This review is for the 6th floor. My grandmother was in and out of the hospital fighting cancer for a couple of years here.
In general, the bedside manner/care of the staff as a whole was very fair. My favorite was “Tamaura”, I’m sure I spelled her name wrong, but she was always so sweet to my grandmother and very patient with her each time she was there. My grandmother was very susceptible to hospital-induced delirium. God bless her and I want to thank her so much.
But what pushed me to write this review was a nursing assistant there, whom if I could go back in time, I would have banned from the room. She had the worse bedside manner and always seemed annoyed and overwhelmed. I always felt a bad vibe around her. I think she said she was currently in nursing school. I think her name was “Katie”.
The last day my grandmother was there, 9/26/18, she was having trouble eating and didn’t want to open her mouth. She had developed dementia very quickly. I was in and out of her room that day and I had returned from the cafeteria and ”Katie” was trying to brush my grandmother’s teeth and I’m sure my grandmother was resisting and I walked in and saw that her mouth was bleeding and she was upset. I told them to stop. After that, my grandmother didn’t speak nor willingly opened her mouth anymore until she died.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think Katie tried to harm my Grandma. I just don’t think she possesses the empathy and understanding that profession requires. Only so much of it can be taught.
