Very good service, not a very long wait after signing in. Appointments ahead of time are somewhat recommended.

“Cafeteria opens back up at 11pm.” they said. Walk an extraordinarily long walk from new building that was opened without food sources ready only to find the cafeteria not open. So I buy a $1.90 bottle of water from a vending machine. Then treat myself to a tiny $1.50 bag of beef jerky that cost $2.25 because the machine ate $.75. I then follow the signs back to the maternity ward EXCEPT they still direct people to the OLD maternity ward. So now it’s midnight, I’m outside feeling pretty unsure of my surroundings and the neighborhood. Eventually I made it back. Every security employee cheerfully acknowledged the signs are both horrible and woefully inadequate. Try surgery at home with YouTube before coming here with your problems.

The staff is EXTREMELY rude... I got yelled at for asking for NAUSEA medicine because I felt as if I was going to vomit. Then I asked for my dressing to be changed over my chest port because it was leaving a rash on my chest and the nurse snapped at me and told me no. I definitely will NOT ave coming back here for anything. On top of it all, my bathroom and room were filthy.

Carol Crimi

I had very good post surgery care on the West wing. The nurses and all staff were kind and dedicated. My room was always kept clean and the staff was very nice. There were ample meal choices and the meals were served hot an promptly.

OB sent me to OB triage. Got there, and was sent downstairs to ER. Waited in ER for 3 hours while everyone and their brother got called before me. I’m in pain and 19 weeks pregnant.. left to go to a better ER. Update: got sent back today, (the next day), by my OB stating triage should have never sent me down to ER, and that I needed blood work. Got there, triage took me back, and the dr there said they’re not doing blood work and that my back hurts because I’m pregnant. I was sent for a possible kidney infection. Very sad this is the only hospital my OB delivers at because I love her to death but hate Akron city. If you have the choice, go somewhere else.

The ER doctor sucks. Go in for huge lump on my foot and get told they don’t know exactly what it is but they believe it’s a cyst and that I need to go to a orthopedic dr for them to drain it. Smh I’ll never come back here or recommend anyone to come here

My husband was scheduled for a surgery at 7:30 am and he texted me at 8am telling me he doesn't know when he will be getting the surgery. When I got to the hospital they were very rude, wouldn't give me very many details, and all I want to do is see my husband since they striped away his rights to have his family here with him. He is a dialysis patient and I would have been devastated if something bad would have happened and I never got to see him alive again. I am beyond upset that this hospital is so unorganized that patients don't have time to contact their loved one in a time of need. We live 40 minutes away and it's not like I can just get in my car and go before he goes in for a surgery, I i know hospitals are all about patient rights, but what about the rights of the patients families that you totally stripped away from us? I know I can't be the only one his has happened to.

Mo Jacke

Zero stars! They’re rude. The place is very unorganized. Hours of waiting just to be seen, and sent back home. Just I come back the next day. You guys are better off going to Cleveland clinic Akron General!

My wife had a brain aneurysm rupture. She was taken to the Summa Akron Campus where she got excellent care. She spent 19 days in the neurological ICU. During those 19 days we found the doctors to be knowledgeable and friendly, I believed they really cared for the health of my wife. The same was true with the nurses. Event the cleaning crew was friendly and did a good job. After 19 day she is home and is recovering much better than expected. I cannot say enough good about the Hospital and its staff.

Josh Shetler

I want to start this review by saying this does not reflect my wife's doctor, Dr. Kevin Spear, in any way. He has been fantastic and only just transferred to Summa this year. The issues start at day one. My wife has had over 50 surgeries and has special conditions and was treated by the residents and nurses as though she was your average person. They couldn't understand that a small woman could have resistances to certain pain meds and have a much different pain threshold than the average person who has only had a couple surgeries. 1.) Surgery is cancelled by the doctor himself, a day beforehand as a simple scoping procedure cannot be done in this case. Hospital calls my wife the next morning, frantically demanding to know why she isn't there for surgery. They got rude with her, then hung up on her and we didn't hear another word. 2.) The day of her actual first surgery, all the consent forms reflect the non-invasive, scope procedure and none of the employees have any clue what is actually happening. - Her second surgery had consent forms relevant to the first surgery. - Staff assumed each surgery was outpatient and didn't understand why she was staying at the hospital. 3.) Nursing care is more miss than hit and the resident doctors are not great. Lack of quality care undoes part of what the surgeon did, leaving my wife in pain and not healing for roughly 10 more days in the hospital and about 10 days at home and requiring another surgery. - Pain meds were never, ever given on time. Nearly always 40+ minutes late, when my wife's stay was about pain management. - None of the nurses knew how to work a pain pump. - When my wife was experiencing 10/10 levels of pain, the attending nurse told the nurse who knew how to set up the pain pump to "finish her lunch, she's not in a hurry" right in front of my wife who was crying out in pain. - The nurses were not familiar with the abdominal pump that had to be installed following my wife's issues with care. - The pump was left in the closed position by the people who installed it, causing intense pain after a couple hours of pressure buildup. 4.) The pain management doctors are not actually pain management doctors. A nurse told us that the hospital had laid off the pain doctors. Our pain doctor was Dr. Tipton, who is actually an anesthesiologist. - Dr. Tipton has no bedside manner and doesn't listen well - Doctors that came in his place always came when something was happening (like a bed change) where my wife was in extreme pain and couldn't speak. - Two days after the second surgery, Dr. Tipton called for a psychologist to evaluate my wife as he suspected the pain was "in her head" - again ignoring the sheer number of surgeries my wife has had, her pain threshold, and resistance to certain meds. Not to mention physical differences that make this surgery more delicate for her as well as the fact it was the second surgery, for the same thing, after sustaining damage from the first stay's care. - Also after the second surgery, Dr. Tipton did not prescribe the meds that worked to curb pain after the first surgery. He seemed to be experimenting at this point, even though we told everyone we could for days that the pain meds he was giving were not working. - It took my wife's doctor intervening to change the meds to what worked. He instructed his resident to change it, who did, but another doctor got in the system at the same time and removed the new order. This left my wife with zero pain meds available for a couple hours. We worked with a nurse to figure out what had happened, and explained which med was the correct one. She came back a while later with the wrong med and was shocked that we were upset. Then we had to wait several hours for this to be corrected. Dr. Tipton appeared not to like his order being changed and showed up with a posse of 3 other doctors the next day to question my wife about the changes. There's more, but it seems I've reached my character limit. Please avoid this hospital like the plague.

The nursery and labor department is horrible I had the worst experience with one of the night RN she didn’t check on me, she didn’t give me my medicine on time, my garbage from eating lunch stayed in my room for 6 hours stinking up my room to the point I had to call someone else to get it she had an attitude with me for no reason stressing me out after a c-section making my son cry because she said he had to leave and she was going to call CSB on him and slamming the door waking up my newborn at 12 am, they are very unprofessional never go here to have a baby!!!!!!

I have met just a few young Doctors and nurses in training also in further educating themselves to help and fight for our communities in Akron Kent Green Stow and Cuyahoga falls, all of them have been exceptionally professional with compassion and responsible! Thank you Summa Family Practice! #Summafamilypractice........ Well now here it is three months later and I'll get into this s little more but I am giving this place. Summa family practice 55 arch street Akron Ohio one more chance to help me out. I am sick with an unwanted visitor it seems these last six months. I'm afraid and I'm tired of fighting it alone. This Doctor of mine needs to pull her big girl britches up and take heed to what I have said and will repeat again. It could mean my life. I'm losing a battle one my enemy has played for a long time. Doc E please step out of the what they call impossibilities but sometimes there is change. Medical is not math. It's Science!

Honestly, after having to come to the emergency room 3 times, I'm not happy. They kept blindly diagnosing my condition. The first visit, they took a urine sample and before they got the tests back, treated me for something they couldn't confirm. I took one does of antibiotics there and was sent on my way. Then second visit, I was told all the tests came back negative and that I didn't need the antibiotics I was administered. They then proceeded to take another urine sample and put me on antibiotics (without even examining the infected area) again for something they couldn't confirm. Today I returned as my condition has exponentially worsened. They ensured me that it was probably just an allergic reaction, but later told me my condition was an incurable disease. That would not have bothered me if they had actually taken some tests to confirm that I had this disease, but all they did was examine it. I have since talked to several other doctors not from Summa and they have all said that my condition cannot be diagnosed just by looking at it. I will never return to this hospital, even if my life depended on it. The staff may seem nice, but I feel like they have no idea what they are doing.

I ended up in their ER twice in a 24 hour period from extreme kidney stone and lithotripsy pain. Both times I was sent home and told to just deal with the pain even though my pain was at a 10 on their scale. The second time I was in the ER I was taken via ambulance because I couldn't stand or walk the pain was so severe. I felt like my kidney and bladder were burning inside me. The ER staff didn't give me the time of day or listen to me and what I was feeling. They just said it was a side effect of the stone and lithotripsy and I had to just take some ibuprofen and deal with it. I even said I was considered it was something with my ovary or maybe I had an infection but no other options were considered, no tests were run, and I saw a doctor for all of 2 minutes. Using City Hospital has been a horrible nightmare and I will not be back. And what's frustrating too, I had lithotripsy to remove a stone because of the pain it was causing. After all this, the urologist said he broke the stone up but can't get it out and I will probably have to go through all this again in a few years. So I started with one big stone and now have 3 smaller stones. So much for first do no harm! I in a worse situation than when I started. Not to mention, taking ibuprofen round the clock for pain is going to destroy my stomach-that can't be good advice. While under for surgery my bottom lip was cut open and I haven't received any explanation for it. So on top of the severe kidney and bladder pain, the pain urinating, and the peeing blood, I also have a swollen lip that makes it very painful to try eat. I left what should have been a simple procedure in more pain and discomfort than I should have. I'm sure though Summa will be on top of sending my bills for their horrible service and bedside manner. Can't wait to see how much my bill is for my second ER visit where they literally did nothing for me other than tell me to suck it up in reference to my pain. Don't go here. I wish I hadn't.

The greatest, they saver my life.

Had to call EMS for a neighbor who is blind Saturday night. Took her to Summa. First, it was a slow night, not a lot of people there. Ended up in the EMS room for 10 hours, yes TEN. They had to do a cat scan of her stomach and we waited , waited and waited. Finally someone came and said they were reading her cat scan. “What cat scan you never took it”!!!Then her heart monitor fell off making it looked like she flat lined on the screen. Again, no one came. That’s alarming!!! Next a homeless man from the streets entered her room. It was like a three ring circus. After 8 hours they brought the final paperwork in to send her up to a room. It was ano 2 hours!!!! Totally unacceptable you need to get it together Summa!!! Now she needs hernia surgery and scared to death to have it done there bec of all unorganization.

I been at THIS Hospital for a longtime giving them chance they have messed me around FOR THE last time they do have some good people my experiences with them is JUST NOT RIGHT. The wait here is horrible, they will have you sitting for hours. And then want to get a attitude when you ask how long it will be. Then you express to them that you have been there for 5 hours and they really don't care. I watched lauren the RN get smart with 3 different people that was asking a question. Very rude and unprofessional...

vince grassi

My fiance's first visit there went well but last night makes me wonder if there is anyone competent working there. The nurses in the ER turned off the nurse call alarm twice and didn't even come into the room after giving my fiancee medicine to lower her blood pressure instead of pain medication for her nerve pain in her shoulder . She just had vertebrae surgery 2 weeks ago. Then the doctor comes in and talks to us and me and my fiancee disagreed on what she said so we asked to talk to the doctor to clarify. The nurse said she would have her come back. Then a nurse came in and we signed discharge papers and waited for the doctor and a few minutes later a security guard came in very rudely and said he was told we refused to leave. Needless to say I was curious but left without a scene and unanswered questions. Worst ER visit ever. I hope the right person sees this and fixes the practices there. It's enough that the staff is rude and inattentive but they are giving wrong medications. Your hospital is an accident waiting to happen

madam Gracie

If i could this place zero stars i would. My mom was admitted to the er at 10:30 pm. It is currently 3:00 pm the next day and we still havent gotten the mri. For the this huge hospital they only have one mri machine. It took the pharmacy three hours to give my mom her medication. This place is so frustrating

Mike Leonard

Why does this place have mediocre ratings? This is probably the best hospital I've ever been to. I had gotten my appendix removed and the surgent was absolutely wonderful. All the nurses and assistants were just as good and friendly. I had Courtney, Jill, and someone else as my nurses and they were very sweet and open to any concerns or question I had! Also I never had to wait in the emergency room and the food was top notch. Thanks summa, will return again!

Kristin cottle

Very dirty. Poor communication.

Elizabeth Monteith

This hospital is horrible. My mom is a double amputee and also due to having a severe stroke she cannot speak. They discharged my mom to a nursing facility without even contacting me. Horrible communication. I don’t even want to give this hospital one star. They don’t deserve that.

Jen Brock

I can’t say enough AMAZING things about my experience at this hospital! My husband and I transplanted to Ohio a few years before the birth of our boys, and weren’t familiar with the hospitals in the area. I delivered both of my sons at this hospital, and the nurses, and doctors did an amazing job caring for us! Just prior to delivering my second son, my insurance carrier changed, leaving ACH an out-of-network provider, I was told I couldn’t deliver there, I was crushed! My doctor sent a letter to ACH and asked if I could deliver there out-of-network . I was willing to pay out of pocket if needed, I just had such a good experience, and didn’t want to go anywhere else. ACH accepted my request, and I was able to deliver my son there. ACH was gracious enough without my knowledge, to cut my costs. Thank you ACH for such a wonderful experience!!

Theresa Shipp

My husband spent 2 weeks in the Heart & Lung unit wow what an amazing group of people who work there. The nursing staff in that unit were the best. They not only saved my husbands live but they were there for me too. No matter what the question was or the request was they were there to help us thru this. There were others in the hospital that were also so kind to me while I waited for him to get out of surgery. No one person who walked by and didn't offer to help me find out what was going on or just give me a hug. I will never be able to thank all of them enough for all the kindness. All of them are my hero's ! There are so many people to thank who were so professional, patient and kind to us during this time when we were so scared. Dr Baranek is the best thank you. Mike & Theresa in PT, all the people who gave him his breathing treatments you are awesome. I could go on and on just know the employees at this hospital each and everyone of you no matter what department you are in made things easier for me and Summa is lucky to have such awesome people working for them. My husband has been home for a week now and is doing amazing. Thank you all so very much you are the best.

Mike Pachasa

My Dr sent me here for x-rays o my knees. Check in was quick and easy and I was told it was a good time because they were not busy. The first hour and a half I watched them call everyone before me then everyone after me get called back. Over the next 20 minutes only 1 persaon was called back and they just walked in. I assume the staff was getting lunch since it was 20 after noon and I arrived at 10:30. I can only imagine how long the wait would be if they were buzy. I walked out and I guess I will just keep taking my 10 advil a day. If my Dr wants x-rays so bad he will have to find me another place to go. Avoid it at all costs

I was okay with coming here and giving birth to my son a week ago after 34 hrs of labor and then finally they decided to give me a c section. Was discharged Thursday, even though I told them I had chest pains and a headache since tuesday morning at 6am. They let me go. Came back via ambulance to the ER saturday night at 11pm with chest pains and shortness of breath. After two blood transfusions and other tests they said I would be discharged around 2pm sunday. Nope! Turns out I had postpartum pre eclampsia. So they said they would put me in the ICU. they never put the order in to get me in the ICU. so after telling my nurse, mike, about it and complaining again, he checked and they never put the order in. 2 hrs! So after 17 hrs in the ER, my chest pains were gone, and I could breathe. But now I have postpartum pre eclampsia. So at 4pm sunday it takes them 10 mins to put me in the ICU, where is was empty. So there was no reason for me to wait 2 hrs to get up there. Stayed on magnesium bags for 24 hrs. The ICU nurses are wonderful. They actually get it, even though they told me they really don't deal with postpartum pregnant women. But they did great. I was told by the doctor / OB, that I would be moved to the postpartum unit to rest for my last day here. So... tell me why am I now currently in a residents room with kids that have no knowledge of what a c section should look like? I'm still here. Room 637A. Would love to know why I'm not in the postpartum unit, because I asked a nursing student and she couldn't give me a clear answer because she didn't know why herself. Suppose to be discharged today. Still waiting on my meds from 2 hrs ago that they didn't have on hand, and it's been 30 mins since I was suppose to have my pain meds. Let try and call someone again. 11/7/17 @10:33am.

My mother is there now it has been one mistake after another with her. They are very unprofessional and unorganized. They had another persons chart mixed in with her chart. She was admitted with heart issues......she was there for more than 24 hours before a cardiologist had seen her. If you or a loved one is in this hospital you MUST have a person there to be an advocate because of all the mistakes that were made in this hospital I fear for her well being if she is left alone and cannot speak up for herself ! I will NEVER recommend this hospital to ANYONE! Worst experience I have ever had!

Daylin Lewis

All of my family members died there

Kevin Smith

Beautiful new building as part of the Summa Campus - gave birth to our daughter in the new maternity ward and it was outstanding. The rooms are private and spacious and everything about the facility is modern. The art from local artists is a grand gesture and demonstrative of commitment to community

courtney marie

Wont have my 2nd child here. 1st one here was bad experience. This time around, now I come here on concern I've never had a problem with for 1 pregnancy. Came here during work and barely telling me much. I pressed nurse light took them 6mins to come to my room. Also I been waiting for lab results for over an hour now and now when someone did come to my room they wanna give me the rogram shot but cant still tell me how much longer ima be waiting here. Never coming here again for any reason.

Joe Gordy

A lot of your doctors and nurses and surgeons need to be fired and hire new ones AFTER thoroughly checking their background for racism. It's sad what I hear these people say about patients as I walk through the halls. They feel comfortable because I'm white however it is quite disturbing how they speak of patients of a different race or background. Things like "let them die" or he was a thug so why waste our hard work on saving him. I believe a lot of people had chances to live if some of these people weren't in a position to SAVE them. They even talk bad about the blacks that work there. Who would want to come to a hospital to be saved knowing they could very well be legally killed. I even heard a surgeon talk about how he let a thug die who came in for simple surgery. It's truly sad. Clean your hospital and get all new staff after you MAKE SURE they aren't bigots!! You enforce rules for patients to be kind to staff and threaten patients and visitors with jail if they don't comply!! The same should be done for staff. 75 percent of your staff are rude as well as racist!!

Charlie G

Well my experience was mixed but overall good after spending a couple of days in July. Everybody I met seemed nice. My reason for a low review is that Summa Health has ended my healthcare in a way that threatens to deny my hospital stay and ends my coverage at the worst possible moment. I am contending that the decision was discriminatory because of my illness.

Classic Transport

The staff at this emergency room is awesome in care and professionalism. They went above and beyond what we expected in care and explaining what to expect after the visit. They answered all questions and made sure we were comfortable before discharging us. They get 5 stars from me

Taylor Proctor

I was there for 3 hrs before being seen o left i will never go back

Deborah Dropcho

I was sent to the ER by my doctor. Spent 6 hours in ER and the only kind words and genuine care we got were from the U/S technician. You could hear the staff in nursing station clearly laughing, talking about patients and swearing. Overall very unprofessional. The nursing supervisor was excellent but other than that I was extremely disappointed. The Physician Assistant, I'm sorry to say, might as well have been a resident for her bedside manner. I was never asked if I needed something for pain or nausea, and only received care when I specifically asked for it. Discharge instructions were nonexistent besides the generic print out. What the he'll happened to health care? Addendum: went to Same day surgery and was blown away by the kindness, compassion and overall excellent care. Can't believe this is the same place where we were just treated so poorly. Therefore, the above review and one star originally given are only relevant to the ER.

Susan Broman

Having a horrible experience. Waiting literally hours for transport between ER and test departments.

christy lee

Rescue me from the big bleeding. thank you very much

Samantha Dilly

Great Nicu :)

Justin Outland

Completely clues! Absolutely no care in the world for you! Never coming back here.Extremely Careless and gross negligence! If I were able to give zero stars I would!!!

Jordan Leung

Had my kid here but he didn't turn into an NBA MVP. Other than that it was a decent hospital.

Steve Karl

My wife is going through cancer treatment and had adverse reaction to her last chemo treatment. Her oncologist told her to go to Summa City for tests. Even though her oncologist made arrangements with the emergency department, we waited 3 hours without service. My wife had severe diarrhea. Their solution, sit in waiting area for 3 hours. By end of 3 hours, my wife was in such severe discomfort, we just left. My other issue was told wait due to others needing care due to triage. We saw at least 6 others get a room before we left. They all arrived after we did. One I overheard had a rash on her arms. Are rashes now life threatening? Four hours wasted, no treatment and more unneeded stress for my wife who is already dealing with a stressful situation.

John Conrow

Great staff friendly helpful good food better than a lot of resterants even on a carb reduced diet. ICU staff awesome

Brittany Fegancher

Best hospital. Took wonderful care of my mil on the palliative care unit. Everyone was so wonderful. Doctors were caring and understanding. I have also had 3 babies here. LOVE LOVE LOVE the maternity ward over AGMC...

aravind anche

The wait here is horrible, they will have you sitting for hours. And then want to get a attitude when you ask how long it will be. They let me in when I told them I will be coming later, then they let me in after 3 hrs. They billed me for emergency services after 3 hour wait. It was 1 minute treatment and charged me around $1500.

Sydney Goodyear

The staff here is super friendly and always trying to make my experience the best I've ever had. I'm very impressed and HIGHLY recommend this hospital. They've always taken wonderful care of me, my family, and my friends. Plus - they're very clean, which I can honestly say most other hospitals I've been to have never taken as great of care in cleanliness as Akron City Hospital. Definitely a 10 out of 10!

A Locked 90s Nation World

Such beautiful people and spirits in the OuOpatient surgery section. All so sweet caring attentive professional and on point. Dr. Wiener and Collaknee (I know I'm butchering his name sorry) were so good to me. The staff was great. I loved them all. Even ones who were working with with other patients all smiled said hello. They kept me comfortable since I walked in. In the operating room they did the same. Anesthetics group so sweet. Amazing women kept reassuring they weren't leaving my side. Walked me through everything. It was my first surgery. Id prefer anyone. Great people staff great care great everything.

Charlotte Newman

The hosptial nice and clean and the nurses are nice but my sister has a gasto problem called Gastroparese and they just gave her fluids and sent her home in one day. She need other option.

Moe Biscuit

I went to the emergency room on a Friday night..complaining of chest pain, stomach pain, neck an head pain..felt I was about to pass out..an I waited 3 hours before I left, but because they was full..i guess a EKG was not a concern of theirs...especially when someone like me has congestive heart failure..it was alot of people there..waiting already 5 to 6 hours..they gave no explanation..nurses had attitudes..so yes, your hospital looks great, but your patient care still sucks..thats why they call you death city. I felt like I needed to call 911 to the er, just so I can get some help..sad..just sad..

Diana Chan

The doctors and staff are caring and helpful; they take their time listening to you and know which questions to ask to ensure that they have all the necessary information they need to keep you healthy!

Kelly Whaler

Been here since 230 am it is now 543 am. I got in a room right away because I came by ambulance. Nurse seems very friendly and the 3 doctors I've seen have been very nice as well. However, I asked for a blanket over an hour ago, and still haven't received one. It is as cold in here as it is outside, and I can't have a blanket? I typically go to Falls General and they give you a blanket as soon as your butt hits the bed. Gave three stars because I'm freezing to death. Update: 614am and still no blanket and the man in the room beside me was just yelling at the nurse to take him out of the system and let him leave because she hasn't been treating him right all night. Kind of disturbing.

Nickol Starcher

Have had better experiences some very judgmental older nurses in maternity ward judging me on having csection not breast feeding getting tubes tied to young but worst was my son potentially got hurt I was a mess upset told the nurse he needed to be seen by the pediatrician just to make sure he was ok and he was but got judged like i had done something horrific act and really injured him to find out that it was a common accident but of course nurse perfection said well in all her 30+ years that's never happened and even after he was checked out and fine they acted like I shouldn't get to see/have him not cool I was terrified and you just made me feel even worst and then telling me I can't do this and that so i said I'm not sure im just waiting to see what doctor says and she got an additude and left room just horrible to have to deal with this when its supposed to be a happy place and time but there were some great Drs and nurses that understood and reasured me I did the right thing and that's all that should matter is my baby not your personal feelings

Carol LaSpina

My husband had a Colonoscapy here. I have nothing but good things to say about the people and the facility.

Jesse Shaffer

These nurses around here seriously have some horrible bedside manner !!

Gloria Lietzow

My experience at Akron City could not have been better! My stay of 7 days, 1,1/2 days were on the 3rd floor before heart surgery then, in the SCV ICU Unit after surgery. All of the staff and I do mean every person in every department that I came in contact with was friendly, kind, compassionate , caring, and helpful. I could not have received better care in any way! I do recommend this hospital to anyone who asks me about my surgery and my experience. I am grateful to have received such excellent care during my entire stay there.

Jake Wotring

Place is so unorganized and rude people everywhere. Applied for a position of employment here, i was asked for 5 references which I provided including their email addresses and phone numbers, had a interview, 12 days later still heard nothing, you would think I would receive a email or letter saying if I got the position or not,but no nothing at all, i really don't understand their human resource management at all, very unprofessional, i provided what they asked, but I wasn't worth a reply if I got the position or not.

When PAs are dumb they truly are dumb. I say this because I hurt my side and shoulder. The PA (who should be named but I won't) said I had a bruised rib. The ortho assistant brought a sling for my sprained shoulder and didn't help put it on. The sling is a walking advertisement for SUMMA. Who really wants to give SUMMA free advertising? SO, I GOT HOME AND MY RIBS WERE HURTING SO I SIGNED ONTO "MY CHART"...HERE THE PA ORDERED THE WRONG SIDE BE LOOKED AT ON THE XRAY. I BROKE A RIB ON MY LEFT SIDE NOT RIGHT. I called the emergency room (located in Green) to tell them they checked the wrong side of the ribcage and got transfered to doctor who read the xray. He reread the xray looking at the left side and called back and said yes the rib on your left is broken. He updated the chart thank goodness. Just in case your a Physician Assistant and you don't know your right from your left please learn it's important. Things bad can happen with a broken rib. May be I'll try AGMC/CC next time. My first question do you know your right from your left doctor?

Nurse disappeared so I was sitting in a room waiting for them to pick up my pee sample.. So I can get a pregnancy test; even when I told them I wasn't pregnant and I was just tested yesterday. Since the nurse disappeared I asked another nurse and she had an attitude. She told me she couldn't find my chart and didn't know what I was here for.. She finally took my pee sample and it came back negative like I said it would. The nurses there are unorganized, the doctors don't seem to care about the patients. It was a terrible experience. Don't not go there.

Terry Phillips

After my auto accident 11/9/2016, I waited in the emergency room over an hour. There was only one other person in the ER at that time. After I was taken to another room for examination, about every 20 minutes someone would come in and ask me questions and then leave. I finally had X-Rays taken after around three (3) hours. After I returned to my waiting area, I finally had to ask someone when I would be able to leave. My entire visit, from start to finish, took four (4) hours.

A family member is a patient here far too often but that is no fault of Summa. Just part of the getting older process. She is always well taken care of. High marks for the nurses and doctors employed here at Akron City Summa hospital.

I CALLED SEVERAL TIMES TO MEDICAL RECORDS TO GET RECORDS FOR OUR PATIENT AND NEVER GOT A RETURN CALL.

Horrible hospital, rude staff, inexperienced nurses who are mean and rude and treat u like a number and not human... They are Not professional and provide little to no help to patients in need or pain.. This has been my worst experience at this hospital and this will definitely be my last visit here!!!!!! I will be going to another hospital for any future care

I gave birth here choosing this over Akron general. I regret it strongly. Soon as i walked in this place being in labor I was told incorrect info and one nurse said this another said that. I gave birth and had a beautiful room. Spacious new ..which is why I partly chose this hospital. The day I was discharged my son had to stay to be evaluated a few days. They moved me and him into a conference room..tiny ..no TV...no bathroom..no bed..no nothing..not even a dimming light to use at night. So my newborn who needs special attention can't relax at night wiithout is being too bright or pitch black. I literally brought stuff from my home to the hospital because they can't or don't have it. The whole reason we moved rooms was supposbaky because they were too full. I was told I'd be in a room with my son caring for him until he was discharged. I'm a breast feeding mother and having to try to bond with my child and breast feed him in a chair isn't working out. I have to leave my child each time I need to use the restroom because I'm on a conference room. This isn't even a room. There is no room number. Just a box with a chair and a baby bed. It's sad. I can take better care of him at my home if they would let him go home to be loved for and taken care of properly instead of in a conference room. Never again will I ever come to summa ever. I would never recommend it. It's all lies after lies. Zero star!!!!

Summa Akron City Hospital Labor & Delivery restored my faith in hospitals for birth! My wife and I had a homebirth where my wife labored for 24 hours and ultimately needed to go to the hospital where we were pretty afraid that the care would be disconnected and dollars and drugs-oriented. Although we did ultimately need a C-section surgery, the staff was exceptionally thorough and pursuing natural options with skillful diagnostics and good judgment. We really felt as much at home as one could in a hospital with the caring room service and well informed and personable nurses. We will not hesitate to choose this hospital again and we recommend them strongly.

I say... What on earth is wrong with all these selfish people leaving negative reviews? Did they just not get handed the drugs they wanted or something? Jeeze. I go here on a regular basis, they are friendly and treat me well each time. Well one day my gall bladder started to fail without me understanding what it was. I will admit it took multiple emergency visits and begging in the ER for doctors to find out why I was so sick and in severe pain. After my fourth visit, they did a scan. They found a stone lodged in one of my ducts and it was five times its natural size. I couldn't eat, my digestive fluids kept backing up, I vomited and number two-ed a pure green liquid due to this blockage. I would have starved to death, and the pain, it felt like a spear was shoved through my chest to my spine. The doctors swiftly took action. They were excellent at keeping my pain to a minimum before and after my surgery. They comforted me before the gas to knock me out, I didn't even realize I was asleep till I woke in the recovery room with my family around me. I had four brand new scars to remind me that modern science and medicine saved my life and let me live past age 21. I'm 22 now and healthy as ever. This one nurse was such a sweet heart... She kept handing me apple juice knowing that I enjoyed the first one! It was quiet at night, had free WiFi and television, hot meals... What more could you ask for?! I am so grateful Summa. You saved my life, and soothed that awful pain. It's as if it never happened to me, but I will always remember your service.

HopelessDreamer96

We recently visited last night cause my mom was having problems and they did blood work and an IV and we waited 2 1/2 hours for the test results to come back and at 3:45 we were told we were gonna get discharged and it took them awhile to get us discharged

I was sent to Akron General Hospital, but they didn't know what they were doing I had the best medical insurance money could buy. Hummana Gold Medicare Gap and Medicare. I was too sick to know why they sending me to Akron City. I had just been in Akron General for a major surgery so knew they took my insurance. But the insurance lady was 18 and sure of herself. Best thing for me The rooms were clean. They have actual food at City you can eat. The staff was kind, caring and helpful. I was in shock from my experience at Akron General. How do I sign up for Summa Physicans?

Amazing architecture

We took my mother to university hospital portage medical center with symptoms of a stroke ( loss of vision, numbness and zero movements of her right arm and right leg, head pain and seizures ) and they treated her very poorly. Literally told us she was making it all up and acting out word for word told me I was “feeding into her behavior “. They watched her have a seizure and did nothing just told us to let her do it and left the room after only being there for less than 30 seconds. A nurse actually pinched her at one point. When we spoke up about the neglect and mistreatments they kicked us out. We brung her to summa 5 days later because she was still symptomatic and wasn’t improving and had more seizures at home. They have tested and tested and are treating her amazing. They were quick, punctual, polite and very compassionate! They ran more test in 3 hours than UH did in the 11 and 1/2 hours they had her in emergency before moving her to a room. They’re a great facility to bring your loved one too and you can expect to receive exceptional hospitality and care. Thank you summa for not giving up!

Trish D

My 94 year old mother was brought in by ambulance for a fall and has been waiting since 1:15 to be seen and x rays taken. Pain meds not given. This is unacceptable. I am very disappointed in this hospital and wii be posting this on facebook.

Travontae Thomas

Doctors are nice but in the ER I ask to get ice for my fiancé and I have been waiting for more then a half hour for ice like really and they are not even busy man I can’t believe these people make more then half of our military I go to a military hospital which is way more packed and I am treated way better like come on

Aletha Harris-beasley

my mother is currently on 5th floor for what? we are unknown...she was brought in by ems with suspected stroke. but after er doctor reported she has uti, congested heart, fluid in lungs, respiratory infection and stroke..we move upstairs and it now has changed to pneumonia and a small amount of bacteria in her urine...her alert response has decreased since she was admitted now her vitals are lowering...we have been rotating shifts just to speak to a doctor who has not been seen by us and was asked to call family if not in room when return....it has been 2 days and we are still awaiting call! not knowing what is going on not getting any clear information no respect for contacting family to give answers is very unprofessional as much as i have been trying to be patient it is definitely growing thin...the nurses have been more of a help than doctor has....really considering to take her up out of here!

Jenn Sikora

Was an employee here for only 6 months. My employment got terminated for a bogus reason. The staff here doesnt care about their employees if you have a disability and things come up that are out of your control HR does not care. I loved my job there and wish I wasnt made to leave.

Heather Eisentrout

I had surgery yesterday Doctor Rooney did an amazing job. Him and his staff of nurses made me feel so comfortable and I was treated so well. Best experience I ever had. So blessed to have these talented caring doctors nurses and pre testing staff help me.

Sherianna Griffin

I have never sat in an ER THIS LONG U WILL DIE AND THEN THEY WILL CALL U BACK

Seth Sharp

I have never been to a hospital so unorganized in my life. On three different occasions with three different departments we were given the wrong time for an appointment. The paperwork we received states a time and once we arrive we are told different. Even one of the departments said that the hospital is having scheduling issues. So why should I continue our care here?

Diane Stella

had surgery. left non dissolving stitches in. got infected, called 3 x's. Nurse made up a story three weeks later and said even another nurse remembered my call (Really). They directed me to Summa Lake Medina. 975.00 just for the room, didn't sit in the bed, didn't get a bandage, didn't get anything. Rip off.

DANA WARREN

They don't get enough credit for their diligent efforts for health

Tim James

I found the care by the doctors and nurses to be exceptional. Jen in the emergency department has no peer and truly is beyond reproach. The other nurses on staff were outstanding especially those on the 5th floor of H Tower. Special accolades and sincere thanks to Mandy, Chad, Josh, CayCee & Caitlin! As for the bad, the problem with Akron City Hospital is that it USA hodgepodge of buildings built at different times and for different uses. Many have been repurposed but all are cobbled together using narrow, long, and ridiculous corridors that require transport to push patients through numerous security doors etc... from the new H Tower to the older sections that possess all the testing and treatment facilities. It took 20 minutes to go from the ER to my room in H Tower. I had to have a test in the vascular lab and again a 20 minute trip to the other side of the campus thru the operating room corridor. I then after taking a 15 minute test waited for almost an hour and a half for another transporter to push me the some 20 minutes back to my room. This is ridiculous.

DR. Girard and her team were the most helpful wonderful health care providers ive ever had. I wish Dr. Girard could be my personal docter forever <3

Your plastic surgeon department needs a attitude adjustment

Kaylea B.

ICU staff was absolutely amazing, and treated my family and the patient great. However very disappointed with the Residents. Not all were bad but a couple of the males had no bedside manner and weren’t competent enough to know basic skills that should be done when touching the patient. As far as I’m concerned they should NOT be in rooms without their senior or DR. In the room with them. Patient should have more of a say if they want the resident participating in their care in my opinion. Update: I lost my grandma today because the icu thought she would be doing fine. after being re-admitted 4 times she has finally been finished off by them. Although I know the staff in the icu did everything for her during her stay, this “learning hospital” sure did run all their experiments on her. I don’t blame anyone... but the goal as a hospital should be to limit re-admissions, however when you send them off as fast as you can before they’re ready... you set yourself up for that. Not that anyone cares but my grandma should be with me right now and she’s not... she was re-admitted.

Stephanie Pitz

The ER does not know what they're even doing. Go to general not city. Put me in a uncleaned room with blood on the floor from the last patient. Didnt have me on the correct floor. Then said I need unnecessary testing. Went to a new floor and they sent me home with no testing. Sat in my own urine for 45 minutes of asking for new sheets 3 times to the doctor and nurse. While giving me attitude because I urinated when I threw up.... really professional guys. Good job

Susan DOUGLAS

Awesome..... nurses were the best

THIS HOSPITAL KILLS PEOPLE . Do NOT stop here even if you are DYING !!!

Jenny Edmunds

Just got admitted - it's the ONLY hospital I go to. They are great. From hskp to the docs everyone is caring.

Anton Allensworth Cannaday

IF YOU HAVE AN OPTION, DON'T GO!!! I had a surgery performed there, while the support staff were awesome the surgeon was worthless--I had to have 7 appointments with University Hospital to clean up his mess. There's a reason they lost their accreditation.

Jack Hart

Great staff very friendly, I feel well taken care of

I was taken to akron city hospital on may 23 2017 with pancreatitis. I was septic, had ARDS, lung failure, kidney damage, and i flat lined upon arrival. I was on life support for 12 days and ECMO for 8 days. ECMO is where they remove the blood from your body, add oxygen and put it back in. I was released on june 12th and I will make a full recovery. From death to life in 3 weeks. The doctors and nurses are absolutely amazing. They kept my family up to date every step of the way and i had 2 nurses in my room at all times. I believe with some help from God, the staff there saved my life. I will be eternally greatful.

I took my 20 year old daughter to this Er last night for chest pain, arm and leg numbness at 10pm. After 1 1/2 hours they took her vitals. An hour later they did a chest xray then 30 mins after that they drew blood. We were told that an ekg was also ordered. 230am and we were still sitting there. We were talked to briefly by a nurse practitioner, that's it. We never spoke to a dr, she never heard anything of the tests that were taken and never received the ekg. We finally got up and left. To say i was upset is an understatement. The entire experience was horrible. We will NEVER go there again! They're closest to my home but we'll be driving right past next time. They're doing all of this building, adding on and meanwhile the services you receive there are less than mediocre. Akron City you really need to do better.

Barbara Aponte

I left my purse in the Firestone auditorium and realized it an hour and a half later and some hours drive from Summa. Protective services went and found it as soon as I called and kept it for me for two days until I could return. I had quite a bit of money in it and it was all there. Thank you SUMMA!

Melissa Dewitt

I had my daughter here. I has major surgery here & I was treated fantastic. It's a hospital. Loud patients and the hustle & bustle is what a hospital is. We are there to be helped - yeah food might not be what it is outside but it is a hospital. Everyone does their best & patients come first. Thank you for taking care of me and allowing me to repay the kindness.

Rachelle

Very professional, concerned staff who put the patient first and also show concern for the family as a whole. Summa City Hospital has the best care I have experienced. All the staff from room service, transportation, nursing staff, and doctors all are very interested in the welfare of the patient. Facility is clean and well maintained with the most up to date equipment and knowledgeable staff. I know my family is in good hands in this hospital and I can rest easy.

Lisa Mathena

I come to the ER here approximately every 2 weeks because I get really sick from chemo. My immune system gets dangerously low. As soon as they see my vital signs, they notice it is an emergency situation. It helps tremendously if you have your doc call hospital to tell them your situation and that you are on your way. I am taken right back and treatment is started. Within 4 hrs I'm in ICU and on the road to recovery. I am a patient at the hospital. So they know my past history. Not 1 ER is perfect but this on is the closest to perfect I can find. The hospital and staff in the hospital are caring and very knowledgeable.

Jason Ramey

The staff was great an got me out with in 45 minutes. Very caring.

Tiffany Preston

The worst hospital I've ever been in! The nurses are neglectful and lack communication skills. They left used cotton balls covered in blood and used gloves on the counter. They are rude and more entertained by their phones rather then patients machines needing attention. The meat provided is disgusting, it's either over cooked or too dry. The public bathrooms are filthy and the sheets on the bed are not cleaned regularly. There was blood on the pillow case and blanket neither of which was replaced with clean ones. The rooms are small leaving little room for visitors and employees to move around. There is only a small hand full of nurses that know how to do their jobs. The janitors are nicer and more attentive then most of these nurses and helpers. If you want good care go else where!!

NICOLE C.

I had both of my children here and I had wonderful experiences both times.

Sheila Cumberlidge

Came in Thursday morning everyone in emergency rooms were wonderful help in icu room 326 Katie Patrick and all others were great!! Transford to room 741 b have been asking for pain med and sleep pills since 630pm!

Dee Dearth

They never are organized they never give you medicine on time then you have to take IV medicine to get rid of the pain and they don’t let you go home because you’re still an IV medicine

Ivy Lane

They put me in the smallest bathroom I'VE EVER BEEN IN in and I'm almost 6 months pregnant I can't even turn around in it without bumping into things!! Ive been here for almost 19 hours, its 12am and just now getting my pm medications! They just added a medication and didn't even tell me they were adding it in with my normal medications in fact the nurse said they were ALL MY NORMAL AT HOME MEDS!! No I've never taken it before and it has a pregnancy risk of a C!! ALL THIS WITHOUT TELLING OR ASKING ME!! I've refused this medicine till someone explains it to me and i can use informed consent to CHOOSE TO TAKE IT!! I sat in the er for almost 12 hours before I was taken to my room. After I was taken to my room I was told the floor nurses weren't told I was coming AND THAT THEY WEREN'T TOLD I'M PREGNANT!! They then changed me into a different room an hour latter that is the oldest, smallest room I've EVER been in!! This room also has NO working THERMOSTAT AND ITS BOILING!

Hanna Tobias

I can’t speak highly enough regarding my experience. From the moment I was on my way and had to call the head nurse, until the moment they were pushing me out in the wheel chair everyone was kind, engaging, patient, and professional. Despite the circumstances this was a great experience.

Justine DeVorss

The radiology department lost my ultrasound order and made me late to work, and after everything was said and done the billing department is unwilling to let you settle your debt. They explain they the contractual rate between them and my insurance company is already a "discount," which is preposterous. For an industry with an average recovery rate of 15.3%, you would think me offering to pay 80% of my balance NOW would be appealing. I guess they prefer slow payers?

Hattie Hughes

I was feeling bad and I went to City hospital which I sit in the chair for almost 5 hours in the waiting area I had got really faint and a very nice nurse he got me some oxygen and gave me some oxygen will then when I went to the back I'm in a room right now that has five chairs not in a bed but in your room I been here since 6 6 hours feeling bad and sitting in something this more uncomfortable than a kitchen chair kitchen table chair this needs to be a really good hospital I don't know what has happened to it but it's down down down

Tato Olmo

Went to Ohio for my son's youth football invitational at the hall of fame. My Wife was 38 months pregnant (big risk lol) at the time. Her water broke the first day at Ohio (we are from NY), we looked up this hospital and saw mixed reviews. After more research, we decided to give it a try. It was 7am on a Saturday morning and the hospital was deserted (remember we are from NY). We were nervous and didn't know what to expect. We met an RN (Carol), we explained our situation, she was surprised but very cooperative and helpful. The nurses determined that it was time for labor. We were transferred to the labor room, huge room, very very clean. My wife gave birth at 12:32pm to a healthy baby boy. The hospital staff was very excited and professional during the delivery. After a few hours, we were transferred up to the post labor room. Again, this room was also very nice and clean. The food was fresh and healthy. Options were endless. The nursing staff was AMAZING, from Danielle and Adriana (labor and delivery) to Louann and Linda (Post Partum). Overall it was a great Hospital experience.

Jorden Cuffy

This hospital was horrible. I went to the ER because ive been extremely dizzy, light headed, and have migraines since i got my IUD in....not one time did the check my IUD they took urine and blood tests told me that everything came back negative. ..not even a ct scan since all my symptoms are in my head and told me that my IUD shouldnt still be making me feel like this and let me go with no diagnosis after 5 1/2hrs of being there....on top of that by the time they let me go it was 1:30am and the buses stopped running i asked for a phone so i could get a ride but they never gave me one so they made me walk all the way back home with my 1yr old which is about 3 miles away!!!! I also asked for a blanket i was told the nurse was going to get me one but it never came and then he went home. I will never go back there again!!!!

Siy'Airre Williams

Horrible experience. Skid row hospital. Catty staff. Unorganized.

From the emergency department to the intensive care unit (T3), all of the medical staff did an awesome job in caring for my father. The physicians & nurses not only were knowledgable & trustworthy, but they had amazing bedside manners.

Lisa M

Where do I begin with how much I despise the doctors that “took care” of my father on the Acute Care Elderly floor of Akron City. Don’t send your loved ones there. I suspect the quick decision to designate my father for Hospice has something to do with this hospital’s score for Medicare and money. It won’t effect their bottom line if they designate him for hospice and he dies within thirty days. They probably didn’t think I was smart enough to know about that. My father was written off by his supposed medical team from day one. We had to beg for treatment. The constant push for hospice was palpable. His doctors never called us to tell us about his treatment plan. The only thing they cared about was the ability to give Ativan. We always called them first. Arrogant is a good way to describe his care team. My dad clearly was suffering from neurolyptic malignant syndrome from medications. He came out of it and slowly recovered. We had to keep saying..please give him time. Let him come out of it before you write him off. On numerous occasions, I found my dad naked sitting in his own urine without a mat under him. He was never dressed, bathed, shaved, or had his teeth brushed. My sister had to do it. She went up there daily, because of his lack of care. We feared he would never be fed. My dad was also given Ativan in order to take vitals. Vitals that could have been taken later. It caused him to sleep all day and could not be fed by my sister. One of the nurses, Dee, was sitting on the computer the whole time and never checked on my dad within the two or three hour period we were there. Once my dad came out of his state, they wanted to pull his IV right away. He was only eating little by little. This is why an”ethics committee” was called. We wanted the IV and his supposed doctor did not. Pulled it without a blood test to determine whether he was dehydrated. The ethics committee is a JOKE. Doctors from the same hospital reviewing their fellow doctors is unethical. It was not their decisions to pull that without our consent. POA means nothing. We were not invited to the ethics meeting either. Our input was not asked for nor what my father would want. The ethics committee was still involved even to the point of discharge. The discharge doctor let that slip. He also said the “ hospital feels the family is dragging their feet about placement.” That is freaking rude. I thought we were customers there. There was no set date for discharge and we were waiting on the social worker. I would not want my dog to stay at this hospital. Where is my apology? I see other people got one.

Marianna Ashley

Rating one star because I can’t rate zero. I can’t even explain how ABSOLUTELY AWFUL my experience was. My boyfriend had a simple ear infection, something he’s had multiple times and never took more than an hour to get treated. WE WERE THERE FOR SIX HOURS AND WERE NEVER SEEN BY A DOCTOR. We ended up leaving after 6 hours of waiting at 6am untreated and very upset.

Chastedy Lesher

I had to wait 2 in a half hours to be seen but we where not seen at all by a doctor.

Taylor Elizabeth

My boyfriend and I waited in the EMERGENCY waiting room almost 2 and a half hours, he has an abscess tooth and he was screaming in pain. The bathroom was trashed, there was toilet paper and used feminine products on the ground. When we got pulled back finally we waited another hour to be seen by the Doctor. The blanket provided for us was stained. We had Dr. Biersbach, he went to give my boyfriend a dental block and when he went to inject him in his mouth he stabbed him in the lip. When he exited the room he left all the equipment lying on the counter with open containers. Not impressed with the service of this hospital and I would NOT recommend to my family and friends and definitely not even a stranger. TERRIBLE. Lousy service from your sign in staff, lousy service from your nurses, & lousy service from your Doctor. We got more help from ONE lovely woman, than we did your doctor. AND SHE WAS ONLY REGISTRATION. Find more people who are actually passionate about what they do rather than someone that is just there for the paycheck. Your nurses were even pushing each other back and forth on your hallways! Says so much about how serious they are about their job. 08/01/2017

Darlene Freeman

They have taken great care of my Mother. She was seen promptly and give the best of care in ICU. Thank you Summa

anonymous

I got a plate a potatoes grotten I guess is what they call it. And It tasted so darn bland. And they said they have melted cheese on them, and it tasted really really bland. You workers need to do a better job making your food. I mean good grief. No wonder why you only have only hospital staff members eating them. And your attitude with your food service sucked like the rest of the hospital staff nurses. I mean the nurses have the worst bed side manners. And not only do they have worst bed side manners but, they absolute have no excellent people skill. I mean people who work at low paying jobs such as McDonald's can provide excellent customer service than you nurses. And please hospital authority, we are all begging you to replace those nurses with the new ones. Please! And this is one reason why no body has anywhere else to go for hospital except for going to you guys for support. I mean we are all in need help and this kind of service is what we get! And stop being on your phone's and do your job instead of being on your phone and chit chatting with your "nurse friends". And if you nurses are going to play around them don't even come to work. "Hanging around with your friends" is for outside activities to do. And you have absolute no sympathy towards your patients and their families. So it's time to straighten up and do your job correctly so that all you nurses don't lose your patients and their family or their friends.

Victoria Fink

Their surgery center & team are the best all around. I've had 53 surgeries all over the state of Ohio since I was 12yrs old!! Bad Car accident. I go to St. Thomas also but only for surgery involving north coast orthopedic dept. everything else is akron city now Summa. If I have to b admitted I only go to city!! Great staff & amazing food that I can order anytime. Thanx Akron City for all you do!!

Ray Y

Summa's billing department is incredibly incompetent. I strongly recommend going ANYWHERE ELSE.
