Bibles and opulence abound here. No wonder medical costs so much money. This is the Taj Mahal of medical buildings. A total over budget waste of money. I can't tell if it's a hospital or a mega church.

Brandie Mccuen

They are very friendly and helpful.

This is a good spot for the hospital in the area and they are willing to take care of your medical needs. I have friends who work at this establishment that enjoy their job. The staff always trys to accommodate all people and provide the best service possible.

It doesn't matter how many well-intentioned employees you have, if you let a jerk answer the phone, that's your first impression. I found out upon arrival late this morning there is no emergency room. I called from my car to ask where to go. Her flippant, unhelpful response made me think I should be at St. Francis Hospital. I was calm and courteous and didn't need that in an emergency.

Patewood Hospital is in the top 20 joint replacement facilities in the USA. That's amazing right here from our home town. This is a perfect model on every level how every hospital should be.

CMC Maternity Center in Charlotte/Pineville was a better experience 4 yrs ago compared to birth of our current newborn at Patewood (soon to be called Prisma - part of Palmetto health care). If you're reading this before taking the hospital tour, BE SURE to bring this stuff up during the tour if you want change! The nurses during recovery didn’t give us specific times when they will return. Unlike at CMC the staff from different departments come at sporadic times, all unannounced or give incredibly rough approximations, usually no heads up so we can plan rests, feedings, showers, etc (I'm referring to: hearing test, birth certificate lady, house keeping, circumcision, nurses coming in JUST to say they're switching nurses, etc). It felt like every hour someone else would come in, unannounced. Why can't they group people to come in within a specific time range? My wife has had 4 hours sleep in the past 54 hours, whereas she could have had about 14 if they coordinated and had consideration. I gave this feedback to one of the final exam nurses and she, as expected, brushed it off to us being tired an cranky and offered to take our baby to the nursery so we could get some rest before leaving (that seems to be their crutch to justify their ho-hum attitude about inconsiderate nurse visits). This seems to me to be a top-down issue from management and culture problem. Again, we didn't have these problems at 2 other hospitals. One STUDENT comes in, unaccompanied by a dr, to ask dads to leave to question mom, and do a repeat exam on the baby. The epidural didn't work unlike my wife's first two pregnancies; she literally felt everything. Just after the epidural anesthesiologist left, I had to FRANTICALLY GO GET a nurse because my wife’s blood pressure was dropping so low she was getting tunnel vision, couldn't breath and was about to pass out, TWICE. If I didn't GO GET a nurse to drop the medicine, something bad could have happened. Her signals should have been continuously monitored by staff in the other room and the staff should be QUICK to respond instead of myself (what happens to single moms with no family in the room?). Both times it took over a minute for a nurse to show up. (Same thing later when we thought our baby was choking on burped up amniotic fluid.) That's a long time to wait when you think a loved one is about to die. The anesthesiologist said he's been here 25 yrs. He didn't say a word to my wife the whole time, like he didn't care. He must be good to be employed that long, but he botched this one. This facility looks nice, but there were some corners cut. At CMC you stay in the room you give birth in which is GREAT. But here at Patewood they have a limited number of birthing rooms and then after birth they wheel you to a much smaller room for the rest of your stay, which is nerve racking always worrying if you're going to trip on something while carrying your baby because of lack of sleep and awareness. The beds for dads are uncomfortable futon type couches instead of decent Murphy beds like at CMC. There is no soft Kleenex to wipe up baby spit up off our baby, and we're not going to use the rough paper towels in the bathroom, you have to use the 3 baby blankets provided. Our room has been cold the past 24 hours, making our hands cold, and they haven't used heated exam tables which they just have sitting UNUSED in the birthing rooms, so our baby is unnecessarily crying a lot. More stress and less sleep for mom. A baby wipe warmer would be nice. The cafe is subpar; stale pastries, basic food, long wait at the single man grill, sometimes the check out lady isn't there which is frustrating if your wife wants something immediately. In case your baby does go to the nursery there's no large window to look into the nursery like normal hospitals, only a slim door window. The Dr and nurses in the room for the actual birth were fantastic! Great cleanliness of the entire hospital. Good security (except at times the secretary at the 4th flr door is either on the phone or not there, making you have to wait to get back in).

Nice place, food good better then most hospitals.

The staff at the Patewood facility is exceptional. Being a new building, I suppose it's easier to keep things clean and appealing, but it seems to me that medical, operational, and maintenance staff are committed to the patients and their families.

Forgot my daughter’s meal. Would not control her surgical pain with PRN meds ordered on her MAR. Does not see patients/parents as equal partners in healthcare decisions and needs. Said NO when I offered to change her saturated dressing (I’m a BSN RN with LTACH wound care experience). Not coming back here again. Manager and some nurses very nice but they have too many rigid, old school staff.

My husband had surgery here. He had excellent care and every member of the staff went above and beyond to be helpful. Especially Joe from security.

The staff are very friendly, excellent surgeons, and has been ranked nationally for expertise in joint replacement. The facility is clean and food much better than typical hospital food. No emergency room but excellent place for elective surgical procedures.

My husband had two out of three surgeries here. Even though it wasn't fun for him, it was a great experience for our family. The staff was courteous and informative. The cafeteria is surprisingly good. All the rooms were super comfortable. There was nothing wrong at Greenville Memorial, but we would always choose Patewood if we have a choice!

Absolutely WONDERFUL experience delivering our baby here! Thank you to my two amazing RN's Ashley and Gabrielle for making me feel like a rock star and taking care of me and the baby so well. Thank you Dr. Moore for making us feel so special as you waited to get off duty for the baby to arrive! Your laughter was contagious! The building and rooms were extremely clean and well maintained, everyone from the front desk to check out made our experience a delight

Unprofessional and Faulty Staff Communication When my wife and I had our first baby at Patewood, we had one of the worst/stressful experiences possible. This was not due to health complications the delivery was quick and our baby was heathy. The problems were caused by the staff not communicating to us or each other. My wife repeatedly told the nurses that our baby didn't seem like she was getting enough food. The staff brushed this off for a whole day and the next morning our baby was weighed and she had lost 8% of her original body weight. My wife continued to to state that our baby was always hungry and wanted to feed. The nurses said "She is just using you as a pacifier. Just give her you finger with a glove on it." the next morning (the morning we were to be discharge) our baby was weighed again and she had lost 10% of her body weight. We were then told that 10% weight loss was the cut off limit and they would not let us go home... The staff then made my wife feel like she was at fault and had her meet with lactation specialist and ran tests on our baby girl and made my wife use a breast pump for hours. Later that evening they finally offered us some formula for our baby almost three days after she was born. Our baby gained back 3% of her weight over night and the next afternoon they let us go home after more tests and check ups. Nothing was wrong with our baby she has been healthy and continues to grow every day :) and my wife's milk came in the same afternoon after getting home! This could and should have been easily prevented if the staff of nurses had listened to my wife's concerns. This was our first baby and we were trusting the staff's advice to help us as we adjusted to our new life with our baby girl. We were miss lead. We are very unsatisfied with the service we received, it caused my wife and baby days of discomfort and not to mention a full extra day of bills from the hospital and more tests. I tried to communicate this situation to the hospital and and after 4.5 months of talking to customer service I finally hear back that they will do nothing to help or try to own up to the mistake they had made. I don't want to point fingers I just hope someone will read our story and it will prevent a similar situation from happening. Thanks for reading!
