i would never recomend this hospital to ANYBODY. i had thought this place was great until my grandmother had open heart surgery. it went wrong because they nicked one of her arteries her and she bled out 14 units of blood and they said that she just bled out randomly. they are also very RUDE. also for other reasons that will not be shared. i highly do NOT recommend this awful, rude, and unprofessional hospital.

My mother was transferred here after having a heart attack. One of my siblings fell asleep in the waiting room at 4:00am and was kicked out by security because a member of the hospital staff complained that she was Sleeping! Worst experience ever!

I'D LIKE TO THANK ST THOMAS AND GOD FOR SAVING MY LIFE MORE THAN ONCE. THE STAFF, FROM THE HOUSEKEEPERS TO THE INCREDIBLE STAFF OF DOCTORS AND NURSES ARE SECOND TO NONE. THEY ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST IN THE WORLD. THEY'RE ON THE CUTTING EDGE OF TECHNOLOGY AND THE MOST RECENT MEDICAL ADVANCES, EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND SKILLED WITH GOD-GIVEN TALENTS. THEY ARE ALSO SOME OF THE MOST COMPASSIONATE PEOPLE I'VE EVER KNOWN, WITH LOVING, CARING HEARTS. ONE LAST COMMENT: it also does my heart good to walk into a place that is faith-based and has a huge slogan when you walk in displayed that says 'FOR WITH GOD, NOTHING SHALL BE IMPOSSIBLE". healing words of encouragement before ever entering the doors !!!

Over an hour to get a nurse and then they won't give you your normal medicines!

Grandmother is here due to a stroke. We cam from out of town to be with her. So far everyone we have encountered has had an attitude. I don't get it. We haven't even been "that" family....yet, but we are about to be...

I would personally like to say on behalf of my family we can not Thank you enough for the care and love shown to my grandmother Mildred Smith by the employees and of the ICU and staff on the 3rd floor. St. Thomas Hospital is one of the finest examples of the way a hospital should be run. The staff goes above and beyond in times of need and words can t express how we feel . From the bottom of my heart Thank you !!!!

Ruth Otero

Love this hospital and staff. Have not had one bad experience with the care they have been giving my mom since she's been in and out of there.

This is a great place to go to die. I broke my back and was transferred here to see the neurologist. When I finally got to the room, they just dumped me there. They didnt bother to make up the bed, left me for 7 hours without pain meds. When I finally found the call button for the nurse and asked for aspirin and pain meds, the nurse gave me aspirin but told me she didn't want to mix the aspirin and pain meds. Then, 8 hours later she gave me pain meds and muscle relaxers together. How stupid can you be? It made me violently ill. And she has had medical training?? The nurses were snippy and not helpful at all. Do not go to this hospital if you can help it!!

Becky Dively

Very skilled, polite staff.

To whom it may concern: We as a family feel you are dismissing and not giving the best possible care to our family member due to her age. Solely because of her age you are not seeing this as the urgent matter that it is. Your staff sees a 92 year old thin and confused at times woman. She is extremely aware and cognitive when she is not requiring pain medication for the immense pain she is in. She has battled colon cancer 30 years ago, gone through tremendous amounts of radiation. She won her battle with colon cancer but the radiation did take a toll on her, she has been a petite women ever since. She has great quality of life and is very much wanting to keep fighting for her right to keep having that wonderful quality of life. Ageism- Ageism can take the form of a provider dismissing treatable pathology as a feature of old age. If she were 55 you would be getting her to Vanderbilt with the Allergist. Life is Life at 55 or 92. You have a responsibility to provide the care she has asked for. Your facility is boldly making the public statements everywhere “That nothing shall be impossible.” As it is written on every one of your adds and is in fact on the side of your building. When in fact the impossible does happen here. Your facility doesn’t have an Allergist there for making it Impossible for our loved one to get the proper medical care she needs and deserves. Your doctors have offered and discussed with us the treatment that she needs from an allergist. Spoke of all we would need to do is transfer to Vanderbilt hospital, which is no small task in and of itself. We have voiced that we do want this treatment option and are told it may take 2-3 days to arrange transfer. We do not have 2-3 days to wait for this to be arranged. We are already days behind on a extremely serious infection because your facility is not properly staffed. We have stated that we do want this treatment option of the pursuit of the preferred antibiotic for her condition, only to be told it will probably take 2-3 days at best effort to get her that help. The only data to support her allergy to penicillin is from 62 years ago as observed by her daughter that was then 6 or 7 years old! Your patients should not suffer and have to be shuffled from one facility to another because of your ill preparedness. We demand you in fact do as you so boldly claim and do the impossible. Get the proper medical provider in this building to see her and do the tests she needs or immediately get her to a facility that can. Not in a few days not in 24 hours immediately, as we have already wasted precious time waiting for you to provide proper care. We know that both of these requests are well within your means of facilitating and expect one done immediately. Your Hospitalist has adamantly stated that the current treatment is not working and they don’t for see it working. That is pure negligence to knowingly keep pursuing a treatment knowing it is and will fail. Your staff knows what treatment is needed, the only reason it isn’t happening is because your hospital is ill equipped. Our attorneys have been contacted and we will be perusing legal action. We expect an Immediate response and appropriate action taken. The family of Room 424

We had to take my father-in-law last night due to his PC wanting his arm checked for a bloodclot. His hand was completely black from what we assumed was a blockage so she suggested we go there for an ultrasound. We wairwa over two hours to be called back they were super busy and we understand that. Then when we got back to the room it was another two hours before a Dr came in and we only saw one nurse once he was male and I didn't get a name. Also, we are frequently there due to lots of heart attacks and strokes, but they claimed he wasn't in their system which was crazy. He was just there two weeks ago with a heart attack. The nurse was horrible to my father in law he asked about his IV because it was painful and the nurse looked at him and said no it's not coming out. We didn't ask for it to be removed just checked. Then he says it is what it is and it's staying in there. I'm still not convinced it's not a blockage since when we massage his hand the color comes back pink they are claiming it is just brusing. Worst experience ever at that ER.

My sister just underwent a heart transplant at St. Thomas. My family and I could not be more grateful for the surgeons, nurses, caregivers that gave us our sister another chance at life. They treated not only the patient but our family with the utmost respect and understanding and included us in every step along the way. We are extremely grateful. New beginnings for all of us. Thank you.

We actually just home from this ER with my mom. I cannot believe the bad reviews. Everyone was amazing and they went above and beyond! So shocked people talked so bad about this place. We would definitely go here again if needed. Bless all you sweet staff!

I had 1 horrible nurse. I've never been talked to the way this woman tried to treat me. Food was horrible. If at all possible I will never be a pt at this hospital again.

the worst staff in the world! the rudest and helpless people ever from doctor to nurses. I hated the place. I do not recommend this place at all. please don't go there you will regret it.

Absolutely THE WORST treatment ever experienced. Went to the ER looking for treatment for a severe UTI. I advised the staff that this was My third UTI in one year and the pain was unbearable. I Was made to wait over an hour and never saw a doctor. Was sent home with a prescription for CVS (CVS pharmacy is closed at this time). Was charged $250. Despite the excruciating pain and severe infection, the staff refused to provide the much needed antibiotic or pain medication. When I called to explain that CVS was closed and the pain was to much to bear until the morning, I was warned that If I were to return, the hospital would charge me another $250 and then I WAS HUNG UP ON.

Thus is a terrible place to take your loved one to and be told they only have 6-12 months to live, without doing a biopsy first to see what the actual mass is. If you can diagnose pancreatic cancer based off of a CT scan then why is a biopsy needed. Also, if you cannot tell someone that they have a certain time to live in an empathic way, then get someone who is qualified to do it. I’m so angry with the hospital right now. How can you put someone in the CDU for two and a half days, and you finally give them a room that has been contaminated. Oh, by the way the stupid bed in the CDU room was so damn loud every time you moved it made a stupid loud noise for like 5 minutes, and the nurse had the nerve to say that’s what it’s suppose to do. How do you expect someone not feeling well to get any rest. One more thing how can you starve a patient until three in the afternoon for two days not knowing if you are going to perform a procedure or not on them. For the treatment we got and are getting here we could have stayed in Clarksville and went to Tennova. At least the room would have been nice and we would not have any expectations of qualified doctors from the emergency room to the stupid general surgeon. Thanks for the emotional three day roller coaster! Hopefully my mom can have her biopsy soon and she can get the hell out of there. If you can tell I am highly pisses!

My step dad is in your facility right now. He is extremely sick and your doctors have done nothing to help him. His heart keeps going into atrial fib and has been for four days. One dr says he was told my parents wanted to leave to see their local dr...what..why would they make the 2 hour trip by ambulance just to say we want to go home!!?? The cardiologist said they could give him a pill that would help, ok that's awesome and then some other dr comes after waiting 2 days and says , we can do a pacemaker! What happened to the medication? What are your doctors doing?? Help my parents!!!

The staff is so loving and kind...from the nurses to housekeeping. I truly appreciate all that the hospital did for my husband. Thanks soo much!!

My mom nearly died of aspiration pneumonia in February. STW was on diversion and we were stuck at Tennova in Clarksville (ugh i know). Two days later once we were able to have her transferred on a vent to STW she improved so much!! She was off of the vent a day and a half later! The MICU nurses and the nurses on 7B were amazing. Dr. Webber and Dr. Li were wonderful and informative. Thank you all so much for taking care of my mom! She’s alive today because of the nurses, techs, chaplains, doctors, nursing students, and speech therapy.

Andrea Helmick

Treated my mother wonderfully. She could not have been treated better!! Thanks St Thomas!! Excellent!!!!!

I WISH I COULD LEAVE A NEGATIVE 10!!! I WOULD NOT SEND A TERRORIST HERE!! THE ONE HOSPITALIST (DR BAKER) WE HAD PROBABLY GOT HER MED DEGREE OUT OF A CRACKER JACK BOX!! THE 2 NURSES WE HAD TERESA (NIGHT) AND PENNY ( DAY) WERE LIKE OLD PRISON WARDENS THREATENING MY WIFE EVERY HOUR!! DO NOT THINK OF GETTING CARE HERE!!

The worst hospital I have seen. Brought my wife here to the emergency room because she was feeling dizzy and nauseous. Upon arrival, some dude working up front decides to do an EKG on her and makes her go behind the curtain and take off her top completey so he can do it, making my wife feel uncomfortable and pissing me off. I have worked in an ER and as an EKG technician before. There are ways of doing it while protecting a lady’s modesty. We wait forever and go back to a room where we never meet our original nurse. We get some other nurse who wasn’t happy to pick us up and well we weren’t that excited about spending our evening there either. We meet the doctor who was the only good part of our experience but in the end we pay over $1800 for them to tell her she is just dehydrated. They charged us $2000 alone for the room itself. Just a stupid room. And we get bills for 3 different doctors and we only met one. Ill never bring my family back here again.

Cassie Barber

My husband was there for 2 weeks on 7B. I cannot day enough nice things about the entire staff. The care they gave my husband was outstanding. My husband has been in several medical facilities in the past few months. St Thomas West is the best. There isn’t a nursing staff that can compare.

Paula Varden

My daughter went into the er for pneumonia. The man that registered her in took her behind a curtain to do a ekg . He told her to stand up raise her shirt, she told him she didn't have on a bra . He said that was ok you lose all modesty when you come to the er . That was before I got there with her. I'm appalled by what happened. She was so sick she went along with it and believed him Also the er dr was so nonchalant like he didn't know why we were there. He didn't seem to be concerned at all. She was treated with 2 breathing treatments , antibiotic injection, steroids. And to follow up if she gets worse. Thanks for listening Paula

Great place! Love the creek near the Seaton Parking Structure. Kind folks assisted with location and directions of waiting room. I was there for family . Outpatient Admissions ( Marty ) great customer service! Nursing Staff in Outpatient Surgery Recovery ROCK! Will recommend! Thank you for kindly taking care of family!!

St. Thomas West Emergency Department is the most UNPROFESSIONAL and UNCARING facility I have ever visited in my life!!!! I am pregnant (high risk) and I came to the ER because I FELL DOWN THE STAIRS. I’ve been at this piece of junk hospital for 3 HOURS without even an ultrasound! When I complained to the staff they were RUDE and nonchalant. I discharged myself due to lack of care and the billing department says I will be billed $475 for walking in the door. Let’s see if you receive one dime. If I could have given you all a ZERO I would have. And I will Be reporting you to the BBB and to whom ever else will listen.

Drs and nurses r great while Ur there but when u leave u never get a call back and when u call they never answer u so best thing for u to do is pack a bag and stay there especially if u live more than 2 hours away!

Tammy

Was told to be early for IV to be started for contrast, having CT of liver. Waited over an hour, CT machine kept cutting off, intercom system kept cutting out. Took approx. 45 min to do the test. Faulty CT scan equipment!

Debra Duke

2 separate times I have been to this ER and they send me home saying your fine. It’s only a sprain, take some Tylenol. Both times, went to orthopedic dr afterwards and had 1 broke wrist and now 2-3 fractured metatarsals. They weren’t even busy but the “dr” was only in there maybe 3 minutes and never saw him again. What a joke!!! The only reason they got 2 stars was because the nurses were very nice.

First time visit went great. Friendly staff, pleasant accommodations. I didn't feel like everyone was in a rush and that makes a big difference. The eating area could have been a bit cleaner but overall I enjoyed my visit.

Took my husband into the ER Sunday morning with horrible back pain traveling down his leg. Front desk was nice enough as was the nurse. However, the MD did not even have his back x-rayed and just told us he had arthritis in his hip and sent us home. Two days later we go to see ortho and he has a bulging disk in his back! I even asked to have the imaging done and they refused. He went through two excruciating days of pain with an "arthritis" diagnosis. It's despicable to have to pay so much for such HORRIBLE care

Abby Pepper Abernathy

I see Dr. Colleen Vanderkulk here for Neurology! She is wonderful! She listens and get to the bottom of things. The entire staff is super friendly. They always call and follow up, after an appointment to see how I'm doing! Highly recommend!

Anna Goolsby

Overall, this was a wonderful experience during what is typically an irritating chore - annual checkups. Free parking, quick wait-times and a smile on every staff member's face makes this the perfect place to do any procedure!

Mike Uselton

The Leroy Uselton family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses for their outstanding care and compassion during our difficult time there. We couldn't have asked for a better group of medical professionals, not only taking care of our dad, but the family as well. God bless each of you.

Alicia Kramer

I was taken good care of. When I came into the ER it was pretty busy I knew what I was there for wasn't first on any triage rating system. A nurse was so nice to see I was getting a little overwhelmed with all the activity and took care of us. I was treated when the ER slowed down. I'm being transferred to another hospital due to a spine injury. I'm so grateful for all the care each and every hospital employee I came in contact with.

My mother had a terrible experience with this hospital, and it needs to be shared. “I went to have surgery to get my kidney stones removed. When I first got there, I saw that they had gotten a translator for me. I did not request a translator to be there. My husband and I went and told the lady at the front desk that we did not want a translator; we can speak and understand English without one. She still made him come with us into the room. I did not need him at all. I answered all the questions the nurse (Kim) asked me without his help. He didn’t do anything at all except just sit there and listen to stuff about me he didn’t need to know. The nurse even said that I understood all the questions and was able to respond to them without his help. My culture doesn’t allow for a random stranger, who isn’t in the medical field, to know anything about my health. He also stressed me out the entire time we were there. I politely told the nurse that I didn’t want him to stay here any longer. She finally asked to leave and he did. I went in the room (the one where i could change and sit in until i had to go in for surgery) and I changed my clothes(and left them in there). When I was going to go in for surgery, they told my husband to take all of my stuff because I was not going to go back in the room again. They said that whenever I got out of surgery that I would have to change (into my old clothes) in the bathroom. When I did come out of surgery, they did make me go and change in the bathroom. This is the first time that a hospital has ever made me change in the bathroom after I came out of surgery. When I came out of of surgery, they put me in the (recovery?) room. The people (staff) in there were eating and drinking in front of us.(the people who were recovering from the numb shots and etc.) They were also talking very loudly. When I woke up, I saw that my arms were scratched. This of course was because of the nurses that had fake nails on (and real nails but very sharp ones). Also, my left arm (that they put all the needles in) is very blue because of the number of times they (the person that put the needle in) kept on sticking the needle back in (because they kept on losing the vein). This is the absolute worst hospital I’ve ever been to. The treatment that I received all day there was the worst I’ve ever received. I am never going back there again.”

Rob Thompson

Good Hospital. Staff is somewhat stuck up I suppose because of their location near green hills. Older nurses.

VintageLoveBirds

The ER nurses are nice, but hopefully you don't end up with doctor Paul Bergeron. He is rude and arrogant.
