE LYNCHBURG GENERAL HOSPITAL ER***** Their timing is way off and staffs are not doing anything to people that were throwing up in the lobby. I’m seeing one lady is gagging hard as the mother trying to comfort her and two other young college ladies trying to comfort one of their friend from throwing up and ease the pain the friend might have. This hospital is awful... The next time, if y’ all want quick admit... go to Bedford Memorial Hospital!

Lacey Roark

I went in this past week because my body was aching and I was very uncomfortable. They took blood and a urine sample and told me I had a common cold. I had no signs of a cold. Come to find out two days later I found a dear tick on me! This hospital needs to actually listen and get to the bottom of the problem before sending people home with a bad diagnosis that could eventually make them very I'll! I'm in the medical field and it's called compassion people! Do your job.. it's not McDonald's.. see how many you can get in and out in a short time. My advice go to your family physician doctor. That way your getting that one on one caring treatment and will get to the bottom of it.

Ahlan Dubai

This is not an emergency room. The worst so-called medical service. You'll end up dead before you are able to see the doctor .

Misty Black

A woman Coughing Up Blood, another witha possible Annurism, another with Pregnancy Complications And a few people with extremely High Blood Pressure and these people are made to sit for over 8 hours. I have been to this Hospital before and many people in this area have stated the same thing that this Hospital does not seem to know what the word EMERGENCY means. They don’t even send someone to clean the facilities within a 10 hours period. Spreading sickness is apparently not their concern. This Hospital should be shut down and all personnel should be fired. I have been to Mary Washington and many others in Virginia and all of them use the sense of Urgency to see people but this hospital you will die before you are seen. Centra needs to be held accountable for the constant issues and Lynchburg City isn’t even addressing this.

Danielle Peters

Had to sit out in the waiting room while my husband is having chest pain and fluttering in his chest (typical signs of a heart attack) while people with the flu were going in before us. Even told by the staff that we had the longest wait. Now they have my husband out in the hallway instead of in a room!!! This hospital is horrible and would rather the patients die out in the ER than actually care for them.

Cameron Goulde

They didnt cure my aids/osteoporosis

Jack Brown

Rhonda Avellone

Staff is pleasant but the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. Confirm your surgery because they will put you in for something that you’re not getting.

Anthony Ballard

They need a lot of help to be a level 1 trauma center. The owners of the hospital are required to invest in the best possible care. I found system lacking not the personnel. Great Doctors, Nurses and Paramedics even CNA's Lousy management. Nuff said.

Kevan Keane

This is by far the worst excuse of a hospital I've ever been to in my life. The emergency staff has a few good doctors that'll take care of you, but for the most part, my experience has been that they either wring their hands and don't listen to you, or they get cocky and refuse to listen to you. My special needs child was not given the care he needed and we had to get it from UVA instead.

Sylvia Grayham

Towanda McDaniel

I'll lay at home and die before I ever go back there and our stupid city only has one hospital

We are caretakers for my mother-in-law who has had a multitude of illnesses which have made it necessary to make multiple trips to the ER and hospital. Everyone has been very kind! Very professional! There were a few hiccups but mostly due to our lack of understanding the health care process rather than any fault of Lynchburg General. I will admit that waiting for test results takes a huge amount of time but then again, you are made aware of this at the time. It isn't any surprise. I am very grateful for all the care they have given my mother-in-law.

Ryan Ritchie

The ER takes forever for just a simple thing. Even when we were referred by another place it still took 6 hours just to get a simple take home care kit. Staff was nice but just run very poorly.

thisdopelife

All these 1-star reviews are absolutely correct. We just moved to the Lynchburg area & were forced to go to this ER at 10pm at night (and again at 3:30am) because there are no urgent care centers open late here. This is the only ER locally. After my mom had been dealing with really bad abdominal pain for about six hours, we went to the ER and were told that it was a UTI. They sent her home with one antibiotic they gave her while we were there. There are no 24 pharmacies so we had to wait until 8am to get any pain medication and more antibiotics filled. After coming back home, the pain got so bad and she had a reaction to the Cipro antibiotic (which has a black box warning anyway) and started vomitting and had nausea. She returned to the ER where they did a CT and said she had a 6mm kidney stone. They sent her home after only giving her a few fluids and one pain med that made her more nauseous and some new prescriptions (they never collected the old ones we had not filled yet), which she couldn't fill for another few hours anyway. There is so much more to the story, but this review is so long already that I'll just conclude by saying we ended up at this ER four times and never got what we really needed. PA Debra Cobbeldick outright lied to us and we intend to follow up on that. They accused my mom of being a drug addict because she needed a refill of pain meds since her next doctor's appoointment wasn't for 13 more days! Our experience was absolutely terrible & we hope to never return. This hospital, especially the ER, deserves to be shut down or reviewed by Health & Human Services.
