Great doctor and nurses who really care.

Slow workers. Came in at 10:45pm and am still her. Havent gotten out and havent been seen. Highly recommend Silverton or Stayton hospital as they are quicker. People here dont care they want to get you in and keep you for hours on end then get seen or leave due to not being seen. I hate coming to this Emergency Room!

Everyone we interacted with (aside from the worst, most horrific, detrimental doctor) was truly exceptional! We especially could not be more grateful than we truly are for our nurse Ashley! Not only caring and respectful, she listened and encouraged our healing. She deserves the best recognition possible from her company! Thank you for tending to my sweet baby girl tonight by providing a "finger cozy," a finger bath, and creating a safe and caring atmosphere! You are truly the reason why health care is supposed to exist!

I was here on 6/14/2019 and I went in for a few symptoms and when I was asked about drugs and alcohol I denied using both and he looked at me and said even marijuana I said yes even no usage of marijuana and he rolled his eyes. Terrible beside manner. Will not suggest going here the Doctor was Dr. Vignolo. They also ran unnecessary testing and neglected testing needed.

Worst emergency room ever. Or rather I should say..never have room for you. I have been there 3 times and everytime I have been put in the hallway. Yes no beds. After minimum stay in hallway of 6+ hours..rude nurses..doctors you never see and no help fir your pain. God forbid if they actually have to admit you. They hate that! I'd rather die at home than go to Salem emergency room!

Would be a zero star if I could. I took my dad (83) into the emergency room on 10/6/2019 we arrived about 9;00 pm. My dad was seen and then the nurse asked my mom if she was driving. My mom (79) said no our son brought us. The nurse told her that they were going to put a shirt on my dad and get a wheelchair and have me move the car to the front. I did. Then while waiting for them to bring my dad out "Manning " the security guy pulled up and said you cant park here, I told him i was instructed to bring the car around and he said you need to move. I told him the nurses told me to bring the car up because my dad was getting released. "Manning" raised his voice and said whose in charge? Whose in charge? I told him apparently not him. "Manning" told me he was going to drive around the loop and if I was still there when he got back he would write a ticket. I said I am not moving so he went in and got his supervisor and during this time of the chief talking to me my mom was at the front counter trying to find out what was going on. Manning thought he would be more of a bully and go stand right next to her and rub and bump into her while she was finding out what was going on. The chief told me told me the conversation was over when I told him this was harassment. I moved the car then was told once again bye the er staff to go get the car. I said I am not moving until I see my dad. This harassment, bullying and physical assault is NOT acceptable and will not be tolerated.

we waited over 4 hours and decided to go elsewhere, we decided to go to another hospital where they took us in right away. Every time I asked when my husband would be seen it kept getting pushed back by 2 hours

Worst experience ever. I have to wonder if the ED is ran by the same administration that runs the rest of the hospital??? They seem to have completely different values. The surgery center, Radiology and Cancer unit, for example, are staffed by extremly kind and caring people. But the ER is so completely mismanaged I find it surprising they are allowed to remain open to see patients. I will not return with any of my precious family's health emergencies. These people should be reminded that an emergency is just that. And if they can only provide urgent care at best, rename your facility so people who need emergent care can look elsewhere to find it. Shame on you, Salem Hospital emergency room.

Its true, the wait times here can range from 2-5 hours before seeing a doctor. The staff being nice is a hit and miss. You will get nice, competent nurses before you ever get a doctor who doesn't just come in and diagnose with whatever is most common. Its a little insane. I have unfortunately been here WAY to many times this year (7 times to be exact). Between my cardiac scare, my sons ambulance ride in from being run over, to my daughters near fainting issue.....this hospital ER is like most ERs, busy!!! The one thing they seriously need to work on is the competency of the doctors!! They are way to fast to just say you have whatever is most common at the moment or, you get no answer at all. The discharge papers never seem to reflect the reason you came in. When you do get a good doctor (twice this has happened this year), they seem to vanish after that. I know they are on rotation but, its frustrating. Honestly the nurses are a hit and miss but, the ones in back seem to be much more empathetic than the admitting room attendies.... Even if you have to deal with crabby people, there is no excuse for rudeness. After all, that's the whole reason you went into the medical field.... Rite?! They are making an effort to better the service from what I have seen over this year. There are other options its true but, most of those are a hit and miss as well. If your transported by ambulance do to a incident of idiocy (thats what we call my son being run over)...or think your having a heart attack at 3am out of a dead sleep, this is the closest EMERGENCY care. If you need urgent care, then maybe urgent care would be a better option.

My daughter has RSV and is congested. I came to the ER today looking to get IV fluids as my daughter isnt eating her formula, or having wet diapers. I have been here since 12:30pm. Would not recommend this hospital. Go to OHSU or Stayton. All they are doing for my daughter is suctioning her nose out and having me trying to force feed her. Im not one happy momma!

Worst emergency room ever!!! If you can dont come here it takes hours and hours and hours to even be seen

I agree probably with all the one stars on here. My dad was in intense pain and we called our doctor. They told us to go to the ER. Guess what. We did and what did they do? Put us in a corner for three hours straight. They didn't do anything to help us at all.

Awful service with a smile : After something "poped" in my left knee monday afternoon I knew I need medical help ASAP. I made my way to Salem Health urgent care where they refused to even look at me and told me to go to emergency. I managed to get there with my wife'S help. Got cheded in quickly and told to wait in a waiting room full of people. 20 minutes later I was call to tslk to the triage clerk. She listened to my story, said she'd order xrays and sent me back to the packed waiting area. 20 minutes later I was called for vials which were taken quickly and sent back to a now packef waiting area. About another 20 mintes I was taken back to xray. Waited more, finally had xrsys taken and was left waiting 20+ minutes to get wheeled back to the waiting room again. 39 more minutes and someone came and took me with my wife to a triage room because as she said they were really busy. A friendly nurse listened to my story for the third time told me s doctor would come see me soon, and she disspperared. Waitef another 45 minutes with no word. Finally about 10pm a nurse practitioner who said my xrays were inconclusive and I probably had a bad sprain. he had another nurse put on some sort of velcro splint thing which does no good. Toldnme to take ibuptofin for pain and see my fsmily doctor. Of coursr my fsmily doctor is also a Sslem Health doctor. Got a follow-up call the next day to adk how I eas doing. I tild her "terrible, I still can`t walk on it"! Dhe said she`d make me an appointment with my primary care 8 fays out! I told her that was unaccrptable. Do her I lay in my bed writing this trying to get the "real care" that I need!

The wait is insane! I could have driven to any other ER within 200miles and been out sooner

I visited the ER here last night, with what was diagnosed as Transient Parathesia. This condition had never happened to me before and so we were concerned about a possible stroke. Everyone here was highly professional. I needed to rule out several things and so the care took a bit of time, but I was diagnosed in about 4 hours, ruling out a stroke or brain tumor. The staff was attentive, friendly and helpful. Remember, this was on a Saturday night. The ER was packed at midnight as we were leaving. Also, the rooms are clean and have excellent sound proofing, leaving the medical area very quiet and calm. There is also plenty of security on the floor. I walked out feeling calm and relieved with an appropriate diagnosis and a paper with information about my condition. I would recommend this ER, just expect to have a wait time.

Ive been coming to this hospital off and on for years ive never been a huge fan of it the wait has always been way to long, hours upon hours just to be seen. Well my boyfriend and i came in because he had a sty on his eye, he popped it and not even an hour later his entire left cheek was swollen so i was worried it had been infected and was spreading. Anyways the dr comes in and hes the most unprofessional moron ive ever seen with a medical degree, he did a basic concussion check on him THAT IS NOT WHAT WE WERE THERE FOR! they didnt run any basic tests or blood tests, and the "doctor" took 10 seconds to look him over and then went on a 15 minute rant about weather or not he thinks vaping is bad for my boyfriend, AGAIN THATS NOT WHAT WE WERE THERE FOR!!, he didnt use any medical terms what so ever i understand that doctors sometimes dumb it down for patients but it was like he didnt know any medical terms at all, i almost asked if he was an actual doctor, he cussed the entire time and acted like he was stoned very unprofessional. Never coming here again.

The ER nurse that tended to us was sweet. Then I go out to wait to see a Dr.,(could be a 6 hour wait) and witness a different blond nurse come out demanding a patient lift his legs into the wheelchair. When the patient doesn't or can't a different nurse and security guard come out (I can't say cop because nothing was done when the male nurse accompanying him kicks the patients feet to get them in the wheelchair!) The nurse takes the patient back and then comes back out to argue with me over what I saw claiming "I didn't kick him, he's being a jerk". I immediately gathered my things and went to Albany General. Character is in how you deal with a situation, and if a hospital condones this kind of behaviour, and makes excuses for it, that shows the character of the facility and the staff. I will continue to use a different hospital until these reviews go up and the HR department handles these problems. People don't go to hospital thinking they're going to get kicked. They could have escorted him out. Period. The hospital's policies even state you will be asked to leave if not minding manners or being threatening. What good is a policy if you're not willing to implement it? Now I have to question the rest of your policies.

Bad. No good. Not pleased at all. Arrogant staff and physicians. Very few are decent. They should be ashamed of what they do to people. No compassion. Provide minimum care. Deny medical attention. This place seems used to EMTALA investigations. I don't write many bad reviews. But this hospital ER deserves it. Drive to a nearby town instead if at all possible.

Ryan Marshall

Lady at the admission check in was absolutely rude and wait times here are astronomical.

Tommy Jones

Terrible emergency department and waited four hours and left. Went to Silverton and was seen right away! Salem still tried to bill my insurance and I had to complain to the state.

Brian Hall

Omg worst Hospital. They skipped over me for hours. Go to Silverton or Portland. This Hospital is sloppy and forgetful. Would give them no stars if I could.

I wanted to give a shout out to the staff at Salem Hospital Emergency Services, especially to Dr. Houck and the main female and male nurse that assisted him last night. (I feel terrible that I can’t remember their names, tis the life of a nurse :) ). I went in for abdominal pain and had a lot of tests done. Throughout all the procedures, from the phlebotomist to the ultrasound tech, they were all kind, professional, and understanding to my situation. At one point during my stay I had a “psychotic episode”, due to my pain or anxiety I am still not sure. But I truly appreciate the care the Dr. and male nurse took to make sure that I was OK, and that they were not making me upset. (I am a women so I understand that it can be a concern for men in this field). I still don’t know what happened, but there professionalism during that time helped me re-center myself and calm down. Yes, it was a long wait/stay, which seems to be the main concern in these reviews. However, I understand that hospitals work based on care and the staff present, especially ones as busy as the ER. Those who are in more need get more time. Although I was in pain, my life was not at risk and the staff made sure that I was as comfortable as possible during my stay.

Sherrin Rosemoon

Treated very disrespectfully. Wrong reason for visit on discharge. Nurse told me she’s not the one to talk to for sympathy re: severe chronic pain.

Please stop catering to obese people.

The staff need to learn how to be gracious to your customers waiting for 6 hours plus. Rude rude rude!! The staff sure does know how to chat it up amongst each other though. If theres long wait times then the staff need to find ways to be more accommodating w blankets or pillows or coffee for those waiting. We, (the customers are why you have a job) Dont forget that. Kids all over the place waiting hours and hours to be seen during the peak of flu season... Really safe Salem really. Sick families being turned away due to wait times. So sad and frustrating to watch :( You need to hire and staff more people and make sure its the right people and fast before everyone goes to silverton or Kaiser.

Jamee Jackson

First time going to this hospital and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Staff was kind and to the point. I was lucky to go at a less busy time and was able to be check in and helped very quickly.

I go to the ER with shortness of breath and chest pain; I wait about twenty minutes before they take me back. I see the doctor and she tells me with my symptoms that she thinks it might be pneumonia, had pneumonia last year and it doesn't feel the same. So, it felt like enternity before they came to take me back for the x-ray. Then the wait for the results rivaled the wait to take them, finally had to ask about when they thought I would have my consult. I am then notified that they scheduled me for a CT scan. Three long hours later, waiting to go back for the CT I finally get to go back and when that happened; I was at the hospital for a grand total of 7 1\2 hours. I wish that the doctors did a better job listening to their patients, then I might have been seen quicker and treated, within a timely fashion. Don't get me wrong, I know the hospital runs differently at night, but 7 1\2 hours after complaining about chest pain and shortness of breath to have a CT is ridiculous. That is my opinion.

Trevor Hagan

I wouldn't go here if you need help quickly. We left after being told it was going to be an hour wait. They told us we would be waiting wherever we went. We drove 30 minutes away and got help immediately. The 2 women at the check in (ER) were emotionless and acted like we were an inconvenience talking to them.

Not sure why the bad reviews. The staff were wonderful. They made sure my husband and I were comfortable while in the waiting room, and were very thoughtful through the entire experience. The nurses were lovely and so was the doctor I saw.

Deon Wynia

Honestly the worst hospital I been to went in to get seen because I was having chest pains and my doctor wanted to make sure it wasn't a pre heart attack waited in waiting room for 3 hours before seen and they handed me back paperwork that wasnt even mine and also mixed up peoples check in and did them wrong so everyone had to wait longer

An all the staff think it's fine to joke an laugh an talk about everything else near there desks instead of helping people this place needs to be investigated an get people who care about the people coming into the emergency room instead of the people who work that dont care

Really amazing staff! So nice! I had a situation involving a minor chemical burn on my hands and they were super attentive! Thank you so much for your help!

Salem hospital emergency room is a disgrace! Unless you are dying they treat you like you are wasting their time. Every time I've been here it's a ridiculously long wait…and the waiting room is always full of people who are suffering and in misery but this place doesn't seem to care enough to have 1. Enough doctors working or 2. Facilities large enough to handle the number of people coming here. This time, I went to the emergency room on the 1st of February at around 11 pm to have my 21 month old son seen for respiratory distress. His symptoms were chest retractions, increased heart and breathing rate, sweating, accessory muscle use, and periodic wheezing as well as coughing fits. He has a history of asthma so I was very concerned since this is the worst I've seen him. Before going I debulized him with albuterol but it only helped a little bit for a half hour or so. When I arrived, I was sent to triage quickly. There they decided to nebulize him with albuterol again although I told them I had within the last 2 hrs with only little improvement. Then I waited, and waited, and waited. Finally, we get a room but here the wait continues. He gets an x-ray and lab tests (to check for pneumonia and flu). More waiting. More waiting. Meanwhile, my son is still in distress. When a doctor finally comes around it's for seconds… and he's not even a doctor, but a doctor's assistant. So we waited 5 hrs to not even see a doctor! After seeing my son for seconds I am told he will be given prednisone. Then we're left for even longer. While waiting, I overheard a nurse on the phone seemingly confused as to where she can get this prednisone for him. Then she comes with prescriptions for more albuterol and the prednisone! I must have seemed dismayed that my son wasn't getting the medicine there (I was under the impression he was getting asap) because then she said “Oh, is that ok?” It was 4 in the morning!!?? Where was I going to get the medicine!!?? He seemed a little better breathing by now, but still not better. So we leave, after waiting 5 hours with no medication to help his breathing. The next day I go to get his prescription filled. The first pharmacy is out. So I go to another, but this pharmacy can't even fill it because it was written incorrectly. So I have to wait even longer because of their incompetence. Don't go to Salem emergency room, they just don't care about their patients.

The nurses in the emergency room seriously need to chill out. Their attitude is super dry & rude. They’re so short with their time as if we (family of patient) are a bother to them with our questions & concerns. I’ve had a couple of bad experiences with some femal RN’s here who just seem like they’re in the wrong field withgbeir smovby attitudes. #GetSomeSleep

Was in car accident got Transported by ambulance to the hospital I got put into a neck brace by the EMT and we'll the hospital is having me wait in the emergency room for over 3hrs without seeing a doctor....

Kari Smith

Fantastic care and quality staff. I waited a bit, but they are the busiest ED from California to Washington. If they rush you back it means you are not doing well, so I was ok waiting. The doctor, nurse and tech were extremely knowledgeable and professional. Grateful we have this in Salem! Salem Health also has a convenient care that sees minor injuries and illnesses and they take appointments!! GREAT JOB!!!

On November 17th, 2018. My brother was taken to the Intensive Care Unit. He had stage 4 terminal liver cancer. My sister and I were there with him. I wanted to thank his RN Jessica ( day shift) and Sherrie ( night shift) who were there for us in our greatest time of need. Jessica was constantly coming in to check on my brother , and making sure he was not in pain and monitoring his breathing...She knew our hearts were in so much pain seeing our brother with terminal cancer. We held his hand and whispered in his ear that we loved him so much. We didnt want to leave his room, we wanted to be there when he took his last breath. Jessica was so sweet, she had cofee and tea / snacks brought to our room. Thank you so much Jessica !! Doctor Firoosi also sat down with us and patiently with kind words talked about my brothers health to us. Thank you Doctor Firoosi! The respiration tube was removed from my brother , per his wishes. After tube was removed, he kept on breathing, ( Thank you God for giving us more time with him). The next morning he was transferred to another floor. RN Joel from the 6th floor was there for us til the end. On November 18th at 3:43 my precious brother gave his last breath. My sister and I felt like our hearts were breaking in pieces. We cried and cried. RN Joel knew what we were going thru so much hurt. Thank you Joel for being there for us... Salem Hospital, is a hospital that really CARES for there patients...Thank you Salem Hospital! Sincerely, Victoria and Sarah

OMG I assumed this wonderful place would have at least unanimous high star reviews! I have Kaiser insurance and was referred due to an intense lower stomach pain that I stupidly tried to ignore for three days. I checked in around 1:pm which was diagnosed fairly quickly after a CAT SCAN - It turned out I had a bad appendix and had laparoscopic surgery at 3:am that night. It was scheduled for 11:pm, however there were emergency surgeries which came up which were certainly more dire than mine. While I was in significant pain I did consider a child in a life threatening situation or a mom in a bad car wreck and was able to be patient. The hours in the waiting area was interesting and may explain in part, some of these reviews. I saw a lot of what looked like drug seeking by patients as well as a lot of folks being treated quickly in and out many in a few hours or less likely many being needing to be there without healthcare. I recall one lady bitterly complaining she had to wait and hour for her X-Ray results! The nurses I saw the most in the waiting area were Megan and Jen. Megan was extremely patient with everyone and I was touched and surprised hearing her call numerous times trying to admit me into a room though I did not ask her to do this. Jen was funny, attentive and sweet. My Kaiser Surgeon Kristopher Carlisle Dozier, MD explained the procedure well and I felt instantly comfortable with him. I was pretty impressed he was working at all at 3:am. When I voiced my surprise he said something to the effect he was committed to doing my surgery and acknowledged my pain. The next day in my comfortable heavenly single quiet room a series of super nice and attentive nurses were at my side frequently. The main nurse Gabby was amazingly kind encouraging and funny as well. Kelly a CNA was also very nice. I woke up very clear headed felt amazingly better started walking ASAP and was released at 1:pm and was allowed to drive home as I didn't take or feel the need for any medication even a Tylenol. Every single individual I talked to at Salem Emergency Heath Hospital - Emergency Room seemed kind, helpful and professional. It actually was kind of a wonderful experience weirdly, due to all of them. Thank you all SOOO MUCH!!!

Half assed and incomplete "care".

K Blocher

This is a terrible hospital full of people who generally just don't care. From the time I walked through the door I was surrounded by rude receptionists then brought to meet doctors who didn't seem to know a thing. I do not recommend this hospital to anyone.

DeeAnn Sullenger

Today I am here with my twin brother for his diabetes and we were told that he would just two bags of fluids, food, and insulin. The first nurse we had was super nice and msde my brother actually feel like he mattered. Then an RN Ben came into the room and we asked how much longer it will take and where the nurse he had went and his response was " Skyler is taking care of someone that is actually a priority." That comment made my brother feel like he wasn't a priority to by multiple actions being said a done today. He didn't get food until 5minutes ago and he was told that he would get some food 3 hours ago. I hope Salem Hospital takes so action and gets better on actually caring for thier patients that have to come into the ER.

Emergency room wait times are ridiculously.long. Just go elsewhere. You could drive to Portland or Eugene and be treated and home before even seeing a doctor in Salem. I've been in the ER here twice, both waits of 5 hours before being seen.

Here we are at the Salem Hospital. Family memeber having severe problems. Was triaged relatively fast and sent back to the hallway of the ER where we sat for 2 hours before being roomed. The once roomed, we sat for another 5 and half hours totaling 7.5 hours so far and the only doctor we’ve seen was the triage doctor. They aren’t even that busy. Something needs to change and change fast. This is supposed to be a great hospital and a great magnet hospital. So far the only great thing I’ve seen is the nurses. Doctors don’t seem to care at all. What a disgrace.

Gary Weight

ER to TCU, thank you very much. Excellent patient care. Excellent doctor knowledge.

jordyn lea

So great! My one year old daughter went in yesterday because she was very sick and she had to get a bunch of shots so one of the nurses gave her a cute little stuffed piggy to make her feel better and she loved it!

Brian Johnson

Fantastic caring nurses and doctors! They have been very informative and compassionate while taking care of my father.

Patty Williams

Salem hospital emergency is the worst I have ever visited. I will do everything in my power to steer clear of their emergency room from now on. I took my husband there at 9am and a lady there 2hrs before us was still waiting to be seen when we went back around 11pm. Oh I know how it works, I know our insurance was most likely better than hers, this is why we were called in first. Fast forward, while in the back the RN's were horrible. We had a MRI and UA done a it took 4+ hours. So a total of 7+ hour later we were finally seen by a dr to get the results. Mind you this happened when it did, only because we threatened to walk out. I went to the nurses station to inquire about the test results and was lied to by our nurse and an older nurse who was rude as HELL. My Therapist would be proud of me, I walked away before I lost my religion. So walking out of the ER at 3:45am or so, we ran into the lady from earlier she was still waiting to be seen. SMH!

For the last 3 weeks (almost daily) , my fiancee has been in and out of this facility with her rare kidney disease. All this place does is throw fluids and meds at her instead of actually giving 2 craps to want to help fix her. Each visit lasts 4-6hrs long on average. Considering a class action lawsuit due to the sheer incompetence...

Chela kyle

As someone who works in the medical field I am so disappointed in your ER doctors competency. My aunt visiting out state ended up at urgent care twice and Salem ER once. She was suffering with a sinus infection and was denied antibiotics every visit. She also was suffering from sudden hearing loss for over a week. Now even i know a patient has 7-10 days to get on prednisone if they are suffering from sudden loss. She was NEVER given prednisone. I was able to get her into WIllamette ENT today. I myself did not know about her condition until this past Saturday. Now she is at risk of permanent hearing loss due to the urgent care and Salem ER negligence. This is not our family's only horrible encounter with the ER. Salem ER failed to catch my 13 year old cousin's brain tumor after not one, not two but multiple visits. By the time someone finally did imaging on his head the tumor was the size of a grapefruit. Due to multiple surgeries and suffering a stroke during the first surgery, he is permanently blind.

SAM PULLARO Little Bark

ER doctor very good 1st nurse very good poor comunication between staff so much laughing and joking outside my wife was choking no help you could of heard outside my wife soiled herself staff Mia ..it's hit and miss in this Er

Sara Zima

Wonderful staff, so kind and caring! It was warming to feel that our nurse Ashley really empathized with my mother, even though working in the ER she is probably well used to seeing people in pain. Thank you Ashley and everyone who helped us!

Emily Cameron

The wait times are ridiculous I would rather be at home in pain then wait on them. If you can wait for an urgent care or go to a different hospital I would.

Rebecca Padzieski-Shepard

they leave you with the impression that THEY DO NOT REALLY CARE. If they can not figure out what the problem is they say it's "in your head", "anxiety" or poor diet...or whatever bs they can come up with. Apparently, they do not know how to read, they can type things into their computers but the Doctors and nurses can not read or comprehend it...and, they do not follow thru...that is just the tip of our nightmare with them

Angela Johnson

If I could give zero stars I would. My 17 year old son was taken here by ambulance and they stuck him in the hallway and didn't ever give him a room. Worst experience ever.
