I understand that the hospital is new and understaffed, but it's unacceptable that my son didn't feel safe. In the middle of the night a disturbed patient snuck into my son's private room and molested him. We have a shortage of mental health facilities in northern Nevada, so we need this hospital. I hope with time, the hospital becomes more organized. : (

This place is a ZERO rate/star. Staff members are rude and have no patience. They raise their voice for no reason. Never once spoke or met someone with a good attitude. This place is EXTREMELY unprofessional. Social worker named John, traumatizes the youth group more instead of “helping”. He tells the kids their parents won’t get them and that they will stay there for a long time. John also lies to parents telling parents and kids different stories. Also, very rude to the young group and is manipulative. PARENTS PLEASE let this be the LAST place you take anyone to get help. This place is absolutely NO help to achieve good outcomes after the program. Horrible staff members and service. These people don’t care about helping people feel better. If they did, they would treat people differently. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PLACE!

Went in unsure of what to expect. Got help and support. Would go again if I needed.

As a holistic treatment facility, RBHH tends to let the patients drive their plan. Nobody is forced meds or meals; the meals are served by trained chefs and rotate on about a 3 week basis--they are excellent. Many of the staff are great, some not so much. But that there is a gym, holiday activities, an arts room, porch... It's basically jail, but the nicest one you may ever find yourself in. I've been in four other facilities. This is fighting for the best. If you commit your loved ones, make sure to provide them with crayons/paper or books and a change of clothes.

Be careful they jump to conclusions and you could find yourself in a compromising situation don't trust them. I believe they must have their employees go on the site and give themselves five stars so they have a better rating puke what a horrible way to help people who are in need and weak disgraceful place. Yeah I'm pretty sure they'll put you on a hold that way they can collect the dough.

I am a daughter of the patient. My mother, 65 years old, was sent here with anxiety and depression and uncontrollable crying and confusion. She was there for about 3 weeks. They basically did whatever they wanted to her, including taking her off of her pain medication FAST, without letting any of her family members know what was going on. When she was first admitted, by ambulance, they said i would probably get a call from the intake nurse as well as the doctor so I could let them know more of what had been going on with her. I never got a call from anyone. I put in about 10 messages to doctors, on DIFFERENT days, and NEVER received a call back. Every time I visited my mom she looked worse and worse. I thought she was going to die. When I would talk to the nurses through her detox and withdrawal symptoms, i would ask, why is she like this? Why is she hallucinating? Why does she look 15 years older? Why is she now in a wheel chair? As well as, what is the plan with her? Why are they taking her completely off her pain medicine? They always said, "we dont know, we will put in a note for the doctor to call you." Finally I started researching her withdrawal symptoms then I TOLD THE NURSES that she was acting this way because of withdrawal! They treated her like she must always be like this! (Like, oh well, just another crazy old lady!) She signed papers saying they could discuss anything with me, but they didn't really know what to even tell me. Finally, my mom developed a UTI and they sent her to Renown where they admitted her and she stayed for another 6 weeks basically doing damage control for what they did to her at Reno Behavioral Health. I never did hear from a doctor the entire time she was there. Also, they didn't even call me to tell me that they transferred her to Renown. I came for a visit to find out that she was gone! (A day and a half later!!!!) For a brand new facility, I couldn't be more disappointed. Im just grateful that my mom is alive and is a fighter.

I am choosing to post this "anonymously" because I do not even want my name attached to this place, but after a lot of deliberation I have decided that it would be an injustice to future staff and patients if I did not at least attempt to share how terrible this facility is. I was an employee here and wish to share what I witnessed for the sake of future patients and staffs safety. The wrongdoing leaked into every single aspect of this hospital. The staff are promised many wonderful things upon hire- proper security, regular hours (they will always ask you to work overtime, often on top of a 12 hour shift), a positive work environment, etc... however, one can quickly pick up on the fact that these things are not true. I have worked in mental health in a hospital setting for many, many years, and have never been so dumbfounded by the conditions staff are expected to work in, and patients are expected to "get better" under. There is NO SECURITY, and the number of mental health technicians (who are intended to serve as the security) is always dangerously low, extremely disproportionate to the number of patients. This is not just an issue to the fellow staff being put in danger, but compromises the safety of the patients as well. Nurses were singlehandedly given caseloads of 19, 20, 21 patients at a time.... How can one ensure somebody going through detox receives proper CIWA's, does not have a seizure and die, etc...? It became so bad, I once witnessed a PATIENT protecting a NURSE from another patient, because there is no back up, guards, nothing. I had never seen a psychiatric hospital with no guards. And it goes without saying that another patient should never have to serve as security. The management does not take any ownership for the way the hospital operates, the blame is always being placed on the staff, despite the administrators being absent on the floor ALL of the time. They turn a blind eye to the extremely dangerous conditions that exist in their hospital, and make you feel stupid for voicing concerns. The way the superiors address their staff is condescending, and outright insulting- as if they know EVERYTHING. There is a reason that the "New Hire Orientation" sign never comes down off of the door...they absolutely can NOT retain staff. In my near two decades of experience I have never witnessed a turnover rate this extreme. It is highly alarming and results in very poor treatment for the patients, because everybody is overworked, mistreated, and belittled, thereby affecting the way patients are cared for, despite staff's best efforts and intentions. Furthermore, the way they market their hospital to the community is sickening. They completely fabricate the way things are done to others who come in for tours- I have overheard tours and have listened to staff tell bold faced lies about the treatment the patients receive. You can market your hospital with a shiny new building, "community outreach events" and the like, but word of mouth always supersedes any sort of falsified advertising. People are not stupid, and always catch on to what truly goes on eventually. Much like the great things promised to staff, the patients are also promised things they do not receive, and that was my biggest reason for choosing to leave this review. If you are going to volunteer yourself to provide care to patients in ANY setting, you do so because you have a loving heart and good intentions. I did not feel good about working for a place that jeopardized patient's safety, dignity and treatment to such an extent. Even if it is not you directly who mistreats the patients, you are contributing to it by working for an establishment like this, whose apathy is so extreme, I do not know how these people sleep at night. It is wrong for administrators to create and maintain these conditions and not be held accountable. A Google review is the least I can do. If you are considering employment or sending a loved one here.... please save yourself the trouble and the danger.

This is for all who think of doing business at this facility and any that may consider employment. Please do your homework and ask the level of experience in all departments. The Employees come and go, there's a reason why. I have found the staff to lie on situations and level of honesty has so much to be desired. They hire traveling nurses for they can't keep locals and the Dr are fed up with the inconsistant of keeping employees. The CEO is voiceless and others run the show. This and any statmstat made here is an opinion and the right as this employee has an area to which one can write a review. My opinion is based on experience but each individual should do there own search but always remember. If it's too good to be true ,it's probably is. Take the time and look elsewhere.

I was a patient here for 3 days and I did not have a very positive experience. I gave two stars instead of just one because a few of the techs and nurses here during my stay (Namely: Elena, Josh, Leigh, and Garry) are exceptional at their jobs and truly care about helping the patients. They made my stay bearable. I had a very bad experience with the psychiatrist that was assigned to me, and with a night nurse who outright refused me my cold medicine because she did not want to call the doctor to have it approved. I found the lack of therapeutic support appalling for a place that is meant to improve mental health. I went voluntarily in because I was at high risk for suicide after a messy year full of death, failure, heartbreak, etc. The environment at Reno Behavioral is better suited for those who are detoxing, need help with substance abuse, or suffering from severe mental illness/episodes- the tight restrictions on what patients can and can’t have, where we are allowed to go and when, and having to rely on undertrained and over worked staff for necessary items (such as medicine) actually increased my anxiety and made me feel worse than when I went in. Reno Behavioral might be a good option for others, but it was not anything like I hoped or expected. On a more superficial level, the food was very bland and made me sick to my stomach. I ate very little during my stay and lost 5 pounds. The beds are very uncomfortable too.

I absolutely love my position with Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital, it is very rewarding. The staff and leadership team are amazing. I would recommend employment with this hospital to anyone who is looking for an employer with high standards and treats their employees with respect.

Sandra Solimine

I thought the staff was great.

Our community is fortunate to have this place. The faculty is comfortable, and the staff really care.

This is an amazing place to get the best treatment. Our community really needed this. The facility is brand new and makes you feel comfortable. I encourage anyone to consider it for yourself or your family.

Brandon Hughes

I had a friend who stayed here, she told me the place is great but some of the staff is rude and doesn't care. She has been released and her opinion hasn't changed.

Posting anonymously. I stayed last year over fall break. I still have nightmares about this place, but nonetheless, it helped me improve because the only way out of there was to improve. I’m a better person now, but I chose to do that. RBHH did not help me improve, it forced me to. “Around the clock care” is just false. We left a few times during the day to go to the gym for a half hour, or the art room, or to eat. I only ever looked forwards to eating. It was the most eventful part of my day. They woke us up at around 6 AM, 2 and a half hours before we would be able to eat anything for breakfast. There were strict times for everything. Group therapy happened in brief intervals around 3 times a day, 20 minutes at most each session. I remember one of them being so short in the day room- simply “what is your favorite song?”. I can’t blame them for not knowing what to do or how to handle us anyways- they were severely understaffed, and I could tell they were unhappy. The sweetest people worked there under harsh and undertrained conditions. When we weren’t at the gym, in the art room, or eating, which was a very huge amount of our time, we sat in the day room and colored. It was very humiliating. We were all in our middle school or high school years. But even still, it was comforting to know that the staff was looking out for us whenever they brought around new coloring pages for us. I really appreciated every last thing they did for us. I wish so much negative emotion wasn’t tied to the experience. It shocks me how little comfort the staff was able to provide if we “acted up” in any way, shape, or form, I guess all they knew how to do was hold the threat of keeping us there for longer over our heads. And I’m not trying to insult them on doing this, but come on! It’s a psychiatric ward, don’t pretend like problems no longer exist anymore! Help us handle them and accept them better instead of shun the negative. When our parents called us, the workers behind the front desk across from the day room would often tell them that we were busy and never even notify us that they called or were worried. My parents told me they called many times while they were visiting, and I had absolutely no idea. Many other people that went through similar experiences in hospitals told me the same. I even spoke to one of my providers of this, and they told me it was a practice. We each had a roommate. No shutting the doors, heavy wooden planks on hinges with very strange “handles” that push down. The window had shut blinds behind glass, the chair to the desk in front of it taken about a day after my admission. The mattresses were horrendous, like boards stuffed with styrofoam. The pillows were tough and inflated. The bathroom in our rooms was a flimsy foam door with a magnet latch. Our toiletries were given to us in small jelly bean shaped trays, taken away after a set amount of time. Our parents could bring us toiletries of our own, but they still had to be stowed away nonetheless. They could also bring us any goods that followed the guidelines of what we could have (no strings, soft pillows, no too many books at a time, no electronics, etc etc). The laundry soap smell is burned into my senses. We cleaned ourselves with a strange 3-in-1 shampoo conditioner and body wash, neon orange, smelled of oranges, and had the consistency of jello. I can clearly see them jiggling a portion out for each of us into small Dixie cups. We walked around in whatever clothes were given to us by our parents or in hospital-issued scrubs and grippy socks. The food was decent sometimes. The chefs were very nice to us. It felt like we had some true freedom when we were eating because we had a choice. I hadn’t breathed fresh air or seen the mountains or the sky in all the time I stayed there. There is a patio, but it’s like a cage, and they never left it open long enough for us to get a breath of the distant outside world. I remember so much so clearly. It’s why I’m still here today, yet I’m still horrified of even driving past that prison.

Hahaha! "Great Counselor" you don't sound so great. I remember you. You were that weird creepy guy that harassed all the women. No wonder you got fired. Get a job brah! Stop harrassin the hard working people of Reno Rehavioral. It's unbecoming of a person who supposedly has a "PhD". Everyone knows who you are.

If I could leave no stars I would, but that's not an option. This place (intake evaluator) couldn't assess acute distress and growing suicidal ideation. Waste of time. Don't bother unless you have just garden variety depression. I mean, what do I have to do? Actually make the attempt? Their assessment process sucks.

If i could rate this a 0 star then i definitely would. The job its self was fine, but management is horrible. They do not care about their employees and their safety. We were always short handed and never got help from management. On top of that they treated us with no respect at all, I have never been treated as badly as i did working there. I would not recommend anyone to work there.

I am writing this review for all parents whose children are dealing with mental illness, substance abuse or simply poor life choices. Our daughter came home from San Diego State University last May after being gone for four years. Once she moved back into our home, we noticed drastic behavior changes. It was almost as if she was someone else and our loving, cheerful, and intelligent daughter was gone. All young adults change and mature during the college years, but the changes in our daughter were much more than maturational changes. Her moods and behavior changed daily. We never knew ‘who’ she would be when she woke up. My husband and I frequently wondered…where did our daughter go? After many arguments and therapist visits--she was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. While out-patient therapy helped, any positive effects and changes where short-term. We were also suspicious that there was drug usage. After many sleepless nights, on-going behavioral issues and simply being down right frightened for her, we chose to send her to the Reno Behavioral Hospital in Reno, Nevada. During her stay, she worked with Dr. Matusak. Since her stay, the positive changes we have seen in our daughter are dramatic, bordering on a miracle. We are not naïve enough to believe that the changes are magically permanent. Not at all. There is much work to be done by our daughter. But working with Dr. Matusak has given her the framework, the guidance and the confidence to battle her demons in a positive way. She continues to improve every single day. Dr. Matusak also taught my husband and I coping skills. Choosing Reno Behavioral Hospital and Dr. Matusak has been life-changing for our entire family, but particularly our daughter. I highly recommend RBH and Dr. Matusak to any parent which a child dealing with mental illness, and/or substance abuse. We are thankful everyday that we did.

I worked here for far too long. There are lots of staff who are really great people and care for the patients but there are also many who drove me to leave this place (management). Employees are not cared for the way they should be. It’s a difficult environment to work in already and to be treated like you don’t matter and to have no control and no voice really makes it miserable. I would not work here nor would I send my family members here unless it’s a last resort. You will have no say in what your schedule is and will have consequences for not working overtime (which is what they’ll ask you to do every week). They are always short staffed which is all around bad for the employees as well as the patients. They all deserve better.
