My daughter was sent here when she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on May 12, 2016. She was so scared, but they made her feel so safe and taken care of. Although I feel like we will be paying this bill forever.

Niswonger is a very nice Hospital when it comes to taking care of children and making sure they're happy some of the nurses here are very very nice and then of course you have a few who are not as nice but for the most part everyone is friendly and they try to help you as much as they possibly can , the food is not too bad but it's also not great but better than most hospital food , they have no problem with cleanliness everything is super clean and and all the nurses make sure to wash their hands and used germx as much as possible. Nobody likes having their children in the hospital but if you do have to I highly recommend niswonger it's one of the nicest ones I've ever been to.

My 7 year old granddaughter had been sick for 3 days and having severe right sided pain. She couldn’t stand up straight to walk or sit for very long due to pain. Her parents took her to wellmont urgent care with no results, wellmont Hawkins county nothing from them except she maybe constipated and she needs an ultrasound but it will have to be done tomorrow, then when her mother called the next day for ultrasound nothing available till the following day so they took her to her pediatrician office that day but had to see someone else and that doctor also said could be constipation but ordered a ultrasound for the next day. She kept getting worse with the pain, so a co worker told me to have them take her to niswonger children’s hospital and they was so wonderful and they didn’t stop till they found out what was wrong with her. All the staff was so friendly and nice. The nurse she had went above and beyond. The doctors and surgeon not once said constipation, and guess what it wasn’t constipation. So I just want to say Thank you for everything you all did for my lil Miss.

My daughter was in the NICU after her birth in 2014 and it was the worst experience of my life!! The nurses and Drs were Horrible! Id NEVER take/let my child go to this hospital again!

I have given this place more than one chance with my daughter which is stupid on my part. This last time drew the line for me. My daughters kidney was failling. Her breathing was very bad. Her stats was horrible and,l her o2 in the 60s. Respiratory was,never paged till we were getting,ready to be medflight. When medflight paramedic and nurse came they noticed,my daughter getting iv,fluids that were causing her lungs to fill up more. We ended up getting put on a ventilator before being stable enough to be transported by medflight. Also they didn't have stock of lasix. I'm not saying all staff are horrible but there are a lot of bad. If you have a child with medical issues please go,somewhere else.

Our 2 year old son had tear duct surgery here. I was unimpressed with the bedside manner and friendliness of the staff. The surgery ended up starting 2 hours after it was supposed to. The worst part of this hospital is Mountain State Health Alliance. They demanded what they guessed our bill would be and when I ask how they got the number they did they couldn't explain it. They said they would refuse services to my son if I didn't pay in full before the surgery day. I paid them a portion of what we would owe and they acted like it wasn't good enough. A 15 minute surgery was almost 21,000 dollars from them. That doesn't include the doctor and where he was put to sleep. We will not by choice use this hospital again.

Great hospital and staff. We use St. Jude affiliate here. Johnson City Medical center they also have a Shriners children's hospital affiliate here also. Highly recommend this area hospital.

Had an experience that I wouldn't want to have again. Grandson had his appendix removed and one nurse was not very nice to him. He's only four and she was rougher with him than what was necessary. I called and left a voicemail with the nurse manager and the problem was corrected rather quickly. Nurse manager Hannah McPeek went above and beyond to correct the problem and was extra accommodating to my daughter in the process. As a nurse myself, this meant alot to me. I also want to recognize my grandson's nurse he had when he was admitted and her name also is Hannah. I instantly felt like we were in good hands when we arrived. Hospitals need to be full of nurses like these two are.

I was unhappy with the care of my 2 year old daughter I received back last winter, the nurses and doctors were nice but that was it!! I took care of my daughter myself, they wanted me to administer all meds, they wanted me to hold oxygen on a babies face for 24 hrs by myself not one time did they come in and say here take a break we will do it, they held her down to put tubes in her nose after I told them she would pull them out, 5 mins later they were out! Never came to check on her had to hit nurse button all night long, she stayed for 2 days and I wasn’t a happy parent. The nurses are horrible with patient care don’t send your babies here!! Nurse asked me which medicine I wanted to give her like I knew what the best was for her. They’re horrible!!

Having experienced this hospital from both a patient and a student I can say that if you have a choice you will want to seek care elsewhere. Our patient rights were extremely violated. Some of our nurses were very kind and some were extremely rude. I was appalled when I watched nurses spend their time doing their taxes, braiding each others hair, and taking 1 hour lunch breaks. I know how demanding the nursing profession can be, but this is one area that needs to be completely reset.

They kept my son alive so that's good but they were rude to me, negligent on some stuff. The cleaners threw away my clothes, nurse "lost" our personal belongings, some staff were great, others violated our patient rights and need not to have a job. Oh and the diacharge planner wrote appointment info down wrong. Like really? They weren't very thorough with information either.

My daughter fell and broke her left femur all while being in a cast on her right leg already. She has osteo genesis imperfecta, we called the after hours nurse and she told us to bring her to niswonger children's ER, from the moment we arrived at the ER everyone was amazing, they took her straight back into a room. The staff, nurses, and Drs here have all been amazing and all have went above and beyond to take care of our daughter, they have given her playdoh, a stuffed teadybear, and a unicorn to make her feel safe and comfortable. They have also been very kind to us and every time they have came in have made sure we didn't need anything. I would give this place 10 stars if it was possible. I have had experience at other ERs and hospitals in the past and I would have to say this is the best place I have ever been to. They made us feel comfortable the entire time and kept us updated on everything, if we had any questions about anything and they didn't have an answer they would go find someone who could answer it. It takes special kind of people to work with kids and have the patience it takes to do this job day in and day out. I can't say enough good things about this place. The rooms are clean and the staff, nurses, and Drs have very good bed side manners and good hand washing hygiene. My daughter ended up in a spica cast and they have been amazing on helping us with and questions and concerns with it, from how to change her diaper to traveling questions. I would recommend this place to any and everyone that needs to take their child to the hospital. Overall I will have to say I have been very impressed with everyone and everything.

This place is very clean and Professional. They are very nice and helped take care of my daughter. She spend her birthday in the hospital because of high fever and seizures. The nurses even celebrated her birthday in the hospital. Kudos to those nurses they make it happen. Thank you guys

Speaking from an employee standpoint, I give it 5 stars, and is on of my favorite places to work. The nurses are are very kind and knowledgeable, and do very well with children. The rooms are also, in my opinion, the best in the hospital and I believe the most spacious. TV, bathroom, bed, chair, couch, and a big window..At least is the case for PICU. Every time I get scheduled to work here, I look forward to it.

Absolutely disgusting place. Very outdated. Very grungy. Dirt and dust everywhere, what looked to be unchanged or at the very least stained sheets. The table had what could have been human feces on it. Not a single nurse, PA, or doctor washed their hands at all. My infant was manhandled and traumatized, with her head banged into the table TWICE by the nurse. The nurse placed my infant in "what looks and smells like urine" according to the nurse, right in front of me, told me it must be the baby's urine. The baby that hadn't been on the table before and was wearing a diaper?? Yeah, right. She then proceeded to tell me it was my problem and to change the baby's clothes if I'd brought another outfit. The "doctor" insisted on a surgical procedure without even having looked at my daughter's file. My daughter had ONE symptom and they insisted she had a condition, without testing or investigating. When I questioned them, they said they know best and I don't know what I'm talking about. These people that came into the room, didn't even know my daughter's name,couldn't follow basic safety and health protocol, and had already traumatized my child, said that. Before surgery, they wanted to do extremely invasive procedures on my infant that would have triggered symptoms they WANTED her to have, and made her sick. Even if it weren't for the way we were treated, the lack of cleanliness and blatant disregard for any kind of health and safety protocol was astounding and repulsive. Especially when they TOLD US that the kid across the hall had certain things going on that required quarantine(HIPAA!), they wore no gear, no hand washing, and they'd come straight to my daughter's room and expect to take her. I'd give this place 0 stars if I could.

My grandaughter has had stomach problems for over 3 months every where we took her they treated her for a virus sent her home. She got sick this morn I brought her here. Xrays blood work complete work up. I'm very impressed. Thank you Childrens hospital Johnson City. They are still professionals in the medical feild.

My son had to have his appendix out and they put him on the second floor and the nurses on that floor was awesome it was his first ever surgery and he was very nervous but they really helped with him not only did they take care of him but also made sure me and his dad didnt need aything they were awesome
