My grandmother was seen last week and was told there was no one available to read her radiological tests until three days later. Really? In this day and age of EHR?? I find that hard to believe and is absolutely ludicrous. All radiology images are electronic these days and can be read almost instantaneously by a radiologist ANYWHERE they log in from. As there should be an on-call radiologist available 24/7 at any Novànt hospital facility, it is obvious my family was not advised truthfully. The fact that Ashe accepts MCR/MCD payments should mean they hold themselves to a higher standard. Obviously not. After being in the ER ALL DAY all that resulted was a choice of keeping her comfortable (until she passes-really??!!) or transporting her elsewhere . A no-brainer for sure. After an ambulance ride down the mountain, my grandmother was treated promptly and efficiently. After a quick procedure, my grandmother was smiling, laughing and back to her beautiful self. In less than 24 hours she was discharged and able to return back to her home. Unfortunately this was NOT the first time my family has encountered this kind of shoddy, sub-standard care at this 'hospital'. My belief is going to see a Vet in the case of the family emergency would produce better results than going to this joke of a hospital.

Going on 4 hours....... my 10 year old has literally have been stuck in this small room without anyone seeing us for 4 HOURS ! Yea I understand that it is busy and there is people in front of me but 4 hours is a LONG TIME for a child not to be seen. Should make the extra 30 minute drive to Boone or Wilkes. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!!

Gave a 5 star when mom broke her hip but she hurt her back and had to be taken to the ER. She has been in severe pain. The Dr. on call didn't xray. Told her to go home and take a tylenol. She went to a caropractor and he done what he could. Took her to her Dr. and they sent her for xrays. They put her on meds. Her back is in bad shape. Thanks Dr. in ER for not caring about our beloved elderly. What's wrong with you people? You also need to do something about your CT scan worker. If she doesn't like people she should get another profession. She's not a people person.

I have never experienced such poor care mostly due to being understaffed. Took my daughter's friend who crashed a 4 wheeler and ran over her own ankle. Waited 5 hrs for them to give her something for pain even after they knew it was broken still took 3 more hours had to ask 4 times to finally get it as they are putting a boot on her foot and the nurse didn't give her one to take I had to say SHOULDN'T SHE TAKE THAT BEFORE YOU MOVE THAT BROKEN BONE IN A BOOT!! I mean I get it is a small hospital but I think it's a joke that they are not equipped to help more than 3 people at a time. Especially since there are no other hospitals close to the area.

I arrived at the ER at 4:30pm sunday the 4th. I waited to be seen for what it seems to be the flu. I was told the same as everyone else that it would be 2 to 3 hours before i would be seen. I watched the waiting room fill up twice and empty twice before i even made it back to be seen. Most everyone was there for the same thing. Masks on everyones face. After 4 and a half hours in the waiting room they finally call me back. I lay in that room for 5 more hours waiting to see the doctor. I was told there was only one doctor working and that i would just have to be patient. I was patient. 9 hours worth of patients while being very sick. I eventually asked my nurse if there was a chance that the doctor would say im sorry i cant help you because we have no flu swabs to test you with... i told her that if that happened after waiting to be seen that i would loose my mind! She said we dont want that. I said no. Being sick and in jail is not my idea of a good time. she said i cant answer that. I dont know. Just be patient. I waited more. I asked for my nurse again. I told her to go ahead and do what she needed to do so i could leave. I can be miserable and sick at home. She said i would need to fill out a form stating i was refusing care. I said what ever you need me to do. She came back and said you dont have to sign anything since you were not seen. You are free to go. And go i did. The administration at the hospital did a very poor job of scheduling enough doctors to help those in need during this flu outbreak. It is sad and it angers me to no end! Im sure everyone working were doing the best they could with the amount of people they had on staff. Its not their fault that not enough doctors were scheduled. Those that i spoke with were nice enough. They arent the problem. I can see that the hospital doesnt really care about its employees or the people in the community that depend on the hospital. Shameful....

I cant even put into words the lack of care at this hospital. I refuse to go unless its an emergency. 20 min doctor visits to tell you that they cannot do anything for you except prescribe medicine you cant take. The last 2 visits were awful and wait time was the longest I have ever seen. ER doctor was not friendly. Was using fowl language and being rude as can be. I will not go back to this hospital in the near future until patient care is taken seriously.

Slow, slow, slow service every time we go. Even after the remodel. Always seem understaffed and the ladies at the front desk are usually rude.

I’ve came here many times and it has took them hours just to tell me if I have strep, or if I just have a cold. They are not a good hospital at all. Would rather go an extra hour to Boone hospital and get seen immediately.

It was on a Sunday that my elderly mother broke her hip and was transported to the ER. The staff were friendly and the doctor was to. They got on her case and after quick xrays and diagnosis she was in an ambulance and on her way to Boone for surgery. The hospital and I've been there several times at Ashe was clean. There was only one nurse a little huffy but I let it slde. Its a good hospital. There is a waiting time if there are more serious cases. Thats what an ER's for.

Have been here since 3:30 this afternoon. It now 10:15. Still waiting

The nursing staff is great but very long wait. They are clearly under staffed. Probably more of a managerial/budget issue rather than ER staff "not caring" or being incompetent as other reviews would have you believe. Honestly, going to the ER anywhere sucks. But we as patients need to keep in mind we dont know what's going on behind the scenes with other patients. We just hurt, or are sick, so that's all we can think about...not the man or woman just involved in a terrible wreck, or the patients that are going into cardiac arrest. Yes, waiting sucks...but the care you do receive here is still good.

Went to the ER Friday night with excruciating pain in lower back from bulging disc (S1) after falling and transported by ambulance. While being questioned by nurses as to location of my pain, the assistant nurse was poking up an down my leg asking me if this and that hurt. Being in extreme pain I stated that in was in my lower back and pointed to the spot. Then the head nurse copped a very defensive attitude and accused me of yelling at the assistant nurse and denied any further treatment. I did raise my voice but I certainly did not yell at anyone. Miss boss nurse would not accept what I was saying and continued to inform me that they would not treat me any further. I thought that by law they could not refuse treatment to anyone. I'm in the process of retaining an attorney to pursue this matter further. And in January of 2018 I almost died in their ICU for five days with the H1N1 Swine flu virus that they had no idea of my infliction. After being sent to Charlotte I was on life support for five days and was told that I was as ill as I could have been and survived. They made the correct diagnosis and saved my life. I should have filed a lawsuit on that one. Needless to say!!!!! No more of that place for me.

First visit I filed a formal complaint which was addressed and handled to my satisfaction. Second visit a year later, won't ever be coming back to this place. It's ashame because the need for a local hospital is great, but I'll drive the hour to Boone. It's like the staff doesn't even speak to each other. And the Dr. Couldn't even bother to walk all the way into the room... As if popping his head in the door, leaving it wide open to explain test results is some how remotely professional or acceptable. Whose in the hallway hearing my personal medical issues? Never again.

Every visit to Ashe Memorial has been wonderful. The doctors have been friendly and they have the best nursing staff around.

Unfortunately my experience was very similar to the other reviews. Like many I debated going to Boone to be seen but was worried about driving that far in my condition. IF YOU ARE DEBATING THIS GO TO BOONE!!!! I came in pregnant thinking I might have the flu with a hard time taking a full breath. They called me back quickly but then the wait began. Although the nursing staff was very kind and quick once they could make a move I witnessed them taking samples without gloves, handling urine without gloves, and the hospital itself it just dirty. I saw what looked like blood stains on equipment, and surfaces that had obviously not been wiped in some time. I was there on a Sunday and completely expected a wait. 6 hours later with no food or water, feeling very weak from vomiting the night before, I had to fight with the doctor to be discharged. Of the entire 6 hours he barely spent 10 mins with me, would not listen to what I said, and tried to get me to take an x-ray while pregnant. He was so unprofessional that when he first walked in I wasn't sure he was actually the doctor. I felt sorry for the nursing staff as they seemed embarrassed by him. I did receive treatment that helped what turned out to be a cold and bronchitis but in no way shape or form should it have taken that long. The main reason it did was because of the doctors poor prioritization skills and complete disregard for true patient care. My time is just as valuable as his or anyone else there being seen and it actually worsened my condition to go that long without food. In order to finally be discharged I had to call administration and threaten to file a complaint against him. Previously he told me he didn't have time to discharge me but said if I left without his discharge insurance would not cover my visit. After talking to the supervisor on duty, within 10 mins he told me to not be mad at him and then after giving me an antibiotic that could have been administered hours before I was able to leave. Again drive to Boone!! UPDATE -Although I appreciate the hospital reaching out after this review, I feel it truly shows the breakdown in their staff that I actually talked to someone from Administration before this and no one ever followed up. Too little, too late...

Miserable experience. Waited with a 3 inch framing nail in my arm for 4 hours!! Only pain meds was a Tylenol the entire wait. Doctor took 5 minutes to pull the nail (which had 2 small wire barbs on it). Took a video of the removal because all he did was twist and pull aggressively with no worry of possible nerve damage
