Jessica, Lindsey, & Mary Ann are the nicest ladies I have ever met! They made sure I felt comfortable and took great care of me. These three ladies gave me the best hospital service I have ever gotten. You are lucky to have them three

A very nice hospital love being a volunteer there

Shame on Mon-Vale HealthPLEX Imaging!!! Shame on Mon-Valley Hospital Patient Rep.!! And most assuredly, Shame on the INTERPRETING RADIOLOGIST - a finding?, REALLY ? That requires additional mammogram views? THEN ONE IS PREVENTED FROM SEEING THE RADIOLOGIST, One diagnosed with CANCER in 2013!!! Then an Ultrasound, only to be told an MRI is required. That was done at McKessport and showed NOTHING! Mon-Valley Billing does have the record though for getting one's bill to them, then they immediately start calling. In addition to the "false positives' that another reviewer noted, add "false finding'' and the infamous "observation" - where one is not admitted and the insurance does not pay, so lucky you gets a bill - to the SCAMS in so-called Healthcare today.

Best hospital I've ever seen. Caring & kind staff & great doctors make for a faster recovery. I would't go anywhere else!

Jason Fickes

Pretty much uneducated and rude staff...

Because there aren't other hospitals to choose from, I've been stuck at this one a few times. I have non-diabetic hypoglycemia, extremely high blood pressure, dual kidney failure, and other issues. I let them know this when I arrived via ambulance. The nurse seemed to care and take notes, but after being there for 18 hours I still hadn't taken my medications or given any food or drinks, which made me collapse while trying to use the restroom and blacked out again. This is not something that has happened only once. I'm only glad I learned to sneak in my own medicines and hard candies just to counteract their nearly total neglect. Other times I've been there they didn't treat me for anything or even do a single test, even with my blood pressure at 200/110, and sent me home. I have no vehicle or family, so the only transport I have is Freedom Transit or the hospital's own service, which they really hate allowing anyone to use, even if you arrived against your own will.

All the doctor's are in it for the money and the nurses don't know what to do

Always good. MVH is thorough and forthright. I have had experiences with Pittsburgh hospitals that were of lesser value. If, you think you can do better, by all means, go downtown.......you won't experience the same level of care and compassion, not to mention sanitation and safety. I've been there, I know. I prefer to stay in the Valley. I am very happy with the care I receive at Mon Valley, Some of the finest doctors have overseen my care and saved my life and I am forever grateful,. It's up to you to be treated like a number or a person. Choose wisely. Thank you, MVH!

I was admitted to the hospital after I had a severe asthma attack my heart rate was really high and I couldn't breath. They refused to give me anything to help the cough which was causing me to vomit in my oxygen mask. I couldn't sleep and they told me I had to wait 12 hours before I was allowed anything not even Tylenol. I do not recommend this place to anyone. There's a reason they are nicknamed deathvalley. The food is horrible the staff is horrible they ask what they can do to make you feel better and you tell them then they say no you can't have that for 12 hours. I took the cough meds 5 hours ago what cough medicine says you can't take for 17 hours.

The staff in the Behavioral Health Unit were wonderful - very caring and encouraging.

They blame the patients for their wrong doing. The doctor yelled at my grandmother and mother for not supplying them with the equipment my grandmother needed to get better. Very unprofessional!!!!

Went to the er with chest pains by ambulance directly from my pcp. Was admitted, kept under observation, and discharged while the symptoms NEVER went away. It's now a week later, the pain has spread to my neck near the carotid artery. The staff doctors do not listen, nor do they seem to care. I've been told, even by my insurance company, to go back. I will not. Why should I go somewhere that doesn't solve a single problem? If I were well enough I would go to Pittsburgh but, I'm currently in a state of complete confusion and do not feel well enough to get there. The staff doctors should be ashamed to call themselves doctors.

Went to the ER when I was having pressure on my left side and elevated blood pressure. I was taken back to a room that they still cleaning. I got in the room and sat on the bed for 20 minutes and registration finally came sat another 20 minutes and still no nurse. I had a headache and still nobody came. Got up and went home such poor service.

Just tried to hand carry a sample to the lab from my doctor to speed the process. (Not a drug test) Would'nt tell me where lab was and that I had to register before anything. (Meaning they could generate a bill) Told them again just a drop off but same answer. They are going to force me to use different doctors that aren't affiliated with this hospital. A little more attention to patient needs instead of the money.(All my information was attached to the sample). Got a 1 because there is no 0

The wonderful people at Mon Valley Hospital saved my Mom, my Dad, my husband and me on many occasions. Almost everyone is pleasant and everyone is most competent. They are flexible and strive for the best results after providing several alternatives.

On August 2, 2018 while traveling I was admitted to the hospital after an ER visit. I have nothing but respect for the hospital staff--housekeeping through nurses and physicians--who were very professional and caring. My stay was above average in all respects (I've been unfortunate enough to be treated in enough hospitals to know), and for the size hospital MVH is the services provided were handled professionally and with compassion.

Waited in the ER four and a half hours for a tetanus shot and when I was finally visited by the nurse she gave me a prescription for antibiotics and tried to send me on my way. I asked her if I was going to get the tetanus shot and she said she had missed that on my papers so that took another 20 minutes to get the shot. Will never be visiting this hospital ER again.

I'm visiting from deep south Georgia and suffered with severe back problems for 3 months. I visited a hospital twice and a orthopedic surgeon twice with no diagnosis. Mon Valley diagnosed me with a disc infection within 2 hours of walking through the door. Friendly knowledgeable nurses/doctors. Cane on a early Monday morning NO WAIT!

I am currently sitting here in the emergency room for my fiancé`s grandfather which is a World War 2 veteran. I am a veteran myself and come from a very proud veteran family. As i sit here in the emergency room hallway i over hear a gentleman by the Jason Kirby claiming to be prior to service recruiter bad mouth his position of brainwashing new recruits while he was in time of service and bragging about how easy it is to recruit of young men and women trying to make a very challenging and sacrificing life decision to fight for his freedom, comparing it to being a car salesman. How its so easy to get these young easily influenced children for 7 reasons. Maybe if your in here you could ask him these reasons. Cause i have an eighth and i had no idea i would have to go through what i had to being a paratrooper in the 82nd airborne division. It was extremely challenging and I still to this day find it hard to readjust to the civilian life when i have to hear someone like Jason Kirby speak in such a manner. Her grandfather thankfully heard none of this as he is 97 as of this year and has a very keen memory. Maybe Jason Kirby if he is prior to service should remember the reasons he was supposedly brainwashed and supposed to uphold the ARMY VALUES even after his supposed time of service. This just saddens me all the way around that he will continue to approach civilians in such a manner and thank others when he is thanked for his service. Goodnight everyone and pray for Jason Kirby to look at his actions.

Great service. Extremely friendly staff & quick services. I was checked in & had an X-ray in under 30 minutes. Greatly appreciated!

I was admitted with the Flu....then diagnosed with pneumonia...then they stressed my heart after in formed them I had hypertension. Then they gave me sodium and suffer I.V.'s never allowed me to take my blood pressure meds. The "Physican" who care is was under at the time during my visit said, " This patient is not going to bottom out on me, send his blood pressure up". I then called my primary Physician and informed him of what was going on. And he tried calling the hospital and the temporary doctor who's care I was under. And my primary Physician got no response what so ever. Then the hospital diagnosed me with a bunch of sicknesses that my Primary Physician never diagnosed me with. The hospital's diagnosis went to my job...and I lost my job due to bad health. Because of the hospital's wrong diagnosis. The nursing staff is good. But them doctor's just coming out of college/ medical school/ PENN STATE UNVIVERSITY...NEEDS TO STOP MISDIAGNOSISING PATIENCE AND ENDING THEIR WORK CARRIER.....I mwould not recommend anyone to use this hospital.

They try to charge you and your insurance for services that you didn't receive and for doctors you never seen or heard of and when you call them out on it they blow you off and tell you investigating it and then try and send you another bill

This review is for the operators who answer the phones only. The ppl within have always been very kind except once. I had a same day surgery done on June 20, 2016 by Dr. Bacheloni. Everyone involved was wonderful and surgery so far is great. It is now the 24 and I am doing well. But the ppl who answer the phones at the hospital are rude and disgusting. They hang up on you and are not helpful at all. It is fine if you can't find out who called me four times but you don't have to have a negative tone and hang up on me. And when I finally got a name from my voicemail I called back and said "may I please speak to Carol" operator says (in a very sarcastic voice like I am stupid) " um Carol who", I say "I am not sure she only said Carol on my voicemail", and operator says (again in sarcastic voice) "I am sure if it is important she will call you back" and hung up. Mind you this same operator had previously hung up on me right before that when I called and said "hi I just had 2 missed calls from you guys and am calling back" and she said, "we don't know who called you and have no way to find out" click. So rude. You can't be that busy you can't say have a nice day bye.

My son is away at college and an ambulance brought him to the hospital to get treated. They said it was a non emergency and had him sign himself out of the hospital, with no treatment whatsoever except an antibiotic. I called the hospital to talk to the doctor and she yelled, screamed, hollered and didn't allow me to speak. She asked me if I was a doctor and then rudely hung up in my face. My son 19 years old and is 9 1/2 hours from home with no family in the area. I was just a concerned Mom trying to find out what was going on. Having good health insurance didn't matter in this case. The worst treatment ever received from a supposed professional that took an oath to care for people in need. I wouldn't recommend this hospital to anyone even if it was the last one on earth!! Maybe she felt some type of way because he was with his girlfriend and they're an interracial couple. Get some better staff that have a good bedside manners and know how to respect individual's. Occurred November 11,2016 @ 4:25 on CST Sincerely, Ida Myrick Some DR's need to do better!!

The ER is terrible. Multiple times I have went there and have been misdiagnosed. Today a family member went there with an obvious growth in their neck and it was swollen at the bottom, they diagnosed it simply as "neck pain". The visit was a waste of time and money because we are still unsure of what the cause of this growth is.

Not too bad treatment i feel bad when their under staffed cause it's the patient who suffers and i was given the best care that they can give i can't expect the impossible we are all capable of mistakes , the hospital rooms and ER rooms should be more warmer, i feel each patient should have their own assistant if they need to have one, I think they need to be more skills for nurses to handle mentally ill patients , i suffer from mental illnesses and they never listen when i tell them my heart rate is high from being over anxious just calm me down and so the heart rate will come down. Plus I've been depressed in my hospital room and the TV is the only thing that keeps me with smiling than crying. But i can't complain Mon Valley Hospital does their best to help patients , you will never get 100 % treatment from any hospital.

Mon Valley Health Plex physical rehab is a joke and the female employee's treat you like one. They sit gossiping and giggling behind the front desk all the time, playing on their phones and computers, 97% of the time oblivious of anyone in the waiting room. The first appointment, I filled out the paper work exactly how she described, I even wrote on the top of the page so I would not forget! The grey haired lady says, she filled this out wrong, she didn't listen to anything I said, to the other women and then proceeded to argue with me when I showed her I even wrote what she repeated to me carefully 3 times, on the paper. She didn't want to hear it! I went into therapy while they told my family to go to imaging to wait for me, they explained to them that imaging has a TV there. I came out from my appointment looking for my family and I searched the parking lot, health plex hallways, peaking in rooms, asking people if they seen such described persons, the gym, finally I found them Idk how long after! I cried when I found them, I was panicked! They asked me didn't the lady with red hair tell you we was here, we asked her to, with which I replied angerly, Absolutely not! During the end of my appointment, the therapist will have me lie on the table for heat and massage, facing up to the light above me. I have light sensitivity so they shut out the lights and prop open the door any time I use the table. When the lady comes to end my session, without a word or knock she flicks the light and I feel like I've been stabbed in the eye's instantly! This week they had me scheduled for 3 days this week, I show up, they argue my appointment wasn't scheduled that day. I show them the print out THEY gave me with my appointments, no apologee, they ask me to reschedule, they are booked for the whole week so I'm told if I want an appointment this week, I'll have to call everyday to see if anyone cancels. I was in a car accident. I don't have time for their games. They play with the equipment and screw off way too much, in front of patients DURING their appointments! Get it together ladies and show some respect to your patients. They are people with their own problems, probably one of the reasons they come to you in the first place! The male therapist are kind and informative but these lady's need to get it together!!

They offer the best care available and the cancer center has a cutting edge radiation machine that is the best in the tri-state area. The nurses and other staff are always very compassionate and genuine. If admitted the food is also amazing for hospital food. I would never go anywhere else. It is a shame people overlook this lil gem we have right in our backyard. I will say Er visits not always the best. The one Dr thinks everyone is a drug seeker. Sent my husband home and said was just inflammation and to take Aleve. Husband fell and was back in the Er 2 days later diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. His pain was a completely destroyed pelvic bone from a 5 cm mass. Can't judge this hospital based on one bad doctor, and if we didn't have an opioid epidemic things would be so different. People will do or say anything to get drugs so it makes it hard for people who really need pain meds to get the help they need.

Seems to be a theme here, but I'll echo what others have said. There were some very rude staff people that we dealt with last night when we took our 3 year old son to the ER for xrays. The nurse that initially saw us and the xray tech acted like we were interrupting them and were in a big rush to be done with us. They yelled at my son because he wouldn't hold still (ummm, He's 3!) and were obviously annoyed and exasperated with him. However, the older lady who did the registration was sweet as could be. . .giving my son a coloring book and crayons and stickers and checking in on us periodically. The P.A. who saw us was outstanding. I'm just sorry that the rest of the experience was so horrible. I will not allow my son to be treated badly, so next time we will most likely go elsewhere. yea

Brian Lewis

The wait took way to long. The lobby kept being filled by more patients and none were taken back therefore making the in/out of the ER way too overcrowded. The woman I came in with could be dead by now. We are still waiting to this day... in less word, just go to jefferson.

My brother was admitted to the ER at about 1:30AM this morning after falling. He is Down’s Syndrome and was not cooperating so that they could get a CT Scan done, so they administered Ativan to calm him down. My 88 year-old mother stayed with him. They wanted to release him at 4:30AM, but my mother refused. She called me to go pick them up at 7AM since MVH was anxious to get him out of the room. When I arrived, my brother was in such an extremely deep sleep from the medication that our efforts to wake him up failed, so they had a guy come in and physically pull him up. When they put him in a wheelchair, he was still so out of it that he looked like a rag doll, with his limp body and head just falling over, so they put him in straps to keep him upright. When I saw this, I was completely appalled and disgusted that they would even consider releasing anyone in this condition! I even remarked that I couldn’t believe they were releasing him! Completely irresponsible behavior! Absolutely no compassion! I’m quite sure they would not want THEIR loved ones being treated in this manner. Completely inappropriate! I’m in my sixties and in a leg brace. Between my 88 year-old mother and myself, there was absolutely no way we were are able to get him from the car into the house, so they told us to call 911 for assistance. If we have to call 911 for assistance, you would think they would realize he was not ready to be released! My mother was extremely stressed by all of this. When we arrived home, we did have to call 911 to help us get him into the house. After sleeping for several hours at home, he tried to get up to use the bathroom, but was still so out of it that he was incoherent and fell again. I called the nurse to ask how long the meds would stay in his system and she was extremely rude. Time for a new hospital for us. I wish I had thought to take a video of his condition upon release so I could post it to YouTube. I intend to make a formal complaint with the hospital.

If I want to die this is the hospital that would do the best job for that. Went here to get a cat scan.. it took from 9:30 pm until 2:30am (5 hours!!!!!). This should have taken max until 11:30. No sense of urgency at all. Kind of defeats the purpose of EMERGENCY room. Also extremely rude staff from the moment we walked in and got attitude from the fat secretary with a mole the size of Jupiter on her face. The Asian doctor is rude as well, won’t let you get a word in/doesn’t listen. This place is only semi-okay if you’re dying.

I just recently went there during the middle of then night because I had a delayed severe allergic reaction to something I ate. Before we even got there, my fiance had figured out that I was showing signs of the beginning of anaphylaxis. My throat was closing, I had hives, I was itchy, I had stomach pain and other stomach "issues", and felt really dizzy. I had to hold onto my Fiance anytime we walked anywhere. They got me to a room instantly, but that's where the instant ended. For an hour before treating me they asked me about insurance, contacts, who the insurance was through, and my SS#. I get that they need this information but I could barely breathe and they weren't treating me for that, instead they were just asking me questions about insurances. I didn't get treated for almost an 1 1/2 hours of waiting and trying everything to breathe. The only reason I'm okay is because I took preemptive measures before we went to the ER. I had an inhaler and took that along with antihistamines that I have prescribed to me. So at least I could breathe a little better than when the allergic reaction started. Then when the doctor did finally see me I tried to explain what happened and he kept cutting me off and wouldn't let me actually tell him what was happening. He just answered "Well you're talking so your airways are fine" without looking at them. After he said that THEN he listened to my breathing and looked at my throat and tried to play it off as anxiety. I told him it wasn't and that I'm not an anxious person. I was actually really calm throughout the whole thing because I've had allergic reactions before and I grew up with Asthma, getting upset just makes it worse. Then he LITERALLY patted me on the back and said I was fine. Even though, I still could barely breathe. My prescribed antihistamines I took before leaving my house started to kick in before the doctor even saw me. Which is sad! I shouldn't have to worry about taking things before I go to the ER just to hopefully live. They gave me general medication and took blood, but when I asked what the blood work was for they shrugged there shoulders and said "I don't know, it's procedure". That ER IS A JOKE! Don't go there if you're life is at risk because you're not gonna get good help. And no, the ER wasn't busy at all when I went. We only ever saw one other patient there.

CT techs are the nasiest I've ever encountered. The hospital let's you lay there in severe pain. Done with this place

Years ago Mon valley was the worst. In recent years the service and treatment has improved greatly. They have the very best cancer unit, maybe best on the east coast.

Arrived at ER and was treated for a urinary tract infection that had gone systemic, then sent to the floor with an order for Dilaudid every four hours, as needed. Once on the floor, Dr. Violago presented herself, removed the order for Dilaudid and replaced it with Toradol. The chills and pain increased and I asked for the Dilaudid. That's when the nurses informed me of the Toradol. I took the Toradol, waited a while, then told the nurses the Toradol did nothing. I also asked for a heavy blanket of the sort used in ICU. I was told they would contact Dr. Violago, and that they didn't have a heavy ICU blanket. Dr. Violago could not be found at the hospital and did not answer her cell phone. I told the nurses to get my paperwork ready, that I'm leaving. So, I left and arrived at another hospital with a temperature of 101.5. This is the same Mon Valley Hospital where, several years prior, I presented at the ER with chest pains. Once heart was ruled-out I was admitted and a doctor I could barely understand told me they were going to do x-rays or MRI of my back, which I told them had occasionally bothered me. I refused, removed the heart monitor, and walked out to the nurses' station. The telemetry unit didn't even know I had removed the monitor. I returned to the room and related to my roommate, who indeed had a heart attack earlier, what had just transpired. He said, "Well, that makes me feel real good."

My mother has been a patient twice in the last month. There is a lack of concern by the staff including the physicians, social worker and the patient representative. They do not treat elderly patients with kindness or compassion, but want them out as soon as possible. She was admitted through ED and discharged next day, but no improvement in her condition. Rudeness and apathy seem to be the new core values for this hospital.

chris wunderly

This place should be closed, the ER is a complete joke, for instance why can you go to med express and be seen in 20 to 30 min with less staff and a full waiting room but here you will definitely wait 5 to 10 hours just to be given a prescription or sent to another hospital, dont get me wrong some of the nurses and employees are very caring and nice but whoever is behind the scenes making this poor care is a heartless POS, there is no excuse, being treated like your time is of no importance but charging insurance thousands of dollars, pathetic is all i can say about this place, hopefully something changes soon, its pretty much like saying come sit here all day, then give you treatment like a shot or a few stitches which takes maybe 5-10 minutes of there precious lazy time and charge insurance a ridiculous amount, key word INSURANCE, if people do not start complaining more it will just continue to get worse, remember your paying them greedy lazy pathetic people your hard earned money and treated like garbage, and by no means am I talking about the staff, I am talking about the doctors and the people that own and run this cold dark mid evil ran institution.

Very horrible!! Waited for 6 hours for them to tell me that they didn't know what was wrong. I'm a diabetic that has been vomitting for two days with all the signs of a gallbladder attack. They gave me insulin, brought my sugar down to 70 and sent me home! all though some staff were very nice and caring while others acted like they were just there for a paycheck and mind you I didn't even see a doctor, was seen by a "PAC".

Al Henze

This place is full of incompetent people. how do you loose a sample dropped off for testing and say you were never there. unreal!

Kayla Young

Took my boyfriends mother in today due to pain and not being able to feel her fingers after having Elbow surgery yesterday. The staff was very DISRESPECTFUL and RUDE! They laughed at her, made snarky remarks, and kept smirking the entire time. I sat in the room with her until other family members showed. A very rude attendant tried kicking her husband out because they have a policy of only two in the room with the patient. We weren't told this when they sent us ALL back to the room. You'd think someone could count us three and let us know only two allowed. They did NOT! She threatened to call security because he wouldn't leave, so I left instead. They really need to train their staff A LOT more or need to hire new staff members in general. Will NOT be returning with any family members.

Alex Fischer

Every time we come here for a test, we get a false positive and have to re-take it. Feels like a money making scheme. Even today, wife is in for blood work and the tech called asking how to do the test.

Laura Williams

Treated great by staff. Dr's were quick with testing. Food was good!

Ally S

The psych unit sucks, but the Same Day surgery department is great. They treated us with respect, and the doctor who gave my husband his vasectomy was very thorough, and gave him a lot of info. The nurses in the unit were mostly cheerful and kind. A wonderful experience (as wonderful as one can possibly have in a hospital). The ER is good, too, although it can be a while before you actually see a doctor, but the nurses and phlebotomists are really friendly in that department. I loved the women in the ICU. They kept me very informed as to the progress of my condition (pulmonary embolism).

Worst experience of my entire life and I have never been treated so poorly by any type of staff let alone one with my life in their hands. Do not recommend.

I was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at Mon Valley Hospital in June 2018 and have been a patient there ever since. The care and compassion of everyone that I have dealt with has been top notch and 2nd to none. One of my nurses, Alaina K., on the 6th floor here at Mon Valley, she was my rock before, during, and after getting the news about my diagnosis. She gave me nothing but the utmost respect, care and compassion that anyone could want when receiving such life altering news. Not to exclude all the other nurses that were absolutely caring, compassionate, and wonderful dealing with me for a whole week while i was given all my testing to try to figure me out. Even the interns they had assisting their nurses were absolutely awesome. Every department I went thru during my stay, such as, x-ray, mri, cat scans, biopsy, everyone was absolutely awesome. The Cancer Center here at Mon Valley Hospital, I can't type enough words to express my gratitude towards how caring and compassionate and knowledgeable and wonderful everyone has been with me and my family in both the Radiation and Oncology Departments. Dr. Isaac and his team in the Radiation Department including Lori, Debbie, the (2)Chris' and way too many other names to type, but all have treated me as they would their own family or friends. Dr. Tonkonow and his Oncology Team including Loretta, Jane, Jessica, again the list is endless of wonderful, knowledgeable, compassionate, people that he has on his staff as well. I'm sure they don't get to hear it enough, and I hope they read this and know they have people out there that they have either treated or they are still currently treating, like myself, that do appreciate how truly awesome they are. And I can tell you from previous bad experiences at other hospitals and the poor quality of care that I have received at these places, I'm trusting my life as it goes forward with these wonderful people at Mon Valley Hospital. So hopefully these kind, wonderful, folks that work there get to see this review because they truly deserve the recognition for giving their patients such great care. And I am also hopeful this helps someone in making a decision where to go to receive the best care for whatever it is they are going through. And by the way, if you are staying for awhile at this hospital, their food is excellent. Kudos to the Hospital's Dietary Department and thanks again to everyone at Mon Valley Hospital that has had a hand in helping me fight my battle with cancer.
