Vary good hospital took great care of me.

W.C. Cannon

My elderly mother was airlifted to VUMC after a fall and experienced severe head trauma. EVERYONE that treated her was great! Empathic, caring doctors and nurses. Special shout out to the Emergency Department and the nurses and staff in Neuro ICU. My mother would not have progressed as fast as she has without the competent care she received. Thank you.

David Smith

Great staff, great facility.

Jennifer Herman

The worst Medical experience we ever had. Our first appointment they kept us waiting for two hours. When we went up to the desk somehow they had deleted out of system. Back for our follow up and again the doctor is running an hour and half behind. Every time we called to get surgery scheduled, it was an hour wait time on the phone. If you have another option I would go elsewhere.

Gwen Canfield

Could not have asked for more from the moment we walked in. From admitting to surgery, recovery to the 9th floor we were confident that my husbands’ recovery was the top priority. Our heartfelt thanks to all for the wonderful care!

Jennifer Wilson

Great facility. The people are always helpful and amazingly sweet.

Not sure why my last review is missing . One of the worst experience I had here . My wife got admitted here for c section . After delivery they moved us to a room where there is an AC without remote . It was freezing and my new born baby was shivering . I asked them multiple times to help , finally the lady rudely told me to stay in a cafeteria which was a public place with vending machine and microwave . My wife and 1 day old baby had to sit there for couple of hours . Now coming to their billing , I could not understand the system . I made a payment plan for all my dues . Every month I get a letter saying your account overdue , I call billing ask them , they say its all set up . Billing would never give any information on writing and next month I get a overdue letter again . Finally I asked patient relation to schedule all my payment and give me written confirmation . I got a written confirmation saying all my payment are set up I have zero due . But after email confirmation saying I have 0 dues they send my case to collection agency . I am trying to explain to collection agency that either its a system error or human error and I am still struggling to resolve this even after 15 months of my wife C Section in Vanderbilt . I would not recommend this place to anyone .

I had my first child here and there is a reason I did not go back to VUMC to have my second child. They let me labor for over 36 hours even after loosing the baby's heart beat multiple times. The person who did my epidural did not tell me he was a student and he missed putting it in correctly 2 times! The third time the actual doctor came in. I had to ask for a cesarean. Once I was out of the OR and feeding my child for the first time a nurse comes in and tells me they forgot to take the epidural needle out of my back after the surgery. Also, one of the pediatric nurses made me break down because I was having a hard time keeping up with how much my son wanted to eat and when I wasn't producing enough milk she made me feel like a terrible mother. HOWEVER, I did have the most fantastic labor nurse! Her name is Lauren and I can not boast enough about how wonderful she was. She helped me stay calm and helped me so much during those 36 hours.

Charles Smith

Rude employees talk down to you. The cafeteria is nasty as hell. No clean tables and food all over the tables. Overpriced food that is ok at best.

Lenora

Best treatment I have ever witnessed, and everyone was so kind and patient with my father-in-law!

Bobby Dial

Love this place they didn't only take care of my son they tried hard to help keep confidential information with place to shower etc. That's over there call for ,thanks again for your help!V

WORST hospital I’ve ever been to. In 2009 they sent me home with broke vertebrae & broken jaw that my general dentist found 2 weeks later AFTER my teeth kept feeling like they were falling out.....then life long problems with my back found 2-3 years later now have degenerative disk. This weekend my dad was life flighted to Vanderbilt due to car accident. I will say he has no health insurance...so I didn’t expect too much but a little concern would have been nice. He arrived at Vanderbilt around 11:00. He was lifeflighted due to head injury, pain in hips, and in back. He didn’t get CT scan until 4:30 A.M was laying in the room grunting with pain and did not receive any pain Medicine not even Tylenol. . . Around 6:30 they come in and said he had 3 broken vertebrae. Upper and lower broken jaws, still no medication for the pain. Finally at 8:00 I asked the nurse and DR if they were laying in the bed with broken bones flat on their back WOULD THEY WANT TO LAY THERE WITHOUT ANY PAIN MEDICINE. They brought pain medicine 1 hour later then moved him to trauma unit. They let him leave Saturday at 4:00 with no surgery, no back brace, nothing for his broken bones jaw or back. Whenever I broke my jaws in 2009 they had to have plates & wires shut and my break was not near as bad as his. He complained with chest pain the whole time also, no EKG or anything just let it all go. Also, no MRI of the brain and was sent for concussion & head trauma. Then released within 15 hours. Needless to say, he’s still at home in tons of pain can’t move hardly out of bed. We will never be back again and if I had the option he wouldn’t have went there in the first place. This place is a JOKE. Do not go, especially if you don’t have insurance because they will not take care of you!!! There is suppose to be no difference whether you have insurance or not but I promise you there is.

They were all okay but Allie in the ER was AWESOME! She went above and beyond to assure that I was as comfortable as possible. I have came across some nasty people in this profession but she is nothing like the horrible people I've dealt. It really made my heart smile while I was in the ER. I'm glad you guys hired her

Kevin S

Rescued one of my buddies from the ER once who had to get stitches, wildest night. Ever.

Soo slow. I have been waiting almost 8 hours for my grandma to get X-rays for her wrist. It’s currently 3:40 AM. One of the nurses told us a few hours ago that she was almost done but when an hour passed we asked another nurse, she said the same thing. So ridiculous. We couldn’t go back with her. The Adult Emergency Room needs a better system.

Suzanne Paquette

Great hospital. Doc's, Nurses and all the staff medical and mon medical are top notch.

Angela Guzman

Dr. Michelle Roach performed my D and C surgery due to me miscarrying. Prior to the surgery, she introduced herself and told me I would not be able to have children unless I had an additional surgery. After my husband and I asked questions, she went to check the chart and realized she mixed my diagnosis with another patient. Her staff at the hospital also did not completely perform the pathology test. I will now never know the gender of the baby I lost. Losing a child is traumatic and dealing with a bad doctor has been even more stressful and grueling. Would not recommend Dr. Roach for anything. In addition, the doctor had her nurse call me three months after my surgery because I finally posted reviews - not because she was concerned about me or owned her mistakes.

I was transferred from another ER for a dental abcess. I was advised at the transferring ER that I would be admitted and given IV antibiotics, which my CT scan showed the need for, in addition to a consult with the oral surgery team upon arrival. I was unaware that I would be waiting in the ER at Vanderbilt. When I arrived at the ER at Vanderbilt, reception was kind enough, but I had to go through triage again, then wait until I was put in a room with three other patients in it. I was asked personal information in front of these people, but that's not the worst of it, not by a long shot. They have an ED/ER doctor that evaluates you, apparently, but not even ibuprofen was offered for my high level of pain. While I appreciate the epdemic plaguing the country, I'm not an addict and don't want to be treated for a condition I don't have. About an hour after being placed on the "fast track," I met with two students from oral surgery; I had no problem with students treating me, but think it's something you should be made aware of. They were very kind, as was my attending nurse. They let me know they would be draining the abcess and would consider possibly removing the teeth at the core of the issue. I was placed in a procedure room where the students came in with who I assume was a supervising resident. The students were wonderful, the resident was cold. I was advised that they wouldn't be removing the teeth, as it's "not an emergency room procedure," but that they would happily cut my gum down to the bone. I cried as I told the resident I couldn't afford a dentist, or I wouldn't be in the position I was in. He didn't care. The shots I received in my mouth to numb me for the procedure were excrutiatingly painful, and please keep in mind I wasn't even given an ibuprofen prior to this procedure. They were willing to cut my mouth down to the jaw bone, leaving it exposed, cutting my gums between the teeth that were the issue, with an abcess next to my jaw bone, my mandible, but couldn't be bothered to remove the teeth while they were there. I won't go so far as to call it lethal neglect, but I will call it barbaric and brutal. Again, the students were compassionate and I believe they'll make excellent providers upon completion of their program, but the supervising resident had a conscience in la-la land. Now, I have to go through another round of shots in order to have the teeth pulled, and it's my church that came through, willing to pay for an oral surgeon to remove the teeth I need removed. After the procedure concluded, I was ushered back to the fast track room, my face swollen inches from the base, in excrutiating pain, and I'm told they recommended Tylenol for pain. Again, I take issue with being treated for a condition I don't have, which is what I assume they're doing now with patients and pain medication. I couldn't talk for the duration of my one hour ride home with my friend who was kind enough to pick me up, and she had to keep my toddler overnight. I went home shaking with pain so fierce, it compared with labor pain. I had chills. I couldn't talk. I could barely sleep. I asked the ER doctor to prescribe 800 mg ibuprofen tablets to me for pain, which she agreed to prescribe (if you need pain relief and you can't obtain anything else, this will do more than Alleve and just forget Tylenol). It barely touched the pain, but helped reduce some of the swelling. I remember the supervising resident telling me they've seen antibiotic resistance in some cases of infection, particularly with antibiotics prescribed for dental abcesses. Don't you think it'd be a better, let alone more humane, idea to address the cause of the infection, rather than keep patients who can't afford a dentist on a loop of antibiotics? Perhaps, just perhaps, this is part of the reason antibiotic resistance is being seen. Completely irrational. I take serious issue with how inhumanely I was treated. I may not be rich, but you should think more about how you're lucky to have patients to practice on in the first place. Go somewhere else.

Vanderbilt hospital has the worst employees people that works and housekeeping or and the cafeteria being sad that you're a patient from the hospital can you order something and you been getting your meal for 3 days in the same order and then tells you,you get the same thing it's so ridiculous about this and then also you have to talk to the supervisor to complete your whole jobon top of that you have to talk to all the supervisors from the team to give you what you want and that is so ridiculous that you cannot get the stuff

Venus Britton

I drove a friend to Vanderbilt University Hospital for consultation and after parking and needing directions to the proper clinic, I met J. Turner, assigned to direct traffic and pedestrian crossing, who was courteous, skilled and highly professional with her duties. A welcome presence when you're not familiar to the area and needing directions from a reliable source.

I would like to clarify up front that my review of VUMC is based on several interactions with this health care facility over several years, and not on one unfortunate experience. This is truly the most incompetent organization I've ever dealt with. The first two times I went was in two separate years for annual physical exams. Each time, it was a major hassle to get the lab results from the physical. Every time I would have to call to talk with someone about it, the person I needed to speak with was never available. My wife went there for a procedure early this year and was billed for something that was actually covered by insurance. She went ahead and paid it, not realizing it was covered at that moment. Major mistake. It took Vanderbillt three months to refund the money, and it was no small amount. She had to talk to them numerous times and explain the same thing over and over and over again before it was finally refunded. Each time, they would agree that the refund would be sent, yet they just were not able to get it right. Each time, when she would call again to check on it, it would turn out that they just hadn't done it; someone had always dropped the ball. My latest experience was my third (and last) physical exam at VUMC in March 2019. Ever since that visit, they have been sending me a $50 medical bill, though a physical is covered 100% by my insurance, as it is by all insurance in the U.S., as required by federal law. But Vanderbilt continued to send the bill month after month, though I continually talked with their phone representatives and they admitted that I was receiving this bill because they miscoded the procedure. By the time they actually fixed the coding issue and resubmitted it to my insurance, my insurer apparently thought it was a new charge, so I'm continuing to receive this $50 invoice, which I'm not paying, of course. I fully understand that human errors are going to occur in any organization, but for as long as this has been going on, I can only be left to believe that this is an intentional profit motive just to see how many people will actually pay these bills to make them leave you alone. Take my word for it, it's not even worth getting something as simple as a physical exam at this place. I will never come back to another Vanderbilt facility, even if it's an emergency and it's the closest facility. The hassle with this bunch is just not worth it.

Radiology Department The surgeons were wonderful. They were personal, knowledgeable and welcoming. My husband's main nurse was pretty nice and proficient. The one star is for a particular nurse who was negligent and rude. When she came into my husband's area she did not introduce herself. She started opening packages and placing heart monitor patches on his chest and instead of throwing the packaging in the trash she threw everthing on top of him like he was the trash can. She pulled out his IV while trying to clean up blood that spilled on his arm from a bad stick. Then she stuck him on the top of his hand to draw blood without a warning. He yelled when she did that. As soon as she had drawn blood for labs, the main nurse was told that labs were not needed for him. Really!!! Everything this nurse did was rude, rushed and negligent. She was very uncaring towards my husband as a patient and as a human being. She could have apologized for her mistakes. Another nurse did not stay to assist my husband with using the urinal, after his procedure which had him somewhat incoherent. My husband's overalls visit was pretty good, it's just these circumstances that never should have happened.

Very disappointed how they don’t let family’s know nothing!! Very very disappointed in the cleaning I was and am worried that good chance of staff infection because the room are dirty very dirty! They change trash but don’t wipe stuff down nothing!!

Kathy Exum

I can not brag enough on Trama 10 North. Words can't not explain how much you guys mean to me and my family. The dedication and care you provided my mother was absolutely outstanding. Thank you all so very much.

Tonya Long

The ER experience was horrible my son was flew there after a motorcycle wreck they don't clean you up you lay in whatever filth you have On you if it's blood or whatever. You can't see a doctor it's all interns which I know they have to learn but not in mine! He laid there 16 hours and they discharged him and we knew nothing! The nurses was good and friendly but never want to go there again!!!!

Kay Green

I have been a patient here several times. The ER is crazy busy and overall I would give it a 4 star rating. Inpatient would be a 5 star. My doctors and staff are top notch and very helpful. I would not go anywhere else.

Molly Bowers

I am very pleased with our stay at the Children's hospital. Dr. Doyle and the nursing staff were very friendly, and had awesome bedside manners. They were kind and patient with our 8 year old granddaughter, whom had a heart procedure. We do not get this kind of service in our home town. Was here in 2007 with my dad, a cancer patient and had awesome service and care as well. These people have a caring heart. Would recommend to anyone. The care we received was well worth the 5 hour drive.

Tristan Leslie

Waited here at the ER for 8 hours before getting a room while my wife was pregnant. Waiting room staff were nice enough but the process is slow and I’d go elsewhere for more urgent help.

Mark Lester

Received an estimate for elective surgery (full conversation was recorded). When bill came, it was dramatically higher (70%). I would not have agreed for this surgery if they had been transparent with costs. Wildly misleading. Discussed with billing department and patient relations with no proper resolution. Currently in process of contacting BBB and filing a formal grievance to hospital through insurance carrier. Any suggestions for contacting medical or hospital boards would be greatly appreciated. Note: will provide further updates here moving forward.

My wife has serious Vertigo. Getting an appointment for an Otolaryngologists at Vanderbilt is impossible. I first called and they told us we need a referral. We called our PCP, who is at Vanderbilt to get a referral. They put an order in for a referral and gave us the number to call back. We then called back and were told we need a referral from an ENT to see an ENT at Vanderbilt. No words. So we have to go see an ENT to be referred to an ENT. Last week I wanted to follow up with my ENT because my Vertigo had returned too, I sent a message through the appointment message they have online and never received a return call. Don’t waste your time.

Great

This is the worst hospital ever. They do surgery on things that weren't an issue. My step mom had to wait 9 hours for surgery scheduled at 2:30 p.m. They did not address the problem and tore her small intestine in the process. I hope someone sues them until they have no facility. Always go to St. Thomas Midtown if you want quality service. She has been waiting in a recovery room for over 12 hours after her wait for 7 hours for surgery. They did the same thing to my grandmother, over medicated and said she is old. Pathetic

I brought my mother into the hospital at 4:30a.m. to have a brain tumor removed. After dealing with that emotional stress all day, on very little sleep, my wife and I were finally able to fall asleep in my mother's recovery room at about 8:30p.m. Then, at midnight, we are woken by aggressive tapping by Charge Nurse Andrea Hopkins, telling us that either me, my wife, or both of us had to leave my mother's room, because only one person was allowed overnight. Again, she wakes us from a dead sleep at midnight to tell us this. To say I'm not impressed with Andrea's compassion or bedside manner would be a massive understatement. Pathetic. On a lighter note, Dr. Chambliss did an amazing job on my mother, and Jan, in ICU Patient Services is one of the sweetest and most positive people I've ever met in my life.

Greg Pierce

The best medical care in town.

Annette Freetage

My father in law is here for a back surgery and we have had a great all around experience in the ICU and with the medical team. The waiting areas are comfortable and both the cafeteria and cafe are fantastic. I would definitely recommend Vanderbilt and suggest using the free valet parking.

MrJkgnarly

I love this hospital and it's the only one I trust to go to. My specialist is always terrific and they fought torme to receive all the aid I needed.

Fraud alert Please don’t go to Vanderbilt medical center eye exam if you have uhc vision plan . They are out of network . But they lied to me . None of the representatives in call center gave me the exact information why are not they able to submit the claim. So after one n half yr I m going to pay the bill $400 out of my pocket !! Hope nobody will fall into their trap again

Bill Kass

My wife hasn't even seen surgery yet, but one thing is for sure, Vanderbilt is in it for the money! Every contact from Vanderbilt has been monetary, never medical. My wife has flesh-eating bacteria in her skull plate, they gave her a surgery date in 6 weeks, they won't prescribe any antibiotics or even talk to her. No bedside manners, they just want to be paid!

Chad Hughes

This is by far the worst hospital we have ever been to! My wife & I were traveling through Nashville on our way to Florida, and my wife became very ill. Since we were from out of state, I looked up the hospitals in the area and decided on Vanderbilt. We were very disappointed. I do NOT recommend this hospital for tourists or any other "out of towners". My first impression was that of a prison. There were actually armed security guards at the entrance, and we had to take all metal out of our pockets to go through medical detectors - just for the ER! It was like going through TSA - only we weren't flying or entering a federal building. The service inside wasn't much better. After waiting for over 2 hours, my wife finally got seen. However, I could not accompany her to the room because they have strict policy about not letting children under a certain age go back there. My daughter was 4, and I couldn't leave her by herself, so my wife was forced to go back alone. She was in a lot of pain, and after waiting for at least another hour, they told her that they could not prescribe anything for the pain, and that she would have to follow up with her regular doctor. We were 600 miles from home, and we wouldn't be back for over a week. In addition, she was upset, and couldn't even get a tissue. She had to walk around just to find a nurse so that she could get one. Then, she wanted to get in touch with me, but since I could not come back there my daughter and I had no idea that she needed me, and the nurses were not helping. Finally, a fellow patient had compassion on her and let her use her cell phone in order to call me. We finally just walked out. After a 3-4 hour ordeal, there was no diagnosis, no help, and the hospital had the gull to send us a $500 bill. No, I will definitely not recommend Vanderbilt University Hospital. Stay clear of this place - I would not even send my dog there! I love the state of Tennessee, but this hospital puts a horrible black mark over the city of Nashville. This is definitely NOT southern hospitality!

laura davis

I was at Vanderbilt with my boyfriend who was in hospital there . I have to give kudos to the staff there , from dietary , to housekeeping to nursing staff I have to say it the most cleanest hospital I have ever been in !!!! And I have work in a hospital before . The nursing staff on observation ward I have to give kudos to two very good ones , Morgan and Breanna they were superv !! And care partners Tnisha , lula were there when ever you needed them . I hope this is seen my administration to let them know what a awesome job everyone at Vanderbilt do

Tonya Martin

The best hospital and staff in the world. I wouldn't take myself or my loved ones anywhere else.

Austin Cole

10/10 would recommend! I cannot say enough nice things about Vanderbilt University Medical Center! I had surgery to have a very rare type of tumor removed. My surgeon, Dr. Carmen Solorzano, and her entire team were very competent and caring. They checked on me multiple times during my stay in the hospital, and continue to keep tabs on me. I stayed in the surgical intensive care unit in the critical care tower and my experience with everyone (resident physicians, nursing staff, even the housekeeping staff) was positive. There truly is no place quite like Vanderbilt. I'm thankful that I live close to a world class facility. They make my home town's hospital look like it's ran by a circus!

Burt Williams

My mother has undergone surgery here in 2018 and now is back for follow ups. She has had consistently excellent care for her cancer. We are great full to the doctors and staff. I highly recommend Vanderbilt Medical Center!

This place has TERRIBLE Communication. My stepdad was Admitted because he was leaning to the left. They did a CT scan. 1 dr. Thought it looked or appeared to be a bleed on the right side. The other dr. Thought it may be something else. They didn't give him his Blood Pressure medicine on Friday nor Saturday night. But, yet he had really high blood pressure. 150 - 180 and they did nothing. But wanted to give it to him the morning of Sunday but, he only takes it at night. They stated he needed an MRI but, wouldn't do this procedure until they received the Brand Name, Model Number of the clip.(we had the serial #) If the MRI was so important they sure didn't act like it was because they didn't do much demanding to get the correct information sent to them. My stepdad has had many MRI in the past since his clip was placed in. They wouldn't let my mother sign him out because they wanted to watch him. We could of watched him at the hotel for FREE. So, basically he sat in this hospital with no care. They didn't have him down as a stroke patient he had no help in his room. They wouldn't do another CT scan to figure out why he was leaning to the right. He has fascia where he gets confused a lot. He can't read. Terrible Hospital.... If you're a stroke patient go to the Tristar Skyline Medical Center (they specialize in Neurology)

George Moon

Did great staff was wonderful been there 3 time for heart cath going again

just me

This IS the best hospital and workers! :)

Haydn Wells

I have been paying on my Vanderbilt bill for 3 months and they sold it to a collection agency because apparently I didn’t see the set up payment options if you can’t pay in full. It’s bologna. Not everyone can pay their medical bills in full and to do this to me I will not be back. I’m so upset!!! I have hundreds of medical bills and do not need this bull because I was on top of paying this!!!!!!!!!!!

Edward Crump

Billing and Payment: My husband was taken to Vanderbilt Hospital on January 20, 2018 by Air-Evac from Bowling Green. He passed away on January 30, 2018. After receiving several bills for services and waiting an appropriate time for all the bills to pass through Medicare, they sent final bills that coordinated with the Medicare Summary Notices that had been received. I paid the final amount of $1,525.06. Paid it on May 15, and it cleared the bank on the 23rd of May. Yesterday I received a notice that there was due an amount of $771.13. I looked the bill over carefully and it was an exact duplicate of all the other bills they had sent, but credited to my husband's account was only $753.93. So I called them and asked why the entire $1,525.06 was not credited. I was told that they paid a different bill with the money I sent; a bill they never sent to me. A bill that they had no intentions of sending me. They then told me that since I was never sent the other bill, they'd be happy to send it out next week. But in the meantime, I owe the $771.13. (That I already paid) Well I may be totally stupid, but Medicare gets all the bills automatically sent to them. And those bills are reflected on the Medicare Summary Notice. There is nothing on any of the Medicare notices that show anything other than the balance due by patient to be $1,525.06. I had to rate it with a star in order to post, but it should not rate this much. By the way, the Hospital allowed someone to make a life or death decision about my husband's wishes and that person had an invalid POA. The hospital knew that the patient was married and had children. We were deprived of the right to visit him prior to his death. This hospital did nothing to help my husband and now is trying to get money out of his meager estate to line their own pockets. Their greed and non-caring attitude about the patient makes this place a poor substitute for a Hospital.

Maverick Baker

Great doctors and great staff...just dont plan on getting a room too quickly while in recovery. Taken longer than 8 hours all three times I've been here...currently waiting now actually.

Paul Porter Sr

Very nice people here and they know what they are doing.

Kim Le

Vanderbilt the ER is ridiculous I am waiting for four hour and still waiting!

Marsha Howard

The lasting memory is going to be being moved out of my room to a 'quiet room' waiting for my meds before going home. It was a great experience up to that point and went from 5 star to 1 star. Turns out that can refuse to go to the quiet room. I did not feel that I had an option. The staff in the quiet room talk to each other and make it quite clear that anyone refusing to go to a quiet room is selfish and keeping a bed from another patient. I had major surgery 2 days prior and knew that I could get to the restroom, etc. Now I am facing an hour plus drive home and am very unsettled. I get the concept and what they are trying to achieve but disagree with the practice. I am waiting for meds. If the pharmacy can't have iterations ready in over an hour then do something else

E L

Was there for 6 days and was never given any medication for my infectious disease- a highly contagious infectious disease and another issue. I left AMA due to patient neglect and HIPAA violation and contacted my own doctor for medication and was rehospitalized else where. I would never recommended this place if you are really sick. They’re too focused on themselves and money.

speedyduck55

Very thankful for my doctors and nurses that got me back on the right track. I wish I could personally thank each individual one! Great Place! Thank y'all!

Lee White

Best hospital around Tennessee.

I HAVE BEEN GOING TO THE SAME DOCTOR FOR OVER 5 YEARS ONCE A MONTH AND HAD A $40.00 COPAY THEN TWO MONTHS AGO THAT CHANGED THE BILLING TO 3 COPAYS AT $100.00 FOR THE SAME THING I HAVE BEEN PAYING $40.00 FOR OVER 5 YEARS. PEOPLE DO NOT MATTER IT IS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY.

George Sinchak

I have been to the VA part of candy. I'm very pleased with the results from the doctor and the other stuff. My wife is in remission now for four years. And she was in Vanderbilt hospital for that. I will give move than five stars if I could.

Robin G

Wanted to give "0" star but don't have any option. We are new parents and unfortunately decided to choose Vanderbilt to bringing our baby into this world - BIGGEST MISTAKE that i have ever done. They are short staffed and would let you wait for hours even though I was 10 cm dilated, I waited for 5 hours before starting to push just because no body was there. Only one nurse was there in the room and she kept waiting for other staff members on duty.. and as a result, i had 25 hours of labor with 3c degree tier ( one stage before the worst i.e. 4 degree tier ).

Just wanted to remind you that your statements regarding Dr. Gu are about as good as a child with chocolate all over their face saying they didn't eat any chocolate. Yet, even that is offensive to children because they should not be compared to egotistical, money-driven, despicable people like you. Yet again, anything we compare you beings to would be a disgrace to any breathing community. But it's fine, you're being professional.

This hospital has been a Blessing. If it wasn't for there compassion and quick actions my son and I would not be here. I'm so incredibly thankful to all the doctors, nurses and even the interns. Every single staff member down to the cleaning crew were so kind and helpful. I will never be able to thank them enough or boast enough about this hospital.

Lori Moore

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I have a crushed foot that hasn't healed after the operation they done. I stay in pain. Had to go to the ER and they wouldn't do ANYTHING for me. Had an operation on Wednesday and the nerve block wore off before I woke up. They gave me a pain shot and immediately released me before even letting the medicine work. This hospital is a joke!

TA Duncan

They have some policy that I couldn’t go back with my husband They’re very rude and disrespectful to someone who is worried and having anxiety over there husband being in pain to the point of ice only seen him cry wen our babies where born and not really cry just a tear up.

I came into the er at Vanderbilt on Saturday may 12 2018. When I came in I was very sick I truly believe that I was dying and probably was. I have no insurance and no income. I had bee to the hospital in the town I live in (Lawrenceburg tn.) only to be told that if I could pay up front they could help me and that I had a hernia go home and deal with it. That was was on Feb 3 2018. I only got sicker and sicker my stomach got bigger and bigger untill I finally came to vandy. They ran the EXACT SAME TESTS that Lawrenceburg ran in there er vandy admitted me and told me it was NOT A HERNIA but was large mass attached to my ovaries. On Monday they removed the mass wich was the size of a basketball and did a complete hysterectomy. The doc said that the mass was filled with puss and that had it busted I would have died. I owe my life to the wonderful people at Vanderbilt I was treated like royalty by every single nurse and doctor I encountered. They are truly doing an amazing job there. I am grateful to have been a patient because they really did save my life when they could have easily turned me away. So THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU AT VANDERBUILT YOU ARE ALL AWESOME!!! THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY LIFE!! sincerely, Amelia Knuckles

Disappointed with the service Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital nyphology provided today. Our appointment was scheduled for 3:20pm, we arrived at 2:30pm and it’s 4:46pm and just now being seen. Every patient was called and we still sat waiting our turn. I had to ask what’s going on. Then the nurses gave me a smart answer, really?? #disppointed

Kathy is the goat she's the best at doing iv's and drawing blood you go girl

gregg giddish

Horrible. If you or a loved one has cancer I highly suggest going to MD Anderson. We would be in/out in two hours, at Vandy 8 hours +. Vanderbilt is very disorganized. One Dept does not know what the other is doing. Vandy needs to revamp their procedures.

This place induce my daughter and didn't know what the hell they were doing they stuck her 7 times and blew her viens

This was by far the best hospital experience I've ever had. I came to Vanderbilt to visit a family member in ICU and from the first moment we walked in to when we left a few days later the entire staff of the hospital was courteous, genuine and very helpful. Everyone from the nurses and doctors to the cafe staff and the front desk workers were all great! I'm so happy that my family was able to be taken care of in such a top-notch hospital, thank you all!

K Lo

RIP Presley Elle Wood. Due to the hospitals hospitals poorly trained staff a little girl died because of the hospitals lack or urgency and compassion. Sick people arent people to them.

would have gave a zero for phone communication. my son has been on the kidney trasnsplant list almost four years and we get a yearly call but today 3-11-19 the call came private my phone never rang and I see it 3 hours later in my call log. how does someone call from the kidney tranplant team from a private number and leave a voicemail. Why is the call private. Yes angela I mean you its very unprofessional. MY QUESTIONS IS HOW IS THE CALL GOING TO COME WHEN THERE IS A KIDNEY AVAILABLE. The number you left is in my phone I answer all 615 area code calls. This is the first year I had a problem.

The Emergency department staff and all of the nurses were beyond exceptional during our experience with my sister. From the moment I stepped through those ER doors I felt like they had her best interest at heart and keeping her alive was at the top of their priority list. I cant be fun to express my gratitude and thanks to the many people we came in contact with that were so caring and compassionate towards her. I will be eternally grateful for them ❤❤❤

D.C. Vandament

Had a toothache tried to go to their 24 emergency dental clinic somehow directions sent me to emergency room...got there was seen they did absolutely nothing to help me then waited 6 months to send me a 1200 bill for doing absolutely nothing. which payment was due last month.....these scam artists are what is wrong with the national healthcare problem...i will never come to this hospital again even if my life depended on it.

James Dejarnette

We have been going to Vanderbilt’s children’s hospital and their research areas for over a year now and we really like it. We have had an especially good experience with the Mutlisensory Research Lab. Our child and my husband have participated in medical research studies here and the people are always so kind and flexible. We will continue to participate and we have even recommended Vanderbilt to others!

Jessica Hughes

My grandmother was taken there last week 7th floor round wing. I stayed with her most of the time and can say firsthand she received excellent care! Everyone that came in room no matter who it was asked if we needed anything at all. The doctors and nurses she had were absolutely wonderful! My grandmother loved her nurses! Keep up the good work!

larry roberts

I have had multiple problems including colon cancer and 2 heart attacks, a severe fall with multiple fractures and all were treated with great care. Love the hospital, but, Dr. Singh, a back surgeon has not been very gracious. Multiple 210 mile trips and not a diagnosis yet. Gonna change back doctors if he don't do something soon. Overall in all my 7 heart procedures, colon cancer and 15 broken bones from a fall I wouldn't go anywhere else. In all my stays only one VERY RUDE nurse. Everyone is super and I recommend Vandy very highly.

Crystal Hayes

Due to an accident at home, my husband was sent by ambulance from Dalton Ga to Vanderbilt. He suffered 1st & 2nd degree burns over 19% of his body. Everyone of the burn unit staff members were extremely welcoming and helpful. We were there a total of 13 days and they went out of their way for us. We were given a room with two beds so I had my own bed, not a chair, to sleep on each night. They knew our situation, being so far from home, and made us feel right at home. The doctors who performed his surgery all came by to check on him several times afterward. The staff is just completely extraordinary in my opinion. And the food is just as good as the staff is helpful.

I wish I could rate it a -2, st thomas west is worse -10!! There is 1 hospitalists here that is "GOD" I guess, he is over all spacialists I guess. When he is not here things are pretty good, would rate place 2 almost 3 stars. He now ordered a "babysitter" to sit in my wifes room with us!! Absolutely no need for her to be in here!! (She sits here and watches tv, I know right how do I get that job!!) Just to piss us off so we sign out ama!! "GOD" already knows we are making a complaint on him, so he is trying EVERYTHING he can to get us to leave like we did a month ago!! Yes we have asked to get a new hospitalist, but we are stuck with "GOD" till his week of POWER is over!! She has gotten no better since. So hopefully we will get "GOD" run out of here so this hospital can be good again!! MVGA!! Make Vanderbilt Great Again

chronicle of a disappointment !! the day of yesterday 01/19/2019 at 8:57 pm product of a strong pain in the abdominal area I went to the adult emergency of the recognized vanderbilt medical center, looking for a solution to my problem considering that I had expected a week with treatment for general pain, (ibuprofen, advil, tylenol) at the time of entering the institution made the usual entry process and then I went to a room there, after waiting a few minutes, a nurse approached me I filled out my insurance documents and at that moment I asked questions of the same, satisfied with the response proceeded to continue with the process, then another nurse arrived who made blood samples and urinated, after that I stayed in the room for approximately 3 hours Until I went to ask what was going on? because nobody came, because nobody told me anything, I continued with my abdominal pain, the response of the staff was that the people in charge of doing the ultrasound there were only 2 in the whole hospital and they were attending the rooms and the emergency, all this in the "Recognized" vanderbilt medical center, after 4 hours of waiting I did the ultrasound and went back to the room, 2 hours later a resident approached me who did not look me in the eyes once to tell me that what they saw was not important I went to my house to take (Tylenon and Advil) really ?? 6 hours waiting in an emergency so that your only solution was to go to my house to take analgesics? I wonder someone can believe that in a week of pain I had not already taken that? It is incredible that the only answer was to go home! and go to a gastroenterologist that the consultation is in 1 month, according to the "recognized" vanderbilt medical center, I must take analgesics for a month because they can not tell me anything else !! disappointed of the attention and the innacion of same proceed to go to the office of payments (even with my pain intact) where I am told that I must pay a quantity of money which had already asked the first person who made the process registration in the room, and his response regarding my insurance had been different so I decided to continue with the process, but the truth is that it was not so, I had to pay a large sum of money, for a mistreatment of my person , with 6 hours of waiting to decide that my solution was (tylenol) remember in the "recognized" medical center vanderbilt .. there was no help, there was no support, there was no solution !! Here I am in my house with necessary money lost, with a great sadness and with my pain intact in the abdomen! It was a big disappointment !! postscript: the 6 blood containers that were extracted, were on the table in the room, after 6 hours no one touched them, I guess it was not important! Luis Herrera Rincón patient who continues with abdominal pain.

This is some of the letter my father wrote to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. I am appalled at the treatment he received for his revision knee surgery. He had this surgery through the VA, but with the lack of care or knowledge on the hospitals end, they should be ashamed to partner with the VA. How many other Veteran patients or general patients that have had surgery at this hospital and had received such lack of care? It should not be this way. One would think that the “Harvard of the South” would be exceptional in their medical facilities. I hope those who have had surgeries here get the proper care and treatment they need, especially Veterans. "9-10 July 2018 I was told to be at the hospital at noon on 9 July to sign in and I would be taken back to the prep room to get ready for my surgery that would start around 2-230pm. I was at the hospital at 1145am and was not called back to go to the prep room until 230pm. My surgery didn’t start until around 330pm. I was in recovery from 530pm to 1145pm due to the hospital not having a room for me. I was told the hospital does not reserve rooms. When I finally got to my room, it was no larger than a closet. With the bed and equipment, the nurses had a difficult time maneuvering around to do their specific duties. The room had no windows. When my gurney was inside the room I was asked to step off it and get on the bed in the room. Mind you I just had a spinal block for my knee revision surgery. I was asked if I could get on my leg I did not have surgery on and hop to the bed. I had started getting my feeling back in my legs but I did not feel strong enough to be able to stand or hop from one bed to another. I had to suggest that the bed in the room be placed to the side right up against the bed I was on so I could scoot over on to in. I did not receive any help whatsoever in getting not it. I could barely lift my good leg let alone the leg I just had knee revision in and coming off the spinal block. When I got in the bed a nurse told me that none of the buttons on the bed rail worked. Not even the nurse call button. I had to have my wife go to the nurses station to get them. It had come unplugged from the wall somehow. I could tell they didn’t seem to know anything about my surgery. I asked them if they knew what kind of surgery I just had. They said all they were told was I was coming to their floor from having surgery. I told them I just had a knee replacement revision and that is why I was needing help moving from one bed to the other. I was told by my doctor, the nurse when I watched the knee surgery video and the nurses in the recovery room that I would have the lower leg compression devices to prevent blood clots from forming. I didn’t get those, or type thereof, put on me until 410am. I had asked the nurse several times when I would be getting them for my legs. She said the first time they do not keep them on the floor and had to order them from another location in the hospital. She said since we are not in the main hospital they may not know where we are. A Deep vein thrombosis, DVT, could be a life threatening thing. For the surgery I was to eat or drink nothing from Sunday night at midnight. As I stated above, I did not get into a room until midnight Monday night. So this was close to 24 hours without food and water. Now, the nurse in the recovery room did give me some crackers, peanut butter and sprite. But this was not really a “meal”. She told me when I get to my room I would get something for filling. I had to ask the nurse for some food and water. She said they do not really keep food on the floor but thought she had a couple of sandwiches or could make me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. She did bring me a turkey sandwich and some water. She did have other beverages and she did bring me a couple of ice cream cups. To hold me over. I had to ask for a urinal to use. I had not been asked if I needed a walker or other assistance should I need to have a bowel movement."

I've had a hell of a month, and I owe Vanderbilt my life. I have aortic stenosis caused by a bicuspid aortic valve. Up until August 19th, I was also pregnant. In my second trimester, it was determined that my stenosis had become extremely severe, and I was told to keep an eye on any symptoms that came up. On august 10th, I went to my local ER for chest pain and tightness, where my symptoms were dismissed as being pregnancy related, and was sent home after ~3 hours with instructions to follow up with my OB. Instead, I reached out to my cardiologist, Dr Damp, who wanted to see me ASAP. I went to see her that Thursday, during which she determined that I should go to the main campus immediately. While I was there I ultimately had a c-section (with a cardiology team ready and on standby in case something went wrong, as I was now a very high risk pregnancy), followed by balloon valvuloplasty for my valve just a week ago. Thankfully, both surgeries went better than we could have hoped, and I'm recovering well. Everyone I talked to in Labor and Delivery, the cardiovascular ICU, and the children's hospital were great and sympathetic. They were also extremely knowledgeable and able to communicate information to me without talking down to me or leaving information out. The fact that the cardiology team ultimately figured out a way to prolong the functioning of my valve AND performed the valvuloplasty well enough that I have extremely minimal backflow and at LEAST a few more years before I have to get open chest surgery is something I will be forever grateful for. My experience was quite literally life-changing and overwhelmingly positive.

Kathy Vincent

I love the care we receive here! The drs and nurses' bedside manners are amazing, their support of the family of the patient, and their patience with the patient during recovery. My dad had an emergency high risk, quadruple by-pass last week, and while he did have some complications, they were right there with us, and with Dad, helping us through every step of the way. Today they are prepping him for discharge to a rehab facility, and there is so much care and excitement among his care-team as they are "celebrating" with us, the success of Dads recovery. I am so thankful for Vanderbilt, and that this is where dad was sent for surgery. They saved his life! Love Vanderbilt. Love the doctors. Love the nurses. Love the students.

Billy Cates

In my opinion it is one of THE BEST in the United States; because they care.

Desiree Jenkins

I went to Vanderbilt to see my GI specialist while in his office I felt terrible. They wheeled me over to the ER 11 hours later I finally was taken back to a room in the ED. Come to find out I was having a heart attack. They monitored me few a few hours and sent me home and told me to f/u with my PCP and my cardiologist. This was on a Thursday my PCP is closed on Fridays in which I told them that. I ended up having to have open heart surgery at another hospital and went into a coma and almost died. The hospital where I was at ended up having to fly a team from Vanderbilt to a local airpot and picked them up and tranported them via ambulance to see what they could do for me. They took one look at me laying face down in a coma on a ventilator and said they could not move me or fly me to Vanderbilt due to the fragile situation I was in. I did appreciate the ECHMO team coming to attempt to help. Needless to say I spent almost 1 month in the hospital. Which I believe could have been prevented if Vanderbilt would have taken the time to treat me instead of sending me home. I feel like they didnt want to mess with my situation related to my insurance. PROUD TO BE ALIVE. No thanks to Vanderbilt. Another sad issue is I believe they knew they were wrong because they called my PCP that following monday to see if I had a f/u appointment. My PCP called me and asked me what was happening. My troponin levels were elevated and only went down a tad bit over my few hours of stay in the ED.

Brittany Coulter

This place is the best. Kristen is the best nurse I have met by far thank you so much for everything you done for me!!!!! Your amazing

David Russell

I’d give this filthy place a zero if I could. A four hours wait with no traumas. Nurses are not Arround. This place must me on a budget. ER is awful. 5 people on one room like cattle with no privacy.

Jp 7781

HIGHLY OVERRATED!! It's a known fact that teaching hospitals CAN BE somewhat of an advantage, but this place is living off that myth and borrowed time. First it's FILTHY! Wanna feel like dirt scraped off of scum, go here. Want to feel insignificant & belittled by a bunch of pompous brats that think they're better than you, go here. If you want compassion, comfort & actual medical care GO ELSEWHERE! You'll never spend less than 8 or9 hours in their ER, it takes WEEKS OR EVEN MONTHS to get appointments, surgery or any other scheduled event. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND FINDING SOMEWHERE A LITTLE LESS WRAPPED UP IN THEIRSELVES WHERE PATIENT/PROVIDER 1 ON1 ACTUALLY EXISTS. IT'S LIKE MASS PRODUCTION & THAT'S DEADLY WHEN COMBINED WITH MEDICINE!

Kerrigan Manter

Worst experience in a doctor's office I have ever had.

Patricia Woodard

It's my work and we top notch.

Kathy Stephens

I have been seeing many specialists there for years, some better than others, I have noticed a change in the last several years for the worse, I have been recently hospitalized 2 times in last 6 months, both occasions were supposed to be overnight, they both turned into 9-14 day stays. While some of it can’t be blamed on the physicians there, a lot of it can & their lack of ability to think outside the textbook knowledge is a huge concern, the nursing care for the most part is ok, they are completely under staffed for a facility of that size. I was to have an ultrasound ordered “stat” early afternoon & didn’t receive it until 4am, if that’s considered “stat” I would hate to see the person that’s just waiting to have one. The lack of response from anyone in administration or management & their willingness to address issues when brought to their attention is a COMPLETE JOKE, where is your accountability in all this? You’re dealing with peoples lives here. I bring my issues to people for them to be handled, I have tried to be nice but at this point that’s done. My opinion stay as far away from there as you can.

Edward Ballard

It is VERY concerning that this hospital is literally punishing Dr. Eugene Gu simply for taking a stand for American Civil Rights which seemed to have offended employees/staff that happen to be complicit with issues such as racism, bigotry, as well as suppression of free speech. The administration as well as the nurses responsible for this should be investigated thoroughly and ultimately terminated. Un-American bigots have NO PLACE working for an American Federal institution serving the American public. What is truly concerning is how the bullying tactics used by the nurses as well as the complicity with the administration are literal manifestations of racial harassment from the pre-Civil Rights era except the difference being that minority Americans now are protected under law and can take legal action. The nurses and the administration involved in this specific incident need to be investigated and lose their licenses.

Katrina Stone

I have always received wonderful care here. I recommend their ER if you need emergency assistance. They are quick, caring, and knowledgeable. If affordability is an issue, they have options to help with that too.

jama swaggerty

They have excellent nurses ....I would know about doctors ...while I was in intensive care I never once actually saw a doctor .. The nurses would take pictures on an iPad and thara how the doctor treated me I was in the burn unit ....I think we could have a great burn u it here at U T hospital in Knoxville Tn ....I believe the doctorsthere could do what they did in nashvillecauae when it first happened that's where I went and I saw a doctor and theytreatednejustgreat and at vandwrbuilt big nameijuatreally expected more from them . there was no getting to know the doctor treating you ....so distant....no personalizationbetween doctor and patience . I'm sure they earned therename of being a great hospitalsomehow cause my granddaughter went to a doctors office thereabdthetwere alright withherbut her mom ....my daughterwentthere for the same reason years agoieven remember the doctors name after all these years and he was so cold and spent like10minutes with us ......we drove almost4 hrs in the darknotknowing nothing about Nashville for him to say 5 words to us and sending us on our way the doctor she saw in knoxville was absolutely wonderful it's just I believe the doctors need to know us and we them ....especially before you go home to know your the type of person who will follow the regimine ....I don't see how you can treat someone without knowing a little about them . I just didn't have a good experience ....twice .... But othersmayhave wonderful experiences and have great doctors and maybe I just was unlucky and got uncaring doctors ....twice but I'll say the nurses who really did take care of me were wonderful I give them 5 plus stars but I'm a truthful person and I'll not lie and this was MY experience . Thank You

Elle Petty

I went to Vanderbilt Medical Center as a self pay patient. I paid the full amount they asked when I walked out of the visit. I then got a bill in the mail saying I owed money. After several long phone calls with long wait times I found out they over charged me by several hundred dollars. I had to prove that I paid the bill and request to be paid back for the over charge. I had to then wait 2 weeks to get the reimbursement. I never got the money and I now have to call again. They said they got a new system and are having trouble. Horrible customer service! DOUBLE CHECK YOUR BILLS!

Andrea wilhelm

Terrible company to work for. Terrible place for patients.

John Perry

My wife recently had a second knee replacement here. She had a bad reaction to the pain meds and the staff worked hard on finding a solution. The medical students are great and the medical staff has a lot of patience and empathy Four stars due to the lack of clear directions on the signs. It is hard to find anything.

Michael Gorman

We found everyone extremely helpful, professional and friendly. The nurses, doctors, transport services, parking attendants and cafeteria workers could not have been better. All our appointments were on time. All the rooms and facilities were clean and comfortable. Free valet parking.

TLS TN

Went into the hospital for a laparoscopic abdominal procedure and was to stay over night for observation. The pre-op and PACU staff was nice enough- no problems there. In the OR, I was absolutely treated like a slab of meat. Nobody made the effort to look at me, greet me or make any pleasantries whatsoever. I was transferred to the OR table, strapped down and the mask slapped over my face before I was even sedated. VERY unnerving to say the least. The day of discharge, I got home and got a good look at the three small incisions in my upper abdomen; two of the three were already showing infection (oozing green pus). Since the surgical dressings had not been touched since they were applied, it is obvious that the infection was acquired from a dirty OR. Required a visit to my PCP and a prescription. Within three days of discharge I was back at my PCP and was diagnosed with HAP (hospital acquired pneumonia); the direct result of a dirty facility. Long story short- I will definitely avoid Vandy in the future. I came out much, MUCH sicker than I went in.

Brown Westmoreland

Very professional. High quality medical care.

Rick Adams

rude workers, act like you are putting them out to ask for something. Terrible experience for $16.00. Will never spend another penny in this rude place !!!

April Huie

Vanderbilt provides the best care! Our family does not trust any other facility because teaching hospitals have more experience with difficult cases. The Heart Failure team is AMAZING! Thanks for caring for my mom. She loved you all!

Annitta Bishop

This is s great place have been so pleased

Karen Phillips

They take care of you and your family

Debby Hood

Real doctors, an emergency room that understands what an emergency is, thorough examination. Top notch staff. The best of the best. if you go to another hospital when you're really sick, you'll wind up here eventually, so save yourself the time & trouble & just come here to begin with.

Rina Vaden

Top notch staff kind well informed and they never mind put things in terms you can understand.there's no other hospital that I would rather use in Nashville I've never been misdiagnosed and I've always been handled with the best care is if I was being treated by a friend. They are far above any of the other surrounding hospitals.

Crystal Craig

Have taken excellent care of my brother who has multiple health issues. They travel 4 hrs to receive world class care. God bless them all.

Tex Murray

Been going to the cardiovascular departments for 25+ years and they are great. All my doctors and their staff are amazing. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

Carolyn Clendenin

I’ve been going here for 3 years! I love the doctors and nurses, and all staff

Lol Y

Don’t ever don’t come here unless you want to wait over 5 hours in a small waiting room packed with Over hundreds of people and horrible and nasty conditions. Hate this place i hope no one else makes the mistake of dimming here !

Melissa Forbes

My husband received the best care in the ICU I have ever witnessed in a hospital. The nursing staff had wonderful bedside manners and were very knowledgeable in their care of him. The doctors and NPs were thorough with their plans and assessments; they were very willing to explain what they were doing and the changing conditions of my husband in terms that I was fully able to understand. I could not ask for a better ICU staff than what we had. I would fully recommend Vanderbilt to anyone needing to be in a top-notch hospital.

Destinee Cullison

THIS PLACE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEATH OF A 10 MONTH OLD BABY LOOK IT UP YOURSELF DO NOT GO HERE.

Thomas Wilson

Great facilities. Fantastic staff.

Crystal Bradford

My daughter spent quite a bit of time there with liver cancer. Her doctors were amazing people and most nurses were the kindest sweetest people I've ever met. They treated my child with the up most care. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is bc of the promises that were made to my family and my dying daughter. They promised her shed be swimming by the end of summer, she was ecstatic. She gave every bit of strength she could even though I was pulled in The hall and given the bleed out talk but still told i0 percent change she'd make it. The percentage of survival even though the cancer she had was super rare and they really had no idea what to do. I believe things could have been much different. I feel like my daughter would be here today if certain steps were avoided. I miss her but I am appreciative of the kindness and love she received. It's been 5 months since she passed and I just wish things were different.

emily russell

My husband has stage 3 lung cancer. He has wonderful doctors in Johnson City , TN ,but Johnson city doesnt`t have the advanced technology to deal with his cancer like Vanderbilt has. Dr. Sally York and Dr. Erin Alexis Gillaspie are 2 of the most fantastic doctors I have had the pleasure of meeting in my life. My husband and I are Christians and we agree that God is going to work miracles through these 2 ladies to make my husband well again. Thank you and God bless. 10 STARS!

Rakesh S

4.5 stars: as good as a U hospital can get. was here on 2-mo rotation, having seen the inside i can tell you - they do some really good things here. V thorough with their workup, they're into advanced research as well, always looking up and putting into practice novel stuff. Staff is V busy given their Large referral area, but they do their best to keep up n do their best. i would certainly admit a family member here than any other place in TN!

Dreama Bracknell

I was at deaths door they pulled me through. The Dr's,The nurses, the staff are all caring, concerned and thorough

Robert Tuttle

The worst hospital ever! I was in there cardiac unit on the seventh floor, On June 23. The nurse in charge Amanda was very rude. I was there 24 hours , and had 10 things go wrong. Every time , I complained the staff would say they were understaffed , and having problems with their help. I'll make this brief but to give you a short list , they gave me the wrong medicine, then they gave me half the dose I was supposed to get, then they didn't give me any of my medicine. They shot me full of the nuclear medicine to get a stress test done and then forgot to bring me down to get the stress test done. They then told me I was going to get a heart monitor to go home with for 48 hours, and never came to give me the heart monitor I waited 24 hours turns out nobody remember to order it or ask anybody to bring one . I didn't eat or drink for 15 hours I finally gave up and told them l was leaving , and the charge nurse Amanda , was rude ,and obnoxious , and just said have a nice day . when I told her they were a terrible hospital they complained that they were understaffed , and they were not a bad hospital. If you're in Nashville there is other choices . I would definitely not go here! I have a heart condition, and I left without my heart monitor, because nobody seem to know what they were doing . the nurses had no clue what the doctors were saying. I would definitely not go here! I have a heart condition, and I left without my heart monitor, because nobody seem to know what they were doing the nurses had no clue what was going on, the nurses actually asked me what the doctors were saying. There was no communication at all between the doctors and the nurses , and the patient . they had the wrong information in my chart , and nobody knew what was going on for over 24 hours I finally got nervous and left. The valet parking guy was nice that's about all I have to say good about this hospital. I actually thought I was on candid camera at some points, Because I can imagine so many things can go wrong on one visit. And believe me when I tell you I'm leaving about 4or 5 things out .

Ton Ray

Thankful for Vanderbilt Hospital. This Hospital is on a different level than most Hospitals. Thank you for the excellent care provided to my family and friends on many different occasions.

Jessica Phelps

I have to go there every 6 months for my esophagus, so when I swallow the food or drink will go down. The best doctor's and nursing staff are so great. Ithink I will stick with this one. I don't see me going anywhere else.

Dr. Matthew Resnick is my Urologist for 2 different types of cancers. He is the Best of the Best, has a great bed side manner and makes you feel very comfortable when explaining what he wants to do or the review of the test results. He really cares about his patients, has the most upbeat attitude that I have ever had for cancer treatment professionals. He makes you feel like there is hope, regardless where you are in the cycle of treatment or diagnosis. I would never leave his office for another Urologist.

Vanderbilt, and it’s oncology team have kept me alive for 12 years - with a diagnosis of incurable brain cancer. They are my hero’s, and I never leave there without a sense of hope. I find the 8 hour drive from Indiana to be totally worth it. My healthcare team at Vandy is the best!

A family member had to go into the ER, and ended up with a 3-day hospital stay in TOBS. I was there for most of those days. The staff that provided care over those 3 days did a nice job. The PAs, nurses and care partners were caring, responsive, and helpful.

I was here to see my "mom" and the valet parking was great. I was able to get up to see her sooner because I wasn't wandering around trying to find a parking place on my own.

My wife was transferred to Vandy after her diagnosis of leukemia. After not being able to have an ambulance to transport her, I took her in our personal vehicle. All the arrangements were already made to be directly admitted and we were met with grace and effectiveness. After being admitted and arriving in her room, the Drs and nurses were the best. That were very professional and encouraging with the treatment. The patient food leaves a lot to be desired, but the patient care is impeccable. Highly recommend this facility. Great place.

The concern as well as professionalism of all staff

Absolutely horrible. We waited for 9 hours and at the end never got to see the doctor.

I wouldn’t recommend this facility if it was the only option for medical care. My husband has been a Crohns patient since 2013. We’ve always tried to go along with their recommendations but if we’ve ever disagreed or challenged their reasonings for certain things, it’s been like pulling teeth to consider his needs as the patient. His doctors do not care about anything that we have to say regarding his condition. They write off everything we say regarding medication, probiotics, diet, excercise or any opinions we have regarding his treatment options. If we don’t agree with them then we’re against them. If it doesn’t go with their recommendations then it’s irrelevant. They contradict themselves a lot. They say my husband only really has one medication left to try after his current one stops working but it’s crucial that they do the next colonoscopy to see how much inflammation he has. My husband doesn’t have as much inflammation because his inflammation levels have gone down and they (his doctor in our town) was able to go farther during the last colonoscopy. They’re saying it’s a preventative if we allow them to do the next colonoscopy. What I don’t understand is if we only have one medication left and there isn’t as much inflammation then what are we preventing? I think she’s (Vandy Dr) upset because she wasn’t able to go as far and now she wants her chance. I understand the want to perform the colonoscopy herself but we live over an hour away and we’ve tried to explain that we don’t have anyone that has the time to take off to bring my husband and we cannot afford to stay in a hotel. I feel like they think we are lying because they keep trying to force the issue like we have an extra $400 lying around that we aren’t being honest about. We can get the same procedure done locally but that doesn’t ever seem to be good enough. We can only do what we can do. If you’re reading this you’re probably wondering why we haven’t switched doctors. We would but that would stop the current medication my husband is on and he needs that medication. If he misses that medication he could get very sick very quickly, so we feel trapped. I dread appointments here because I feel like my husband is thought more of as an experiment and less as a human because our needs are never considered and he is the one that’s a patient. Keep in mind this is a research hospital. The doctors here will only talk about whatever it is that their data shows. An example with Crohn’s disease your diet is a major factor, when we brought up my husband started a new diet that’s high in protein and calcium but also bland and won’t give him much (if any) inflammation, they said they didn’t believe diet was a factor because they haven’t done studies on it. Don’t go here. This might be a leading research hospital but consider that word “research” very carefully because that’s what you will be considered. Research. EDIT: they actually sent my husband a letter in the mail saying they’ve tried to contact him several times and he’s failed to respond. They’ve not called once since his appointment or sent him any messages. My thought is they’re trying to coax an answer regarding whether or not he can have a colonoscopy in Nashville even thought we’ve explained our situation multiple times on why we cannot have it done in Nashville vs having it done locally.

I was transferred from an Army Hospital for having Seizures to the Adult Emergency Room at Vanderbilt. While there, I received no IV drip, No medication for my head, and I never even saw a doctor. The only thing they were sure to do was get my husbands information to ensure that billing would be completed and they can collect their money. The nurses were rude and disrespectful. When I would ask for anything, the nurses would give me an attitude. When my husband and my kids arrived at the hospital to see me, they ignored them for an hour and a half. Only when they discharged me, was I able to see them. They didn't tell us anything of what was going on with me, or give me any sort of documentation. They were the least professional and abusive staff I've ever met. As they were trying to discharge me, the nurse kept digging into my personal belongings, they wouldn't leave so I could change, and they just walked me to the front of the ER and left me there. If no one was there to pick me up, I would've been stranded. I highly recommend going to another medical facility at all cost unless it is absolutely necessary. Just based off my experience here, I would never come back to this facility even if it was a last resort.

Terrible. They market themselves as a world-class facility, but facilities are run down and I had to lay in my own sweat and blood for over 24 hours in Triage before they even offered to change the sheets.

You hear people constantly saying how great this hospital is. Well in appearances it is great, it's a lovely place with lots of art and fancy structures but that's it. The care you get here is a mess. The doctors do not follow through with their care plans nor does patient care seem to be a priority. Zero compassion and zero common sense. If you want to sit in a pretty building and tell everyone you went to "Vanderbilt" by all means go there. If you want real care with a doctor who sees something more than a number go to another hospital.

My wife was a direct admit with a brain tumor. We were admitted to the hallway of the emergency department for over FIFTY hours. After a fight broke out at the foot of her bed, I raised hell with the charge nurse. We were sent the next morning for a biopsy that never happened and left in pre op for eight hours with no med or food. ( she had been fasting since midnight). Now we are here again, not much has changed. We were scheduled for chemo on friday, that was canceled because she was too sick. She received fluids and was set home.Extremly sick, we were back on Sunday, still sick and have been here all week with very little improvement. This place is so big and so unorganized that nobody knows what the hell is going on. There is no communication between Doctors and nursing staff. There is very little communication between the Doctors. The experience here has sucked at best. One positive note, the nurses and the staff on the floor go above and beyond to assure that the patient is taken care of. Come on vandy, you can do better than this.

Extremely slow in placing us in an actual overnight room. It’s currently 2:43am. They initially told us that we would be given a room to rest in at 12:05am. Also currently still waiting! Nice employees though!

Pam Worles

Great staff. Wonderful experience all around from the first day my husband was seen until now. Doctors and nurses love them. We have our favorites but all are thorough!

Elizabeth Brown-Frazier

Bad service but very accurate diagnosis and resolution.

My wife was air lifted here. She was pregnant and was losing alot of blood. The placenta was detaching from the uterus....she lost 2.5 pints of blood and given 4 pints for a transfusion...the emergency surgery team was A+. However when they couldn't figure out why my son couldn't gain weight I started questioning things. They only want to feed him 20ml every 4 hours. When he is in the nursery that's how they fed him. Everytime he was in the room with us 20 ml was no where near enough. He would eat 35 ml with no problem. When they came and weighed him after we had him he was fine. Everytime. But when they had and fed him he mysteriously kept dropping weight. This led to a longer discharge of course. Not a big deal except hes not premature....breathing on his own pooping and peeing just fine, opening his eyes and passed all hearing, vision, and carseat test. This is day 5 June 19th 2019 and they have moved us to a "family room" is what they call it. It's almost the same size as the bathroom inside the room. This is no family room. Plus my wife mind airlifted here 4 pints of blood to save her life and having a c section was taking the all the medication prescribed but could not get comfortable on the tiny couch.....mind you the only thing holding her stomach together was 13 pieces of tape and surgeon glue ...so I went to ask a nurse about a fold out cot or a reclining chair....I had found a nurse and asked about this reclining chair that was not in a room ,did not have a sign on it saying "in use" and literally just sitting there not being used by anybody....so as I asked the nurse about the chair not only did she have a attitude, treated me as if I were scum .....but raised her voice at me and told me that she would just have to deal with it and get over it...I tried to explain my wife's situation to her but again I was cut short and told(not asked) but told like a child to go back to my room. I asked the nurse for her name for she did not a have any identification card on her shirt pants or anywhere....THIS IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM SHE REFUSED TO GIVE ME HER NAME SHE SAID SHE DID NOT HAVE TO GIVE IT TO ME.....so very frustrated I did return to my room....PEOPLE A HOSPITAL THAT WILL NOT HELP.....THEY DONT CARE.....THEY TREAT YOU LIKE YOUR SCUM.....THE PLACE IS DIRTY....SOME DOORS ARE NOT EVEN SECURED PAST THE 9 O CLOCK CURFEW.....THERES A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS PLACE AND STAFF AND SECURITY....DO NOT GO HERE.....NO CONSIDERATION WHATS SO EVER.....THIS NURSE WAS ON THE FOURTH FLOOR SHE IS IN HER MID 50S AT LEAST ,WHITE, 5'5, 130LBS ,DIRTY BLONDE HAIR.....I WOULD NOT HAVE WROTE THIS REVIEW OR TOOK THE TIME TO DETAIL IF I WASNT CONCERNED FOR OTHERS SHE MAY INTERACT WITH.....sincerely Charles cain

Horrible staff service. Tried calling twice to talk to my cousin, gave the code. Her mother had my name on the list. They yelled and said “WE CAN NOT CONFIRM OR DENY THAT THE PATIENT IS HERE.” And hung up on me... very rude, very impolite, most definitely could have better operating systems.

Brian Biederman

No joke this hospital has figured out how to maximize profits in every single moment - they are absolutely relentless at making you wait. If you have even the smallest thing wrong you will see a minimum of 3-5 different people who will ALL tel you they don't know what's wrong, and then you will wait 60-90 minutes for lab work. Every trip here is a minimum 3-4 hour event. I f****ing HATE this place
