I've been in this hospital 3 times since January 12th 2015 and it seems that the night shift could use some restructuring. The staff seems a bit lazy and noticeably less professional than the day shift.

Excellent doctors from Orthocarolina for my 5th knee replacement and my 4th on my right knee. I had a knee replacement go bad in Cali WLA, staph infection, Cedars Sinai fixed it in 2006 now CMC Mercy fixed it better with a fine new knee. I hurt but that is expected. So far so good. I'm sick to my stomach from the general, but needed it. In the hospital 4 days, and I'm 70 years old. Thank you nurses, Dr. F and business workers at the hospital.

SERVICE SUCKS FROM JANICE AND ANNICA WHO BOTH HAVE THEIR NAME TAGS COVERED UP BECAUSE THEY MUST KNOW THEIR SERVICE SUCKS. NOT INVITING AT ALL. NO SMILES. NO PERSONALITY.. JUST DRY AF!! THIS PLACE DOES NOT MAKE U FEEL WELCOME. I WILL NOT BE RETURNING. ANNICA WAS MORE CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT I WAS DOING ON MY CELL PHONE THEN BEING CONCERNED BOUT WHAT BRINGS ME IN TODAY. JANICE WAS MAKING LIGHT OF MY PERSONAL INFORMATION WHEN ASKING ME MY NAME. SHE ASKED ME TO COME TO THREE DIFFERENT WINDOWS AND STILL DIS NOT REGISTER MY DAUGHTER. THERE ARE TWO MACHINES INFRONT OF THE WINDOW SHE IS AT AND MUST EXPECT U TO CLIMB OVER THESE TWO LARGE ITEMS TO GET TO HER. IF IT WERE NOT FOR MY DAUGHTER NEEDING TO BE SEEN I WOULD HAVE BEEN LEFT! AND I WOULDNT EVEN HAVE GIVEN THIS PLACE ONE STAR BUT NO CHOICE IN ORDER TO LEAVE REVIEW!! WE AS BLACKS HAVE TO DO BETTER!! ITS INEVITABLE !!!!

My grandfather was sent here because there were no room at CMC pineville or CMC main. We found out he had colon cancer. Surgery went well, but two days after he had a bile obstruction. They waited over 8 hours of him throwing up bile before they even thought to put a NG tube in. Well in the process of putting the tube in he aspirated and was rushed to ICU where he placed on a ventilator and was sedated for 4 days.. they removed the ventilator, and released him on the same day, now he is laying at home suffering scared to death to go back due to the way he was treated over the two weeks at mercy.. The only person we met at the hopsital that seemed to have any since was a clean up lady who told us we needed to get him out of there as soon as possible. I would NOT recommend this hopsital to ANYONE!

I went in because I cut my finger almost to the bone with a metal cutting band saw. I get checked in everything is normal I wait maybe 30-40 min to get to the back to see a nurse, you never see doctors here but get charged for seeing a doctor. I waited about an hour to get X-rays then the nurse cleaned my finger some. Wait another hour for X-rays sit back in my room to wait for the nurse another hour later the nurse come in cleans the finger again and stitches it closed 5 stitches in total. I finally leave after 3-3.5 hours to get two X-rays and 5 stitches. Then the bills roll in 500 for two X-rays, 1800 bill from the hospital and a 2500 bill from the "doctor" that I never saw or spoke with. I almost literally was charged 1000 per stitch I received. It almost literally took one hour per stitch of you look at the situation correct. I would rather let my finger rot off next time then go back to this overly priced under managed facility. Two thumbs way the f down!!

Have been in the room for 5 hours after getting admitted for a blood transfusion. They just came to draw blood for a type and screen. At this rate, I'll have to spend the night now. Thank you for the lack of service.

Worst place.... Billing service is sucks.... Billing department doesn't know how to use pre authorization code while claiming it... Its more than 3 months still not sorted out.... Hospital room was not great either.

My wife came in the emergency entrance with pain at 10 and vomiting. It took an hour to get into a room, which wouldn't bother me if they would care AT ALL about trying to help the pain while she waited. The threw up 3 times in the emergency waiting room with no one blinking on the staff. When we got in the room we had the WORST nurse I've ever seen. Bad bedside manner would be one thing, but straight up HORRIBLE at her job. Needs to leave medicine all together. She put multiple needles in my wife's arm and when she finally realized how much pain that was causing ng on top of the original she was dealing with her response was "oh well it's a clean draw, see there's blood in the needle". No apology, no can I get you something for the pain, no nothing. My wife was in tears the whole time she was in the room, yet not one person checked on her and when we asked for ANYTHING for the pain the response was "you just got your iv, someone will be along later". When someone finally came to take her to imaging they finally brought needles for pain. My wife couldn't move the pain was so bad, so it took time to transfer to the wheelchair. I asked if she could get the pain meds to start working and maybe make it a little easier to move to the wheelchair. Once again the response was "she was a difficult stick, and I'm waiting till she gets into the chair". WORST WORST WORST CARE I'VE EVER SEEN!!!!! TO IGNORE A PATIENT IN PAIN IS ABOMINABLE!!!!! TOTAL JACKWAGONS IN THIS PLACE!!!!!!

The worst hospital experience I've had. I came into the ER after midnight, there was no one there to check in with, I eventually had to ask security who I should talk to. This woman named Janice came out and was nasty and rude to me. Then while I'm waiting to go back Janice is actually giving me dirty looks! Then I'm skipped when being called back. Then JANICE comes back into the room for billing information and she's gets even nasty with there! She was rolling get eyes at me not looking at me when she was talking to me. Then the nurse leaves the body temp reader and the blood pressure cuff on sand didn't take them off!! Total laziness!! On top of it all there was a syringe on floor!!!!!! Get your stuff together!

I know the ED, and the floors that patients are taken to are very nice. ED is very good in treating people with different problems, or sickness. STAFF WAS PROFESSIONAL AND VERY HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY.

The nursing staff on the floor I was on was nice and caring. That's all I ever saw since I was transferred in.

Elizabeth Family Medicine is located in the hospital. The doctors and staff are wonderful ❤️.

Caitlin Cross

Nursing staff was kind, the very young female Doctor I saw was unethical, unprofessional, and patronizing to someone who has a lifelong chronic illness. Same doctor put false information on my chart, and discharged me while I was so sick I almost didn't make it to cmc-main across the street (where I was immediately treated for what was an obvious condition). I would never feel safe in this building after what I went through here.

Tazzy Bby

I hate coming to this emergency room only reason why i come to it when its convenient to family members like my unlce was here the time i brought my son in but rather then that i HATE IT STAFF ARE HORRIBLE AND THEY ATTENTION GET THROWED OF and DISTRICTED QUICK AND FORGET ABOUT WAT JUST HAPPEN IN FRONT OF THEM WHEN SOMEONE COME IN AND INTERRUPTED THEM WITH ANOTHER PATIENT Problem like let take care of the patient u have first and worried bout the others its nobody falt that u short staffed or whatever the case my be IS BUT I REALLY DO HATE COMING HERE.... AND THIS

Unfortunately this system does not allow zero stars which is what the Mercy ER deserves following a recent visit. The waiting room was not busy...me and one other patient. ER did not appear busy yet wait time was excessive. My hospital ID had a Dr. Burger listed. After getting settled into a patient room I had to explain my symptoms several times. I was exhibiting strep and or flu symptoms wuth a severe sore throat, difficulty swallowing... A Nurse Practitioner named Stephanie Patterson came in to assess my symptoms. I explained I had been taking OTC meds for fever, pain and cough and was getting no relief. It was very difficult to speak because of the pain. Each question she asked she would interrupt during my answer. I was not tested for strep, flu, etc however Stephanie's brilliant diagnosis was a COLD maybe the FLU. (Yeah, I often waste my money on an ER trip for a cold...BS) When I asked why a test was not done to confirm her brilliant diagnosis her response was "we only do those tests if we admit patients. I was given a prescription for Magic Mouthwash (a compound of lidocaine, benadryl, nystatin). A pharmacist friend thought that alone was negligent. I have never encountered a "health care professional" with absolutely NO professional skills whatsoever. When I left I stopped at the reception desk and told the receptionist that I had NOT seen Dr. Burger and I would not only never return to Mercy ER but I certainly should not be billed for a DOCTOR when I did not see one. It is now 5 days since getting ill. I am much worse, fever is difficult to control, chest pain, rapid shallow breathing with wheeze. Will I return to Mercy? Not a snowballs chance in hell. Considering going to my family out of state to see a REAL doctor

Octavia Wade

I went to this hospital (MERCY)on the 9th of October 2019 because of wheezing due to Asthma and bronchitis!! I usually go to Presbyterian Hospital I thought they were better, nope. They would give me a breathing treatment and send me home. Not Mercy they admitted me the same night because the wheezing would not stop! They really cared about me!!! They would not release me until I was better!

K Marshall

We visited the ER late on a Monday night/Tuesday morning. Our nurse was very sweet and quick to relieve my girlfriend's pain. Dr. John Burger was the most compassionate, patient, informative physician I have ever met. I would definitely recommend CMC Mercy!

Really really bad to be in this place.(Emergency) I had bring my Mom Thursday at 2am and till Friday at 8:20, they only show up once to check her up. They didn’t provide us room but they provide room for everyone that came late than us. Plus medic guy took my Mom ID and hasn’t return to me yet. I asked all around but not a really satisfying answer. I asked them to check her up and what took so long for nurse, they took me” there’s no nurse” but I can clearly see that; they’re laughing and talking to each rather than ask and help us. Still at hospital. (Friday 8:29 AM)

Robison Goncalves

I would give no stars if I could. The ER in this hospital is the worst I’ve ever been too. My husband arrived there by ambulance for chest pains and the entire stay lasted more than 8 hours. Five of them were in the waiting room. The nurse had a smart attitude when I asked what’s taking so long. Her response was “this is Charlotte a big city and we only have one doctor on call” Very unprofessional. Not my problem nor my business just do your job! It wasn’t til I asked for the results of the chest exam so I could take them to another er that they took him back! To make it worse we showed his insurance card more than 3 times and he still is receiving bills in the mail without insurance being added. Just incompetent and careless all the way around!!

Mike Stephens

The security staff stole a wallet from a patient on the floor while the patient was downstairs the other security guards held the patient downstairs and would not let him get his belongings that security guard is a thief and should be held accountable for his actions a police report was filed against him and i want to see what happens to that security guard and him get arrested for theft

Jimmy Johnson

Unprofessional! She's rubbing her face and eating in the triage with a nasty attitude to top it off. After we leave I will recommend that nobody I know come here. These so called "nurses" won't even get out of their chairs to speak to a woman in a wheelchair. They have asked her to be wheeled up to the counter three separate times.

Came to Mercy ER Sunday October 20 after falling 5 months ago. Multilevel fusions, two rods from neck to base. No problems 30 years until I missed chair on new waterproof floor (concrete). Everyone was lovely except Rachel PA. Told me I had siatica before even looking.Showed swollen thighs. Rachel said you don't have hip fracture or infection before looking. Headed to main. Hip just broke.

They cared less in this place front desk worker telling me a hour wait at 10 pm 12 a.m hit still a hour wait 2 ,3 o' clock hit still haven't been seen 4' o clock they still didn't have any rooms so basically I could've died and they wouldn't cared so I just called my husband to come pick me up and yes I'm still in pain all the others were the same....HOW IS THAT U HAVE THESE HUGE HOSPITAL WITH NOT ENOUGH ROOMS LIKE THATS RIDICULOUS YALL WAITING FOR A "ACCIDENT" TO HAPPEN

i been here a week with my husband, the nurse's on night shift don't do nothing but be on cell phone laughing and playing patient was calling for a hour across the room for help they never came the person fell out the bed on the floor, they keep the patients in their bed wet and has BM for hours, the rooms bed dirty and nasty. Wow they need to be fired the 4th floor

Richard Parris

While no one "wants" to have surgery...I must say the staff at Mercy exceeded every expectation! This was the best experience ever. Every single person I encountered made it their top priority to see that not only me, but family was comfortable and knew what was going on. My nurse, Phyliss on 7th floor was absolutely the best and truly made the whole experience a great one! Thank you!!!

Zachary Miller

Lazy uncaring staff. Information is not passed on between shifts. Be prepared to go 20+ hours without food because everyone seems to "forget" to take food orders. Only came here as an emergency.

Hakeem Roseman-Newman

Over 2 1/2 hr wait && still wasn't seen. Went in at 2:30 am 4:40am I left pissed off and unseen. Not even vitals were taken. Only me & 2 other people in the waiting room & they came in after me. Piss poor !! Hopefully its only the night shift thats this terrible & unprofessional. No update. When I asked about an estimated time i was told to sit down and someone will b with me. Well 1 hour later that never happened. I left unhelped with a wrist band & still n pain. Thanks A lot Mercy Emergency Room for Nothing !!

Worst hospital so far I went to in charlotte got here round 9 am m it's now 12:45 pm n still here...Nurses must be training because some really don't know what they are doing. Called for a doctor an hour ago to check on my fiance the doctor hasn't came yet...so mad never again. I will file a complaint

i am currently a patient here. i have been here for 3 days now with no answers might i add. dietary has forgotten to serve me 3 times. went without food for hours and i spoke to 2 people higher up even the director robert and aderonke and all they gave were excuses. they dont caree about their patients here. the only good thing is the nurses like latoya and becky. and envoirmental services like lisa. i will never return here and i will be contacting corp about this matter. there is no excuse for a small hospital to be this neglectful .

This hospital staff will give you their butts to kiss and have so much attitude especially kitchen staff. Hospitality is lacking big time . There are very few staff members in various departments that are actually kind & doing their job correctly .

I had surgery at Mercy this week. I was a little worried about going there because of some of the reviews. I had the best experience from checking in, all the nursing staff, dr and anesthesiologists nurses. They couldn’t have gone out of their way more to make me as comfortable as possible.

Dominique Toon

My mom went in for back surgery. The staff and doctors were kind and kept me well informed.

So disapponting! The level of unprofessionalism is astonishing! This hospital use to be the best in the area.It truly has lost that reputation. When I arrived at approx 11pm,the receptionist completely ignored me and continued with a flirtatious and completely inappropriate conversation with two male staff members while I just stood there waiting to be served. She had no idea why I was seeking care..and obviously did not care. She was rude and full of attiude... with smart remarks. Finally, after the guys walked off,she asked for my name and info.I was the only person in the lobby seeking care..yet waited over two hours before a medical doctor stopped by the room.It was obvious he too was lacking in professionalism..he was unprepared..had no idea why I was was there and had not bothered to even look at my chart. He left to go read the chart ..It is now 2am and Im still waiting! I use to recommend this hospital and was the only one I would go to for 35 years.. but never again!Truly sad to see a once "shining example"...turn to rust! Retraining is need at this place immediately!

Buyer beware. Went for outpatient procedure. Was told I owed a certain amount for the testing. 2 months later thousands of dollars worth of medical bills and they sent my labs to somewhere out of network. Do NOT trust the financial people that talk to you about what you owe before the procedure. Advise that you call your insurance company first. Very dishonest company. Will be leaving them for independent physicals.

Jessica Needles

I used to come here for ECT procedures. It's been one of the best hospitals I've ever been to. They genuinely care not just about helping you with the problem you came in for, but also your comfort level while you're there. They're thorough and attentive, and make sure to check in often enough to make sure things stay comfortable. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars (If i could it'd be 4 1/2) is because things do move a little slow. But with the quality of care and the kindness of the staff it's not a big issue.

Shamika Camp

I hate this hospital! The doctor's do not care about you. I'm only giving it two stars because of the nurse Jake.

Gary Campbell

9-6-12 Had Cysto testing done at Mercy Hospital and it was a wonderful experiance with the complete staff. They were helpful from the front door when I entered until I left. Can't say enough about the staff and how polite they were and helpful. My wife waited while I was haveing the test performed and they kept her informed and offered her coffee and drinks making sure she didn't need anything during her wait. I have never been to Mercy before but will ask my doctors to use this hospital any time I need one in the future, Thanks Mercy Staff you were wonderful and everyone smiles

I visited the Carolinas Medical Center last week with my son. I am a visitor to the state and was extremely impressed with this hospital. All of the staff welcomed us with open arms. They were all so very nice and polite. The cleanliness at this hospital was extremely impressive. The employees and caregivers at this facility genuinely care for your well-being. After the visit a few days later they even called to check up on my son! Best hospital visit my family and I ever experienced. I hope the staff gets recognized for being the best!

Absolute worst place I've ever been. Un-knowledgable staff, rude, and downright unpleasant. Almost paid 20,000 out of pocket to sign an ama paper that would've let me check into another hospital, that's how terrible the care is. On top of the staff that I personally think shouldn't be anywhere near a medical field, this facility is somewhat missing a medical field. One of my symptoms (it was a lot of stuff, I was there for two nights) was an ear infection. It took me five hours of asking to look at it for them to listen to me, and then they needed another five hours searching the whole hospital to find an otoscope, the one they found was broken, so it took another hour on top of that to find a working one. This isn't close to the worst of the problems, but shows the lack of competence this hospital has. I wouldn't reccomended it to anyone.

MissG

I wasn't going to write a review until I received paperwork from a collections agency yesterday stating I owe them $512 now $593 because someone added an extra $81 that they will NEVER get. Long story short, I went to the ER some years back because my throat was sore to the point that I could not swallow. I had strep throat before, so I figured it might be the same thing going on. So, I tell the RN that I think I have strep-throat and she gives me a shot of Penicillin. No tests were done, no swab used or anything. A few weeks later, here comes a bill that's $512. I basically told these people what I thought was wrong with me and they took my word and charged me that much money. Now they don't want to remove this from my credit. For that purpose, I will never ever go to Mercy ever again and I will make sure I contact the right people to get their mess off my credit report. They are a joke and I don't take them serious. Be careful if you choose to go here for anything.

Great place. Nice staff

Had surgery and was well taken care of by the staff and surgeon. I did have bite marks all over my legs upon release from the 5th floor of the hospital. I believe it to be best bugs as I had no issues from my home to the hospital. I mean flaming red marks on the bottom of my legs where the sheets were the entire over. Night stay, very concerning. I did alert them so that they can look into the issues. Other than that I received top notch care from the staff

Very rude nurse that told me to get a real job. It was hard to get a straight answer out of the Dr and she acted like it was a chore to examine me. Only reason I came is because its quick to be seen. Had to go to another Er to get treated for dehydration.

Was taken by EMS to CMC-Main for shortness of breath/bad headache, and while in the ED, suffered a heart attack. Was stabilized and sent to CMC-Mercy, as there were no beds available at CMC-Main. While at CMC-Mercy, had a heart cath done to examine and see where the blockages were. The staff that took care of me before, during, and after the heart cath are to be commended. Kind, caring, and kept me informed as to what was currently being done, and what I could expect next. Maybe some folk have had bad experiences here, but considering that I was in a hospital for Heaven's sake, I couldn't have asked for better treatment from everyone I came in contact with at CMC-Mercy.

Candi Maloni

There is a nurse here named Michelle and she is a very horrible person she should be fired. She told my momma that she don’t care.

Amanda Barnett

Let me just start off by saying, the staff was very nice and understanding. I took my mom in to be detoxed and to get help for her ongoing alcohol problem of 10+ years. This place was suggested strongly by our insurance company. After 4-5 hours, they discharged her. They said they didn't have any open beds, after letting her sober up. My mom finally admitted she needed help and this place doesn't have anything in store for those with alcohol problems when they don't have an open bed. I know this isn't the fault of anyone who works here.. but whoever is in charge most defiantly needs to figure out a solution. Considering this is a place where people with alcohol (and drug) problems frequently go to receive help, I was very disappointed that they did not try to find her help outside of the facility. I was told there is no psychiatric unit, or therapists on site which disgusts me! Are people that struggle with suicidal thoughts or even try to commit suicide just discharged after the current problem is solved?! They need to come up with a better system to support the people that come in with life threatening issues outside of car accidents, falling off a ladder, common illnesses, and so on! Thank God we were able to find her a bed elsewhere in a little over 24 hours.. that's enough time for someone looking for help to change their mind! (which she did) Oh, and I'd also like to point out that they put my mother in the hallway and we were forced to either sit at the head of the bed or not sit with her at all. We need to make a difference and help this world change to support our people that struggle with addiction, especially if you are going to have a hospital based on helping people with addiction. We could have taken her to our local hospital and received on site therapy and psychiatry, but took her here because we were not told on the phone that they had no beds open! The hospital near where we live also would have found her placement ELSEWHERE instead of simply discharging her! STOP LETTING PEOPLE DIE AND KILL THEMSELVES AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! PUT SOMETHING IN PLACE TO HELP THESE PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ADVERTISE THAT YOU SPECIALIZE IN THAT! I would personally like to thank the nurses that did speak to me, and told me how much of a great job I was doing dealing with all of this. I give the staff that I encountered a full 5 stars, but as for the doctor that wouldn't even speak to me, and spoke to my mom ONE time when they weren't even that busy, I give you 1 star. You chose to be a doctor, now do your job and SAVE LIVES... if that's not your goal here, then you shouldn't be a doctor. In my opinion, the nurses who work here should transfer somewhere else where their amazing intuition will be recognized and used! VERY DISAPPOINTED IN OUR VISIT AND WILL NOT BE BACK! UPDATE: 1 year later I am devastated because CMC Mercy didn't help my mom when we came in. In March 2018 my mother, only 47 years old, passed away due to her addiction. If CMC Mercy would have had a bed open or transferred her to the proper place, my mother would still be here. I'm 20 and my brother is 24 and now we have to continue our lives without our mother who once seeked help here.

Thomas Mease

Nothing. They couldn't work the iv pump, the phlebotomist yelled at wy wife after a heart catheterization because he wanted to share the gospel. Whatever you do dont come here.

Lance Read

My mother was admitted and needed to stay for a week. I was really impressed the compassion of the nursing staff, physical therapy, the doctors ... even all the support staff like nutrition. Like everything in life, there are probably other hospitals with staff who are a little more or less knowledgeable medically. But in my Mom's case, it was the encouragement, patience, support, and understanding that made the difference. And not just one or two people but a team of them.

This is the worst place ever the police took him there he called and ambulance because of his heart. He is taken his brothers death really hard what does these lousy jerks do they put him in a mental ward instead of helping him. Now they want let his family know where they are taken him too. what a government program . Makes me ashamed of the US and how doctors can get away with what ever they want . if I could give them less than a one I would.

my adult son was admitted into mercy hosp for severe stomach pain with nausea. my son does have a drinking problem. He knows that. But the nurse and doctors on the 5th floor treated him like he was some worthless piece of garbage. And just as a side note, my son owns his own business and has insurance. It was horrible. People are people and deserve to be treated with Respect. In spite of their personal opinion. It was the 5th floor, it was last may and the Dr/resident is Wilson. He should be ashamed.

Shannon Hossain

You very well might die waiting. Don’t risk it.

Great Customer care! Thank you! In and out in less than an hour, parking was a breeze.

Delano Heath

Please. DO NOT GO HERE. The very first time I went was in the middle of the night because of the pain. The wait was short and anything was fine. I was brought into a room and the nurse asked me all the normal information. Later, I could hear her talking badly about all the patients to the other nurses. In clear ear shot of the patients. I couldn't believe it and was so upset. She was even talking about a homeless man with no family next door like he was a dog. You could say it was just her, but what kind of nurses were the other if they allowed this? No one should have to play for treatment like that. I went back a year later (I know, but I was in pain again) And there was barely anyone in there. Maybe 3 people waiting. It was a ghost town. And after my last experience I know why. Seems everyone else got the same treatment. Novant is directly across the street. Go there. Go anywhere else but here. You shouldn't have to pay for this.

Went here because this is where my physician does his surgeries. Great doctor, terrible nurses. Do not go here.

It was my first time in one of Charlotte emergency rooms and to be honest; the RNs and the PA there was very nice and very very professional. I would go back there when myself if my child become ill. It wasn’t a very long wait time i was in and out in about a hour. Love the staff there!!! Thanks everyone!!!
