My son needed two heart surgeries. Both were performed by Dr. Hussain. We were very happy with with the surgeries and the care he received in the CICU. The doctors genuinely care and and very open and honest. We had a few issues with speech therapy and a couple of nurses and all our problems were addressed and handled professionally when we brought up our concerns. PCH also made a special effort to make our son feel as at home as possible which we really appreciated.

Only 4 Stars cuz We got here early and are feeling like we should be in a room as it's now ten minutes past the appointment time. My daughter just reminded the staff about us being here. Could be a miscommunication or something. No one else is waiting but us. Restroom was clean. Staff is friendly. Nice waiting area. Lots of toys and books to entertain little people. Beautiful view of the city. Just not liking the delayed response to our appointment today. Our family time should be considered important to the medical team. We have lives also. We've been here for about an hour.

This was the most wonderful experience my son had, even though he did have medical attention he had the greatest stay. My son had his first seizure and being 2 years old that was scary for a mother. We had a horrible experience at Davis hospital but once we were transported the staff made him feel so comfortable that he didn’t even want to leave. We were transported at 3 in the morning knowing we were there late they just let us stay there very night and give him rest. Even thought we couldn’t pin point exactly why he was having seizures the fact that the neurologist and nurses were so helpful and kind made his experience just that much better.

To call and schedule an appointment literally takes forever. The doctors are not that friendly and they lost our test results! We were finally called regarding those results after 2 months had past to basically be told that our daughter should still be on her oxygen (which she wasn't). This hospital is not very organized and their communication is very poor. However, when my infant daughter got sick, they did reach out and check on her so that is why I gave them one star.

This place is amazing. We've brought a couple of our kids here for various issues, and they always go above and beyond what is asked. If I ever have to bring my kids here again, I know that they will be in the best care possible. For the size of this place, I found that their directions posted and signs guiding you to places also made things much easier.

Love Primary Children's Hospital’s staff. Until we went out of insurance and was told to “call back when you have insurance.” Our son was born with a cleft palate and later diagnosed with autism. Every year we had a team meeting to help us understand our way. It’s one of the hardest call for a parent.... where are your priorities?

I went to two specialists. I did not receive calls from the doctors to report test results. I had used the communication portal, and sent messages but there was no return messages. I feel like my son's case was left a little high/dry. I said so in a message but heard nothing. They do nothing to initiate follow-up. It is very clear, that you must follow up and advocate. The one doctor we saw too, was just a tad flippant in response to questions.

I had the worst experience at Primary Children’s ER! I will never take my children here again. I took my 13 month old baby into the ER because he has a terrible outbreak of hives, from head to toe covered in swollen patches of hives. Especially worried about the hives going into his mouth and eyes, I wanted him to be seen by a medical professional. But the ER doctor never even came into the room to exam him! A nurse practitioner came in and wrote down all his symptoms and took a short history of what has been going on. She then leaves the room and comes back and says to me “this is what I learned about hives today” and proceeds to read off of a packet she printed from the internet. She tells me that hives don’t last a lifetime and that I should just keep doing what I’m doing and then discharged my son. Obviously what I’ve been doing isn’t working because his symptoms are getting worse and he needed medical help. All I got from this visit to the ER was an internet printout about hives and a $1,000 bill. I get that the ER’s motto is to “treat em and street em” but we didn’t even get treatment before being sent to the street. And, to top it off, the nurse practitioner questioned why my son had a bruise on his cheek that was actually just dried up food that I wiped off with a baby wipe in front of her. I am so disappointed!

I strongly dislike this hospital! If you can’t make it up during the daytime your voice never gets heard. And communication between doctors and parents suck! I had the worst experience with some of the staff. I have had to jump through so many hoops just to get my child to go home and they keep your child longer than needed personally I feel it’s for the money also the first time he was admitted I had to threaten to discharge him myself. A doctor told me i needed to stay one night so when I got to the hospital they said I needed to stay for 48 hours sign a paper and not go anywhere. I had to stay in the same pair of clothes for three days!!! That is just outrageously nasty!! I couldn’t even take care of my personal hygiene! There constantly coming into the room so you get no sleep at all. I recommend going to any other hospital but the one here in salt lake. They have some of the best doctors and I have had a few wonderful nurses! but the second time admitting my son to this hospital I am over it!

The best care we could have asked for for our baby girl. The staff was caring and listened to our concerns. My little girl had to undergo brain surgery at 5 mo old. Through this very trying time the staff was like an extended family we never new we had. I recommend primary Children’s Hospital to any and all who want the best for their children

Primary children’s hospital takes great care of our children, with specialty departments to reduce time between diagnosing and treating our young loved ones. While here visit their cafeteria. Great food at very reasonable prices. When bring a sick child into a hospital you already have enough stress. This hospital and their friendly staff try their best to reduce the stress levels. There can be waits at times but any hospital will have a waiting period it is the nature of a hospital to be seen in order of your ailment. I hope that you never need this facility or its staff but should you need it understand this is the place to go. There is parking close to the Emergency room, there is a parking garage for regular visitors, and across the street accessible via Skywalk/Bridge is an outpatient clinic for follow up visits. This allows the doctors to focus on the emergencies as well as the follow up visits. There are also some walls where construction is ongoing where the children that are in the hospital can write on the wall. If you can find space you or your child can write a message as well. I wouldn’t hesitate to bring my children here if needed

I really love this hospital, my child has received excellent care here. There's no way i can name everybody who has helped my daughter without leaving someone off. I'll just give a world of thanks to the cardiology dept for their care over the years, to the transplant and CICU for the care and professionalism recently. They are all wonderful and my daughter and her mom and i are eternally grateful. Thank You. PS - The food in the cafeteria is very good ;-)

Great staff answered all my questions my son was there for influenza and pneumonia they treated him great my son has autism and they made him relaxed monitored him 24 hours a day and gave him machines to help his sensory disorder I am very thankful for what they have done to get my boy better

You may receive good care at Primary Children’s hospital, you may also receive very bad, destructive and traumatic care. You may think that the hospital is a safe place for a sick child, but that is not always true. When doctors misjudge a patient and are poor doctors they have the ability to do a great deal of harm. I had two experiences at Primary Children’s hospital, one good and helpful, one horrendous and destructive. Please be aware that if you get the wrong doctor or the wrong team your visit could spiral into a disaster. I had read the good and bad reviews, but I thought issues like in the bad reviews could not happen to me. I am a nice, middle class, Mormon mom. I am a model citizen and it happened to me and my sweet, smart, very sick daughter. If it can happen to us it can happen to you, please beware. My daughter was admitted for treatment for a secondary complication of a bowel obstruction she had suffered from for many months. A diagnosis was made remotely using images from our local hospital. She went in for treatment. When we got there they decided she did not have the condition they had said she had and then they decided she was not sick at all and had never had a bowel obstruction and that she was just severely mentally ill. The gastroenterologist Dr. Wheeler disregarded all evidence and everything that had been done during previous visits and started taking me out of the room for “meetings” so that the behavioral health team could be alone to press my extremely sick, so weak that she can only lay in bed, daughter about any potential trauma or abuse that would back up their theory that she had conversion disorder. Which is an extremely rare disorder that my daughter had none of the symptoms of. The psychiatrist, Dr. Brewer came to my daughter’s room and told her with no proof or evidence that she had conversion disorder. She googled it, ordered him out of the room and became so upset that her doctors did not believe her and thought that she was mentally ill that she had a psychological crisis, with residents being called to the bed side because she was being labeled as suicidal. I can not explain how awful it was, it was devastating, traumatic and it left a sick girl with no choice, but to go home without care. To make matters worse Dr. Brewer’s office then called my daughter’s counselor to tell her that my daughter had conversion disorder, no medical symptomology and that I was angry. We could not even leave the hospital to get away from their hurtful care. They called our care providers at home to continue the trauma. The counselor was immediately suspicious and we were able to sort everything out, but we were left totally unsure of what to do and how to care for my extremely ill daughter. Luckily for us, the medical community in our own home town rallied around my daughter, rose to the occasion and gave my daughter far superior medical care to any that she received at Primary Children’s despite the fact, that they are not pediatric specialists. They have found us a new hospital that is willing to take my daughter and help her with treatment. You have to know if you are going to Primary Children’s hospital, something like this could happen to you. We did everything right, my daughter was a model patient and she given horrific, traumatic and damaging care.

Went in for ER visit for baby girl. I knew it would be expensive because of my type of insurance. NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $1500 FOR IBUPROFEN, A NASAL SWAB AND A DOC WHO SAID "HMM I'M NOT SURE WHAT IS GOING ON". Disappointed and distressed dont begin to explain it. If they are so crazy expensive at least have someone come talk to u before they stick a cotton swab up your baby's nose and charge you $628 for it. Worse part, had i known i would have bought a $10 ibuprofen OTC and have the same outcome.

My daughter has been suffering from severe seizures for the last few weeks do to a fall semester we're sent to primary children's where from the minute we walked in the staff was so friendly and caring my daughter had a few perticular nurses and techs on her care team that went over and beyond in caring for my scared one year old I highly recommend this hospital to everyone best experience ever

To be honest, when we first found out that our 4 year old daughter had Chiari 1.5 and would need surgery, I looked up Dr. Brockmeyer and I wasn’t impressed with the reviews I saw, so I actually made other appointments around the country-including New York and Boston. I wasn’t about to have someone who was mediocre, so brain surgery on my daughter, however, we happened to speak to 3 different people who had dealt with him personally and they could not say enough good things about him. My husband and I decided to at least meet with him and see how we felt. I put so much prayer and fasting into this that when we finally met him, I felt peace. He was so kind, so sharp, so knowledgeable, and so confident (just like you would want someone who was cutting into your baby’s head to be) that we felt so good about him. I had written out 17 questions, all of which he answered so well-I had so much trust and confidence in him from that first encounter. We scheduled the surgery date and even moments before they wheeled her off to surgery, he came down to speak with us and we had a last minute question about the patch he was using and we even asked him if he would consider a different technique. He was kind, patient, and explained so eloquently that he had done hundreds of these procedures and that he was skilled in doing either method, but that he felt the current way he was doing it had a greater success rate, but he would go with whatever method we preferred. After the surgery, he came to tell us that everything went so smoothly and that he was also able to drain a cyst she had had in the back of her brain as well and just opened everything up for her. I just hugged him and thanked him for taking such good care of our precious daughter. She was in the hospital for 4 says after the surgery and he came in every single morning to check on her and sent his resident to check on her a few times throughout the day as well. My daughter was one of the unlucky ones who ended up getting chemical meningitis, so he got her on steroids right away and it cleared it right up and now she’s home and doing so well. Dr. Brockmeyer was amazing! I cannot say enough good things about him. The incision he did was tiny (3 inches) and perfect as well. I’m so grateful we went to him and used him as our daughter’s surgeon.

Just say no to the students. We came in the middle of the night and our experience was terrible. Students were awkward and seemed more interested in poking our baby more than helping her. One ran a test then the other did the exact same one for no reason. The only person I trust is the nurse. Outside of that it was terrible. If you want advice you should train your students beside manners and how to talk to patients. On top of that get more beds. You are always getting more money from donations but where does it go? The hospital is out dated and there wasn't enough private rooms.

Spent 8 hours in the ER just for something that they couldn't treat. Staff and doctors where very nice, but I had to wait 8 hours for diagnosis in a 60° room. If you are planning to visit, bring blankets and cards, because you are in for a long day.

My almost one-year-old son just had an orchiopexy and I couldn't be more happy with the care he (we) received. He saw Dr. Cartwright who made my husband and I feel comfortable with the process. In addition, the facility was nice and the nurses were very personable; it was obvious they take great pride in their careers. When we were able to go see our son in recovery, the nurse was holding him, which was so much more personal to me than walking in to find him laying on a bed. I can't thank them enough for making this process a little less scary for new parents.

Negative stars should be optional! PCH ER failed my child. The admit staff was professional and timely, however standard of care became nonexistent once in E R. My child was sent to PCH ER from another ER after being assessed and determined to need follow up care by specialized department. After hours of waiting, the resident who spent less than 12 minutes with my child sent us back home. The attending physician barely spoke to me , did a very cursory evaluation and left the room without a word- unprofessional at best. We were treated like a waste of their time, not taken seriously and no listened to. We are not uninsured people abusing a system we were sent to them for care and received none.

Was in the critical NICU visiting family... i have always respected nurses and doctors for the work that they do... but the lack of basic caregiving knowledge that the staff and doctors have is mind blowing and instead of fixing it they cover it up. For example once the parents start talking about there experiences to one another they move them to another room... they have the HR hotline that you can contact but it just a way for the hospital to cover its butt. Nothing ever happens. They keep doing the same stuff... their favorite word is “I’m sorry”. If you go to this NICU you go to see your baby get put through tons of studies where students come in and use your baby as a class project and eventually they die. I will never never forgive primary children’s for what they did!

A few weeks ago we unfortunately had to take our son to Primary Children's Hospital. We didn't want to go to our local ER because of bad services we had experience there before. We decided to make the drive to Primary Children's and man was it worth it. The second we walked in we were welcomed and checked in. It had been a rough night and I was an absolute emotional mess because my son had had a fever over 104 for a few hours. He was acting odd and I was just so worried. The nurses and receptionists were the absolute best to work with. I told the receptionist what had been happening with him and she was just so sweet and made me feel so much better. This is our only child so we are just learning as we go and we weren't sure if his symptoms were even severe enough to go to the hospital. But the receptionist, nurse and doctor reassured us that we were doing the right thing. Something that is so appreciated!! We waiting probably 3 minutes to be taken back. Then probably 5 minutes to be seen by the doctor. It was the best!! They were so attentive and kept making sure we were okay. The doctor was amazing!!! I cannot remember his name but he was one of the best doctors I've worked with! I even joked about changing peditricians so we could be seen by him instead of my local pediatrician! He was so informative about what my son had. He was patient with all of our questions and never made us feel dumb for all the questions we asked. I hope I don't have to go back to an ER soon but if I do have to I'll definitely be making the drive up there because it's so worth it! Best customer service!

If your child has RSV, my advice would be to take them elsewhere. My child was repeatedly sent home and had to come back due to continued illness. Medical team puts large amounts of pressure on parents to take children home on oxygen. They treated us like overly concerned parents and brushed off our concerns about the status of his sickness several times. We reached out to patient satisfaction and they did not help (for those of you being recommended for that). I have never taken the time to write a review for anything before and just hope that other parents can be more informed than we were. Even if the doctors pressure you or don't listen to you, follow your gut!

I absolutely LOVE having a children's hospital here. I live about an hour away and will still take the time to drive to their ER if my child needs a doctor. After taking my son to a local ER for some fairly scary symptoms and getting no answers I was very frustrated. When the symptoms starred again the next weekend I took him to PCH and they did a complete work up, gave us some possibilities of what could be causing it, and got him scheduled with the appropriate specialist. In fact they even had the fellow for that dept come look at my son that night just to make sure it was safe to go home. This doctor was AMAZING and really took his time listening which made this nervous momma feel MUCH better. We are very lucky to have PCH in the valley, so if your child needs care from more then their pediatrician please rake the time and go here!

Great service and hospitality. It was a very uncertain time for us with our daughter. Her health was critical and everyone was really attentive and compassionate. There are three cafes to chose to eat in. There's the Ronald McDonald House which provide free meals and other amenities which help take the load off like washer dryers and areas for privacy. They have a room called school zone that kids can go pick out a free book and there's a lot to chose from. They have a music room that's very therapeutic. There's also a science room with lots of fun activities. Alot goes into the service provided. And of course they have therapy dogs that are extremely helpful and cheered our daughter right up.

My son was lifeflighted here from a rural hospital after a very scary seizure. He was unresponsive and the lifeflight team was amazing! They placed an iv when no in the ER could, were so informative on what they were doing and did everything they could to make sure there was room for me on the helicopter. When we arrived we were taken to the ER, where the staff was so kind. They took us back for chest X-rays and were so nice to my scared 20 month old who was lethargic and didn’t know where he was was. We ended up inpatient for a high fever and unknown cause. They were on top of his meds, the nurses were good about always checking on him, and his neurologist and students explained everything in such an understandable way! They made us feel so much better after a very scary incident. They had us come back for an EEG and got it scheduled very quickly, and the staff there were so kind and understanding as well.

Have always been impressed with Primary Children's. I had an internship here years ago and it was fabulous. Now that I have a family of my own I have taken my daughter here a few times and have received great care. Only thing I think needs to be improved is the communication at the end of the visit. My little family was left waiting for an hour after an ER visit and were never told what we were actually waiting for. It was 2 am and we wanted to go home so more communication would have made the visit much better.

My daughter fractured her arm in 3 places. Everyone was so nice and informative. I appreciate everything they did for my daughter. The money was not even a main concern for them at all. This was really the best care you could get for your child. I am thankful for every step of care they gave me. So thankful.

Been with primary since my son has been born. I feel they have done unnecessary surgeries and treatments for complications they caused, but they constantly rotate doctor's so you never get the same team or get to talk to the same people. When you go in for an appointment you will have to see at least two students before the actual doctor, so you have to explain everything about three times and when you are there to get answers it's very unethical of them. There has only been a handful of doctors I can say I was happy with out of our eight years of experience with primary children's who actually made us feel like they listened to our concerns and helped to get the right treatments.

Update: 2/5/19 Come to find out on the first stay at the hospital when my daughter went into DKA she dropped in hemoglobin 3 points and all the blood work was done but nobody thought it was important to look into where her blood went. In fact, Primary Children't sent us home with not even mentioning that she was anemic (hemoglobin from a 12.4 to a 9) and not even telling us to follow up with the pediatrician.. She was sick for 3 months and after this hospital stay 1 month later we were back in the ED with no answers and the physician then told me she was slightly anemic and if she needed iron he would give me a dosage. He never did, he told me he made her an appointment with Gastro and that never even happened. I called gastro a few days later and they said they had no record for my daughter. It took finding a pediatrician who would listen to me in the Granger system to finally tell me how anemic my daughter was and prescribe her iron pills. She spent 3 months withering away when all Primary Children's Hospital needed to do was look at their lab results and follow up with an iron study and consult with hematology. Thanks to her new pediatrician my daughter is on the mend but will take many more months because Primary Children's Hospital messed up and will not admit it. They pretty much told me that if my daughter had lost an arm or something more serious. My response was oh I am so sorry that my daughter only lost 3 months of her life and the worse Christmas ever because you guys failed to look at your test results you ordered and do nothing with them. One of the patients rights is that a patient has the right to understand all test results that are taken. We were never even informed of this test and that most of her test results from this day came back abnormal. We could have started iron a month earlier and not made my daughter worse. Be very careful when you take your child to this hospital. Ask for a copy of the Patient's Rights and ask to see test results and stay on top of what is going on, and even that won't guarantee anything because I do that and they still missed this. That day I specifically told the nurse that she was presenting new symptoms that were different from before and the nurse pretty much said look if you want to stay another night in the hospital to relax I completely understand. She must have thought I enjoy paying ridiculous amounts for health care and that I enjoy having a child in the hospital while I sleep on a plastic sofa. No, I was worried about my child and as any mother knows I was right!! Go with your gut and don't let them talk you out of it!! Not worth it. They don't listen to you and then when you get the discharge info they tell you that you must be seen at a specialist within a week and I even had a doctor call me back and tell me he talked to the specialty team and nobody called me and so I called to schedule an appointment and they are 3 months booked out while my daughter is sitting at home suffering because the doctors don't care about following through with what they said they would do. I have to use this hospital because my daughter is a diabetic and nobody else understands diabetes like primary children's but it has become too much of a monopoly and they don't care about the patient they care about getting people in and out and worrying about what they think it is instead of listening to the parent who understands their child. I have no way of getting a hold of the ED doctor to try to get him to schedule my daughter an appointment at the specialist which means that I guess my child will be missing 3 months of school. All because a stupid doctor doesn't do his due diligence. I hate going to this facility after a month of my daughter being sick and missing school I have no faith in doctors anymore! How can 8 doctors not find out what is going on, it is troubling to me. She is in so much pain and nobody is willing to help unless she is in DKA and then all they do at the ED is help get her out of DKA and send us home with no new answers of what is going on!

We brought our little girl to Primary Children's ER last night because we have had such a high opinion of the hospital and what it was done for a lot of sick kids. Our experience, however, was much different. We waited for a almost a couple of hours in the waiting room to be taken back. The room we were in was a little chilly, so we took our coats off to cover our little girl to keep her warm. We asked for a blanket, which was never brought. In the 4 1/2 hours we spent there we only spoke with the doctor about 5 minutes or less. The rest of the time was waiting for nurses to follow up on what the doctor had said to do. There seemed to be a lack of communication as to what was going on. What we came in for could have taken an hour at the most. We were there 4 1/2 hours, and it would have gone on much longer if we hadn't gone out to the nurses station several times to ask if they were going to do what the doctor asked. The bed could have been freed up for another patient much sooner if there had been a more organized system in communicating with the doctor and nurses. I gave them 2 stars because when we were able to interact with the doctor and nurses they were friendly.

We have been here for many out patient treatments. We really like that we can put our son in a red wagon and pull him around. That is a lot more fun than riding in his stroller. We also like the Healing Garden just outside the North Entrance. The water features were nice.

I was thoroughly disappointed in our visits at Primary Children's visit! This was supposed to be the place that kids could go to feel heard and safe and provide some of the most knowledgeable doctors there are. We went to visit for a possible hernia and were told that there was NO WAY that he didn't have a hernia, and scheduled a surgery. In the middle of the surgery they came out and told my boyfriend he didn't have a hernia at all! The doctor pulled us inside and flat out told us how sorry she was that she was wrong and doesn't know how she could have been wrong, and she wouldn't even charge me for the procedure if she could. After I got my son home he told me all about how he was scared going under anesthesia and had asked them to wait and was crying for his mom and they ignored him and just made him put on the mask. I understand that kids get scared and nervous but a nurse had come into the office before surgery and assured him that she would hold his hand, but instead they ignored him! He doesn't even want to go to the doctors anymore because of this experience. *all they needed to do was reassure an 8 year old!* They sent me to the "advocate" after who said that she would help me and i got a letter a few weeks later (that was sent to the wrong address) saying that there is nothing they can do and I am responsible for all of the expenses! They have now traumatized my child as well as hurt us financially. TERRIBLE experience! I would NOT recommend Primary Children's.

Atrocious. I finally understand why so many people scoff at local fundraisers and it only took one experience. Honestly though, tell me how YOU would feel after bringing your 2 month old in because there was dark/red discharge in her diapers, waiting 5 hours in a hospital room, going through lab tests and x-rays (all state of the art, I might add), seeing "the doctor" for 90 seconds halfway through, and being told at the end, "Yup, it's blood. Dunno why though. Follow up with a pediatrician." Oh, and being charged?!!! Now, the staff was more than pleasant, granted; they gave us a self-pay discount as we aren't covered, great! But we paid the labs, the DR., the x-ray, $353 the day of, but because "the severity of the emergency was upgraded while you were there", we still owed $700 more by the time the smoke cleared. HOW?!? AND FOR LITERALLY ZERO ANSWERS???? YOU WANT MORE MONEY????? Now we did dispute it and were walked through the process in a kind and courteous fashion, but the bill was reduced only by $300. Now we are grateful for that, don't get me wrong, but that's still a pretty expensive "your guess is as good as mine" . . . And they still insist we pay. Nobody hires a guy to do their porch, pays in advance, at the last second is told "can't actually do that", and let's the guy walk off with your money. I'm perfectly alright paying for answers and "expert" help, but not this. Making monthly installments under duress . . .

Our daughter has had asthma for 2.5 years. Today she had an severe episode and our primary care doc with 40 years experience said to bring her in. So we did.... Only to have the Dr tell us another patient was getting asthma treatments at home for a cold which wouldn’t work. We didn’t realize he also thought we were that dumb as well, because another hospital staff member told us that he thought our kid also only had a cold which is absurd. The most frustrating part is we told him that we had already given her multiple treatments at home which we were concerned were not working but had actually started to kick in which is why she wasn’t wheezing. Then we had the “respiratory specialist” come in and note that our daughters stomach and throat were pulling to bring in air, and want to do an asthma treatment and then tell us that she didn’t think she was actually having an asthma attack. Then we were billed $359 for approximately 5 minuets with a dr who didn’t really listen and 3 minuets with the respitory specialits who listen to the dr not us, and nearly 3 hours of our lives we will never get back waiting for 6 minuets if professional opinion. I honestly want our money back if that were an option. We thought we would try Primary Children’s as it’s closet to our house, don’t think we’ll ever be back.

I went in with suspicion of my daughter having pneumonia. I checked in through the emergency room. Once I got to the back they had me waiting forever; I stepped out to ask someone about how much longer before my daughter is seen. Before I could ask anyone, Dr. Douglas S. Nelson said to a nurse as if I couldn’t hear him, “if she closes that door and stops this damn beeping I will eventually go in to see that baby”. Once I heard that I refused care from him because I didn’t feel my daughter was safe or going to be cared for properly by this doctor. I then left the hospital and I will continue to file complaints and grievance with both my insurance and the hospital until something is done about this because that was unexceptable.

This E.R. is TERRIBLE. We have been coming here for years and I can't believe how bad their quality is lacking. Unprofessional staff. We've been here an hour and no one has even come into our room at all. We were sent here by another ER because he needed more detailed workup for an infection in his face that has been spreading significantly in the last hour and they act like he is not important. If this wasn't the only children's hospital close to us I would never step foot in this ER again.

I am so angry and disappointed with Primary Children's Hospital. My baby had to have a PICC line and TPN. They had to change the IV dressing two times in a 24 hour period because it kept unsticking. The PICC line got infected with Klebsiella. This is most likely a result of not following strict protocol when addressing central lines. I have observed over the past year of several hospitalizations with my child that nursing care is inconsistent and communication among nurses, residents and doctors is ineffective. With each visit, I have always felt like I have to speak loudly to get anyone to listen. The hospital has these giant posters posted throughout the building about zero harm and it's laughable and hypocritical. I have researched PICC line infections to discover that the majority of cases are preventable and some hospitals have even achieved zero infection rate by following very strict protocol with central lines. I do not believe a strict protocol was followed with my son. He had been struggling with diarrhea and diapers were always changed in his bed. when the nurses came in to change the PICC line dressing, both times the bedding was never changed. In fact, my baby was always laying on a chuck and they didn't bother even changing the chuck before beginning the process. I only thought about this in hindsight and would've spoken up if I had realized at the time. I would expect stricter policies on that. Also, in my research, I learned how serious these central line infections can be. My son could have died! On a positive note, if it hadn't been for the nurse, Lisa Nelson, being concerned with an elevated heart rate and diligently reported it to the doctors, it would not have been caught so early. I am grateful for her concern and care. She should receive huge praise and should be considered for a huge raise! In conclusion, if I could have another choice in my son's medical care, I would not choose Primary Children's Hospital but we are required to complete all of his procedures there due to his cardiac condition. I hope you take this as a lesson to really reevaluate your policies and procedures. I would love to see Primary Children's Hospital as a premier facility for pediatric care but currently that is far from what I have experienced. Thanks again, Lisa for saving my sweet baby's life! As for the hospital, you can keep your zero harm posters.Two stars for the handful of nurses, doctors, and staff who cared and zero stars for the hospital in general. Please, please fix this and get better food and accommodations (comfortable chairs for long hospital stays) for overly worried parents for heaven's sake!

Took my daughter here in February 2018 love the picu staff but when we were sent to the floor the last nurses we had for that stay not very good they did a room air trial on my daughter she obviously didn’t pass but they said she did she was sent home that day I asked to see the doctor before going they would not call the resident for me I left but had oxygen at home with a pulse ox machine called my doctor and had to put my daughter back on 1 litter of oxygen and ween her. That made me very mad but it was that 1 nurse all other nurses were supper amazing. I also had to go back in March/April 2018 again the picu nurses doctors amazing I will never go anywhere else we were moved to the floor the residents on the floor super amazing loved them there were 2 nurses this stay that were even worse then the last month I was there I give them. 5 star because of how amazing the staff is but they do have some nurses that need to be trained better

Love the staff but customer service has changed dramatically. I have to call every day to follow up on basic requests like prescriptions, appointments, etc. Every call comes with a 15-30 min wait to speak to people who seem like customer service reps not medical professionals. Since when did Primary's turn into a corporate penny pincher instead of a hospital?

Great hospital... Unfortunately my kid had to be life flighted there but the life flight team were awesome they even came to see my kid the next day to make sure she was ok... Also i would really like to thank Jeff our night time nurse... He was amazing always made sure i was ok and constantly making sure i was informed and my daughter was comfortable... I cant thank all the people in the PICU that helped my daughter enough... Such amazing and awesome group of people that work in the PICU... Could definately tell they had my daughters best interest at heart... Again special thanks to our night time nurse. He was a true god send.

I took my 21 month old daughter with high fever (3days). We already had seen two pediatricians. Anyways after she’s been on antibiotics for ear infection and no results, we took her to the ER and it was most probably the worst experience I have ever had with doctors. We were there for two hours and they would not do anything. They would come into the room take her vitals and tell all this stuff they will do but nothing. I asked several times the nurse what was going on and all they’d say is “we are very busy”.. finally after 2 and half hours I said I’m leaving. As soon as I was about to walk out the door, everyone was available, the doctor and nurses and they finally did what they were supposed to do. I’m still disgusted with the whole experience.

Pretty strange business... These folks really, really wanted to give my 6 year old morphine and oxycodone. After a simple surgery to put a couple of pins in my sons broken humerus the fella in the recovery room was greatly in favor of giving my guy morphine, I said, lets just try the Tylenol and see how he does; in 20 minutes my boy was chatting and watching cartoons. Then the nurse Bret comes in with the Oxy prescription and starts explaining it to mom. Again I chimed in that we should try to stay away from that, didn't get demanding, just gave a no-vote. Bret got visibly offended and gave some justification about better healing if there was no pain, I RESPECTFULLY disagreed (but was still open to it if he was in serious distress) and she left after saying we could take our boy home in a few minutes. Then another nurse came in and gave a story about a delay in the prescription. A waiting game started, until I went out and started asking if they were hoping to just wait me out so they could privately encourage my x-wife to give our kindergartner highly addictive drugs (again, I was flexible on it, just felt we should avoid it if possible). They sheepishly got the prescription together and hustled us out. Our son was fine afterward with just the Tylenol, and not just bearing it, he was fine, smiling, playing video games on an ipad, didn't need to be doped up or potentially pre-disposed to the addiction that's tearing this country apart right now. Also, I wanted to ask the surgeon a few questions afterward - no way, the people on the phone behaved as though that was an absolute impossibility... which I though was strange. They did do an efficient job of patching up the boy's arm and billing the insurance though.

Children are in great hands at Primary's! When my then-newborn was treated for gastrointestinal problems, the doctors were so kind and helpful in coming up with a suitable formula for him. They taught us how to supplement goat milk with the right nutrients so that he could have milk that's easier on his stomach than commercial formula. One year later, my baby is strong, happy, and very smart! I send my thanks to Allison Bunnell, the nutritionist in the infant unit for helping my son! I also thank Rose, the best nurse ever! And the doctors - I wish I could remember your names, but you are the kindest people on the planet!

I think this hospital is okay I grew up at this hospital basically from I was only 1 day old until I was almost 19 years old but the reason why I only give it 3 stars cause I remember going there with my friend and her son. We waited for along time it stuck like puke in the waiting room and when I was little they did some blood work they had to take everyone in my family's blood and they had go poke my sister twice cause they used the wrong size of needle and so it brused my sisters arm for days. I think they should clean up that hospital

My son is 8 weeks old he was lifeflighted to primary children's. The week before he was lifeflighted he was hospitalized at Utah Valley and they were amazing, they ran tests and did everything to find out what was wrong with my son. They did a live ultrasound with primary children's they concluded that his digestive system was working slower than normal. Our regular Dr. Diagnosed him with "failure to thrive", because he was vomiting a lot, he was not gaining enough weight. And the slow digesting was most likely the cause why. He was lifeflighted to primary children's the week after all this, because he went pale white, non responsive, and eyes rolling to the back of his head. The Dr. at primarys was only focusing on the weight gain and failed to run tests up there. Our regular hospital ran some tests before he was lifeflighted came back normal but some tests they could not run due to not having the resources. Anyways I hated the Dr. at primarys she refused to listen, she was disrespectful basically called us liars and how she did not see anything wrong with him except "failure to thrive". Anyways he started doing weird things with his eyes and going white I went and got "our nurse" she told me to videotape that so they could see. I don't have time to videotape it if it's seizures he would need medical attention not a videotape. We had a social worker come in and said "I heard you are not happy with the care"?, we said "no, because the Dr. and the nurse will not listen". I said "they wont run tests to find out what is wrong with my son". He then has the nerve to say "they have ran tests". I looked at him and "said no they have not, but Utah Valley did last weekend and found this wrong". He then asked "have you been here the whole time"? I said "yes we only have left to get food". He left said "he would come by the next day". That same night me and my fiance decided to go get dinner from the cafeteria, we were not gone long we walked into my son's room and he was laying in vomit, the same nurse came running in admitted she knew he puked, but did not expect us back that soon. I am beyond livid you people are supposed to be taking care of kids, what if my son would have choked?. Social worker never came back, Dr. never ran tests and that nurse acted like we were the plague. We then seen that nurse when she was switching shifts and told the nurse coming on shift to leave my son's iv in even though they have not used it once, so when he is weighed he weighs heavier. That is false weight you should be real proud of your nurse trying to falsify weight gain. The Dr. discharged us the next day and everytime I brought up the slow digesting she said no not the case. Utah Valley has the test results for proof. I will never go back here or recommend this hospital to anyone. My son has to see a gastrointestinal specialist even though the Dr. At primarys said "no he is digesting fine". And the gastrointestinal specialist will not be from that hospital. We did have some great nurses and techs though and I will recognize them.

This doctor (Stephanie Spanos, MD) came in and met with us briefly (less then 5 minutes) and didn't even exam our child. She came into our room with a medical mask on that she didn't remove. She gave us a lecture on child behavior (which I am aware of as a licensed clinical social worker and one who has worked as a child therapist), and said that our daughter was "having a temper tantrum" and "testing boundaries," I would not have taken my daughter to the emergency department for a temper tantrum. As a parent you know your child and are able to recognize when their behavior is abnormal. She stated that per the resident her throat was red which may indicate an infection but provided no answer and/or explanation other then that. She stated that we were fine to be discharged, we were out of the ER within an hour. Our daughter woke up again that night wailing in pain for several hours. She was 21 months at the time, so she was not able to articulate what was going on with herself physically.They did not even run ANY blood work to see if she was fighting an infection. The provider had absolutely no bedside manner. I hate to give one star to a facility but I am absolutely aghast at our experience. The nurse and the resident doctor were great, however, Dr. Spanos (the fully licensed practitioner) left nothing to be desired. We left with literally NO answers, no diagnosis, a lecture, and a bill. Yes, even with insurance (not a high deductible plan) the provider billed us $335 for her less then 5 minute conversation where she literally did not even touch our child or exam her herself. Based on this experience I give one stars, however, since it is the only children's hospital there are unfortunately no other options. If you need to go and Dr. Spanos walks into the room request a second opinion, i wish we would have.

Such an amazing environment and the staff is amazing so kind and caring. And always ready to go above and beyond for the littles they care for.. 1 negative is-- I took my kiddo in for a same day procedure and of course it is nothing to eat or drink for hours prior to getting there, they put you in these rooms with a glass wall looking out you see nurse station. Thats great but they stand there infront of counter eating and drinking. So your 5yr old child is crying they are hungry and thirsty. not cool at all.. it would be nice if they kept it behind the counter where kids are not able to eye it the entire 2 hrs they are waiting. I don't expect them to not have it as some one who is in the medical field I understand it's needed but please keep it out of the child's eye view !!

I was not informed or treated for anything that showed up in testing both at their E.R. or surgical follow-up appointments. I am still dealing with the consequences of their medical negligence today. Please ask to be allergy tested before major surgeries. My surgeon in Nevada was shocked Primary Children's didn't perform a simple allergy test before surgery, and said he has never heard of another hospital not doing that before placing steel bars in someones chest for pectus excavatum. They are still not conducting allergy testing, and will not treat or inform you of serious health problems after surgery, because they don't want to admit they made a mistake.

Discriminatory against fathers. I have joint custody with my Ex. Either Primary Children's Same Day Surgery doesn't have a correct policy or they are not following policy. Complete failure to share information when my daughter was in surgery. I couldn't get a report on when my Daugher was out of surgery. (This is a HIPAA violation - I'm a male nurse who taught on HIPAA when it came out) Complete failure to correct the matter when I was talking to several people. Couldn't be bothered to get me a social worker for HOURS. Simply asking to talk to someone in a civil manner was apparently "intimidating" enough that they put security out to watch me. I'm wondering if complaints need to be filed with DOPL against the licenses of those professionals. Finally, they told me they would do a discharge discussion at the very END of 5-6 hours of nail-biting for a worried father. This is completely unacceptable. All in all, this was a pretty horrible experience. And the unfortunate fact that PCH has a "monopoly" on Pediatric medical care means that this needs to be seriously corrected.

When my son was diagnosed with epilepsy at PCMC the neurologist was very abrupt in breaking the news and scared us with the list of things he won't be able to do, but gave us little useful information. Each time I called to report another grand mal seizure I was given a medical assistant or nurse to talk to. The neurologist has never actually spoken to us in almost 2 years since the diagnosis. Fortunately we have had good visits with the nurse practitioner and she has been the one to call us about medication changes and to order testing. Seizures are now under control and the nurse practitioner has moved to a different position, so we are basically left high and dry now. Over a week ago I called to ask questions about possible medication side effects, and was told that I would get a call back that day. Nobody called. After a week I called again....telling them it was regarding medication side effects, which seems like it might be an important topic for a physician to address, and was PROMISED a call back by the end of the day. Yep, three days later and I have had no call. All this while we are sacrificing to pay for multiple $8000 EEGs. (Btw, for these tests I was required to stay in the room with my son for approximately 20 hours each time.... except to go to the cafeteria to buy food since I wasn't allowed to order food for myself from room service, that was only for the patient. You would think when I am being billed $500 for a doctor to come in for 5 minutes to say hello to my kid that they could at least give me a damn sandwich for "free"). Extremely disappointed in our care and nervous about how to find a new neurologist when there are none in our community (we have been traveling almost 100 miles for each visit and test at PCMC).

I was severely dissatisfied with the service and treatment I received here. I am a cancer patient and my immune system isn’t the best by any means. It took 2 1/2 hours to get a simple procedure done, a procedure that doctors in my hometown would have completed in one. There were three people (including one nurse) in the clinic who were coughing without masks and not covering heir mouths. I couldn’t believe it. It might be a cough to you but it could kill me. It was completely ridiculous. My doctor had neglected to even read over my history and was curt and rude to me. The clinic was disorganized and confusing. I was treated like a number, and not a person. I do not recommend, in any way shape or form, this hospital. Go elsewhere.

Fortunately my family was blessed & grateful that Utah Primary Children’s Hospital was equipped with the necessary technology to take care of my little soldier. From Staff hospitality to Cleaners, they really take care of not only your child but your entire family. In the entrance it says “Child first & always” that is exactly how we have felt here. They go above & beyond to make your child feel soooo loved! They bring the holidays to you eg: (We had Santa come into the NICU for Christmas photos for babies like mines that won’t be home for a long time, Sacrament is brought to us every Sunday, Parents potluck every Wednesday where concerns and suggestions are brought up as you mingle with other parents finding strength in each other, Complimentary breakfast comes by every morning & so much more). They make first time mums like me feel relieved from a challenging time like this. As we draw closer to going home. I cannot find the right words to Thank the faculty/staff of this hospital for doing everything for my little soldier. We will miss this place & the wonderful friends we have made.

Last month we thought our baby had a spider bite. We took him to this hospital. They said it wasn't a spider bite and jumped to the conclusion of child abuse. Over a shadow on the X-ray they spent from 10pm tell 7am in the morning trying to get me to admit violently shaking my baby because I am a disabled combat vet with PTSD I must have violent outbursts. My PTSD I shut down I don't get violent episodes. They sent me an apology letter didn't even spell my name right. Even after the follow up and saw no abuse and admitted it was a shadow on the X-ray they tried to convince my wife for 3 hours that I'm a danger to her and our two boys. When my wife said I'm a loving husband they told her to never met me heat her say that. They have treated us so poorly with out any care and using the law as an excuse for their witch hunt, my wife wants to transfer her job and move states to get as far away from them as possible. So, if you are a combat vet with PTSD. Be prepared for being treated like a child and woman beater as soon as you walk through the doors.

I had a family member take her son who had a broken femur to your emergency room. The family was not treated well at all. Not every broken bone on children is due to abuse. Take heart and do not pass judgment. You have extended degrees in your fields, that is why you are working at this hospital. Do not look down at us because we do not have the knowledge you do. If we fed a child before bringing them in, we're sorry! We were not planning on surgery either. Our family has donated to your hospital AND we have made 2 trees at the Festival of Trees. No longer will our family be participating due to your mistreatment of our family, AND your staff ASSUMING the worst case scenario.

This hospital has an awful neurology department. My infant daughter has had eight tonic-clonic seizures in two months, three of which happened yesterday. Two of those three happened back to back with no recovery in between. I was told that if that happened to occur she needed to be seen as it constitutes an emergency. We live out of state, so we drove to our local E.R. and they called the neurologist on call at Primary Children's. The neurologist was uninterested and simply said to up her medication dose to 1.5 ml twice a day. She's currently taking 2 ml twice a day; so his advice was irrelevant. I was then told that they had nothing else to say about it. My hospital is small and does not have a doctor on staff capable of helping my child; so my baby received no care. The neurology department has continuously dismissed my baby and refused to allow her to be transferred from our hospital to theirs. I am now looking for a pediatric neurologist elsewhere; someone who actually gives a damn about their patients.

I took my one year old into the emergency because she was throwing up all over the place from her mouth and nose. Within a 30 minute span she threw up more than 5 times. The staff saw this and still said the wait was going to be 45 to One hour! “Yeah I was not going to keep watching my baby be in pain, throwing up for an hour. I took her into emergency for a reason not to sit there and keep watching time pass by with my daughter being sick. So we left and drove as fast as we could to Intermountain Hospital in Murray, where they had her checked right away.

World class hospital with a world class staff. The reasons to be here are rarely fun or good, but being in a hospital like this certainly makes it a little easier.
