My husband injured himself today while working in Hilton Head and came to this ER with 4 in laceration on his left wrist that required stitches. The ER staff did not attempt to assist him in any way and after waiting almost 2 hours, he finally got the bleeding to stop on his own and wrapped it up enough to drive home to Charleston and have it treated.

Worst hospital ever - go somewhere else if you can. I needed stitches, waited 2 hours for a doctor to see me, who then proceeded to stitch the wound incorrectly. After 2-weeks it was still not healing, and I had to go to another facility to get it taken care of. I received a $2,389 bill for the hospital, and another $829 for the doctor - for 3 stitches!!!

Poor customer service today. I will never go there for anything elective again. I will tell my friends the same. I had a less than stellar experience for my mammogram. After speaking with the CEO I decided to give it another try. Big mistake. The waiting room had 1 threadbare 2 year old magazine. No TV, no Wifi. No coffee for my husband while he was waiting for me. My case was for 11:30. I didn't get in until 1:30.The nurse starting my IV had a snippy attitude after she couldn't get the IV in on 2 Tries. My husband had his colonoscopy in the Surgery Center this week. A much better customer service experience all around. People there keep asking you what can they do for you. There were TVs, magazines, newspapers, snacks, free coffee, even a nice carry bag to take home. And He was in and out of there in 2 hours. As a nurse, this was a sub-par patient experience.

I would like to thank, Dr. Nick and nurse Vincent for their quick work.

While on vacation my daughter developed a sore throat that became worse with time. We arrived at the ER around 1:00AM and were attended to by a doctor and his staff. They did an excellent job examining her and offered a throat wash and some Tylenol. Three months later we receive a bill for $960. I am in healthcare and understand that the system is broken but if hospitals continue to take advantage of their patients there will be no patients left to help. How long do you think it is going to take before Hilton Head Hospitals reputation for egregious billing practices will become commonplace and nobody will go there. Buyer Beware!!!

My wife and I have spent 30+ years in health care. During a vecent visit to Hilton Head, my wife came donw with severe abdominal pain, after several hours we went to the ER at Hilton Head Hospital. From the moment we walked through the door we were treated very well. A couple hours later she was in surgery for an emergent appendectomy. 12 hrs later we were walking out of the hospital. From the ER, to the OR, to the floor staff the care was exceptional. Was a vacation we will not soon forget, but a shout out to the exceptional staff.

I went to Hilton Head Hospital as an alternative to Beaufort Memorial where the level of care is sub-par. The wait was long, but the doctor took his time when he saw me, answered all my questions, and generally treated me like a human being. The facility seemed older and outdated, but the staff was kind and professional. If I'm in need of emergency services again, I'll drive the extra thirty minutes to Hilton Head.

I've lived on Hilton head 10+ years now, been to this hospital and had even family members sadly work at this hospital; I have yet to hear or read anything good about it. I've read reviews from 5 years ago with the same complaints and problems; seen that all the owner has done is respond to a couple of the reviews with the same sorry excuse of an apology and a phone number to direct them to someone else to deal with the problem, but have yet to approach the situation themselves directly because the problem obviously lies with their staff in the ER. After 5 years you still can't get it right? It's sad and pathetic when Hilton head makes as much money as they do and they can't provide the community with a better hospital staff/ owner that would actually take our emergencies serious.

Casey Young

Had to visit the ER. Short wait and got the care we needed.

Cody Forbes

Horrible, just horrible they just have you sit there for hours at a time. They stick you in a room and just leave you there. You tell them your in pain and uncomfortable to breathe , no one checks on you or attempts to figure what's wrong . You have nurses walking around talking about the news and what phone they want next . I feel they clear and start over new with staff who are willing to do their jobs . Disappointed

Unfortunately, I had to make a visit to the ER while on vacation in HHI. This was a stressful situation, but I was able to be admitted immediately and the staff was great. Dr. Clodfelter was the doctor on shift that took care of me, and he was amazing. Very thoughtful, very smart, very thorough, great bedside manner, took time to explain everything. Was very grateful for his care. He made the stressful situation much better. The next day the hospital called to make sure I was ok, sent my medical record to my doctors office, etc. Thank you!

Victor M. Cruz

Very excellent reception, treatment and follow up on my case. I will recommend the ER as one of the best I have ever been.

My father has an inner ear infection and they were trying to discharge him without giving him meclizine. I'm a nurse so I know what to expect. Tape was left on his skin after disconnecting IV. I guess what do you expect from a hospital that pays their nurses little to nothing. However, the doctor was knowledgeable and educated my dad and is, the family members. ER not so up to date and room sharing.

GREAT CARE On vacation in Hilton Head. I broke my foot. Went to Hilton Head Hospital. To start with, when I got out of my car limping and a security guard ran to get me a wheel chair. The registration desk employee was nice and very courteous. The wait time was less than fifteen minutes. The nurse came in and took all my vitals, she spent time with me obtaining medical information. A doctor came in , examined my foot. He ordered an x ray. Came back in after a short wait to let me know my foot was broken. I was fitted with crutches and a boot. When I left the security guard came out to the car to wave good bye. I received follow up calls after to see how I was doing. I received great care. I would go to this hospital again if care was needed.

Hosrrible service, do not put your lifes at risk. Not only is it horrible service, they bill your out of nowhere and no one knows a thing of why or where they are billing you from. This is a highly unorganized hospital.

If you're in a life or death situation and this is your only option to possibly live, then by all means. If not, take your chances somewhere else. The first nurse to come in pulled off my surgical boot (I was 3 weeks post op and had nothing to do with why I was there) with all the care of a wild animal. When I reacted by reaching for my foot, she said, and I quote "well, it's got to come off". I was given fluids and 2 prescription strength immodium and then was told the dr wanted a stool sample. Even though I hadn't had anything to eat or drink since early that morning. Once they realized I couldn't give them a sample, I was left in the room for over 3 hours with only the volunteer coming in to check on me. I was on the verge of walking out when the dr finally came back to tell me he didn't know what was wrong. I had to ask what to do if I didn't get better, and he literally shrugged at me. If you want to be manhandled, spoken to as if you're imagining you're sick and treated as an after thought, then this is your hospital. If, like me, you have an unknown illness that isn't getting better and need actual medical care, go somewhere else.

Jonathan Rios

This is the worst hospital I’ve ever been to in my life.. I was waiting in the lobby for 4 hours before I was called up in massive pain. While I was waiting to be called people were coming in and were called before I was. N when I did finally get called I was waiting an other hour for the doctor for him to give me a guess of what was wrong and sent me home meanwhile I’m still in severe pain the worst place ever..

If I could rate the ER in this hospital with NO stars, it wouldn't even begin to express my disgust with this poorly managed waste of insurance payments! First, the ladies room in the ER waiting room was absolutely filthy! I needed to help my Mom into the restroom because of a back injury. I didn't even want to let her pants touch the floor as it was just filthy. Show a little pride! Empty your mop bucket at least once in awhile rather than just sloshing around dirty water. Second, apparently the nurses there aren't aware of a little known federal law called HIPAA. Two of them came out into the ER waiting room to speak with my Mom. Basically, they did her intake in front of 30-40 people sitting there. The ER was backed up for 4 hours, so much so that they diverted ambulances to other hospital in the area. I get it, your were crazy busy! How dare you talk to me and my family about my Mom's personal care in the middle of a packed room of strangers. She finally got into the 15-bed emergency room and the attendant told her that it would be at least 2 hours before a doctor would be in to see her. At this point, we're in for 4 hours and have another 2 or so to wait. Call somebody in for the love of God!!!! Third, the bed she was taken to was leaning to one side obviously in need of repair. She finally was taken by us to the St. Joseph's in Savannah and found she had a vertebral fracture. Your were going to put her in a broken bed!!!! If you're considering retiring to Hilton Head BE VERY AFRAID if you need quality health care at this facility. I've seen truck stops run with more pride and caring than this train wreck of a medical facility!

Jill Kight

I have used the ER twice now due to a reoccurring condition. I was put in touch with a lady who got me into an OBGYN immediately and continuously checked on me everyday. I’m so thankful for the services I have received. Robin Otterbine is so helpful also and caring! Thank you!

My mother in law was here for 21 days sad to say that she passed away earlier today, I would like to thank every nurse doctor and nurses aid for everything, you all where obviously caring and loving, and her being deaf wasn't easy for you all, my family and I would thank you one and personally if I could.

Unfortunately I have had two experiences with this hospital with family member, both terrible. Elderly mother at the emergency room with what Dr. immediately suspected was anemia, ordered blood work and they left her for 2 hours with no contact at all. 5 hours later they finally released her. Terribly understaffed. Equipment, tables have old tape marks on them with dirt accumulated. This hospital is FILTHY, dust and dirt built up over time on the floors. No wonder this hospital is nationally rated one of the worst for infections in the country

Ron Drager

Very disappointed as my son had x-rays this summer at Hilton Head Hospital(just to make sure his ankle was not broken). We were given an estimate that it would be $768.95, but the bill came in the mail for $2498.09. Seems like vacation hospital price gouging. Not a fan!

Jay Moon

"Hit or miss" as one local described it and it was a big miss. Avoid this hospital and go to Cross island or Bluffton hospital. I'm not going to list all the mistakes and rudeness but the list is extensive.

Gillian Karatassos

I chose to have my baby at Hilton Head Hospital. The Pediatric Nursing Staff was beyond stellar, and cared for myself and my baby with the best bedside manner imaginable. My entire family was impressed with how these nurses came together to ensure my stay was as comfortable as possible. I needed a required c-section, and I don't think I would have had such a good recovery elsewhere. I'm grateful that I was able to find a group of Nurses and Doctors who truly love what they do!

Never go to this hospital. It's basically a hotel you can stay at before you die. One nurse, when told by someone behind the desk to check on her patient, said, "He's on hospice", "he came here to die". Really????

Got stitches for our 8 year old after she tripped coming off the beach. In and out in 45 minutes, ER doctor was fantastic and great with kids. Also did a great job with the stitches.

Our son ended up in the emergency room while we were on vacation. Hilton Head Hospital took great care of us. We were taken to a room as soon as we arrived. The reception, registration staff, and triage nurse were so kind and caring. The nurses, radiologist, and doctor we saw were also friendly and took good care of us. We were treated and out in less than two hours, which is great for an emergency room. Thank you for the great care you provided!

Hilton Head Hospital Is By Far, The Most Outstanding And Proficient Running Hospital I've Visited. Thanks To The Tremendous Care By The Staff, Including The Extraordinary Dr. Kaup, The Phenomenal Dr. Snowman, And The Greatest, Dr. Clodfelter. These 3 Doctors Keep This Hospital Running At The Greatest Speeds With The Best Care Offered In South Carolina, I Am So Thankful For This Hospital Taking Care Of Me, Especially As I'm Battling A Long Term Chronic Disease(Ulcerative Pancolitis/Crohn's Disease). They Make Sure I'm Very Comfortable, Give Me The Straight Hardcore Talks And Do Every Test Required To Make Sure I'm Not Getting Worse, But To Make Sure I Stay In Tip Top Shape. I Truly Cant Thank The Doctors, And Nurses Enough, For All They Have Done For Me, And Hopefully Continue Doing For Me. Thank You Everyone!!!!!! #BestHospitalAround

We had to take our granddaughter to ER with possible pneumonia. Received excellent care by doctors and nurses. The staff helped us by making sure we knew where everything was. We were 5 hours from home so it helped to have everyone so attentive.

We were visiting relatives in HH when my 87 year old mother felt she needed hospital care..so we went to the emergency room and had a very positive experience. Everyone from the register secretary to the doctors were very helpful. Dr Kaup was our emergency dr and admitted mom for an overnight stay and lots of tests. Mom was diagnosed with lung cancer 7 mo ago and the staff had her breathing better almost immediately. They continued to improve her condition so she could rejoin the family 24 hrs later. The nurses who cared for mom were all amazing but we especially want to thank Lauren,Sanannah, Rhonda and Suzanne from P T for their kindness. Also we want to acknowledged Dr Kelly Bouthillet for her wonderful treatment and expertise with mom. She explained everything so well to mom that she decided to stop smoking . I'm not sure why there have been negative reviews for Hilton Head Hospital...we could have not been better served and are truly grateful for all who helped us.

Honestly, even if it is the ER, I understand the wait and the room vacancy issues. What I don't understand is when it was allowed to be rude to patients that waste their time and money and credit on that ER visit that just didn't cut it. Tempers from doctors, attitudes from nurses, unnecessary test and CT scans done. I was hospitalized for 3 days after going into shock from IV contrast that was put in my whole body before ever actually being tested with my blood. Nice bid hospital bill there, I was getting the MRI because of a Minor Car accident, which lead to actually being hospitalized. Treatment could always be better. Its not like people enjoy being here or being at any hospital. What happened to doctors and nurses that actually cared and knew what they were doing.

So we went to Hilton head hospital what a waste of time first complaint was the doctor he was just a rude idiot with no respect toward us, number two the trail of blood that was from inside to the parking lot was there the next time I came which was two days later! Friend was sick he came back with some bs oh she smokes pot so she's going threw a withdraw like really??? Went home to Yale she had a stomach ulcer I do not recommend dr snowman to anyone infact he should not be working there he's not cut out for the job he has no brains to be in that trade !!!!!

My boyfriend and I went to the ER for pain in his lower back and numbness in his feet and legs. The doctor Michael Kaup was rude, apathetic, always interrupted, used incorrect prescription medication information, and said his condition "was nothing." Nothing for pain, no MRI because "it wasn't an emergency," and then released him. This hospital and staff are a complete joke, except for the nurse in our room. I'd rather suffer at home then go back to this building labeled as a hospital.

Shannon Parrott

Amazing care at Hilton Head Hospital! My mother was seen very promptly and everyone was so caring. I would recommend this hospital to anyone. They were so helpful in a time of crisis.

BlufftonHHI

No idea why people give bad reviews. Maybe these affluent people have never been to a big city hospital. Every single person we came in contact with was amazing. Registration thru discharge in the ER during high holiday season. We are so fortunate in such a small community to have such great doctors, nurses and staff. Thank you Holton Head Hospital!!

Diamond Sanders

My boyfriend was admitted for severe abdominal pain, naseau, and vomiting. When we arrived in the ER waiting room at about 8:00 AM we were the only ones there. We waited for over 45 mins without being triaged before having to report that his condition was worsening as he was vomiting blood at this point. Once in a room, it seemed there was a lack of attention and shortness of staff for the very few in the ER at the time. The nurse attending to him did little to comfort him during this time and rather made comments insinuating she didn’t believe or understand the extent of his condition and pain. We repeatedly had to tell multiple personnel that his condition wasn’t improving between extended wait periods and little was done. After being hooked up to an IV for over an hour it took multiple calls to the nurse (or any) nurse to have help taking out his IV so he could use the restroom. At almost 5 hours, he was still in a considerable amount of pain with vomiting. By far the worst experience I have ever had in a hospital...

Hilton Head Hospital is the worst medical facility . Don’t go to emergency because you will sit For hours. The hospital care is the worst. The majority of nurses walk around with an attitude. The doctors they send in have no bedside manor. My husband who needed oxygen all night We found out the next morning the oxygen tank was unplugged by an airhead nurse. My husband is no longer living.... I am so sorry I didn’t take him to Charleston or the Savannah Memorial. Hilton Head Hospital is the worst. We have had other bad experiences there. I know so many people in Sea Pines and Hilton Head Plantation who have horror stories about Hilton Head Hospital. After my husband passed away I moved out of the area. I will not be able to live in this area with Such a poor healthcare system. There are beautiful things about HHI but not the medical care. It is totally the worst!! Save yourself before you think about settling in HHI.

Michael Jones NAPA / FedEx Ground

One of the worst you can imagine. If you're about to die I guess it would be the last resort. Do not use if all possible. Drive a few miles and get better treatment. They will take all the insurance money they can get out of you and give you very little treatment. I had to check myself out. They would have kept me there several more days I feel sure. For very little treatment I was charged 24 thousand dollars for 2 days stay. I figure the Jello they served me must have cost 5 thousand dollars a cup.

Jordan Long

My son was treated in the emergency room very fast friendly nurses/doctors and staff. The entire visit maybe took 45 minutes. Very pleased.

Freaking slowest er in the world

Worst medical facility I’ve ever been to. The carelessness I witnessed was downright cruel. After getting registered and into a room in the ER, I waited over 4 hours with severe abdominal pain (kidney stone) before Ever seeing a doctor. Pain medication was still more than an hour after that because there were so few nurses working. I was never offered a blanket, cup of water, or anything just ignored in horrible pain. To be clear, the low standard of care here is 100% attributable to bad hospital administration. The ER was horrifically understaffed. When the nurses did have a second, they were very efficient but no one should be expected to work in the conditions they were working in. Coverage was much better after being admitted but beware the ER. It’s an accident waiting to happen and patient care is not a priority of management. Can’t wait to get the bill

I was on Labor and Delivery 3rd floor May 8th, 2019 gave birth to my beautiful healthy baby girl. My nurse was Carla and she was absolutely wonderful from beginning to end. Im not sure what I would have done with out her she was very kind, caring, compassionate, and spent time with my Husband and I to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed though out our stay and before discharging baby home. She went above and beyond. Also, Jean the lactation consultant has been such a big help through this whole process, and her breastfeeding support group is really helpful and supportive to all new moms. Thank you for making the birth of our first child a great experience and one we won't forget! Michelle & Adam Frink

Our teenage daughter was treated in the emergency room while we were on vacation. She was taken to a room as soon as we got there. The registration gal, and triage nurse were so friendly and helpful. The nurses and doctor we saw were so wonderful and took excellent care of us! The hospital followed up with us the following day. Thank you for the great care we recieved!!

Amy Ramey is a liar and ruined my life by falsifying physician's notes and my medical records in order to have me hospitalized. Dr. Ramey is an embarrassment to the hospital and needs to have her medical license revoked.

Amanda Wolf

Nurses, drs, etc were wonderful in the ER. Everything went well until an old grumpy red haired registration lady showed up. Our nurse gave me a nice cushioned office chair to sit in because I’m 38 WEEKS PREGNANT (was there with my husband). Registration lady kept looking at me funny from the nurses station. She comes to the door, asks me if my chair was from the nurses station. I said yes they gave it to me. She asked who, I said our nurse. She says oh well that’s our chair and we need it. Continues to make me get out of the chair, wheels it back to the nurses station, gathers her things and leaves. One other lady came by 5 min later, sat in the chair, did something on the computer and left. Chair was empty from that point on. Totally and completely RUDE. Seems like maybe certain individuals in patient access need work in the compassion department.

Sierra Frazier

Their ER is very slow I understand I’m not the only patient but it shouldn't take 45 mins for a nurse to come after being paged & I went there cause I was having some flank(side) pain and receive no pain medicine , my pain also increased upon my discharged i will never go back to this ER WORST EXPERIENCE

Kerry Dahlberg

Going to the ER is never a pleasant trip, but HHH made it as painless as possible. We were there about 2.5 hours, from walking in the door to being discharged, for a broken clavicle on a Saturday night. The receptionist joked with us, the charge nurse triaged us immediately, and the ER Doc was quick and professional.

you be better off dieing at home, if you aint sick when you get there you will be by time you leave , they are rude inconciderate ,and play head games to protect themselves from malpractice suit,, first time i was sent home wit pneumonia , very very sick, second time doctors sent me there to get a mri and hv my pain checked out , promised i would go , doctor badgered me so bad ,I told him forget it ill go home wait for to see me doc fri,, they held me against my will for almost two hrs total , cost me 30 cab ride and cab driver was outside and hr ,,this place is nuts ,,would not take me out of a room of 3 people with severe illnesses , had to beg for a mask , finally then had copos called on me cus i took a picture of a empty sanatation pump and they wanted me camera , it was not worth , , i would die before i would ever return to be so discracefully treated mush less they have no bedside manners , crappiest hospital i hv ever been in , and have traveled alot , we are ex millitary

Labor & Delivery center isn't the best. They never believe the patient when something is happening until something happens! Several bad experiences.

David Robisnon

Spent 2 hours in the ER. Someone came in next to us was in and out within 16 minutes. The only reason they finally came was we were walking out. Most useless/waste of time and money. My fell and hurt her knee. The ER doctor barley touched her and said when you get home see an orthopedic surgeon. She had a torn ACL. They didn't x-ray her or do anything.

Antoinette Binedell

The worst hospital I've ever visited!! My husband got really sick in December, and I took him to the ER with a high temp, bad cough, congestion, etc (clue! Flu?) He was seen by a doctor, who promptly ordered (in this order) 1. EKG. 2. Blood tests. 3. X-Rays. 4. CT scan. Almost as an afterthought, one of the nurses decided to do a flu test. (duh.) Which turned out positive. After that, they couldn't wait to get him out of there. Should that not have been the first test?????????? Of course not! How else could they charge us $14,224???? Yes, that's FOURTEEN THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY FOUR dollars. What a scam!!!

leah kidwell

This hospital gets one star for being clean and for having a good volunteer system. Those are the only 2 positives I could find. 3 out of 3 ER visits, each ER Dr and RN were apathetic and condescending and put 0 thought into real medical problem solving. To make things worse, this is a for-profit hospital. When you get your bill, you will notice supplies and services cost more than any other hospital you have likely encountered. Tenet hospital systems will demand you pay off your bill within ten months. They will continually send harassing letters when you make monthly payments based in what your household income/budget allows rather than what the pay off would be if you divided your hospital bill into 10 equal payments. If it is possible to make it to MUSC, in Charleston, I strongly urge everyone to go there rather than Hilton Head Hospital.

I came here to get my mrsa/staph infection treated instead of them helping me to treat the mrsa/staph infection the antibiotics they gave me what was told by my primary doctor they prescribed me the wrong antibiotics also weak antibiotics ...... I just don’t understand if the antibiotics they prescribed me were working I wouldn’t come back the 3rd time complaining about the pain For Goodness Sakes I heard it could be deadly if it’s not treated correctly and I felt like I was dying each every time I get out of the hospital having to come back when I came back the 3rd visit I got nothing but a attitude from the doctor when I told her about my mrsa is hurting me she didn’t do anything but prescribe me more pain killers than what I really needed to heal my mrsa FOR ANYONE WHO HAS MRSA DO NOT COME TO THIS HOSPITAL GOOGLE SEARCH ABOUT MRSA/STAPH INFECTION IT COULD BE DEADLY IF ITS NOT TREATED CORRECTLY BECAUSE IT IS ALSO ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANT SO MAKE SURE THEY GAVE YOU THE RIGHT PRESCRIPTION OF THE RIGHT ANTIBIOTICS I HONESTLY FEEL INSTEAD OF SAVING MY LIFE THEY RATHER WANTED ME DIE INSTEAD

The ED was terrible. Everyone avoids you, the nurse assigned didn't return to speak with me after I've been asking to speak with a physician who never came. The nurse exasperatedly tore off my 95 year old grandfathers' monitor connections and yanked his arm where he yelped! I think I considered charging at her by then but the redeeming light was that of be rid of her soon. FYI, the Ed was not very busy she obviously wanted to get rid of us and go home. Very poor nursing. I'm an ED nurse myself and I reflected hard on seeing myself in the patient position for the first time. I have yet to remember ever acting like she did. On a positive note... The ICU nurses were amazing, very attentive answered my questions and phone calls. Even took the time to give me an update! Wow! Thank you!

My daughter had a sea ray sting so we looked up the reviews on the HHI hospital emergency room. The ratings were terrible. Unfortunately this is the only hospital on HHI. We went to the hospital expecting it to be less the average based on the reviews and would have been ok with that as this is not a major city hospital. We were just grateful to have a facility on the island. It turns out we should have listened to the reviews!! We though it must be a bunch of tourists complaining, it can't be as bad as the reviews state. Guess what, it was worse then I could have imagined. What a train wreck!!! We preregistered online, then went directly to the hospital. Once we got there they had us manually redo everything we filled out online. Remember my child is in great pain with a inch and a half sting ray cut/sting in her ankle. We sat down and then waited some three hours. We watched three waives of people with no apparent emergency be taken into the ER while we waited. At about the three and a half hour mark a man staggers in to the front window and states I think I am having a heart attack!! He was close to passing out at the front desk, right next to my child and me. The nurse/receptionist told him to fill out all the forms. He was about to fall down. I was actually ready to catch him if he started to fall. No one helped him and one one brought out a wheelchair or came out form behind the window to assist him in any way. His wife finally arrived to help him, otherwise I would have had to catch him before he fell to the floor. The hospital is by far the worst facility I have ever been to for services. I have been to hospital all over the world, including places that I would not take my worst enemy to,, this ranks with the worst hospitals I have ever been to in my life. If I could give this place a -10 Stars I would. My god, they are there to help people and they just don't care. At some point this place is going to get sued and deservedly so!! We left the hospital ER waiting room "un-treated" after waiting three and a half hours. Before we left I asked the receptionist how much longer it might be. She said it could be at least another three or four hours. How is that possible in a "Hospital ER"!!! To conclude, the general online reviews from others give this hospital dreadful reviews on average. My daughters ER experience was worse than dreadful. IF YOU HAVE THE ABILITY AND OPPORTUNITY TO USE A DIFFERENT HOSPITAL (SAVANNAH OR CHARLESTON), I WOULD SUGGEST YOU TAKE THAT OPTION IF POSSIBLE. THE AMOUNT OF TIME IT TAKES TO DRIVE TO SAVANNAH IS MOST DEFINITELY WORTH THE SUPERIOR LEVEL OF ER SERVICE YOU WILL RECEIVE. THE HHI HOSPITAL ER OPERATION AND STAFF APPEARS TO BE LESS THAN CARING AND PRETTY MUCH INCOMPETENT. I want everyone to know I have only done two reviews in my life and the were for Amazon products. I have never been motivated to give a bad review to any medical facility until today. This is. Hospital ER!! Someone could end up in big trouble and I don't want others to go through this same experience.

Shame that such a beautiful island has such terrible service when it comes to the hospital. When into the ER after having seizures and as soon as I walked into the triage area, you can feel the tension. The staff is not friendly or at least respectful, I got in to a wallway cause they were out of rooms which is understandable, but there i stud where no one offered me a blanket or pillow just the plain bed till lots of hours later And like 9-10 hours later a nurse comes to tell me that why I’m I not wearing a hospital gown? That he feels very uncomfortable when he sees a patient with out a gown cause they can just walk out unnoticed.and I told him that I was never offered one so he put a gown over my cloths, I thought that was a joke. I had no call bottom or way to get my nurse attention while in this area, Radiology staff was great though. They also gave me HOT top water with meds and then got mad cause I spit it on the floor. It was an overall terrible experience

I came in through the ER and spent 4 days. I will always use this hospital from now on! I have used beaufort and coastal Carolina hospitals several times because they were closer but was very unsatisfied every time. I decided to give hilton head a shot and couldn't be happier! Dr Gilbreth and Dr housson and Dr solar were wonderful. All of the nurses were fantastic! In fact all of the staff was great. I will never go anywhere else.

We were in Hilton Head on vacation when my 2 year old son had an emergency which required a procedure that he had to be put under for. Everyone from the registration to the nurses to the doctors were amazing. Very thoughtful and reassuring. We were in and out within 2 hours and were thoroughly impressed with the service we experienced while there.

My daughter went to the emergency room with severe stomach pain. Many expensive tests later she was diagnosed with constipation. Well that was not the case. She had an intestinal yeast infection we later learned from another health professional. Our insurance was billed $12,000.00 of which we are responsible for $3,000.00. The hospital will not budge a dollar and will not admit they were wrong. If it is not life or death do yourself a favor and go to Coastal Carolina or Savannah. Well it has been a week since they asked me to send my contact info, which I did the same day. Surprised no one has contacted me. Why even post a request to do so under my review if there was no intention of doing so?

I've been a phlebotomist for 13+ yrs so when I tell a RN they blew my vein, I just might know what I'm talking about. So I'd appreciate them listening instead of trying to prove me wrong and intentionally hurting me.

Excellent experience at Hilton Head Hospital. Family member was evaluated in the ER and received prompt diagnosis and care. The ER nurses were professional and compassionate in dealing with our situation and went out of their way to make our family feel comfortable. The GI and anesthesia physicians were also top notch and professional. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

I didn't have a very good experience at this hospital at all. I was 34 weeks pregnant when I went in with a temp of 103. Took awhile just to get into the er which they were very nice there. After that I went to maternity which again they were nice there trying to figure out what was wrong with me. Finally I got admitted into icu which was the worst experience ever. Right when I got down there one nurse complained on why I was even there cause my fever and body aches would be random and they were talking about sending me home, she was rude to me the whole time I was there.the My fever kept spiking my oxygen levels kept going down they monitored my baby twice in a matter of the whole 48 hours i was there while watching me get progressively worse. The nurses were rude to my family who were just asking questions since I couldn't talk because i couldn't breathe. I didn't have my temp taken in 8 hours into being in icu which I thought while your in icu they are suppose to non stop monitor you but not at this hospital. I got to a point where some nurses in icu were standing outside my door telling my family the doctor knows I'm getting worse they were going to transfer me because there is nothing they can do. Mind you I've already been there for 2 days now and they were finally deciding to transfer me. I got helicoptered to Charleston where they thought they were going to have to take my baby early and treat me after because I was in that bad of shape. I am better thanks to the hospital in Charleston. It was the scariest and worst experience I've ever had. Some doctors and nurses where good there but honestly I shouldn't have gotten to the level I did being at a hospital. If you're in critical condition/ have time to go to a different hospital then do it , don't ever go to Hilton head because their staff/doctors can't handle the service you need provided by real professionals.

Lovely staff at the one day surgery department. Everyone was so friendly and caring! Thank you for making this stressful situation better!

Extremely rude ER staff, told me my chronic back pain was in my head, went to Beaufort ER shortly after and found that my spine was torsioned with exceptional care. My son was also born in the Hilton Head hospital and it was an awful experience. One of the nurses was extremely rough with him as well, never been so disgusted in my life at what should be a health facility on multiple occasions. I was born on Hilton Head myself and many people avoid the Hilton Head hospital because it is well known to be absolutely awful.

My mother was left in the same night gown she was to brought the ER in for 5 DAYS and never bathed. They also performed a "sterile" procedure on her in that same night gown. She wasn't given her medication in a timely manner and I was never given any information until I arrived from Chicago. Try and get a flight during Easter weekend it cost me $1,600. No one let me know a thing that was happening until I cornered a nurse. Now she know has to have the procedure done again!!!!! I would give this hospital negative stars if I could.

I have never been treated so poorly in my entire life. We came in Wednesday night with my two month old daughter who was having difficulty breathing. At check in I was told it was busy so to just take a seat. So I took a seat and waited for maybe 15 mins. My daughters breathing became worse so I went back up to the receptionist to see if I could be seen ASAP. She said it was busy and she would see. My daughter was in the waiting room coughing and gasping for air. It was a pretty scary sight for you would think anyone to see. So my husband went up to the desk where now there was no one stationed and started knocking on the desk, he was then greeted by security. We explained again we needed to been seen, at least triaged so we could know her vitals. We were told to take a seat and wait our turn. We then asked if there were any other hospitals in the area and the security lady said she didn't know. One of the other patients in the waiting room told us where another hospital was. It is unbelievable the lack of concern and empathy your receptionist and security guard had for us. Luckily we were able to drive 30 mins to the next hospital and get amazing care from a genuinely concerned team. I have never been treated like that ever in my life, and before Wednesday I had only had good experiences at hospitals. Step up your standards!

Absolutely insane pricing, do not go to this hospital unless you have to go in life or death situation. It is 200% to 300% to hospitals in Ohio. I found countless price gouging articles online about this hospital. If you can go to an urgent care it will save you 1000's! There are great doctors all over the place and they do nothing here different to justify 1.00 more than other hospitals. I appreciate doctors and what they do, but the cost is severely unreasonable that the companies charge within this facilitates!

Beth Owens

I was here about two years ago and it seems that nothing has changed as far as the poor quality of care provided. I made constructive complaints to no avail.

Nurses and staff were wonderful! If you don't have insurance I'd suggest going to another hospital that will offer better assistance and financial help. Went in to the ER around noon on Saturday and at 830pm they told me they wanted to keep me overnight so they can do tests in the morning. I didn't get moved to my room until 530am Sunday morning. I hadn't eaten or drank anything while I was there all day Saturday. Sunday I was offered a liquid diet, I think there was some confusion about what tests were to be done. I was told no food or drinks after midnight Saturday. I asked the nurse and doctor if I would be able to leave but they said they didn't think so, they were waiting for the GI doctor to come. When I saw the GI doctor at 430pm Sunday, he was amazing! The first thing he said to me was something along the lines of, you don't look like someone that should be here. He discharged me because he knew I didn't have insurance, and I could do everything as an out patient. Then the female doctor came in after and told my husband that that's what she thought too, she didn't know why they admitted me either. If you ever have a GI upset I highly recommend Dr. Gilbreath! So for the time I was in the hospital, my bills have accumulated to 23,125.56 but they discounted 6,937.67, so my final bill from the hospital is 16,187.89 with 2 other bills for emergency Dept visit of 1,239.00 and 792.00. I am a server that just lost my benefits after 10 years due to a slow season. I'm not trying to get away without paying anything. I've already paid 5,500 out of pocket. I wanted to get on a reasonable payment plan and maybe a better discount on my bill to make it a little more manageable. The best they could offer is 444 a month for 36 months. To me that's not reasonable for my situation. I feel like I'm getting double charged and when I call to get help, no can really help me or wants to help me. For one of the bills I called to see about getting a discount and they told me that they only offer a discount if I paid them the day I was discharged. NO ONE ever discussed billing to me. They just told me to go down the elevator and it would bring me straight to the parking lot. I even asked if I had to check out at a desk and the nurse told me, no. I'm just naive and I don't know anything about health care. Hopefully if you go to this hospital you have insurance and won't have to go through what I'm going through right now. It's awful and I wouldn't wish this on anyone. One of the billing ladies told me she didnt even know who I could call to dispute some of the changes. Another person told me, they just want their money as fast as they can get it. I think the other doctors would of kept me there for a week so they could get more money that I don't have. I am grateful for Dr gilbreath who acknowledged my situation and knew I was too well to be in the hospital, especially without insurance! Just to get an idea of their pricing, a CT scan of my abdomen/pelvis without cm is 5,858.88 for the hostpital and 257.88 to radiology.

My son and I contracted food poisoning while vacationing at Hilton Head 2 weeks ago and ended up in the ER at Hilton Head Hospital. The registration receptionist was very kind and I was taken back to a room right away. The doctor, Patrick Jordan MD, was very kind and very wise and I felt safe in his care!! ❤️ My nurse, Scott, was amazing!! He took such good care of me!! ❤️ That ER saved my life, because I was severely dehydrated, enough so, to develop metabolic lactic acidosis, which can be life threatening. Most of my blood work and vitals were not normal when I arrived and I received IV fluids for 7 hours, which resulted in all of my lab work returning to normal. We had a good experience regarding the care we received at the Emergency Room. God bless them!! Susan Marie Beckworth ➕

I was in Labor & Delivery over at Hilton Head Hospital Sept 6 2018, I had drove all the way from Guyton, GA while having contractions. Once I arrived I was sent to labor and delivery and my contractions suddenly stop. My Obgyn came in to check and my water sack was partially hanging out . My OB knew I drove from Ga sao she offered to break my water and of course I agreed. I had a healthy baby boy that evening! My stay at HHHospital was a relaxing, calm and enjoyable atmosphere. The nurses was caring, compassionate, understanding, friendly & kind. The staff went out of their way to make sure my stay was a comfortable and enjoyable one . They constantly checked in on my son & I to make sure we didn't need anything. I would highly recommend Hilton Head Hospital Labor and Delivery Unit as well as Advanced Women's Specialist for your OBGYN needs!

I recently underwent a very delicate procedure in the SDS. As a patient, I was treated with respect, was kept extremely informed of all the details around my surgery, was asked my name and DOB countless times and was kept comfortable and safe the entire visit. The nursing staff and my doctors continually communicated with me in regards to all procedures, what to expect and were patient with the questions I had. By the time I went into the OR, I felt like these folks knew me and my health history personally and I had no qualms about being put to sleep at their hands. Discharge instructions were very well written and I referred to them several times after I got home. It was safe, standardized but individualized and felt highly reliable. I thank you for my excellent, safe and private experience. I would recommend the Hilton Head Hospital to anyone who asks.

I was stung by a stingray, so I was taken to the hospital. We had to stop because I started to hyperventilate, and I started to lose control of my body. An ambulance pulled up and helped us, and took us to the ER. I had nothing but pleasant experiences with the staff of Hilton Head Hospital; all the workers were very nice, they laughed, and they would help in any way they could. Not only the staff there but even the ambulance crew was great! We were in and out in 3 hours; that's great considering most places would take forever. Granted we did arrive in an ambulance we got help faster, but to say the least the Hilton Head Hospital staff and experience was great.

Easter Sunday 7:00am came in to ED...it wasn’t busy ..my husband & I were standing at the registration desk a women who was sitting at least 25 ft away, looked up and said can I help you? I Said I liked to be seen. She looked down at her computer a minute then yelled Name? My husband & I looked at each other like really we’re going to stand here and yell all my information back & forth .. and we did .. so much for the privacy laws. After being treated in ER they decided to keep me overnight. Before I got a room the same women I had to yell all my information to at registration appeared with clip board in hand and proceeded to have me sign all the documents for payment and then said your deductible is $1606.00 how would you like to pay this today!!!!! My purse was fortunately beside me so I pulled out CC. WTH ...I have NEVER experienced this in any hospital ever. Is this standard procedure for HHH? What a disappointment I’ve been coming to this island for almost 20 years and to have such an awful experience I’m at a loss for words. They sent me home way to early .. I continued to have problems and ended up calling my Dr from home to get relief as Easter was the start of my 4 week vacation. I have never seen such an unprofessional hospital in my life. I will at all expense go off the Island to get medical help in the future.

Wish I could give it a lower rating... While on vacation in Hilton Head in late 2012, my wife and I were in an auto accident and got taken to the ER. I only had a few bruises but she had a broken sternum and a cut on her leg. Despite a full body scan, they missed the broken sternum and said there was no reason to admit her to the hospital. With our van totaled in the accident and a second floor condo we were staying in, they were gonna put us out on the street. Once they found that she could not get off her gurney, they relented and got her admitted to Savannah Memorial Hospital. She had to be taken there at 2:00 am Monday morning via private ambulance. She spent 2 hours in the trauma center at Savannah and was admitted to the hospital for two more days. She got excellent care there. A month later we found that Hilton Head had billed her regular insurance for more than ten-thousand dollars and hadn't found anything wrong with her except for some bruising and a cut on her leg that they simply put a bandage onto. The bill from Savannah was more than two-thousand dollars less than Hilton Head Hospital. If you are sick or in an accident, unless it's a matter of life or death, go somewhere else even if you have to drive or be driven to another city.

I woke up with a vision problem. I was afraid I was having a stroke. I went to Hilton Head Hospital. I told the admitting lady. She had a RN meet me immediately. Kevin got the ball moving. Within 20 minutes, I had a brain scan, blood work, and an IV port put in if necessary. My doctor was awesome. Dr. NICK MARANINO put me completely at ease. I was in and out in 2 hours. Fortunately, my situation proved to not be serious. I can not say enough nice things about my event. From the greeters, admitting, nurses, volunteers, radiology tech, and doctor--all get an A+from this retired teacher. I did miss my tee time!

This hospital gets a bad rap. My husband was treated with care, concern and excellent medical advice after having to drive himself to the emergency room and ultimately be admitted while I was out of town. Dr. Luis Bell, Dr. Sister and Dr. Susan were on task and shared information with us effectively. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Donna, Christie, Natalie and his first nurse who I did not get to meet. Everyone and all of our care was very good. If there is a problem it is because they are understaffed in every area. If Hilton Head is "greying" then shouldn't we all do our part to improve the hospital and medical services in our town?

I'm an independent contractor/merchandiser and was working out of town and was deathly sick with mono. Very friendly. They took great care of me.

I need to go here to get my blood drawn and receive the results STAT as none of the LabCorps around here do STAT. The volunteers and front desk are very nice but that is the last nice thing I can say. I usually wait an hour to an hour and a half no matter what time I come in. Yes even if I am the first one:( Once when I thought we were finished they had to call me back because they didn't get enough blood to run the test. Also, One of the patients before me was an infant and the poor thing had the heal squeezed for 45 minutes to get all the blood. Either the lady drawing the blood was incompetent or the poor kid had to have a lot of testing.

This place is absolutely terrible. Doc didn't even know the term for something I had and took an hour to do an initial follow up. Place is a joke
