I work there sooo.....

I can't express how much this hospital has done for our family. They are so caring and helpful. They treat my mom awesome and I know that while she is getting her cancer treatments she is finally in great hands.

Jenny Crisostomo

Honestly, I'm very appreciative to the team members at Duke that saved my child. Staff is amazing. Especially the team members and nurses from the orthopedic surgery and PICU. They are truly the greatest! They made my child's stay comfortable and fun while he was in so much pain. We love you all from the bottom of our hearts and God Bless!!!

Brittany Beverly

Gotta love the place that pays the bills.

Canaan Grant

I'm sure the care is fine but the "Security" is garbage. Rude, unhelpful, didn't answer any questions, as if they couldn't even pretend to care.

Danyelle Simmons-Poteat

Awesome care, great facility

Nina Guthrie

I haven’t been to Duke Hospital but would like to have their opinion on a problem I have .. I am suppose to have surgery next week

Best hospital on this side of North Carolina

I called your hospital tonight to speak to the pediatric pulmonlogist on call only to be asked who my child's doctor is there. Well, due to you guys not having doctors for your CF patients the operator informed me that I needed to call his pediatrician. She refused to put me through and when I asked to speak to her supervisor she left me on hold. I called back and talked to "Freddie" another female operator only to be told the entire same story. Again I asked to talk to a supervisor at which time she hung up on me. Duke, you are letting your CF children down. It's like you have swept them under the rug. When are you going to hire more doctors to help our children? Apparently you, like other hospitals have chosen to treat your CF patients like a number instead of individuals. What is the problem??? Get your act together for the safety and we'll being of our children. Also get your operators to UNDERSTAND there is NO CF doctor right now and to stop turning calls away. No worries we took him to the local ER which is where we are currently sitting due to a "protocol" that could not be got around due to lack of communication on your part. Your care at your hospital is going down ... maybe it's time for whoever is in charge to be replaced and get someone in there that can fix this situation that has been broken for some time. ~S. House~

Helpful professional experience staff who can help you find out what you need

Amanda Wyatt

Waiting for 14 hours to been seen and still ain't been seen. Brought my mom here by ambulance and they brought her to the waiting room unbelievable. This is the sarriest hospital I've ever seen....

Marek K

I attended holiday art show promoting local artisans, displaying and selling their creations.

Britni Minnich

Communication is horrible. If I could give a zero I would. Never again will I go.

Frank Jackson

Had internal bleeding waited 2 hours in the waiting room with no meds. When we asked the staff what's the hold up and that I am in extreme pain they stated that I have to wait for a doctor before I can get anything . What's the point of an ER of no one is acting like things are an emergency . They prioritized Flu patients over everything else . Ended up going to Wake med were they know how to take care of you. I can not recommend this hospital of you are going to the ER.

Yolanda Chisolm

Great place. Very attentive to my son. They spoil him rotten and make sure he's not in pain and comfortable. This staff and doctors are knowledgeable and caring. The food could use a little work.

Jailyn Gales

Highly disappointed in the call centers service. I have called the family practice office in Durham over ten times to schedule an appointment, and was hung up on each time.

I had my first child here at duke. I loved it! THEN !! But as I’m almost 39 weeks and have been sent home twice , being 5 cm dilated , leaking fluids and contractions . The first day I got sent home I had already been admitted into the hospital and was in my delivery room. But they swore my body wasn’t reacting to labor as it should. This has become another Wake Med to me. I am so furious with the doctors and nurses here I will not be returning . I was planning my birth here but not anymore . I cannot take being sent home which is 45 minutes away. To hear the same old stuff every time . It’s pure ridiculous... I’m done and over duke. Please go elsewhere if you have serious health problems especially being pregnant . I strongly encourage to go elsewhere .

Great mlm nurses

I was transferred here from UNC Chapel hill during the beginning of May 2016 to avoid being transferred to Holly Hill. My experience here was relatively decent but I also had negative experiences with other patients. For instance, I had the chance to interact with a few people who shared similar interests but there was also a woman who claims she suffered from various issues who decided to spitefully treat me like a child because of the mention of my interests and because of my style of self-expression, frequently calling me a kid and a variety of other things which I won't elaborate on. There was also a nurse who laughed at my stims which are apart of my disorder symptoms. I reported that to a few of the other nurses but they claim they will do something about it when it's obvious they won't. I am only giving this 2 stars.

Staff was amazing, quick and responsive. On the other had, had a group of African Americans cussing, and fighting, and causing a mini riot, while security stood around doing nothing. Just pathetic! My mother is 83, and I had to stand up and in front of her in case they decided to start throwing chairs and moving the fight towards my family. Duke really needs to start tossing people out who can not respect others in the ER waiting room. Again, just pathetic on Duke Security.

Taken to Duke Emergency due to extreme pain in my right calf -the kind of pain that covers you in sweat, I was given intravenous pain killer. I think they did a few tests. I don't know for sure - the pain killer knocked me out. At about 5 AM, they told me I needed to leave. With pain so extreme it took me half an hour to walk to the VA Emergency room - a hundred yards away. The VA called Duke - who apparently told them I was faking, and got no treatment. The next day my leg started turning purple from groin to knee. I had a massive blood vessel rupture. I was later able to estimate that I had lost 2 units of blood, and could easily bled out. Perhaps it was because I am Hispanic. Perhaps it was because I was dressed in dirty work clothes. Perhaps it was because the pain was so bad that the doctors did not believe me. Whatever the cause, this particular visit rated a grade of "F".

My fiance has been here for almost 3 weeks and had sugary on his lung. The Staff, Dr's, Nurses, Specialists, everyone we have came in contact with has been amazing!! Everyone is super, friendly, helpful and take the time to explain what's going on thoroughly. Also very clean and sanitary. He has got amazing treatment from the minute we walked into the E.R. Best hospital I've had to deal with ever! I know if we have ANY issues in the future we will be taking the extra 45 min drive and coming here instead of going to the hospital in Roxboro!

Duke holds such a high reputation. But, to see them hire a CMA like Nellie Rosa Villegas is quiet disturbing. It speaks a lot about their HR department and now poorly they chose employees. Be aware !

Chael Michelle

If your dying you better off taking your chances driving pass this hospital and making it to raleigh.

Arnold Higgens

The Doctors in Mental Health treated me like crap. They only treated their precious Duke students with Superior care. Never wanna go back again

al king

U took down the PRT system in '09 to expand some stupid building, stupid short sighted people! It was a one of a kind system that ran on a bed of air ya stupid morons!

Sierra Hankerson

Never again will I go to Duke Emergency room. I waited for 8 hours to get a room and left because they kept telling me I had a while longer to wait. I refused to sit there until the next day. They allowed homeless people to loiter inside the building, and sleep on the floor in the lobby. They were belligerent towards staff and others waiting. It was a horrible experience. Several people waiting were also upset by the smells and dirtiness of the homeless people sitting with us; who btw had no obvious need for help. Just needed a place to sleep. The bathrooms were dirty and not well kept. I just never seen anything like it. The one thing I will say, they provided warm blankets for all who wanted one. But as far as treating people for pain and sickness in a quick manner, they’re horrible. Lots of patients including myself was very upset because they didn’t seem to care about the issues that we all had. I will never seek emergency attention from this place again.

This hospital is wonderful I’ve been seeing a MS specialist for almost 2 years their He is awesome.. But when it comes to the ER they suck unprofessional, they say one thing and do another. I arrived yesterday with numbness in my face on my right side got to the hospital at 2:30 I didn’t get back in a room until6:00 I didn’t leave until 11:30 I’m in Nursing school currently and I would have never had thought Duke ER department would be so poorly ran, I even asked to speak to the charge nurse and she as well didn’t have a clue of proper procedure. I will be notifying My doctor as soon as he gets back in the office I will let him know I will not be returning back to the duke ER but I would love to continue with him.

Brian Tomlinson

Duke hospital is far less than I expected. My father went in for extreme chest and head pain. After finding he was okay to be treated no one fed him for almost 48 hours even after being reminded several times by my step mother. I have found more competant staff and communicators at cell phone and fast food chains.

Mreverything919

My girlfriend recently had a baby and the nurses were great daily... They were very hospitable and made her feel very comfortable around the clock

Rodney Hunter

My wife came in with a rare conditions due to allergic reaction to some meds and the doctor did everything to make sure we were cured before we were discharged..the nurses were awesome as well. I thank God for allowing to be there this pass weekend. Thank you to the entire Duke University Hospital staff. God bless you all

Abdelhalim Loukil

The emergency department is pretty good. The medical records is not responsive or easy to contact.

Sarah Parker

Been coming here since my son was hospitalized in July of 2016 when he was 3 months old and they have always taken great care of him and will continue to do so. I recommend this place to everyone.

I recently spent 4 days at the Duke Cardiac Unit visiting a relative. First I want to say that I found the patient care impeccable and second to no other hospital that have I ever visited. However, the Men's rooms were horrible. The urinals are so shallow that urine splashes on to the floor and there are puddles under each and every urinal. The floors are sticky and filthy. I was in 5 different Men's rooms and could not find a clean one (1st floor and 7th floor). It is impossible to walk out of the Men's room without having urine on the bottoms of your shoes and tracking it onto the carpet. What a filthy situation, especially for such an otherwise fine hospital. Worse yet, the cleaning staff went by every morning and never mopped the floors. There wasn't even a mop on the cart. The staff person went in for a few moments and then walked to the next rest room. This is a failure that should have the immediate attention of the maintenance chief.

Best hospital in the state of North Carolina period! I've had loved ones that's had surgeries here and every one of them went beautifully with no problems whatsoever. You will find the best doctors and nurse's in the country and definitely in the state of North Carolina at this hospital. All the nurse's and doctors here make your stay the best possible stay of any hospital. Before my dad passed away he had chronic heart problems and they put stents in first but it didn't solve the problems but lastly they did an open heart quintuple bypass surgery which is an extremely complex and complicated surgery but it solved the problems that he was having for the rest of his life and this is the only hospital he trusted for his health and I am the same way. My uncle also had esophageal cancer and he had to get an extremely complex surgery where a doctor had to remove part of his esophagus that had the cancer in it and raise his stomach up and shorten his esophagus and his surgery went extremely well. The heart and eye specialists alone here are among the best in the world not to mention the unparalleled specialists in other categories. I always go here for any medical issue and this is the only hospital I trust with my health. I definitely recommend that anybody else come here as well for any medical reason because you will receive the best care possible.

Dana Stone

Had a knee replacement there and the entire experience was smooth and professional from the moment I entered. The nurses who tended to me prior to surgery were fantastic, as were the doctors who administered the anesthesia. In fact, one was from England and had a dry wit that left me in stitches. Finally, the surgeon (Dr. Jiranek) was a godsend, having a specialty in my area of concern. His kindness and skill made a huge difference. Everyone on my hall, from the nurses, to PT, to the transporters, were wonderful. A special nod to Katie, who took such good care of me, and to Sabrina, the dedicated physical therapist, who had me on my feet right away.

Armando Dunn

Third best hospital in the USA. Excellent!

Matt De Troye

Got in an auto accident and waited 6 hours before being seen! Front personel was rude and not careful with my sprained hand. Would not recommend this hospital to anyone.

2012ctx

The worst. I'm been waiting here for more than 4 hours. My partner is in horrible pain to the point she's in tears. What kind of hospital makes their patients wait for hours?! I had a friend who was almost at risk of losing her her baby wait 12 hours before a nurse or anyone got to see her. This ridiculous!! I hate to see my partner suffer through her pain waiting to be seen. This has to stop!!! This long waiting is utterly unprofessional and careless. This is a hospital for god sakes. People need to be seen ASAP!!!

If you are very sick like my husband was, then by all means go to Duke. The doctors, nurses and all the staff are exceptional. I don't believe he would have survived had we not left another hospital and went to Duke. Everyone in the hospital was so kind and caring.

C S

My son was admitted into the children's ward for a bleeding ulcer. I could not have asked for better care of my son and them making sure i was comfortable while i stayed with him for three days.Very frienly, caring, nurses and staff. Thank you very much.

Thinking about having a baby here? You might want to look into other options (gross understatement). My wife and I had a terrible experience. First off, when we asked what the rate of caesarean sections was here, a nurse told us that over 80% of the pregnancies resulted in vaginal births. I assumed they were being truthful and didn't think much of it. Hold that thought. We show up at the hospital for a scheduled induction and everything seemed fine at first. Then things just progressively got worse. The room they put us in had this brown, sticky substance on the floor and on the bed reserved for the husband. I was a bit put off that it wasn’t cleaned up before we came in and I was forced to personally clean it up with wet wipes. It just didn’t “feel” sanitary. My wife requested vegetarian food trays and tray after tray contained beef broth. She was stuck at 5cm dilation for longer than expected and the doctor mentioned the possibility of a caesarean section more than once. I thought "This is ridiculous, right on wikipedia it says the induction drugs can take up to 48~72 hours to work." It had not even been 24 hours before the possibility caesarean was mentioned. It felt like my wife was being coerced into doing a caesarean when she was clearly adamant about having a vaginal delivery. Luckily the vaginal birth was successful after 47 hours of induction... I feel like just 1 more hour and they would have tried to force her into the operating room. Then, just hours after giving birth, they rushed her off to another room to recover. Then they forgot to bring her lunch after being in labor for 47 hours. I called the help line to see what the hold up was, and they apologized saying they would send food up right away. 1 hour passes. I call again, and they claim they never got the request to bring lunch in the first place, which made me furious. They once again apologized, saying they found the order, and said they would send it right up. The food never came. I ended up running down to the cafeteria and buying a bunch of food for my starving wife. Then, when the food finally started coming on a regular schedule, it was never vegetarian as requested. Absolutely appalling. The people running in and out had little or no respect for my wife's modesty, and interruptions seemed needlessly frequent. The only redeeming quality is that half the nurses were quite good and very supportive... But the other half were quite bad, borderline rude and totally unsupportive. We had to wait 5 additional hours after the scheduled discharge time for no apparent reason, it's like they just forgot about us. After we got home, I did a bit of research. Remember the 80% vaginal births number? Turns out it was a complete lie. This hospital has a 34% caesarean section rate for first time mothers with low risk pregnancies. That means more than 1 in 3 first time mothers get a caesarean here, which is a horrifying figure if you think about it. It's like this hospital is a caesarean conveyor belt. The system at this hospital is completely broken, my wife and I will never come here again.

Not "great" not worst...certainly not in the top. Boston is better...UNC is better and they are the worst

Sandra Sancilio

Everyone is very friendly. We had no idea where we needed to go and the information desk folks helped set us straight.

David Mckerney

Rude, lazy, and selfish nursing staff. Rudeness is in no short supply. Staff appears, is incapable of communicating.

Tim

My dad is on another bout of cancer.. This time a full sternum split. (My dad will complain about everything under the sun.. But he doesn't say a word about Duke except paying to park lol) Duke has been wonderful during this time.. To read others so called complaints.. OK yes it's a hospital with doctors in training.. People we know this.. They have to go to school somewhere and learn.. To wait and complain.. Cmon what hospital is there no waiting. ? Please let others know.. We all are going to have complaints because as humans we complain. I'm thankful too Duke for giving me more time with my dad.

Michael Kocian

Duke Hospital has kept me against my wishes for days after giving me drugs that i should have never been given. I had several altercations with the phycologists, management, and high up doctors. Ive been held against my will for morre then 2 days now because there mistake. I would recommend never going. Wake is way better.

Shannon Young-Rhodes

(Dr. Haywood Brown) & his Team for Prenatal Medicine & Treatment in Labor & Delivery at Duke Medical Center has been absolutely amazing and accommodating. In all of my experiences with Doctors and medical facilities they have been the absolute best. The initiative and willingness to revise my surgery due to high risk pregnancy conditions gave us more hope & faith for the future of our Child. The Staff here pulls together quickly in a professional manner. Everyone is polite and kind and their concern for you is very genuine. I am Grateful for the opportunity to experience the excellence of Duke University Hosptial.

Diane Lewis

I have never in my life have experienced issues like I have had at duke on the 6th floor. In ortho. First off I tell them I am allergic to things and they still use it and they are making me take meds that I told them I refused to take.and the biggest thing is I have laid here with a dislocated hip before for hrs and they would hardly give me pain meds at all. They even won't give me what I am suppose to be on. When I got out of surgery I was only give. A .54 mg of pain meds every 4 hrs. I also reported a nurse making fun of me because of the way I was talking. And then she covered it up bye trying to say she found pain meds on me when I hadn't had any that morning. Her name is sasha. I have never in my life been so disrespected in my life. And the ortho resident called a family member of mine without my knowledge or approval. I am in so much pain and I can't get nothing hardly. Not even getting what I am supposed to be getting ..... they don't care they want to send me home and I can't walk hardly. The physical therapist found a pill on the floor and told them it was mine. I'm sorry I didn't know you were not allowed to drop one even if it was mine. But they assumed. Guess I'm going home even though I can't take care of myself..... they sent psych Dr down here to see me cause I was mad due to them doing something wrong to me. They insisted on me getting these iv,s when my veins were blown. Now I have mrsa and they are trying to say I don't when another hospital said I did.... i am done with these people. I am gonna try and get a lawyer

Brian Stillwaugh

This Staff has been wonderful and labor delivery department. But stay away from the cafeteria! It looks like a Sysco tuck regurgitated in the cafeteria and and all the cooks only know how to cook from a bag. For shame on the Executive Chef prances around in his uniform and hat and thinks his food is great. Even when I ask the staff at the hospital they All say it's okay! The Chef needs to take a page out of Rex hospital cafeteria handbook.

Tiffany Powell

Emergency room is very slow with the services. I arrived at 1130 am and didn't get discharged until 430pm. Just ridiculous.

Haroon Ahmed

Exceptional service and staff

Bigboi 73

Staff called the police on me because of a legal matter that didn't concern them, and I was arrested.

I have been to Duke Hospital many times. Gal bladder removal, Arterial Bypass and have never had a bad experience. In 2009 I had an emergency Arterial Bypass were my foot had been dead for a couple of minutes. Dr. Robert McCan , the head of vascular surgery saved my foot when other doctors said there was no chance. Today I have my foot but am right here where I started. Because I didn't stop smoking like I was told!!!!! I'm here awaiting surgery on Monday. I am on of those who didn't do what the doctor said and I could end up losing my foot. I am praying I don't. I got here early enough. I may still have my feet when this is over but I will have scars on both of my legs. Smoking causes so many heath problems. I thought it only effected your lungs, no it effects every part of your body. If you are young and haven't started , please don't!!!! If you do smoke, quit now before it's too late.

Brian Lindquist

With the exception of parking issues (valet parking usually fills very early in the morning and the walk from the parking garage, even in handicap spaces, is something that I have jokingly referred to as a stress test for heart patients), this is by far the best run hospital that I have visited and been a patient. I am constantly amazed at the positive attitude of the workers, from the top-notch heart transplant surgeons to the maintenance staff that empties trash cans. I also have failed to ask a question that did not get an answer that I understood. Just recently, I had a question about some proposed changes to the allocation of hearts for transplant and emailed it to one of the transplant surgeons. He responded the same day. I have had similar experiences when requesting prescription refills or questions about my health that didn't require a visit to the hospital. There is a reason that the transplant department is consistently rated one of the top in the country and the hospital is included in the TOP 100 Hospital list - the staff!

Charlene Bezio

Dr. Idriss, THANK YOU. ... GREAT AT HELPING ME... IT HAS BEEN A ROAD!

If I could give this place a negative number I would because the customer service and workers sucks. If you have came here and received great service than consider yourself lucky. I would not wish this service that my elderly uncle and I received on anyone. Go somewhere else if you can.

Lulu Ela5

Literally one of the WORST ER visit of my life. Check in was very rude, I checked in at 1am & left a 7am UNCHECKED. Asked one of the nurses for a blanket he didn't respond. They have the waiting room extremely cold I left with a higher fever. And the front desk really needs to work on customer service. You guy's have sick patient's coming in and being completely rude. I would give 0 stars if I could smh.

J B

Staff is nice but ER is horrible. Waited 11 hours, they took blood but we left before results. After 11 hours and homeless people laying all over us we asks about results and we were told we were waiting on a room so they could tell me. I’ll get my regular dr to get them tomorrow. I’ll never go back there. Something has changed because it wasn’t like this 5 years ago

Diane Williams

ER is terrible. Went in by ambulance sit in front for 7hours before being called back. Neck face swollen hurting in chest pain from complex regional pain syndrome after seeing doctor said I was going through menopause. Now its 6 months with Duke doctors I have parathyroid disorder. That's this week will see when tranfersed to the 6th doctor. Durham regional no better same symptoms sent me home told me ER was only for strokes and heart attacks. Went in because I could hardly breath. Second ER trip kidney stones dying in pain I left in pain had to sweat and fight it for days on my on. This is coming from parathyroid disease. I've seen Duke doctors for years and told them of the symptoms always blown over. Today I feel I'm dying slowly no one at duke grabbing the horns and saying Hey this girl is sick. I'm helpless.

Robin Wilson

Wry nice people. Friendly and caring

Jim Horton

I give this hospital only one star because of the ER. My wife and I brought , my mother inlaw here today 7/03 at 11:30 am took a couple of hours just for someone to draw blood...we have been in the ER Corridor all this time so far 7 hrs. I've seen other patients taken before her that have only waited about an hour.they claim they go by severity.but...I, have seen and overheard what these other people came in for ,and my mother inlaw was a lot worse then some of them. Can't believe it finally at 7:20 pm brought to a room. I, will say that once the doctors and R/N attended to her they were great. I will give them a 5

Thomas Duden

Had to AMA a family member. Who got sicker from being there. The nurses are lazy and don’t do there jobs and if you complain they retaliate against you and call security and duke PD on you. You have no constitutional rights they do what ever the hospital says w/o discretion . Avoid at all cost . It like 3rs world county.

Thomas Manzo

I received fairly awful care from this facility. I would rate one star but the ER personnel were wonderful an deserve praise. There were several mistakes and oversights from the staff from my surgeon all the way to the department that handled my complaint. Their protocol is to deny deny then counter accuse you lying and being wrong. All I wanted was an acknowledgement that my situation could have been handled better. Due to mishandling of my case I had two surgeries I should not have had. In addition the nursing staff and therapy staff were unsatisfactory in many cases and truly made my condition worse than it needed to be. If I was injured again I would refuse care from this facility both their inpatient an outpatient centers are sub-par and again I had issues with almost all of the providers I encountered. I just want to note at all the other healthcare centers I dealt with following Duke I had no issues which leads me to think it is the culture they have formed there that is at fault. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

They are the beat in their knowledge of the heart and great personal experience with each doctor. Love Duke and its people there.

I had an amazingly wonderful experience with the Duke Cancer Center and Dr Stang and then all the staff for my surgery at this hospital. So a month later when I needed my gallbladder removed I immediately wanted to go back. I made an appointment with Dr Vanessa Schroder at Duke Clinic 2b-2c. She told me that Duke University Hospital does not and can not perform operations on obese patients because they do not carry the equipment. When I said I had a surgery there a month before she hesitated and said well that wasnt an abdominal surgery (keep in mind NOT ONCE did anyone say anything like this to me the previous surgery and when it came up I might also need a surgery in my abdomen along with that one it was NOT said they couldnt do it at all). She went on and said to lose weight if I wanted to do it at this hospital, not necessarily with her because she wasnt comfortable doing it. I understood she wasnt comfortable weither because she is an inexperienced Dr or because of my weight (which didnt matter because she wouldnt do it after I lost weight either), but to what she said was ridiculous. I was angry and in tears and not because, yes I am fat...duhhh I know this (had other things on my mind like having a baby, and immediately after..oh you might have cancer..which I did). But because I had been in pain for weeks waiting for this appointment, hardly keeping anything in, drove 2 hours with 2 kids, and my husband had to take off. It would have been different if I had an insurance that paid it all but no. The amazingly wonderful front desk person who saw my tears immediately got me in that day with another clinic across town and I got a big hug. She was so understanding and shocked at what happened. That Dr got me in less than a week later at Duke Regional and now Im 2 weeks post op and feeling much better. Now I can focus on getting my life back on track after this crazy year and 2 surgeries in less than 1 month.

Lenise Harrington

As a sickle cell patient, with numerous crises & hospitalizations our hometown hospital has made so many mistakes and couldn't help us. We were referred to Duke Children's hospital and we have had a HUGE turnaround they take the time to come up with a pain management plan instead of just giving my baby so much meds and actually tending to her needs. I am so thankful for Duke & their care for helping my baby and being the best!

Anthony Alvarez

I strongly recommend anyone considering coming to this hospital with anything painful to make sure you have a psychiatrists under your belt to mark the mental damages and or trama that you may walk away with after your prolonged wait time. Was here for about 12 hours and there seems to be a cruel unethical study being done when they send out a nurse to ask individuals of their pain levels only to do nothing for anyone. I've even seen someone brought down by security due to painful hysteria. After all, someone has to pay for that nightmarish experience that you will now have to live with especially if it effects your quality of life afterwards. They may not care about your pain but, maybe it's about time some entities be held accounable for once.

Holly Streit

The best place for competent, caring medicine! There's even a beautiful, quiet place to take a break from the hospital room!

Heather P. McPherson

Duke University Hospital is one of the top medical centers in the world. Know for it’s cancer research, cardiac programs, birthing center, Children’s hospital, just to name a few specialties. A teaching hospital, medical students get top notch training and experience. My primary care physician is at Duke Family practice. I also go to the Lupus Clinic and always received excellent, professional & caring health care. Actually had my daughter with high risk pregnancy there, 18 yrs ago. Parking deck bit steep at $2 an hour and only option you have. Hospital has many public restrooms, gender neutral and wheelchair accessible. Free Wi Fi, Starbucks coffee in several locations, cafeteria, vending machines, gift shop, admissions desk and valet parking. Although the emergency room there is ridiculous with the wait times, always crowded. I’ve waited more than 12 hours just to be seen!! Then another 8 plus hours to have work up and to be discharged. I never go there because it’s a awful experience. They are a trauma center so the sicker are seen first, my 2 day old migraine can wait...

Great care by great people

Angel Henry

I had to have a c-section here because of the county that I live in but never again the labor and delivery staff was fine but the nursing staff is the worst that I have ever seen or dealt with in my life! The cafeteria staff is trash as well when you order food they tell you it takes 45 mins to a hr for breakfast lunch and dinner when it really takes 2 hours and some change so you should order your food 2 hours before you get hungry, they never remember the condiments to go with the food that's if they even remember what you ordered. I called my nurse for pain medicine it took her 1 hour to come in and she still forgot to give me all my meds. They are not professional and they can improve alot in every way possible its only 2 nurses that actually take their jobs serious. If I should ever have to give birth again I'd rather do it at home.

Ryan Stowinsky

Never even got seen at the ER. For starters, we sat at the "valet" parking allegedly given to first time visitors for over 10 minutes with no valets and plenty of empty cars in front of me. Sick of waiting, my wife went in, and I ended up parking in the garage a fair distance away. Now I have to take my 2 year old across a busy intersection because valet is MIA. We showed up to the ER around 6 pm; waiting room's fairly crowded. My 2 year old is thirsty, so I take her to the fountain, only to find it and the floor under it covered with what looked like drops of blood. Over an hour later my wife is finally called. We go into the triage or exam room or whatever and do the usual measurement/what's the problem bit, and then we're told there are currently no rooms open and sent back to the purgatory that is the waiting room. 2 more hours go by. Plenty of people after us are called...and NOT sent back to the waiting room (apparently a MS relapse is not an emergency to Duke). Just into Hour 3, a man with a young son approached me and asked if anyone told me my daughter was not allowed in the hospital. Apparently he was told his son was not allowed in the hospital; anyone under 12 was not allowed in due to the flu. There were NO signs indicating this, but it didn't matter. After 3+ hours of waiting and watching people AFTER us get called in, we called it quits and left. The hospital still got the final FU in though with its $8 parking fee.

Carol Kelly

Upon check in, the man in registration was very pleasant and helpful. During my mom's surgery, the surgical waiting room staff was the best. I was so impressed. We were given a pager and notified every step from the first incision to meeting with the surgeon afterwards. The PACU in 7-west is state of the art with hard working knowledgeable caring (young) staff. 3300 heart unit staff were great people as well. Hospitals are for sick people. It is so important to have staff that have caring hearts....and I found them at Duke Medical Center Hospital.

john walsh

Had an appointment to admit to hospital for surgery. Waiting for over 4 hours, still waiting sitting here freezing, this is plain ridiculous. At least 10 other people signed in after me and they have been taken to their room.

Manta Trimble

They couldn’t find our ut two months old on the fifth floor

harry griffith

This place reminds me of Chernobyl.

Ryan Given

Had my hip replaced yesterday and I’m on my way home now. The whole team at Duke was incredible. The nurses easily went above and beyond for my 24-hour stay to make sure I was as comfortable as possible and worked with me to get home to relax and heal. Thank you Duke Hospital and Duke Ortho for a great job!

A. Magana

Never go to the ER I went in 2005 when I had an automobile accident, I was checked by five different medical students until a senior Dr. came in to diagnose me Tylenol and send me home with a broken back nerve, now I have to live with the daily chronic back pain. I was not even taken any x-rays no exams.

Susie Hartsog

Best hospital in North Carolina!

Ana Baez-Castillo

First time here due to an emergency.. waitingto get roomed was long (3.5-4 hrs) but definitely worth it ! Staff is amazing and once you get put in a room the attention you get is amazing .. thank you

I have been waiting on a single anti gas gelcap for almost 24 hours. So there was that. But then, and now, there is this: I am in ICU (CCU) at this facility for double pheumonia. I can barely speak much less raise my voice. I am not a problem patient. I am gracious and kind everywhere I'm able to be. I *love* my nurses overall despite their role in this matter. Which is why the following feels like such an underserved letdown, and plainly: mean. Because it took more effort to fail me than it would have to have helped me. When I was in a LOT of pain in my tummy from coughing yesterday, I was told they do not "keep anti muscle pain topical creams" onsite but would special order. I was (literally) sobbing and only needed some bengay or icy hot. " I guess they don't treat sports injuries here?" ... "Well we'll special order it for you and it will be here shortly." *24 hours pass w various nursing staff and 2 actual doctors themselves, assuring and reassuring me this was incoming* -This morning- : A NEW new nurse tells me, when he, concerned hearing my cries and coughing, looked in on me, gave me a slightly new song about it *was* on order *from* the pharmacy, but the *pharmacy* had to get it.." So a x2 special order it is now for something as innocuous as OTC topical pain Cream??? IN A HOSPITAL. Thinking surely this was beuracracy at its worst or perhaps a complete midunderstanding of what bengay and icy hot *are*, I got of my "butt" (I'm only in ICU as I type this mind you. This is definitely my responsibility.) And made a call to the inpatient (24 hour) pharmacy. Oh boy. I am immediately and without any confusion or hesitation informed they have had BOTH those products on "back order" for OVER A YEAR. So "No", it isn't, and never was: In the works, about to happen, or even at least on ORDER as of then (just for me). EVERY member of staff who said otherwise, by accident or intention, ALL failed to glean the truth of the situation in 24 hours, when I did in 4 minutes, * and * did not pass accurate information to your patient as a result, AND you failed to, as a reasonable next step, employ the use of a lidocaine cream/patch in its' place, even though the RX staff also informed me this *is the understood and long-standing practice at the hospital.* So my end question is: "WHY???" Is my blue cross insurance not sufficient for this rare and exotic medication? Do you just not like ME, or is it an overall nonplussed-ness with my plight? It's such a strange thing to shine a patient on about. If I could walk over 10 feet on my own power much less drive a car, I would go get it from the grocery across the street myself. My husband even could have yesterday morning before work *if you would have been informed and honest with me.* In conclusion, my horrified final realization Is that, in posting this, I am fearful to be "notated" negatively somehow, and these offenses against me become outright punitive. This is heartbreaking because it didn't have to be this way. I have not even made separate posts about how the other large issue of my non-optional medications I informed them of upon intake Monday afternoon, have *yet* to be sufficiently/regularly scheduled. I am being told this morning THEY are on the *orders* but not the *schedule* and that once the doctors (who will be here "any minute" about 2 hours ago), will have to rectify this upon completion of their inital rounds, which I'm sure in an entire wing will be no time at all right? 'Til then it's only my discomfort and distress. This is such a let down. This Is why I took 2 months to come to the hospital for my symptoms. Because for all the healing I will be grateful for after my stay, what will endure is the feeling of complete disrespect and disregard the choices made by Duke staff, regarding every matter and level of medication, gave me. From a gelcap for gas, to the hot water bottle I requested 45 minutes ago. What a shame. P.s. They are milling about so this is not a "we were busy" issue. This looks to *my* eyes like very poor practice becoming procedure.

Ok so, I’m going to go ahead and tell a bit of my story here, because I hope it helps someone have the courage to stand up for themselves and their health. I was diagnosed with Lupus at age 12. This diagnosis was based on several blood tests as well as symptoms I was having at the time. Since that time I have struggled year after year my entire adult life to get doctors to accept and treat me for the thing I was diagnosed with as a pre-teen. Very little is known about a lot of autoimmune disorders and almost none of them can be diagnosed or ruled out with a single test. Since I was 20 years old I have have doctor after doctor try to argue that my diagnosis was wrong and therefore they should not treat me based on one or two blood tests, despite many severely painful and debilitating symptoms that popped up every few weeks in “flares”. During this pregnancy with Maddison after all of the difficulties, my rheumatology team at MUSC decided they’d rather send me to another hospital and have THEM tell me I didn’t have lupus. So that’s what they did. They sent me to Duke University to see Dr. Clowse an “expert” in the field, and at eight months into a high risk pregnancy, my mother and I traveled 5 hours to another state to hopefully finally get some solid answers and treatment. Well long story short, after a thirty minute discussion, no blood tests, scans, or any other tests, this expert told me I did not have lupus and it was not a good thing to keep chasing that diagnosis. I was so incredibly frustrated. Fast forward about a month. I got yet another spot on my skin that I knew was connected to my disease. I can tell when I’m in a flare and these skin spots and swollen lymph nodes happen every time. I wrote a letter to 6 doctors on my care team at MUSC begging one of them to biopsy the spot. 6 of the 7 doctors would not. One agreed to. Well I’ll give you all one guess at what that biopsy came back positive for... LUPUS! Yes. After all of this a skin biopsy has proven beyond a doubt what probably twenty doctors in my life have tried extremely hard to convince me I DID NOT have, and subsequently refused to treat. My question is... what happens to the people who don’t insist? The ones who don’t know how to read the medical studies and blood test results. The sad answer is most of them eventually die from the disease process. They never had a chance. My second question is when is this going to change? When will doctors start taking pride in their treatments instead of running from liability? Moral of the story. If you know something is wrong, don’t let it go. Advocate for yourself, for your health. No one will do it for you, unfortunately not even your doctors most times. It’s up to you. Don’t give up, even when you are frustrated. Your health... your life is worth fighting for. I’m so glad I have found it in me to fight and continue to fight.

all out Go

Dr. Georgiade, Dr. Horton, Dr. Kimmick. Dr. Vaughn, and NP Zapko are all excellent healthcare professionals. At the Duke Cancer Center, I received excellent care and will always be grateful to them.

Christina Ortiz

They care about people and their illnesses. They try and teach people about how to take care of self and the nurses and certain doctors have the arts for helping someone else.. Great job!!

Christina Robinson

Went there in October I’m just now getting around to writing this review. I went to the ER because my doctor back home told me I should. I was having squeezing pains in my arm, lower back pain , and it felt like someone is sitting on my chest at all times. I felt like my feelings weren’t being taken seriously and they felt like I really wasn’t in pain. The doctor asked me multiple times do I have chest pains I stated NO. What was written on my discharge papers? CHEST PAINS. I had an IV in my arm for 4 hours and I asked multiple times for it to be taken out. NOW I have to not only pay them back for not even making me feel better I now have to go home all the way back in Charlotte for my doctor to tell me whats wrong with me. All my tests (x-rays,blood work etc.) came back good. My blood levels were a little low but my doctor back home told me they weren’t low enough to have this type of pain. here I am 3 months later with the same problems I had just worse. I probably won’t go to another doctor in Durham. If my doctor finds something the doctors at this hospital FAILED to find I will be complaining to someone higher. It may not do much but everyone should be taken seriously who is really wasting money to fake at the ER?

Nancy Raby

Great people, great service

Phunk Phinkleton

These people have no idea what they are doing, unless it's acute trauma and you're in an ambulance, go somewhere else!

richard carroll

from the valet to the staff , nurses, doctors all very professional and willing to slow down and talk, food was awful but it's the medical care that matters. here Nash General has great food but medical care sucks, nurses in ICU rock though.

jason simmons

Great hospital and staff .showed me lots of love and concern

Melissa Shields

Don't be fooled by the "Duke" name. Worst ER I've ever been to. It's a training hospital. They found out my father had a serve blood clot after an ultra sound & still made him walk back to the waiting room for another hour. The ultra sound tech was really fast and only looked at his thigh to knee and stopped. He walked back to the waiting room and was called in the back to draw blood. He questioned the need for blood work and a doctor came out of a room to inform him he had a clot and sent him back out to the waiting room. We spent a total of 6 hours in the waiting room & the doctor called it "quick" after we finally got a room. I was dumbfounded. My father repeated his story to the nurses and doctors, multiple times who didn't take the time to look at his chart. Had him self inject the medicine and sent him home without consulting a specialist like they promised. My father has a long medical history with multiple surgeries in the last couple years. Dismissed my concerns and sent him on his way. We tried calling duke to have them provide a specialist referral to see a doctor where he lives in Seattle. Duke denied the referral request because the doctors are outside of their network. Take that into consideration if you plan on going to this ER, you will be denied a specialist referral unless your doctor is in their network. Update - after arriving home in Seattle, he immediately went to his hospital where they provided another ultra sound. The Seattle hospital was very thorough and did an ultra sound on both of his entire legs and his stomach & found the clot was from his hip all the way to his calf. Since Duke stopped at his knee, they only said it was in his thigh. Will never think about returning to Duke's ER.

San Outlaw

This hospital has broke more HIPPA laws than I can count. In the Er with my Aunt and she was placed in a hallway after being brought here via ambulance. She was talking out her head and workers are just passing her by. Some were laughing...no compassion or empathy for the people they are suppose to be assisting. I will NEVER bring another family member to this ER Again. No respect for the patients. Sorriest place ever.

Brittany Labos

If I could give a negative number I would. Patient service is great yes, but I literally saw them grill a family on trying to steal some drinks. When the family showed them proof of purchase and went through detail that this was all paid for, the duke police tried to escalate the situation and find another problem with them. I was then told by another lady that this happens often and that the duke medical police basically tries to find people to arrest all the time and this situation occurs very often. Even staff pretended like they didn’t know what happened but I saw the cashier ring them up seconds before the incident and I also saw them say that they stole the food when they didn’t, Ridiculous! It bothered me so much because I didn’t like the abuse of power that I was seeing, shame on you duke! I just hope they see this and realize it is not ok to do this to someone who especially is going through hard times already (seeing that they are in the hospital for a reason).

Misty Martin

Great doctors there. They have helped my family so much from my mother's cancer to my father's cancer and bike accident. I truly believe in this hospital and the great work they can do.

Wanda Smith

Dr Mendoza was the best. I also have other doctors at Duke really good Immunologist Dr. Tarrant.

Samantha Trimble

Our 12 weeks old baby had his open heart surgery and I must say thanks to the surgeon, that’s why I’ll give 5***** but when it comes to the nurses taking care of our son on the fifth floor, the nurses leave him in his messy diapers, they talk so loud in the hallway, leave him to cry his brain out, the room is so small you have to seep on the cold floor, they don’t ever be on time with his medications or feeds, I had to look at how they give him a bath, wipe his down so hard his stitches weren’t even healed properly, and it’s so messed up you have to spend 48 hours before child get discharged even though both parents are there to witness everything, baby could be sleeping and they come in and talk so loud, wake him up, left and we have to deal with him going back to sleep, just a bad experience all together

Simone M

I came into the Heart patient ICU(west wing) and it was the rockiest hospital stay I’ve ever had. The staff is nice but it seems that many of them are uneducated. My mother had to undergo several traumatic surgeries before the staff got it right. The emotional/mental aftermath is still in recovery since being in the hospital over a month. The policies are not very hospitable to families. They don’t allow more than one family member after 9pm. I ended up having to leave my mother so my father (her husband) could stay the night with her. What kind of policy is this that frowns upon emotional support from immediate family members? I’ve only experienced this kind of policy from duke. Now you have to stay the night in the cold waiting room. If you didn’t bring a blanket you’re out of luck because they only provide linen to patients. Every other hospital I’ve been to gives warm blankets as a courtesy without asking. If you’re in North Carolina please remain with the CMC(atrium health) or Novant medical system. The overall quality and experience is MUCH better.

Jan Andrews

Been in ER going on ten hours! Sent to ER by Duke Urgent Care to determine internal bleeding. Ridiculous! Have always loved Duke but worst experience ever!

Sonia Clark

This time around for surgery was awesome... the 5th floor 5300 unit did such an awesome time this go around... thank you for making this stay comfortable...

Chase Johnson

My pawpaw works there he does all the med gases and works on oxygen air and vacuum it's a great hospital..........and my Great grandpa went there when we was 99.99%sure he was going to die when he had COPD and on life support for 12 days the doctors helped him and the Lord pulled him through and he's 81 years old and works full time at the Burlington school system........and my pawpaw that works there has had an eye surgery there and a double bypass open heart surgery there and the doctors helped him recover from both of them and he's back at work

shana wallace

I came into duke with the idea that they would give their all in helping me, and yet to my horror, I waited twelve hours on my injured tailbone and injured spine in a wheelchair after having undergone a very bad blood patch gone wrong. I then had the same symtoms I suffered with from a csf leak, and also some uncontrollable tremors that were new and highly concerning to me, as well as sevear pain in my tailbone, and these were NEW symtoms after the failed blood patch from a local hospital near me. I have a connective tissue disease called Elders danlos, and POTS disease, along with reoccurring CSF leaks, two herneated disks in my spine, a small cyst in my spine, and bone spurs. All of which could be the cause of my CSF leaks, and also once again, NEW onset very acute pain and symtoms after the failed blood patch. I came hear for help, as this hospital claims to treat the conditions I have, and any hospital claims if you have new symtoms, show up to get a closer look. I showed up hopeing for some help, I have shooting nerve like pain down my legs as well, which is also concerning. Heaven forbid I come in for new onset symtoms and ask for a lookie see. I also have sudden swelling in hands, feet, legs, face, and that is also concerning. I decided to bring my paperwork from the last hospital, which you would think Duke would at this point want to do special more in depth testing to locate the new issues and whats causeing them. I get there, wait 12 hours, get blood tooken, and called back for a mri, and these are no diffrent than the last hospitals testing that was already on my paperwork in hand. I get asked about my pain, Its so bad im at a ten sitting in this waiting room, being one of the only ones with concerning tremors that are highly not normal, more conclusive of damage to the spine. I ended up waiting and being very patient despite, and They continued to promise pain management, but instead it was much like a sick joke, they teased you with the idea that they would give you your rightful pain management. not only that, they brought me back into a fancy trama room after 12 hours as if they were going to actally do something. I could barely get onto the bed in that room without screaming, and they asked my pain level again, then informed me that they will not be giving me pain management at all or alternitive pain management. They are measureing how long of a wait you can sit in pain without dieing, and that is all they want to do. I need to go to therapy now due to their sick 12 hour joke. NOT only that, they ended up suddenly coming into this exam room, and telling me they were gonna do absolutely nothing. This hospital has the machines and abilitys to help you, but they choose not to. There is no excuse, as I have great coverage, I can afford any test they have. There was people as well as myself INCLUDEING children who were crying in pain and destress waiting anywhere from 3 to 12 hours in this ER. There was Eldely who were barely functioning in there for 3 to 12 or more hours in the waiting room. This hospital ER is plain lazy, they dont treat pain, they do not care about your condition, you will die in this waiting room, and then you will get nothing in the back except false hope and disappointment. I cannot speak in reguards to Dukes outpatient care, or their inpatient care, or other operations connected with them, but I can highly say that the ER is a nightmare, a sick joke, you are being tested for pain endurance, you will not get treated like a human, and they will not care about your pain, or the new symtoms that you have. Do not come to this ER, beware.

Nicole Jones

The Dr don't tell you when are go home

Stephen Daniel

First rate hospital. Excellent care. Ok food

Tish Jackson

Great place to work even greater place for health care

Onenonly

If you don't have insurance, you will get rushed out of the er! Unc is better!!

Kevin Cottrell

Absolute worst hospital out of the largest in the piedmont. If your disabled and or on Alliance/Medicaid/Medicare you can forget it pertaining the MD's. You'll experience very friendly, very helpful staff but the docs DO NOT want to see you. They are at Duke for the money, period. Nata else. Test are scheduled months off, really. Even things like ordered MRI's. I broke my back in two places in 2003 and fused from L4,L5 into S1. Disabled for life. Dukes Spine Clinic could care less. Had to go to Sentara Health System to have L3 fused last year after wasting two years at Dukes Spine Clinic in horrid pain. There? Two opinions (always do b4 a back surgery) said I should have been fused at L3 then imedietly after MRI done at Duke over two years prior. They didn't even want a new one, used Dukes. I survived that agony and now am relatively pain free again (no meds). Even within Durham, those with money or great insurance? Go to Chapel Hill.

jaquiesha smith

After my child got Transferred from Greenville to Duke I can truly say they have help my daughter and she finally gets to go home after 6 Months ....Thank You so much DUKE!!!!!

Liz McGill

AVOID DUKE HEALTH SERVICES AT ALL COSTS. I went to an urgent care center in 2017 and for whatever reason, they didn't try filing with my insurance until this past August 2019. Because THEY didn't do their job and missed the filing deadline, they have been HARRASSING me with endless phone calls and threats over this debt that I am not responsible for. They are crooks. Plain and simple.

Richard Acrivos

Great hospital been coming here for over 30 years.

Valery Lytle

On-going Chemo for my granddaughter, soon to be 4 years old - these pediatric oncologists are the best! She still has a ways to go, but we are very pleased with the way they handle the ups and downs of chemo over the course of a year for a toddler and all her variations of personality!

Steve Doherty

A 3rd world hospital with an undeserved world class reputation. There are small islands of quality care here surrounded by a sea of mediocrity. Cleanliness and non working facilities are a major issue here. I would not personally willing go here.

latoyria Bullock

So first off I would like to say that, the staff is great here especially on the 5th floor. I’ve spent quit some time here now and everything has been great and the staff are awesome. But this damn food is the absolutely worse. I think they need better meals and choices taste wise. I think it’s bad enough that people come here on very long stays ,the least that could be done is to serve them some food that’s tasteful. The portions are very small and it’s not much to choose from.

Hupi Ruser

Great clinical care, but grossly incompetent health information management department: simple medical records request is taking nearly 2 months

EMS Life

Great Place. They have a ton of expert Doctors that can help you.

Nacole Bullock

The doctors were very judgmental my last visit and stereotypical ... Assumed me & my husband didn't have money to buy formula for our baby when i told them ample times he was NOT keeping the milk down and they even changed the milk to soy base.. They insisted i get on W.I.C even after i told them i didnt use that milk and didnt need that assitance. I really felt they were being racist

Tiffany Hale

Worst place, especially for young children. Very disrespectful and don’t listen to what you have to say.

Donna James

I was in this emergency room waiting area for 15 hours. When I finally left I was still hurting and in pain an for them to tell me NOTHING!!! They referred me to you Lincoln and that was a train wreck. The are in the business of KILLING people.

Tomon Parker

the best hospital staff is great and my mom work there

Misty Sears

We love duke hospital. There is a reason they are number one. Dr Broomer and his staff took good care of us.

Angela Aldredge

My experience here was horrific! Terrible nursing staff, Charge nurses included! The doctors and residents were just as bad. Based on the hospitals name alone, I expected it to meet higher standards. I give my experience with Duke University a rating of complete dissatisfaction! Following my surgery as an oncology patient my doctor never made rounds and literally never came by to check on me following my operation.

Adventures Of Junebug

Spent a lot of time and money at Duke over the past 6 years looking for answers but only to get referrals to see a team of specialist. Almost started believing all these issues were not real or in my wife's head. Switched to UNC and within a few weeks we had an answer. My wife suffered from a few herniated disc in neck region compressing nerves and spinal cord. Transferring my whole family to unc .

Debra Addom

I would give Duke a thousand stars if I could. The staff goes above and beyond for their patients and I've never been more supported or comfortable in any hospital. I wish I could do something to show my appreciation for everyone I've been privileged to be around, but from the bottom of my heart....thank you for everything 5th floor doctor's and nurses!

Nicole Smith

We went for a Kidney evaluation, and most of the staff was friendly however they really did not disclose that you have to pay for parking at a hospital until it was the day of. I thought that was very cheap and unacceptable to ask a kidney patient and their family to pay for parking at their hospital. You are their all day with the evaluation, and they do give you free lunch, however you do repay for the lunch when you have to pay for $8.00 parking. I have been to several hospitals and normally they validate the parking. I feel the hospital does try to milk you of money the minute you hit the hospital, instead of really caring about your health. We were coming from a far location to come to this hospital and you are already paying for lodging, which was not cheap around the area, and paying for gas, and food. I think the hospital needs to help out with some of the expenses by giving free parking at least.

Patricia Crosby

In order to answer the question why we love Duke Hospital? There are details I have to go into. My husband was born and raised in Durham, NC. He actually was born in Duke Hospital when it was only one building standing. It is now a big conglomerate of medical buildings and subsidiaries. We moved from New York to North Carolina four years ago. My husband had medical issues that were not addressed to our satisfaction in New York. The medical professionals in New York were slow in getting to the bottom of my husband's medical problems. Everything there seemed rushed and clinical. All we got was a lot of doctor's appointment and a stack of medical bills. Once we arrived in NC and were established, we found a primary care physician at one of Duke Primary Care facilities. From there, we received referrals to doctors that were in Duke Hospital. The Doctors immediately took charge of my husband's medical care. They were able to evaluate, dignois and solve his medical issues. They perform medical testings and procedures with the latest medical equipment. All was done in a timely manner. My husband's medical issues were solved and we were satisfied. He is doing fine. So to answer the question as to why we love Duke Hospital? It is the only place where my husband were able to receive the proper medical care he needed. The doctors, nurses and medical staff displayed professionalism, they were knowledgeable, warm and caring. A kind word with a warm smile can go along way when you are facing a medical issue.

Edward Faison

I was born in Duke Hospital on January 25, 1943. They must have done an excellent job because I'm still here at 74 yrs. Thanks Duke.

David Howard

Not too bad

Chelsea Peters

Ha . the give blackets snack tv . But when it comes to u being in pain It dont matter to them. i have been here since 330pm & i could have just beat my head against the wall .

Jeannie Ruffin

Fantastic health care and team work. My husband has lung cancer that has spread and has had complications. They have treated him efficiently and with courtesy. I trust Duke health care.

Walter Greer

2 years ago my mother was turned away from her hometown hospital in Greenville, NC with a severe infection. so her friend drove her to Duke University Hospital to receive treatment. they took great care of her at Duke. Greenville Hospital is a total disaster bordering on 3rd world.

Jenn Managi

It's a hospital. I've had a night nurse, while I was admitted, insert a latex catheter knowing I have a latex allergy, but the response from the other nurses and doctors and administration was good. They apologized, worried about me, were very patient, explained anything I asked about and stayed professional, courteous. My oldest was also an ER patient while still a newborn. Yes the wait was long. But the staff nurses and doctors were kind, thorough and considerate.

Crimson Bender

The men and women of Duke saved my Dad's life. His liver went bad due to his gallbladder being bad. They did a transplant and now my Dad looks and feels better. They still take good care of him and check on him. They care for their patients and treat them like family. Thank you Duke for giving me more years with my father. Love and Peace.

Hayley Sheffield

We arrived at 10:20am....it's now 9:11pm and we STILL haven't been seen. There are people in here that have been waiting even longer. That is a ridiculous amount of time to have to wait. The staff keep telling us to wait another 30 minutes because beds are opening up, but then when we ask an hour later they say the same thing. When we threaten to leave they say wait 30 more minutes. 11 hours later here we are still waiting. This is the hospital we were referred to? Wow. Would not recommend.

Patty Sanchez

My father and my grandmother have has mayor surgeries in this hospital, the nurses that have taken care of them have been kind and helpfull

Zuri Han

One of the best hospital in the United States. This hospital is extremely big so make sure to check the floor map in case you need to go here.

Bradley Cheek

great staff

I'm writing this review in regard to a surgery I had today. In short, every person I encountered was professional, helpful, and keen on keeping me comfortable. The procedure itself was maxillofacial surgery, which was performed by Dr. Powers and his fellow. Each of them stopped by when I was pre-op and not only ensured that we knew what was going on, but also gave us options regarding the course we could take post-op. A special thanks to the anesthesia team (led by Dr. Miller), who enthusiastically made sure I was safe and comfortable. Unfortunately I have forgotten the name of the nurse anesthetist who was so helpful, but I want her to know that she was much appreciated. Everyone I consciously interacted with before and after the surgery, from the receptionist and pre-op nurse to the surgical team and PACU nurses, were nothing but respectful and professional. I'm not sure if there is a better place in North Carolina to have a surgical procedure done than Duke University Hospital.

I have had 3 surgeries at Duke Hospital and I received excellent care. The staff was courteous and very efficient.

If you are in pain or been going through a domestic dispute with a spouse I would not go to this hospital. Day 6 in here and I’m feeling like the defendant. Social worker Monica told me “no” that she could not find a place for me in Raleigh and I’m trying to save my life before my family have to identify me in a body bag. On top of that they told me I had MRSA test results came back negative. I was stressing the whole time didn’t know if I was about to die or not.

You have to wait entirely too long in the ED especially just to get Triaged and it’s absolutely unacceptable.

Be careful of overcharging!!! The worst hospital ever..They took advantage of me because I was dizzy ( they were thinking I won't remember anything). They charged me for medicines and services that I have refused to take. I have contacted the billing office multiples times, and they been transferring from one department to another. Now, It has been two months that I have been calling them, but the problem hasn't been solved yet.

Doctor was rude and acted like she didn't want to answer questions. In and out in a hurry dud nit explain anything. Nurse was even worse rude and hateful. Never will I use this hospital again. Awful staff.

I live an hour away in Virginia and prefer this place to anywhere within two hours of me--and there are some great medical facilities in that range.

The doctors and nurses are the best and caring nurses I have ever seen, and I have been a nurse for 20 years. I believe their staff and Godsaved my huhusband's life. Thank you and god bless.

Emergency room staff is worthless. Brought my brother in having a heart attack. They left him in the waiting room for hours. Hope the doctors are as good as Duke claims cause so far this place is useless. Will update if anything gets better. Hopefully they can gain some stars. Not likely

My name is Diana A. As I sit and write this review, I'm totally disgusted with Duke Hospital ER staff currently on duty 8/18/15, 1900 hours EST. My sister had a major abdominal surgery 8/10/15, today she presented to the ER with chest pain and shortness of breath! the ER staff acted nonchalant, let my sister sit for a good 45 minutes with NO ONE! attending to her, I will understand if she is having cold symptoms or fever , headache etc.. but is having CHEST PAIN for Christ sake! she came out of a freaking major surgery last week, and you guys just sit for that amount of time and do nothing?!, each and every nurse/doctor/medical practitioner knows that chest pain after a major surgery is a life threatening emergency! and I will exhibit that state of emergency with any patient! whether is my family member or not! Is rather unfortunate that I live in MD, and not Durham NC, but I will still take this matter up! and now you guys are suspecting Pulmonary Embolism? that should have been the first on your mind and check her in ASAP when she reported to the ER! I am truly DISAPPOINTED! I thought Duke is suppose to be one of the best hospitals?.... SMH!

Have not been as impressed as I thought. Have seen so many different doctors that we haven't built any relationships or feel they really know our son and they haven't followed up with test results without us calling to get them... Only complaints other than the $10 parking garage you are forced to use that is equal to the insurance copay. It is shiny and fancy with valet parking... feels like big business more than a service oriented treatment facility
